Food is pretty basic not much taste and the service is okay at best

Absolutely love it here! It’s such a lovely pub and we love coming all the time!

I was looking for a venue to hold my late fathers wake. The Cross Scythes was recommended. However, despite ringing them for days on end, both out of and during opening hours, not once was the phone picked up. I also emailed them, contacted them via their website and also via all available social media platforms, again- not a single reply was received. Kindly enlighten myself as to; what's the point in offering various communication forms, if you're not prepared to act upon any? At an already stressful time due to my father's passing, I for sure could've done without this extra stress!

It was so full of kids I thought I was in a nursery. There was noisy, wining, unruly kids in every single room, even in the tap room.

My own local, now a great pub again with a good selection of real ales. Dog friendly with loads of outdoor space.

Called in here quite by chance, as we'd caught the wrong bus home from an afternoon in town. So glad we did! Lovely outdoor area with plenty of tables and fairy lights ✨️

We had our parents 50th wedding anniversary party there and we did our own food but the service and atmosphere was very good. We also had the fenced garden out the back for kids to play football etc and for dogs to roam free. After they let everyone in so they could watch the Euro 2024 England match which ended well for us lol. Thanks to the owners and all the staff to make it a brilliant place to have a private party 🥳 🎉 😀 😉

Good atmosphere. Interesting selection of beers at reasonable price. £23 for bottle of wine seems a bit steep.

Had my husbands surprise party here after my local was booked. So glad we did the landlord and landlady couldn’t do enough for us. Giving us ideas for our do and even arranging the food. The bar staff we very friendly we were made to feel like regulars well we will be from now on can’t recommend this place enough. A big thank you to you all

Come here quite often, every Thursday there's either a pizza van or pie van (alternating weeks - check Facebook page). Dog friendly and parking around the back with outdoor seating on front and back. The only thing is I would love Aspall's to be available here but the closest thing they have is Inches cider.

The landlord is the most un hospital landlord in all of South Yorkshire, if you have kids do not take them. Just a general rude vibe constantly from him. Better hosting pubs in the area

Had a lovely (sadly only one night) stay. Very welcoming and helpful staff. Good overall atmosphere. Room had everything one needs, Good bed, though no chairs. Enough parking space, lovely building. Mind you: no lift to the rooms.

We had my husband’s surprise 60th here. Josh was brilliant at helping us arrange it and went out of his way to make it the best night. We had a great time and our guests really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Would recommend for any party or occasion.

Just had a wake here yesterday. Simple to arrange, very reasonably priced, everybody was impressed. The private room was just right for our requirements (about 40 to 50 of us), the cold buffet was of good quality and well presented. Service from Lisa and Josh was friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this place for a "bit of a do". Hazel and Neil.

Went here on Thursday (14th Sept)heard there's a food truck parked here selling pies and sides, big thumbs up 👍 the pies are amazing. Found out this truck is here every other Thursday I will be returning. Great choice by the landlord, good move to promote his pub and offering a food option. Staff very friendly and welcoming.

Great new owners doing their best in difficult times to turn the place in to more of a community hub. Hope they can make it work, pub has Great potential. Keep it up guys (Also lovely Guinness)

Decent pub, if it had a better beer selection could be a cracking local.

No idea what is up with the landlord. Last orders at 10:30pm on a Friday night, when the pub was full of people having a good time. Pushing people out and locking the back door to prevent people from cleaning up after a private party. So much potential and a great location. Shame the staff all have a negative attitude and clearly don’t enjoy their jobs.

A quick first visit here, the new team in charge are just getting going. They did not have their bar snack menu on when we visited but very kindly offered us a couple of chip butties! I think this pub will be well worth a return visit, all the signs look good and they had a nice, well-kept beer range.

Lovely to see the progress that Josh and Kat have made, in such a short time, since taking over the running of the pub. I can't recall the pub ever looking as attractive and well loved. Keep up the good work !

Bit rubbish that they had no john smiths or Southern comfort but maybe its because the landlord has only just took over

Our local pub which is amazing and great to take the dog to. The small plates food is banging for a snack whilst drinking. We walk in on a Friday night and can see that Josh has done a fab job as it’s busy!!

Food is fantastic at really reasonable prices! Food is available until 8:30/9pm which is a bonus. Overall a fantastic pub with great beers!

Rather a soulless place large room for functions but no food served! Was looking forward to 'loaded fries'

UPDATE 2022. We have returned, many times, and glad to say it's still really good and will continue to visit. I used to come here as a kid years ago and i loved it. Admittedly i don't visit much nowadays because I'm too lazy to walk but after visiting recently I must say it's still pretty awesome. It's obviously changed quite a bit but so have I 😀 It now seems a bit more classy than it was and even though we were only there for a bit it seems to have "character". Definitely will be returning a lot quicker than last time.

I was disappointed as we're quite fond of another Thornbridge pub (The Hallamshire House) But the Cross Sythes is growing a little tired. The girl who served us was lovely, as was the Lukas lager. It was just the building which was a bit of a letdown

It's OK Nice Venue Limited amount of ales never seem to have brother rabbit? Toilets are a big let down.

Nice local with beautiful pizza on Thursdays. They've done well to sort seating and good processes for the post-lockdown crowd and we're thankful for it.

Such a lovely pub- have been going there since I was just 8 years old. Couldn't see tonight, but they used to have the best playground in the back for my mother's alcoholic boyfriends back then, and when I got to 16 they let me and my mates play pool against the regulars. These days it's thornbridge brewery, so the beers are amazing, and lovely staff. I'm glad it's still a gorgeous place to be!

Friendly staff, poor sods wore face coverings but still managed to be friendly. We sat outside so didn't really see the inside as it was table service.

Just a quiet drink with father in law and brother in law but all very nice- no-alcohol beer was awful!

Went to, 60th birthday 🎂 party and buffet was excellent Pies we're 😋 very full of meat chips we're also good and of course Hendersons Thought drinks were a bit expensive though

Been here for a kids party. Good pub, good spaces and as you would expect from a Thorn bridge outlet great beer. If they did food we would make the effort to get over more often. Might try the Sunday night quiz, but who will drive?

Spent many a birthday party, wake, anniversary, retirement party in there. Nice beer, but hampered I think by the location. Clearly they make a roaring trade from private functions and fair play to them.

1 pint of thornbridge ale and a packet of jalapeno Snyders £6 = expensive. Sorry, but a smiling face at the bar isn't all it takes. Cmon cross scythes, you can do better
