Crown Inn Sedgley Pub & Carvery in Dudley

Irish Tuesday club we called at the Crown Hotel. Yesterday there was 66 of us for carvery meal I have to say it was absolutely beautiful and they coped with us very well. A big thank you to you all from Saint Patrick’s Tuesday Club Leamington spa. Thank youXx

Having moved to Sedgley just before Christmas we decided to try the Crown for Sunday lunch, wow it was delicious, a very generous portion of perfectly cooked meats and everything else as good as I can cook at home. I have eaten there mid week too and the food is just as good. The people are really nice and friendly. I would recommend to anyone.

After booking a table at short notice , the management went above and beyond to accommodate 6 adults and 2 young children on the busiest day of the week a Sunday! After paying for our drinks and carvery, we collected our tickets and headed to the serve, 4 different meats on offer, I chose Turkey and beef, and both meat I chose were cooked to perfection infact, the beef didn't even need to be cut with a knife, it just fell apart!,there were that many seasonal veggies to choose from, we were actually spoilt for choice. I like to praise where praise is due, and I feel it is definitely due here, from the warm welcome we recieved from entering the door, to the goodbye when we left, we felt at home.the 2 young waitresses(not sure of the names, but they look like sisters)I would like to give a special mention to them, because nothing was to much trouble., well done girls your a credit to the crown . Keep up the good work

Best roast I've had for ages. 1000 times better than any other pub carvery..hands down...!!

Me my mom and my 2 boys came here for lunch during the week we really fancied a carvery so we chose to go here… although it wasn’t a carvery during the week only .. the lovely lady made us one of their roasts of the menu and oh wow! It was amazing! Hot fresh and the meat was melt in your mouth! Thank you very much and we will be back soon 😊

We had a lovely beef dinner, everything was cooked fresh and to perfection, been for the 3rd time, beautiful food.

Visited the crown today for thier Sunday carvery, we hadn't booked and the new owners Sam, Glenn and Deb were very accommodating even though they were extremely busy they still found us a table and found the time to engage with us. The food was fantastic couldn't fault it, proper homemade carvery. Props to the chef Deb, felt like I was eating food like my mom makes its was beautiful. Decided we would book in for next week aswell while we are here. Sam gave us a copy of there weekday menu to take with us. So will definitely be returning to try what else they have on offer. It's fantastic to see the place doing so well again under the new owners.

Visited the Crown again today. Food was bang on! Service bang on! Since Sam,Deb and Glen have taken over it has gotten increasingly better. Very happy! Thank you as always! See you again soon.

What a disappointment from start to finish!! We have been visiting this pub for a carvery for 2-3 years, we had never had a bad meal or service. But today was a completely different experience!! We called to book a table around 4pm. On arrival we asked if we could order sausage for our 10 year old son as he doesn't like meat. ( yes I know sausage is meat but he doesn't think of it that way) on all our visits we have always ordered sausages to replace the meat on the carvery on arrival and it's always been accommodated, but today we were told they couldn't do it as it was to busy to cook two sausages ?? The restaurant area was half full and they had a function in the back??. I explained that he won't eat the carvery meat and would be grateful if they could do it and we didn't mind waiting? Again we was told no? ( even though the menu stated "kids menu" sausage and chips , nuggets and chips etc. this was 4:15 and still serving food until 5;45 ?. My son began to cry as he wouldn't be able to have his sausges he always has. We should have probably left at this point !! We then ordered the food which for two carvery's and 2 kids carvery's and 4 squashes cost over 50 pound! Kids small side plates we're 9.95 each!! Which is a ridiculous price for a tiny side plate and a child's portion! The prices have gone up so much since our last visit. Now I wouldn't mind paying 50 pound for a really good meal... but it was no where near good enough! The meat was ok, the vegatables were dry hard and tasteless, the "roast" potato's were awful!!! Terrible oily taste and straight from a freezer !! Not home made at all. The gravy used to be the best part about the dinners home made and tasty!! Now it's completely tasteless and watery!!! After all this disappointment and a terrible meal... we asked for a box .. as my husband barley touched is and wanted to take it home , to give to our dog! We were then told it was 50 p for a tub!!!! 50p to take home food we had already paid too much for, which tasted like reheated frozen rubbish we couldn't even take it away! So so disappointing for so long we have enjoyed carvery's here with all our families and todays experience has literally ruined our day! We have recommended so many people to this place is the past and spent a lot of money and time here, but after today we will not return. Not sure what has changed but obviously higher prices have not reflected higher quality food.. in fact higher prices have resulted in poor quality food and service !! Well done the crown you have gone from a good value, great food family pub to an overpriced and tasteless establishment!

