Best bakery we’ve found in the local area. Croissants, pastries, cake and bread are a cut above anything else nearby and on a similar level with some of the best london bakeries. It’s so popular things sell out quickly which is why I think people below are complaining. Sorry about the almond croissants being out of stock - they’re so good if I find them I usually buy most of them!

Visited on Saturday morning at 10:00 for bread and croissant to take away. No small sourdough loaves on shelf - disappointing. No almond croissants (30 minute wait for them to be baked!) - disappointing. Long queue as usual. 7 members of staff yet service so slow. Abysmal service, does not improve. Burnt sausage rolls at £3.20 for sale . Hardly any cakes/pastries available. Not what you expect from a visit - highly disappointing.

Literally waited 15 mins in a queue for 1 pastry (I changed my mind on the sandwich as it was all painfully slow when people are just popping in on their lunch break). The girl who took my order was soooo slow and literally asked every customer twice what they wanted. No please, no thank you and barley made eye contact with me - most rude. Defo wont be coming back here again!!

We have visited Crumbs on numerous occasions over the last year as we live local and really want to support local businesses. However, each time we have visited we have encountered the same problem with staff- they are unfriendly, disorganised and really, really slow at making orders. This applies to when we ordered milkshakes/smoothies in the summer, to today where we just ordered food from the counter which was ready and some hot drinks. They always appear to not really know what they’re doing and to be flustered. The food is okay. Some bits have been really yummy like the biscoff cookie. However a suggestion would be to perhaps try and keep warm food hot whilst it is on the counter. We ordered a quiche and sausage rolls and were surprised that they were cold and it made them not as good. Also, it would be good if they could find a way to speed up the service as it seems that whatever time of day we visit, it always takes such a long time. Even when there is no queue which is bizzare. It has the potential to do really well but unfortunately compared to other local cafes and bakeries it definitely isn’t as good!

Called in after a walk round the area for a bite to eat. The sandwich and roll we had were delicious - the bread was fresh and so much nicer than mass-produced bread, and the fillings were yummy. We also bought a loaf of Stilton & Raisin Sourdough Bread to take away, which was just as good. Glad we don't live closer or we'd be piling on the pounds on a daily basis!

Awful service. Waited in queue for 20 minutes simply to buy a loaf and cakes to take away. Lots of people behind counter but all only seemed interested in making coffees and rolls/sandwiches. Why is there not a separate queue for people just wishing to buy items to take away? We noticed two separate people open the entrance door, look at the queue and shut the door & go away. No one wants to waste their Saturday morning queuing.

Third time I’ve visited crumbs as it’s my local bakery. First time the iced coffee I had was lovely but the cinnamon bun was stale but I chalked that up to it being rather late in the day. Second time the cinnamon bun was again stale and the croissant was cold and sticky like it hadn’t cooked properly, but again it was late in the day so I thought maybe I just got a bad one. Third time I went first thing in the morning when they were bound to have fresh baked items. The pan aux raisin was like eating raw dough and the amount of oil/grease dripping from it was so off putting I ended up binning it. The paper bag literally went see through from the amount of oil. The cinnamon roll was also very oily/greasy and tasted just like the pan aux raisin except with a little cinnamon sprinkled on top. The location is amazing the staff are lovely but the products being sold are poor to say the least. I’ve not put a review before this but after 3 times visiting there has to be a problem with your bakers/recipes.

We’ve been waiting some while to make the time to come to Watton (all the way from Stevenage ha.!) to taste their wares and we’re glad we made the effort. The sausage roll was the best I’ve eaten other than my own home made and the French baguette reminded me of walking around the Loire Valley munching (once I’d inserted butter and ham of course). We had a Simmons sourdough at home so decided to leave their wonderful looking sourdough loaves until we return, which won’t be too long. The prices here might be considered steep but you get what you pay for and if you can afford it then it’s worth it. Only slight let down was the coffee and walnut cake, I’ve searched far and wide for one to suit my taste but this lacked serious coffee flavour and skimped on walnuts - sorry.. Oh and the (liquid) coffee is superb as well.

I'm really picky about cakes and pastries, they have to be fantastic quality to be worth the calories - well everything I have tried here has been totally been worth it! I started coming in for a cinnamon bun and a coffee (coffee made properly, to order, lovely rich flavour) and then moved onto the wonderful sandwiches (smoked chicken and advocado my current favourite). I recently discovered the range of cooked breakfasts they do, again great, lovely local produce. Everything is fantastic quality. The soughdough breads are so good, you won't want to use anything else. Highly recommended.

I popped in to Crumbs today for a takeaway latte and cheese and ham sandwich. I had quite a long wait after I had paid. I appreciate the quality of the bread, but the brown bag my order was in was absolutely saturated with grease by the time i got to eat it. I have never experienced this before and my sandwich was not enjoyable at all and I couldn’t eat it. I will try Crumbs again as my son lives in the village but will be careful what I order

This Crumbs Coffee Shop (and artisan bakery) opened a few months ago, replacing the old Crumbs. I mention this as many reviews pre-date the new Crumbs and it is a very different place. This is now a high end bakery and cafe with daily fresh bread, pastries and cakes of exceptional quality. As well as sandwiches, daily soup there is a modest hot range if food. Bread, cakes and pastries are baked on the premises and the emphasis is on fresh, artisan food. We had the smoked chicken and avocado sandwiches and a very fine Apple Charlotte cake-divine. The coffee was excellent too. It's a very friendly place with locals popping in for bread, cyclists, dog walkers, parents and children meeting up for snacks or meals. Handy things to know- like a bakery, if you want the full range get there earlier in the day. You can have almost everything as a take-away option and they also make cakes to order for special events. You order and pay at the counter, which makes perfect sense as a good proportion of their business is as a bakery. If you opt to eat in, after payment, service is to your table. In busy times expect a small wait as much is made fresh to order and this takes a bit of time. If I haven't been able to get there early, I have phoned and asked them to set a loaf aside- they were great about this- handy if you are running late. Parents with v.small children, I didn't spot a high chair but there is room for buggies. There is a nice customer toilet on site- handy as there aren't many in the area. We have managed a wheelchair in the main cafe just fine (but not the loo- it has a step). We visit regularly now and buy our bread there most weeks.

