Great as usual pizzas are delicious.

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying a pint at The Crown & Sceptre in South Croydon, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and friendly atmosphere. The pub has a charming, cozy vibe that makes you feel right at home. The selection of beers on tap is impressive, catering to all tastes. I opted for a classic ale, which was perfectly chilled and poured to perfection. The staff were incredibly attentive and knowledgeable, making great recommendations and ensuring my glass was never empty for long. What really stood out to me was the sense of community. The locals were welcoming, and it was easy to strike up a conversation. The pub also has a lovely outdoor seating area, perfect for enjoying a sunny afternoon. Overall, The Crown & Sceptre is a gem in South Croydon. Whether you’re looking for a quiet pint after work or a lively evening with friends, this pub has it all. Highly recommended!

As we are having our last pint in the nice outdoors area before moving away from Croydon, can't but feel sad. The crown & scepter has been our second home and both owners and staff have always made us feel like part of the family. And their pizzas are cracking! We will certainly miss this hidden gem in South Croydon! All our best from Jo & Os.

Nice old type pub, the menu is mainly pizza but are really nice, there is a small car park and a beer garden.

Really lovely pub. Didn't order food but it looked lovely. The decor inside and outside is lovely - the pub has a traditional but cosy feel. Great selection of beers, wines and spirits, as well as non-alchoholic drinks. Staff were really lovely.

First off, a declaration - I met the owners many years ago when they took over their first pub. 20 or so years later, I walked into this beautiful pub, and I was amazed to see them once again. Great bar with a really good selection and brilliant service. Was surprised at the garden also as it used to be a car park but has had a redesign. No Sky Sports, so a great place to come and chat rather than listen to commentary. I haven't tried the food yet, but I have seen and smelled it, so I will DEFINITELY be trying a pizza! It's a beautiful pub and really well run. We went back and ate here - the pizzas are really great!

The Crown and Sceptre is a lovely, cosy, welcoming pub that's accessible for people with reduced mobility. There are well maintained outside areas, some of which are under cover and it's a real neighbourhood gem in South Croydon. My only quibble is that the beer selection never changes and I like a bit of variety! Is there any chance of some rotating guest casks? A beer festival, maybe? Seems such a shame to have the whole Fuller's range available to order, but to stick to the same three things. Please vary it up and take a lot more of my money! 🙏

Lovely atmosphere in this quite hidden pub. Looks really lovely inside and out too. The team seem nice. We came for the quiz, which was busy and a good buzz in the pub. Pizzas are lovely and great that there are a couple of vegan options. Will be returning!

Not Just Great Drink Selection, I tried The Beef and Ale Stew what is. The Best stew I’ve Ever Ever eaten and Don’t just take My Word For it Go try it fir your self has I Guarantee you Will Most Def Not Be disappointed and The Staff are So down to earth and Nothing Seems to Much !!! Most Def a 10 Out of 10 all Round and Most Definitely for the Beef and Ale Stew 🤩

Really nice place, nice outside space with lots of greenery and similar theme in side past the proper old style bar area. We had pizza's which is the main choice on the menu, they were great! We had the veggie garden pizza and the mushroom and truffle pizza. Packed with veg and lots of cheese! I was there on a Tuesday quiz night, great fun and great atomsphere!!

Great local, family run pub. During the summer there is a lot of outside sitting in the quiet backyard.

Staff have no idea who needs serving when busy. They just serve what is in front of them.

Quite a clicky feel...pizzas very good but outrageously expensive ...need a bigger choice if menu...kitchen very clean and decor lovely and traditional...staff miserable and pedantic...one rule for their mates eg our 4 week old grandson in a car seat on a chair not allowed in pub but in the main bar regulars kids sprawled on floor coloring...owners need to be friendly and grateful to all customers especially for the prices you charge

Update May '23: everything as good as previously. Tuesday quiz seems madly popular but well run (even though we only managed to come 6th out of 17 - who am I kidding, well chuffed with that!). If you're there by 7-30 you'll have no trouble finding a table. Food/staff also still great - pizzas chuffing lovely 🍕

No interest in waiting customers. 2 people serving whether busy or not. At one point, a bar person who was actually taking a break and drinking went ro the bar to make it harder for others to be served. Meanwhile we had someone who spent the entire time collecting glasses, or filling a water dispenser...important stuff. When he could have been serving. I've been a customer for 40 years. Never has it been this bad.

