Crown at Woodbridge in Suffolk Coastal

Enjoyed excellent menu choices with a difference and quality food. Also friendly welcome and service.

An interesting menu with a range of starters, they describe as niblets that can collectively act as a meal. We had 5 of these niblets and enjoyed the Pork Belly in particular. For the main I went for the Wellington which again was excellent. The service was attentive but not overwhelming, all in all a very positive experience

Fish was overcooked and dry and some of the Chips were hard starters were lovely though and service was excellent nowine list offered

Had a dreadful experience at the crown which was disappointing given previous experiences had been good. The starters arrived and we weren’t told that what we actually ordered had been changed and so had to send it back. It took an hour for our food to arrive and then I had to send mine back as it was inedible so left the restaurant starving. It was cold, here was no atmosphere, the staff disappeared for ages and we had to ask them to clear he debris that they left at every empty table around us. Of course we complained and they fiddled around taking 20% off until I told them what we were prepared to pay for which was basically drinks and a couple of starters. Appalling experience and one that I will not be repeating until they sort themselves out.

Fist time visit, food was very good and felt like a homemade roast beef dinner. Desserts delicious too as. Very well presented. Would recommend.

My husband and I went to eat on a Saturday evening, even though we didn’t book we managed to get a table ok The pub/restaurant area were very nice but the food was not. The waitress took our drinks and food order. We had to wait nearly 30 minutes and had to remind the waitress we had ordered drinks and where our drinks were as at that time the bar wasnt even busy. When they eventually arrived we waited another 30 minutes for our food to arrive. We ordered the chicken burger and the specialty pie. Both were very disappointing. The chicken was overcooked and burnt and the chips weren’t cooked in the middle and the pie was mainly pastry. The waitress asked if everything is ok and when we said no, she just said “oh ok” and walked away We called the head waitreaw over and were offered another chicken burger meal but by then we didn’t want to wait any longer as pub/restaurant was getting busier At first we were offered 20% off of one of the meals but we said no and ended up not being charged for the burnt overcooked meal which hadn’t been eaten. We wont be rushing back

We booked a table for 8:30, arrived to be told that the kitchen had taken last orders already and we could not eat here. After travelling some way to get to the location we struggled to find somewhere else for food. Very disappointing

We went to celebrate my husbands birthday with friends - bar has no atmosphere - the lunch we had was a starter and a dessert but they tried to still charge us £26 for 2 courses! Euan was great and sorted it out eventually! Waiting time for food was ridiculous! Breakfast this morning was tasteless!

Afternoon tea on my birthday was a great experience, so much care and attention given to every item on the menu. Being super critical I would have preferred just a few more savoury items and less sweet dishes. Otherwise a perfect experience.

We visited the Crown for afternoon tea. The menu was very different to the usual traditional afternoon tea, but was delicious and very efficiently served. The staff are all very friendly and can’t do enough to make your visit pleasurable. Would have no hesitation to return again.

Chicken Terrine was watery and not seasoned, it came with a mini loaf which wasn’t easy to cut, butter was ice cold. Initially I asked for the kidney starter, however not available. For main I asked for paella with additional octopus, again octopus not available. Paella was shockingly poor, pale yellow in colour and no flavour, again very watery. I asked for a lemon wedge to try and bring it to life, and was given three slices of lemon from behind the bar (for use on drinks) to try and squeeze over the dish. I informed the manager on shift about the paella, who walking up to the table seemed to know the food wasn’t going to be up to standard. Either an off day for the chef or they are out of depth in a restaurant like this.