Went during the week in the afternoon and had the plated dinner. Excellent food, (esp the melt in the mouth beef) with plenty to eat on a big plate and tremendous value for the price. Had gone originally for the carvery but for me this was just as filling and satisfying. Great job.

New management just taken over limited menu, but food cooked well and nicely presented, carvery only Sunday but will do a cooked dinner if requested, sympathy refurbished, large free car park

Had our late Father's wake here. It was perfect nothing was too much trouble and the buffet was amazing so much food, tasty and well presented. The cook and the bar staff worked so hard on the hottest day of the year. Thank you all so much for providing the best place for us all to share our memories of him.

I was a bit disappointed when I realised the week day carvery was plated for you, but I am so glad I still went ahead with the meal because it was amazing veg so fresh staff friendly would highly recommended

I had carvery at the Crown in Sedgley. It was absolutely disgusting, poor service, food was very dry, overcooked and not fresh! Mash was frozen! I do not recommend this place!

No longer a Carvery, meal plated up for you and it was cheaper it was lovely actually better than the carvery will visit again

Had a 'take away' Sunday lunch from here - absolutely amazing. Quality food, brilliant service, worth every penny. Thank you to Sam, Glenn and Deb, will be back - very soon.

Went for Father’s Day, very busy and great atmosphere. Food was so good and as if it was home mom made comforts. Great price for value, definitely going back and making memories. Have recommended so much already and now going to visit as the new refurbishment has been done. Exciting!

Went in the other day other room was shut for refurb but was still sat and they plated me a carvery it was delicious all food tasted so fresh and beef was soft. Staff were very pleasant and attentive

So disappointing. Have been here regularly over the last few years but this is the worst experience we have had and I don't think we will be returning. Price has increased but the meal and service has deteriated badly. Arrived at 12:45 only 2 tables occupied but bar service was so painfully slow. We ordered 3 carveries but we're not informed there was limited meats. All 3 of us wanted beef, there was none on the counter but was told that a fresh piece was coming out of the oven, vegetables were limited as turines we're almost empty. Another customer complained that there was no gravy, when we eventually got the beef we had to take it back as it was inedible, the knife would not cut through it. We had it replaced with turkey which meant their was no meat at all left for other customers, there was further complaints from others who left without eating. Have had a carvery at The Dudley Arms for £6:99 a far more enjoyable experience.

So disappointing, usually an excellent carvery but today was so poor. Slow service at the bar, hardly any meat, had to wait for beef as it was still being cooked, vegetables needed topping up but we're still being cooked, no gravy in the turine. Had to take my meal back as the beef was inedible. The server said they were sorry but they were busier than usual. On looking round there was only two tables taken, this was at 12:45pm. Meals have increased by £2 yet quality has dropped by 80%. Other people walking out or being turned away as there was no meat. Not good enough I'm afraid, needs a rethink, plenty of competition better value than this was today.

Quality food but gravy only just warm spoilt it previous 4 times were good but this time spoilt it and meal has gone up £2 so please dont rest on your laurels as 2 people said they wouldnt come again

Food was disappointing. Yorkies were so hard couldn't even bite them and the gravy was like water. Since taken over food gone downhill.

