Located just away from the northern Quarter on great ancoats Street this is a pub we have been using for decades and we always have a great time there. The place is full of history and it is worth a visit just to look at the ceiling alone believe it or not! This particular visit was on a sunny Thursday and the place was busy both inside and out but they still had loads of tables available. They have a fabulous range of drinks at reasonable prices and this is so varied there is definitely something for everyone. Another good thing was they always have loads of stuff on so you get served quickly and in a friendly manner. It was great to sit out in the Sun and enjoy a beer or two whilst watching the busy streets around you at the same time.

Stopped off here for a drink before a booked evening meal and were really impressed with the range of beverages on offer. It is an independent pub so had lots of choice of beers, ales, lagers and ciders and the choices we made were tasty. Friendly service and lovely internal decor. Worth a visit - we will be definitely be back when in Manchester next.

Called in on the way home. Great place, often really busy outside but not on a rainy day. Had a pint of Abbey Red and half of porter, Black Steel. Great to see an independent pub thriving with a lot of folks in mid-afternoon. Cool music too, not blaring so we could hear each other. Looking at their website, they have multiple activities so we’ll be back.

A great place for beers, amazing choice, friendly service and such a historic building to relax in . Memorable visit will return.

It is longer than I care to think that we have been visiting this excellent pub and it is as good as ever now. Nicely located on the edge of the northern Quarter. It is an atmospheric place and has an awful lot going for it. The staff are very helpful indeed, and helped us all select a beer that was of our type. They will let you taste them if necessary, which means you can’t go wrong really. It was late on a Thursday afternoon we popped in and it was nicely busy. The service was prompt and friendly and we enjoyed our time there. It has several rooms within it, so this keeps it cosy and it won’t be long before our next visit.

Pefect little old boozer in a decent location. Not sure they still do food but for a drink its perfect. Great choice of beers, helpful bar team and cosy but with outside seats when its dry. Love the place, a pub as pubs should be.

Iconic bar with a splendid interior - see picture - a mixture of neon newness and a unique ceiling (with mesh to catch flaky bits ! ). Good beer list and friendly staff too!

Easy corner watering hole. Clean and old. Good selection and nice stemware. Will return when thirsty. Good people watching pub.

Dropped in for a pint or two. You have to check out the amazing ceiling!!! Think Doges' Palace in Venice. The place does its job well enough and is no doubt benefiting from local gentrification. Slightly disappointed with the bare brick walls which I though last time I was there (ie last millennium) were nice wood panelling. Didn't really enjoy sitting outside by a busy junction. But ok ...well, more than ok.

Really great spot here, I’m a big fan. The beer garden has a lovely atmosphere and you don’t feel kind your sat at the side of a busy road at all. Nice staff and fellow punters. Plus a great choice of beers for those who like.

My friends and I paid C&K another visit for the Play Brew Tap Takeover weekend. We were assisted by a very enthusiastic and welcoming bartender. I think her name was Devon. She was quite knowledgeable about beer and guided through recommended beers. We had such a great time that before we knew it, we had stayed so long that BYOV had started! Overall, we really enjoyed the atmosphere which is in no doubt helped by having a strong bar team that look like they enjoy their job and love beer and music. We will definitely be visiting again for the Big Pour. Thanks to Devon and the team for a great day….and night of tuuuunes.

Visited with a few girlfriends a few weeks ago and absolutely loved our visit. Staff friendly and knowledgeable and they had on a wonderful IPA that I can’t stop thinking about. Will be back soon!

Wanted to come for a while and it exceeded our expectations. We both had the lunch deal with Juicy 'Gine, the Garlic&Truffle and La Rossa fries; all vegan. If was all soo delicious. The aubergine was so warm and soft, with a rich tomato sauce and some cashew cheese on 🤤 Will come back.

Have to be honest only went here as we were going to comedy club over the road. Glad we did. Super range of beers, great service and nice outdoor seats with heaters when it got chilly. 100% we would come back

Great authentic pub in the middle of Manchester. Better than all the tacky hype bars in the area. Great beers, good Limoncello, excellent selection of house spirits. Devon excellent manager.

We stumbled upon the Crown and Kettle whilst struggling to find somewhere to watch the Wales game. 15 minutes after kick off, it must have been clear that we were desperate and although the bar was packed, manager Sam was able to find us space...

I couldn't love the Crown and Kettle more if I tried. Staff have changed over the years and they're still as brilliant and lovely as ever. Devon and Emmy are absolutely class, Emmy even taught us about "ice cold" which is apparently a Gen Z...

Went down to Manchester on a trip with the wife. And was pleasantly surprised by the amazing survive at the crown and kettle, served by Bethany - would recommend!

Well what can I say... I booked this on bank holiday weekend not expecting much. Nathan and his team exceeded my expectations and more, welcoming, fun and top notch. If your in Manchester make sure you come here, you won’t be disappointed.