Lots of memories here. I was on a pub crawl with some friends and we started at the Crown and Sceptre with a plan to head towards Croydon town centre. There were 4 of us and as luck would have it, in walked 4 lovely young ladies. We brought them a drink and got talking to them. One was a stunningly beautiful young woman called Maria and 36 years later she's still my beautiful wife. The pub? Well, it's not changed much, it's still a great pub. So have a visit, you never know how it might change your life

I visited during a Sunday lunchtime. I found it to be a pub with a homely atmosphere. I stayed for a Guinness and a pizza It is very homely and definitely worth a visit.

A lovely pub serving mainly good alcohol and pizza. We came here 2023-03-13 and each had a different pizza and all four of us enjoyed them very much. It was a relaxed atmosphere with polite staff, nice decor, a fire and a good selection of drinks. We had a very nice meal here. If you like pizza, come here! My only downside really was the lack of desserts. I can get on board with a place doing mostly pizzas for mains, but a brownie or cheesecake or something would have been very nice after that big pizza.

It's just alright to be honest, nothing special truth be told. An average pub, wouldn't have my than a couple of drinks before pressing on.

We recently moved to the area after a number of years of being away, we weren’t too familiar with the area and we’re scoping out the local bars and pubs as one of the reasons we moved was to have abit more of a local night/evening life outside of the house. We came across the crown and sceptre before we moved to the area but only drove past during the summer and it looked lovely, especially with the amount of outdoor seating and foliage adorning the front of the building. Since moving, it has become our favourite local and must show to friends and family who visit. It’s warm and friendly atmosphere makes it very welcoming. Brilliantly furnished and in keeping to the age and style of the building. Nice variety of drinks and the pizza menu is great value for money and fantastic quality. Perfect for when you don’t have time for cook or fancy a meal out. Dog friendly too! Can’t wait to experience it in the summertime, believe it would be an amazing atmosphere.

Lovely lunch on a freezing cold afternoon.

After taking a break from this pub due to the previous management, I visited last night after work and was very impressed with the ambiance, food and great Guiness. This really in pub terms the equivalence of an Oasis. It's like an English country pub, but in Croydon. The vibe is relaxed with enough people to create a good atmosphere, without the craziness of other Croydon pubs. To eat, the had the stew which at £8.50 was amazing value, the main menu is pizza. To drink we had Guiness which was excellent, the wine selection is very good as well. The service was excellent, both efficient and friendly. The other customers, who seemed to be locals, were friendly and welcoming, but not imposing so we could enjoy our drinks and food at our table, and when going to the bar talk and meet other locals. Highly recommended for those who like pubs as pubs, not flashy wine bars, or sports bars, great food and drink, served well by friendly people with a local vibe, but not cliquey. For sure, we will be visiting again,

Called in on a cold January lunchtime. Delighted with warm welcome to a freshly refurbished pub yet retaining that pub world charm. Ordered an excellent well cellared Dark Star Hophead and decided on the pub "Plat du Jour" a Homemade Mutton & Guinness Stew. Wow what came up was nothing short of fantastic fabulous dish just like Grandma used to make. A really lovely fresh warm pub with parking and outside hospitality in a quiet South Croydon road. Dear reader this pub is not to be missed. A return visit is a must!

Lovely friendly pub. Staff attentive, pleasant and helpful. Food limited to a pizza menu plus a non-pizza special but hey, what does it matter when the environment and atmosphere are pleasant. Wicked pint of London Pride. Felt comfortable just popping in for an early evening session solo. Toilets nice and clean. Like most other local pubs needs to be cherished and supported.

The pizzas here are so good, well worth a visit! The staff we encountered were also really friendly. One potential improvement would be to have a paper or electronic drinks menu available, but that won't stop us from coming back!

Really cute and cool little pub just off Selsdon Road - the beer garden is spacious and lovely!! Great beer/ale selection (they do Beavertown on tap!) Big car park out the back. Friendly and welcoming bartenders and a nice crowd. Such a nice place to come to for a nice drink in South Croydon, so happy we found it!
