Crown Jewel in North Lanarkshire

Wanted a hour for food didn't eat anything 😪

Should have gone with my gut feeling when myself and husband arrived. This place was a bit bare, with wooden tables and chairs, not inviting at all. Staff were pleasant enough, though they looked like they could all be doing with a good scrub and clothes not much better. Cutlery was old, cheap paper napkins and dishes not much better. My husband ordered chicken buriani, and I had chicken tikka south Indian garlic chilli chicken with rice and garlic nan. The chicken was like rubber, but the sauce was nice. The rice was really dry as if it had been lying for a time. The waiter asked what was wrong as we didn't eat much. I told him it wasn't very nice and asked for the bill. The manager came and I told him how I felt about the food. He became defensive but said he wouldn't charge us for the buriani, which I was happy with. I would avoid this place bit of a dump, to be honest. Standards terrible for a so-called restaurant.

I don’t very often write reviews but this restaurant with its excellent food and outstanding customer service is a rare thing. My wife, son and I will definitely be back soon.

Fantastic food and service tonight in the lovely surroundings of the Crown Jewel. It's a great local restaurant with high quality food cooked to your specification. Prices are very reasonable too. Staff can't do enough for you. Highly recommended.

Outstanding food & service at this gem of an Indian restaurant. Poori Starter is fantastic as is the Chilli Masala & Karahi Curries I tried. Nan & Rice were cooked to perfection as well. Great Value, a must visit if you like Indian Food.

A great restaurant with superb food. Best nan bread I've ever had. Food is always excellent, staff are attentive, friendly and welcoming. I'd highly recommend visiting this restaurant for some great food. You won't be disappointed

Outstanding quality, value & service. Went with a friend on Sunday with a Groupon deal. The welcome we recieved, food quality/portions & choice available was second to none. The Poori starter & Chilli Masala main where exceptional. A must visit for anyone who enjoys Indian food.

Really yummy pizza and excellent curry!

Food ok, poppadoms good. Biggest issue, they charge 20% VAT on the bill but say they cannot locate their VAT reg no for a business client to be able to recover the VAT. Something fishy going on there!

curry was leaking over bag and sauce was split due to taking so long to arrive but have to admit it tasted ok

Great restaurant. The cooks are magnificent and I would urge anyone who likes Indian food to go here. Simply devine. Staff are amazing and now fully licenced. My mum took a bad turn and the owner didn't hesitate to get help. My full gratitude and thanks for his swift actions and concern. Top marks on a most fantastic meal experience.

No apologies needed for early delivery as that was ideal for us. All items were hot and ready to eat. Starters were fresh and tasted great. The chicken and beef dishes were good.

First time trying as had good rating of stars. Do not fall for this. Cold on arrival pizza under cooked and I thought I ordered from an Indian? This looks like an Italian pizza to me. Big fat under cooked chunky chips. Horrendous

This is a great restaurant with a great range of delicious Indian food at reasonable prices. You will find all your favourites as well as some superb speciality dishes. There are plenty of vegetarian options as well. The set menus are generous and great value. The service is also attentive, quick and friendly. It's easy to park nearby and is accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs. Although it doesn't bother me personally, the restaurant doesn't have an alcohol licence and I think this keeps people away so it's usually quiet and lacks atmosphere.

we were looking forward to trying the crown jewel again after it being closed for a while. We were really disappointed as the quality has definitely dipped, rice chips and pakoras were very dry, vegetable bhuna was practically just mushrooms and the food wasn’t very hot.

Really disappointed with the food. The curry’s were both watery. The chicken in them was a bit chewy and noticeable reduction in amount of chicken.

Chilli Masala - more than fairly hot!! lol.

An unusually bad experience after ordering a takeaway. Ordered chicken Tikka masala but its certainly not what we got; the sauce was really watery and totally tastless. The chips were quite simply inedible and went straight in the bin. Also waited an hour and 45 mins only for the food to arrive stone cold. Can only imagine it wasnt the usual chef as we've eaten form here on a number of occassions and had no complaints.

Went on Christmas day with the family. Food was great. Service was excellent. Definitely going back for more.

This is the best Indian restaurant around. The food is delicious, always fresh and served hot. Dinner was fantastic. Staff are lovely, friendly and efficient. I would have no qualms about recommending this gem of an eatery.

Had a fabulous lunch with mu Mum today, food was so fresh and tasty. Best dopiaza ever, tasted immense. Great value for money, lovely service and we will definitely be back.

Boiled rice was hard at parts as if not cooked properly and chicken pakora was burnt to a crisp. Was solid and we couldn’t eat it

What a night! Order was delivered late and wrong. What a turnaround though head chef delivered the correct order himself. So impressed with customer service, I have no doubt this is the best restaurant in the area and have no hesitation in recommending

It was very bland and too oily but it was still edible but would like more flavour next time - everything was fresh and the bread was lovely

Third time to this establishment. Used a groupon this time. Located near the Time Capsule in Coatbridge across the road from petrol station. Super friendly staff, so accommodating and kind. Mentioned phone was running low on battery, guy offered to charge phone for me which I felt was decent. Both vegetable and chicken pakora were excellent lots of sauce for dipping. Dansac was tasty, good portion. Nan was massive, fresh and tasted amazing. Unfortunately place no longer has an alcohol licence and could be the reason why the place was very quiet for a bank holiday Friday. Lots of offers available and is definitely worth a visit. Soundtrack was smooth radio, might have been better with authentic Indian music and spiced onions weren't spicy and a bit too minty other than these small points no issues. Reasonable sized dining area, spotlessly clean and good value for money.

Take away order. Decided to try Crown Jewel as it was rated highly on Trip Advisor. Ordered 2 tender lamb Bhunas with rice, chips and 2 parathas. I can't begin to understand the high ratings. Small cubes of tough chewy lamb in a brown textureless gravy. Nothing even close to a bhuna. School dinnes of the 80s standard. Got charged £40 for this. Its not even the cost which was of todays prices which I dont mind but the quality was, and I hesitate to use the word but I can think of no better at the minute, HONKIN. Do yourself a favour and go to the Indian Villa in Motherwell. Sorry Crown Jewel, I dont normally take the time to leave bad reviews but that food was shockingly bad. It just go binned.

I have tried this restaurant on several occasions based on its reviews I honestly can't see were they get that level of ratings as on all of the visits and takeaways I have found the quality and standard of the food extremely poor I don't like to give such poor ratings, but the reviews are very misleading
