Crown Caversham in Reading

Affordable with a decent atmosphere which is hard to find in chain pubs these days. Great selection and choice of drinks and food plus live sport. Works! Works well!

Great little pub with the rugby on and some awesome beers on tap too including one of my faves by tiny rebel !!

Nice environment. Music not too a loud and can have a conversation inside. Outside is decent enough, but by a very busy road. Would be nicer if extended into the unused area. Staff are generally pleasant, although some not very smiley sometimes 😉. If it fits in your schedule, the big bonus is cheaper ale on Thursdays. Having a drink is now rediculously expensive, resulting in few trips to the pub, so it is much appreciated having a constant promotion. Would be nice for others if there was a lager or two added.

Didn't eat here but came to watch the Joshua Vs DDD fight. Atmosphere was really good but also felt very safe. Had a really enjoyable evening

We wondered in here spontaneously quite a while ago. This place seems to often be busy when sport is on, so it's probably a good place to watch the football. Our experience was mixed. The young staff behind the bar were nice, but a little inexperienced - probably a bit too focussed on their phones. The food was just okay and arguably a bit overpriced for what it was. We were confused because the food menu outside didn't match the food menu inside at all. Apparently the menu outside was from years ago (which goes some way to explaining the lower prices on it). The staff said people were often confused by this, but it's apparently very difficult to remove this for reasons that didn't really sound plausible. At the very least the pub should cover up the old menu to avoid misleading customers. This is probably a reasonable place to go if you want to watch a football game and have a drink, but I wouldn't recommend this pub for anything beyond that.

Top place in caversham, they have offers on Thursday for 241 cocktails and cheap pints ! Good food and good atmosphere

The young dark haired girl that works behind the bar is so helpful and has a smile on her face. She is a vape girl. The pub is lucky to have her.

Bar staff are moody teenagers. In-between being glued to their phones, you might bother them for a pint, if your lucky you'll get a positive grunt, if not your just told the price. If they spent less time on their phones or beautifying themselves in the mirror, they might actually see who's sniffing in the toilets, and perhaps stop the vaping that is openly practiced in the bar area. Dirty glasses guaranteed also. Eat here never.

Food looked better on the menu than the plate and not great value but since you are in town that might be expected. Still busy though so presumably better than some other options? Triple burger, at £17, was about the same as a decent quarter pounder but with three deep fried onion rings on top to make it look bigger.

Came in for a meal, with my mate after working on my old Escort. The food waa good and we where well received. It wasn't very busy, but it was a Tuesday evening. I do like this place.

Great afternoon staff looked after us really well will be going back next time we are in Reading and a thank you to the manager yesterday afternoon as he helped my parents really well as they do not speak English

Went in for a sporty Saturday ( football and Rugby) and some food and drinks. Great burgers and pizzas, and really good vegetarian options! Good atmosphere and helpful staff. Definitely worth a visit if you want a good atmosphere for sport!

Wonderful experience. We aren't local, but were visiting family in the area who suggested coming to the Crown for some food. The pizzas were great, as were the bar staff. Lovely, cozy pub. Next time we're in the area we shall be coming back.

Fun venue, nice cosy atmosphere. Shows all the sports. Been in for the past few weeks to watch the rugby and the place is packed. Also got a great outdoor area for when the sun is out. If anyone is in Caversham this is the place to go to!

Came for the rugby and there were plenty of TV's to watch from. All the staff were great and got served fast for how busy the place was.

Average at best, alright for a pint and to watch sports However the food is terrible, firstly the menu says one thing and the dish comes out missing items, chips undercooked. They definitely have a big freezer, frozen food all the way. No cutlery brought over, no napkins, no check back from the staff utterly useless

Love this pub. Came in for a weekday lunch and pint. Wasn’t disappointed. A decent pint for just over £3 and pizza and bites for lunch. Ordered way too much food so the staff provided a Tupperware container for us to take it home. How nice is that? This is a good old fashioned British pub at its best. No frills - just cheap beer, good food and great service. What else do you need?

We stumbled upon the Crown after booking a couple of nights away in a nearby hotel and what can I say a lovely friendly pub and very welcoming. The staff were all amazing and could not be more helpful giving us a route for a river walk and even restaurant recomendations for a meal one evening. we popped back for more drinks after!! great range of drinks and a good venue for watching football even though we lost!! we shall return in the summer so we can enjoy the beer garden more and look forward to seeing the renovations. Great work Ethan and the whole team.

I have had a few lovely evenings here! The atmosphere is always great, the drinks are a good price with an amazing selection, and the staff are lovely! Hannah, the deputy manager, always has a smile ready for us and makes sure we are well looked after.

Was promised that Sunderland v Norwich would be available on Sky Sport. On the day the Crown changed their mind. Too many Man U supporters in pub. The pub has about 5 screens. Ridiculously poor service going back on promises made. Choice of beer is poor and food is expensive. Use the Cliden Arms instead

Well this pub is great - bar staff lovely , several TVs for sport, pool table, outside area when it’s too hot, inexpensive pub food - not gastro ! - just what you need pizza burger calamari… a pub that knows it is a pub :) great to have in Caversham.

Stopped in here after a drinks debacle in the hotel across the bridge and was served a fantastic Peroni and wine in quick time and sat in the garden in the sun - What a decent place its clearly been looked after staff are on point, food looks well priced, Pool table and I will pop in when in area again. charming place got character... So close to river and other places in Caversham centre also.. little gem IMO

Visited a couple weeks ago with some mates. Had a great time. Lots of good beers and friendly staff. One that stands out was Josh who was always polite and smiling even when things got busy.

Very fast service and a really nice bar staff happy to serve and they do a really good shandy too. The tables in the back are always a good place to enjoy a cold one and they are clean even with high attendance. I like this place.

Limited dishes available due to supply issues, were told on arrival. Great food, cooked quickly.

Decent drinks but the food is unbelievably overpriced. My friend asked for a garlic bread and they delivered two tiny slices of baguette for £3.85. Not good enough.

My beer was nice, but the young guy with the coloured hair behind the bar was totally unwelcoming and simply did not want to be there.....go home mate and look for another job, preferably a non customer facing job.

Used the crown last night with a group of friends late drinks for a friends 50th birthday was at the bar and was really surprised to hear the young barmaid was telling some guys about her onlyfans website for £50 they could see pictures of her naked my friends thought this was out of order and explains why it took us ages to get served