So far I have had their bacon on sourdough, cheese & ham toastie, coffee and carrot cake and today smashed avocado on sourdough & asked for bacon with it. It was amazing as not normally something I would order. I have heard their homemade sausage rolls are fab but are sold out each time I have visited so will be back for another visit soon to try them. Their food/ breads/soups/cakes are all made fresh on the premises. If you are just looking for breakfast/ lunch or just coffee & cake pop in to this very friendly cafe. You can also buy their breads/cakrs to take away. The manager and staff are so lovely and their customer service is 100%. Thank you for another lovely lunch today.

On arrival, the member of staff did not greet us or even look up to acknowledge customers had walked in. We had to clear our own table and ask for a cloth to wipe it down. It was a fairly long wait for the food to arrive. One meal arrived ten minutes before everyone else's and unfortunately went cold by the time the other food arrived. When the other food did arrive there were mistakes on two of the orders. When ordering the breakfast, if you choose fried eggs you were given two but if you chose poached you are given one very small over cooked egg similar to boiled egg texture. The toast and beans were cold. The plates that the breakfast were served on were too small. We advised the waitress that we were unhappy about the ten minute difference between the first meal and everyone else's. She said sorry and that they are short staffed. We didn't feel this was good enough and said so. She then got a manager to talk to us. She handled the situation much better and offered us free cakes to make up for it which we took away with us. Unfortunately these looked better than they tasted as we found these to taste unfresh. Overall we will not be returning and only gave three stars due to the resolution offered by the manager.

When my husband and I moved to the village a few years ago, one of the things it lacked was a coffee shop. After the PO owners bought the village shop and moved the PO into it, the old PO and adjourning bakery were turned into the delightful coffee shop - Crumbs. My husband and I regularly go in there and are always greeted with a cheery hello from all of the lovely ladies who work the counter/kitchen. We frequent the place so regularly they can pretty much predict our orders (occasionally we throw in the odd variation to keep them on their toes), Whatever we order is always freshly prepared - cold or hot. And as a fussy eater, they have always happily accommodated my funny eating habits. The too tempting cakes are made locally - we can definitely recommend the carrot cake, and our nephew the gingerbread man.

My 1st review!Crumbs....lovely little coffee shop with really friendly and helpful staff. A typical village feel of warmth and friendliness, I've rated them 3 stars as there are some small improvements that would enhance the overall customer experience .1st the Good.Staff there are always friendly, helpful and timely.Nice selection of food panini, sandwiches, waffles, pasites etc., They make an awesome coffee.Thoughtfully provided toddler, kids books and a kiddies table. One of the best coleslaws I've ever have!! Areas of improvementPotion size. Can be on the stingy side, I had beans on toast for £2.99, which was 1 slice of toast and a small portion of beans, left me feeling a little short changed, 2 slices of toast and double the beans a customer would generally expect to get. Fillings amount could be improved, much nicer to be know as generous with potion size, some places are popular because. (I sound greedy!)"Sugar Gate" - I've also wondered why there is no sugar on the tables, not a major deal, if you go more than once you know where everything is. Might help if staff make a habit of saying "Sugar etc. is over there" or the like when ordering, just a suggestion.Cooked breakfast. I've had a weird combination of fried egg, beans and waffle. Any scope for French fries? Think they would complement your menu very well.Overall this place has massive potential, I wanted to be open, honest and constructive as Crumbs is a excellent coffee shop which my family and I enjoy visiting. a few tweaks and it would get 4 or 5.

I will firstly say that I don't like giving bad reviews and won't unless I feel strongly about it.I visited this little coffee shop with my mother recently, ever time I drove past (just after school drop off in the morning) when in the area it is always busy and this is a good thing in my opinion so decided to see what they had to offer as it also looks like such a beautiful cafe. The decor is lovely and they have really made it into a bright and beautifully decorated place to visit with a variety of seating options which is useful as my mother cannot sit on low sofas so having the option was wonderful. We had 2 pots of tea which were lovely but was informed that the sugar was at the counter at the other side of the cafe, if this was take away I would have expected this but we then had to get up to get the sugar, we might as well have got the tea's ourselves. I don't see why there would be a problem with having sugar available at each table. The Scones we had were so stale and hard that we didn't eat them and decided to leave and buy some from the local corner shop. I would expect these to either be homemade or bought in fresh each day as you can tell when items like this have been left out too long, they really should have been discarded a few days ago. The crepe that we also shared was fine, however, from a little county cafe I would expect homemade crepe's as they are not very hard to make in a very short period of time and as they were not busy they would have had the time to do this, but they were just shop bought so nothing special. The staff were obviously locals and I really encourage people to eat at independent places as it's important we support our local community, however, next time I will just go to a chain coffee shop, at least you know what to expect there. It really is a shame as a few small changes and this could be a wonderful little cafe.

Picked Rosey Lea because it has kerb appeal and there was a pretty terrace to enjoy the last of the summer. Had a simple lunch of baked potato and a glass of wine which came to £17.45. The spud was OK and came with a decent amount of salad. However, for that money I want a big, fluffy and really hot potato where the cheese is happily melting in to the mix. The one I had was warmish and smallish. Service was friendly but on the slow side.