Food was OK. No carrots and meat was a bit dry but it was late on a Sunday afternoon. £33 just seems way too heavy for 2 carveries a pint of bitter and a J20 though.

One of the nicest Sunday dinners I have EVER had. No exaggeration. Lovely food! The gravy was divine. If I lived in the area I would defo go back all all time. The people who work there are really nice and friendly and make you feel really welcome. They were lovely to my daughter. Had a great time and look forward to the day we go back. Really family oriented 10/10 - thank you for the food 🙂

First time here yesterday for a Sunday lunch. 4 meat-eaters, 1 vegetarian. Everything was great. Space in the dining area, nice decor, lovely welcome at the bar, friendly service at the carvery, a billing error quickly rectified, and really friendly lady clearing the tables. Great choice of mest and veg and veggie gravy provided without me even asking. Really nice lunch experience all round and we'll definitely be back. Big 👍

Lovely meal. Roast potatoes were delicious as was the gravy. Good selection of vegetables. They also have Mr whippy ice cream machine with jars full of toppings.

Booked via Facebook which was very easy. Met by Manager Jason on arrival. Xmas decs were lovely and pub nice and warm. He was very attentive and everyone in group of 10 were impressed with the carvery and proper Black Country value for money. Meats were miles better than Tony and Weatherspoons and veggie options really nice too. Will return.

Large family gathering What great value for money. Proper tasty Butcher’s meat. Not the usual tasteless frozen cuts you would get at a Toby. The service was great and staff brilliant , especially with the little ones in our party said we would come back

Made my first visit here this week, since it has changed hands, and l was so impressed with the changes the new owner has made, it was warm and cosy, lovely xmas lighting, a smiley friendly greeting, and, most importantly a gorgeous roast lunch! To be fair, the carvery there has always been nice, but the changes to the place itself made it feel even better. We will be going most weeks now, and l would recommend it to anyone, a tiny rise in the cost is nothing, when you consider the quality of the food, give it a try if you haven't already!

The condition of the car park was dangerous I slipped getting back in my car because the car park had not been gritted I injured my hip etc we always visit the carvery regularly but disgusted at the state of the car park as I am disabled name and address supplied on request

Lovely carvery with perfectly cooked beef. For less than £8 definitely worth eating in if your near by and want good quality food on a tight budget

What a great carvery, there were 22 of us good size portions of all meats, lovely Yorkshire puds all veg were good, and all this for £7.95 WOW, We will be going back soon, thanks to the staff who looked after us👍

Held my husband's 'wake' at The Crown today. Was amazed at buffet provided. BRILLIANT food ,,exceeded my expectations. Room was warm and clean. Staff were attentive and courteous at all times. Plenty of parking. Would recommend to anyone for these sad occasions.

The Crown is under new management but we were very impressed by their carvery. It's more expensive and no soup but for ,£7.95 lots of meat, plentiful vegetables and excellent gravy. Good luck to them for the future.

It is a decent carvery. Not the best in the world but if you are hungry and in the area then I would pop in.

Popped in here with my disabled son, friend and her special needs daughter. Food was lovely, staff and customers made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Jason and Connor were absolutely lovely. Thank you for a lovely time. Xx

The pub is under new management and we visited last weekend. Carvery was good, tender meat and homemade yorkies. Will visit again soon.

Great staff good service, the beef was so tender and succulent it all most melted in the mouth. A lot of the clutter has been removed making it a plesent friendly place.

We visited today and were most disappointed with both the customer service and the cost of our carvery. We were left standing at the bar not knowing which table we had been allocated. We had two carveries and a pint and a glass of wine...

Welcoming pub that is well worn and in need of a little TLC. However, food is well worth the price, well cooked, generous portions and well presented on carvery hot plate. Worth going to more than once just for the food. 4 stars from me.