Pig-hivier The ‘Pie of Pies’ in Sci’s eyes! A classy French pithivier pie filled with pork shoulder, picnic ham, our back & belly bacon, homemade black pudding & apricot, in a light apple velouté. Now served with sweet potato & chervil mash, freshly picked garden beans, black garlic butter. What an amazing pie this is …. definitely worth a visit to try the new menu And also the new curry with squid Malay Korma Curry (Plant Based) (GF) Light & fragrant spiced curry, potatoes, mixture of summer-harvested beans, bok choy, spinach, mustard greens, chard, carrot, basmati rice We were really impressed with the service in the restaurant from Amy who guided us with the choices of dishes we wouldn’t normally have chosen And also Josh for his friendly welcome Thanks guys for a lovely meal and we will definitely visit again

Friendly staff and the new General Manager is doing an excellent job. It was good that locals also came into The Crown at lunchtime and in the evenings. The bedrooms and ensuites in the hotel are a good size, clean and well-serviced. Good choices of cereal, yoghurt and pastries for breakfast. Sausages, mushrooms and eggs were all cooked very well and there was a choice of other breakfast dishes. The Dinner Menu could be simplified. We thought the best Starters were the Mushrooms and the Smoked Salmon dishes and the best Mains were the Trout and Lamb 3 ways dishes. The Crown is within easy walking distance of the Woodbridge Tide Mill; one of only two in the UK. Sutton Hoo is about 10 minutes drive away.

I'm not a terribly fussy eater but that was one of the least enjoyable meals ever. Staff members were way too overattentive and food inedible.

Booked due to reviews, price of B&B and closeness to town. One of the best value stays we have had. Staff were very friendly and the general atmosphere was relaxing and cosy, with a pleasant hint of provincialism. A great base for a walk through the town. We had hoped for a roaring fire, and the fact it wasn’t lit the only mild disappointment. Cushions on the chairs would be a suggestion as well, although no detraction from the stay. The room was an excellent size with very comfortable bed, pillows and all required amenities. Bath filled quickly, lots of hot water and a powerful shower. Breakfast menu was on a par with the best, and the salmon, scrambled egg and avocado on toast a great mix. All added up to a delightfully memorable visit - well done!

While doing a bit of family history trekking in Woodbridge, we needed somewhere for lunch. It was between Christmas and New Year, so eateries were busy with people enjoying the holidays and dining out with friends. Having walked around town, we tried our luck at The Crown. They were able to accommodate us, and we had a pleasant lunch in pleasant surroundings. The food was of above average quality and very enjoyable. The service was a little on the slow side, although that could be forgiven as the restaurant was pretty busy. The reception was warm and hospitable.

The Crown, once an attractive and busy local bar and restaurant of some quality and popularity, goes from awful to completely dreadful!! The hotel rooms are still pretty good, I think!The latest in a line of managers was completely un-receptive to advice or comment, and clearly not a people person!! So he oversees a small town hotel with great rooms, a lovely bar and nice restaurant that stands almost empty almost every night - save for a few bar-flies. And the manager or floorwalker cannot address the issues or engage with them - no music, cold plates (dreadful!!!), bare tables, zilch atmos - at Christmas!!, drab food. It's so very surprising that the cook Ben H puts his name to the kitchen as a selling point .The hotel is one in a group which must be quite unconcerned about the downturn in rep and profits! And this is over quite a few years!!The food is dire (and has been for some time!), the staff are bored and dull, the atmosphere is, well, missing, and the place is tired!!Why would one bother - there's the Table, the Anchor, the Riverside, the pubs (Kings Head, Red lion, etc. which OK serve pub food and a pub menu but most do it well, and so much better than the Crown!) within a walk of the Crown. I had wanted to finish with some positive - but it's difficult!!

Came for Christmas meal & it was mentioned there would be a dj included so we were expecting a few songs & the chance to have a little dance but were left dissapointed as it was a band & it was on & off music & not one hint of a christmas song was played , was expecting a little more for the £38 pricetag nice food but overpriced for what it was also felt rushed by the waitress as main came out straight after starter & they were clearly waiting for me to finish my meal at one point we asked for a delay on pudding for this reason, Wish i had paid a little extra for a dinner & dance to be quite honest.

Ordered full English breakfasts. £10 each. One was with pouched eggs. The other was with Scrambled. They were excellent! Very tasty and not greasy. Excellent filter coffee too! Would go back.

We popped in to the Crown to have a drink. We sat in a really big sofa that was so comfy. We could have stayed a long time reading the papers and chilling out, but we had a meal booked elsewhere. We will return to sample the food.