Had a drink in here on a bit of a pub crawl on Saturday afternoon, Its a lovely pub with lots of character, good selection of real ales too!

Although this is a little bit out of town and on the edge of the northern Quarter we try and find our way there as often as possible. It is an excellent pub that has a great deal going for it. The building itself is historic with an amazing ceiling and worth going for alone. On top of that, it serves a wonderful range of unusual beers at great prices. The staff are more than happy to give you a sample of each to ensure you get something you like. Probably because of its location it attracts a mature crowd who create a great atmosphere. Won’t be long before we are there again!

The crown and kettle is always my first stop when in Manchester. They have a very good selection of beer, all very well kept, some are down to personal preference and I don't alway like what I order but I must stress that this is my personal taste, not the quality of the beer. However I keep going back. Its a beautiful old building, friendly staff and comfortable environment.

A group of friends and ourselves visited this pub as it is one of Manchester's historic pubs and the building is quite unique. The ceiling and windows were interesting. Unfortunately the beer wasn't as enjoyable. One of our party couldn't continue beyond one mouthful of beer but the girl behind the bar refused to check the beer, refused a refund and said there was nothing wrong with it. Another of our party took their beer back to the bar to be told "thats our best bitter - there's nothing wrong with it". A third member of our group just left his beer on the table (a different beer but still not tasting right). We soon left so as not to waste any more money and won't be going back. There are far more welcoming and deserving pubs in Manchester than this one.

We have been using this pub for many years and always have a good time there. It is just on the edge of the northern Quarter but isn’t aiming to be a trendy place. They have an amazing range of beers and there definitely is something for everyone. The place itself is full of character and has a great atmosphere. You always spot something new every visit as it is an eclectic place. The jukebox is excellent and there is a nice little beer garden at the back.

One of the best real ale pubs in Manchester. Good range of real ales and wide choice of other drinks. Historic old building and it adds to the atmosphere when drinking here.

Unspoilt beauty of a place. The long & narrow, high windows did remind me of a church or temple. Great range of beers with a lovely lady serving behind the bar. What more could I ask for ?

went in here tonight (a Thursday) and it was open mike night so one side was pretty busy (and loud) though the others were much quieter. Still, very good range of beers even if you had to shout to make yourself heard at the main bar.

had a checquered history - see the netting above your head from any plaster dropping from the as-yet-unfinished renovation. been unfinished for a long time :)However, another gem in this area with plenty of real ales and ciders plus gin specials to have a go at.

A new pub for me, an old friend suggested meeting up to sample some cask ales. Brilliant pub, a unique atmosphere, they don't do plastic here! A must if you fancy a pint in the northern quarter of Manchester City centre.

Was on a business trip to Manchester and stayed in a hotel round the corner, found this gem by accident but was very pleased I did.From the outside it doesnt even look as if its open as the lighting is very subdued, but walk in and you are transported back to the 1940s and 1950s! Beautiful old style bar and lots of interesting and tasty beers...who could ask for more! Staff are attentive and knowledgeable about the beers. Wonderful!!!

We the beer lovers of Manchester were delighted when this pub rose from the ashes. Good range of real ales and wide choice of other drinks. Beautiful interior and nice atmosphere.

At the time of writing this, it has just won CAMRA'S pub of the NW which means that it is in the top 18 pubs in the UK. The decor is great as is the atmosphere. A place time seems to have passed over. Beers on handpump are very reasonably priced but the keg can get a little pricey. Well worth a visit.

Visted this pub 3 weeks ago after watching the football in The Shamrock (excellent pub). I was with my son who is only 19 ,and he went to get a round in.. He asked for a pint of carling not knowing it wasn't served as it was the first time he had been in here. The barman was quite nasty asking him could he not see by looking at the pumps that it wasn't served. A simple no would of done!! We had one drink and left. . Obviously having a beard and working in a dead end pub makes you superior ..

Good pub lunch at a reasonable price service a little slow had to wait a while for the food especially if they have a couple of drinkers in but all in all a good pub

the decor is worth a visit alone with stained glass windows to boot. Sadly, there was fire many years ago and so the ceiling still shows signs of this as the place was shut for several years (I am told). However, occupying a great corner spot a few mins walk from Piccadilly Gardens, this place has friendly bar staff, 8-9 handpumps plus similar number of keg. Pretty good choice.

I called in after work for a couple of pints and ended up staying all night. There were about 8 or 10 draft beers, together with numberous botted beers and lager and cider on draft. I can thoroughly recommend the Silver King which is apparently a constant in the pub. Can't wait for my next visit.

Good old fashioned boozer with an excellent range of hand-pulled beers at very reasonable prices. Good bottled range too with many surprises :)

Most characterful place with splendid architecture, multiple seperate rooms and 7 real ales on draft. Real ales are very reasonable priced too. A small but growing bottled beer list too. Friendly and knowledgeable staff who care about their beer. A must for a visit especially with the ever changing real ales.