Ordered here first time for delivery, Not very impressed with the food, carrots were tinned, sprouts were very sour, veg in general was poor, pigs in blankets were totally cremated, gravy didn’t have a nice taste & had big lumps.. so made my own. The only things I enjoyed was roasties & the meat was lovely, stuffing not too bad. I’m not a fussy person but , 1st time ordering a dinner out, think I will stick to my own in future 👍

It was an OK carvery... meat was rather dry.. but hey what is gravy for... the gammon was the only meat that had a little moisture... everything else was your standard carvery grub. The staff are friendly. The carvery area itself is just a little outdated, appears to be separate to the main bar area which appears to have been updated. Pic - had already started to eat sorry

I had a carvery take away from here. The staff were really friendly and the food was fantastic. The roasties were nice and crisp, the meat was tender. The gravy was a food group of its own. Really enjoyed it.

Really disappointed with the welcome from the staff, we had booked a table however no-one showed us to one, a lady behind the bar said sit over there and the table hadn't been laid, I had to find someone to ask whether we had to order at the bar or whether it was waitress service. The carvery area is really crammed however the one big plus is the food is gorgeous so hats off to the chef. Its not the most cleanliness of places and tables are far too close to each other I had to sit to the side very uncomfortably as the table behind was so close myself and the gentleman behind could not sit properly at the tables. Really disappointed as we had read some really good reviews however looking at the dates of those reviews its obviously gone down hill in the last 12 months. I doubt we will go again the service and experience was really not good enough.

Ok, so to start on a weekend you would think there would be some beer or larger available, but unfortunately not. Extremely poor management. Decided to have a meal, really wish I hadn’t. Meat was dry and obviously warmed up from another day. Stuffing rock hard, and to oppose this soggy Yorkshire puddings. The decor is horrendous and dirty. I find it quite shocking when there are still tar stains on the wall from 2007, give the place a lick of paint! Plus side to the experience the staff were really nice. Not sure who the bloke serving with the dirty T shirt on was but for goodness sake, put some clean clothes on!

A fantastic carvery always great food and a friendly service

This is an edit of a previous reveiw......theres no way im leaving my existing reveiw in place after a recent visit. Shocked at how this place has gone downhill, the food and the service was awful, Christmas decorations still up and you will be happily be kept waiting while the sort out thier uber/just eat orders. Tried to complain at the time but was fobbed of by the staff and asked to see who was in charge, which never happened due to the gaffer being a coward...Needless to say will never visit again and advise you to spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

Another fab meal had tonight. Greeted by Jodie front of house on our arrival. Very pleasant and friendly greeting, made to feel most welcome. The Beef and Turkey was cooked to perfection and served by a lovely lady that chatted to us whilst we drooled at the vast amount of veg choice. We were offered a voucher too for 30% off our next visit that we were very surprised to receive as the total cost of the two meals was only a mere £15 odd!!! There is a great atmosphere within the walls of the Crown with lots of pictures to take you back to days of old. Give it a try folks fab value for money. You just cant move when you get home and feel like you have eaten for England..Well done The Crown

Soup and carvery should be advertised as cement and wood shavings. The soup was so thick spoon stood up. Meat was dry she claimed it was falling apart it was shredding as it was so dry. The best thing was the bread rol

We usually go here for Christmas dinner i mean the food was ok three weeks ago but they seem to have lost there way a bit on customer care its only constructive criticism guys and dont want you to take it the wrong way but the atmosphere has dropped and youve clearly got enough staff to get things right but unfortunately you all ran around making sure that a lot of people got there starters except me and also i bet everyone got there correct pudding except me so thats why we walked out without saying goodbye three weeks ago so hey pay more attention to detail and sort that atmosphere out rant over .............

Don't recommend working here. Underpays staff on a weekly basis and then you have to ask over and over again to be paid correctly. Never paid my last wage. I wouldn't eat there again either.
