Chinatown in Sheffield

Went here with one British friend and two Hong Konger friends, as they have recommended it. And they didn't disappoint. The service was second to none; prompt without being overbearing, friendly and welcoming. We were there at 630pm on a mid week evening and the place was already busy but not packed and the atmosphere was lively yet enjoyable - the place had a nice buzz about it as we entered. As for the food, we decided to order food we would usually get from a Chinese restaurant, and then compare, so our Hong Kong friends got the chance to introduce us to some absolutely delicious authentic Chinese dishes. All the food arrived together which is what we asked for and it was very prompt and perfectly cooked. We had a table with a glass spinner on so we were easily able to pass dishes around and try bits of each of the dishes. It made for a brilliantly enjoyable evening and before we knew it it was 11pm and time for us to be off. Highly recommend this place; I'd walked past a few times but never been in as it appeared very authentic, but I need not have worried, as I said earlier the staff were incredibly welcoming and the place had a great mix of nationalities dining there. We each had a starter and main course, two of us had two pints of Cobra, another had a pint of Carling and the fourth a lot of Chinese tea. The bill came in a smidgen under £100. Excellent value for money. Definitely visit China Town.

The staff were polite, helpful and friendly from the entrance to my exit and the food was brought hot in great time. The prawn fried rice felt was okay and could ideally have been tossed more thoroughly so the flavour was more evenly distributed. The prawns, within the rice had a delightful crispy texture that was a welcome addition. The steamed prawn dim sum wrapper was nothing special, though the filling was simple, yet tasty. I cannot wait to return and give it another try, however. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated with grand chandeliers and maybe the dishes I ordered have limited the review that I can provide thus far.

One of the few places in my experience to serve fresh dim sum - you can tell it's not just bought in frozen for cheap. Amazing choice of food - everything is of great quality, generous portions and fab service. Highly reccomend if you want some great Cantonese food.

I'm extremely disappointed with my recent visit to this Chinese restaurant. The service was appalling, and the food was subpar. We ordered a meal that cost around £12.50, but the staff seemed to find it amusing. Instead of guiding us through the menu or offering suggestions, they laughed and walked away. When we tried to clarify with the manager, he spoke to the staff in a different language, making us feel uncomfortable. The manager then informed us that they have a minimum order requirement of £15 per person, and if we didn't meet that, we'd have to take our food to go. The tone was condescending, and it felt like they were making fun of us. We reluctantly took our food to go, and when we ate it at home, it was a letdown. The dish had no flavor, and it seemed like it was cooked with the intention of discouraging us from returning. Overall, the service was unfriendly, and the food was unappetising. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Raw food and given vinegar instead of sweet and sour sauce, I never post about any restaurant but avoid like the plague

Visited on Sunday for pre Lunar New Year was absolutely packed, really good atmosphere, staff very attentive, food came out quickly and was really tasty. We didn't have a time limit on our table so we were able to have a really catch up. One of the staff members was really helpful finding my table for me when some of the others arrived late. My parents used to eat here when they were younger and still lived in Sheffield

Visited today for the first time, the food was absolutely amazing, freshly cooked & tasted great. My husband said it took him back to childhood authentic home cooking he used to have as a child. Having visited Hong Kong last year he said it is the best food he’s had since his visit to HK and being home in the uk. Staff helpful and friendly. We cannot wait to visit again.

Great food and atmosphere always

Located next to the city centre on a busy road, first floor Chinatown restaurant is a great place to dine in with family of friends or groups. very large portions on the foods reasonably priced and great tasting Chinese food. The food get served very quickly the staff are friendly and helpful at all times with a view overlooking the street.

We visited China Town on 5th October and were bitterly disappointed and went home hungry.We arrived and after an hour and a half we had only had our starters with no sign of our main course. We decided to leave and the staff informed us they were struggling because they only had one chef to cater for a restaurant brimming with customers!! A Saturday out ruined.

My favourite place to eat! Incredible Dim Sum at lunchtimes, recently had evening meals here too which have been incredible. The chef here knows how to make the best food and there is something for everyone. The prices are extremely fair as well. Special mention to Lewis who always makes us feel so welcome and truly looks after us. He takes the time out to make sure your dining experience is second to none. We just keep going back again and again.

Eaten here many times over the last year (both a la carte and dim sum) and it’s always been consistently good Cantonese and Chinese food. Lewis is a great host and makes us feel very welcome each time. Would highly recommend for Chinese food in Sheffield.

Food was pretty good, the 'Three roast meat' was excellent, so was the service. Worth travelling over an hour to get here. Parking around the back on the street, coin operated machine £1 for 1 hour and £2 all day next to ALDI (on this visit, may change) Near a couple of Chinese supermarkets so can do a little shopping and stock up before dinner. One of the best ones in Sheffield I think. Definitely come again..

This is arguably the best place in Sheffield for dim sums, roast duck and steamed fish. The quality of food is amazing. No wonder what the place is so popular with Chinese people living in or visiting Sheffield. Highly recommended.

It use to be good but not now, really disappointed, three dishes we ordered today ,none of them taste instead just heavy ingredients and flavors, staffs are okay. Never come again!

gorgeous food and excellent service

Great services, great food and reasonably priced dishes! We had 4 dishes and tea, that was £24 in total. Really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant too. We parked the car just behind the restaurant it was £2 for 2 hours on Friday afternoon.

Went for dinner last Saturday 1/6, 1. The mandarin duck fried rice was different than before. There was no sauce, the red noodles had no juice, only tomatoes, and the white sauce turned into transparent sauce. 2. Shredded roasted duck with rice, too loud, less meat, and out of shape 3. Desserts: I didn’t have much money at night, so I only had siomai and chicken feet. They were so numb. 4. There is a new official with a "bald head" who has a serious and bad attitude, and is insulting and has a black face. On the contrary, the attitudes of the other young children and my sister are much better (so I didn't get a single star for their service). Overall, the food quality and service attitude have seriously declined. Because of other options, customers will not come back if they are unhappy.

As being coeliac I was worried about eating here but was greeted and advised on what I could have, must say the food and knowledge was fantastic and really enjoyed with no reactions

My meal is not on the menu, I have regularly visited these premises for 36 years. They changed hands 4 years ago n this is why my meal isn't on the menu but they still make it for me and I'm always made to feel welcome despite being 'an awkward customer' This really is a beautiful place with gorgeous food at reasonable prices.

I absolutely love this place. My family had a tradition of going here for special occasions growing up when it was Candytown. Since having my own family, that has not changed since it changed hands to Chinatown. Food and service are second to none in Sheffield regardless of which menu you order from. Their treatment of little kids is brilliant also to the point my 5 year old only ever wants to go here when asked.

Best Dim Sum in Sheffield, and maybe North of England!

Be wary if you're not Chinese. I picked this place as the menu and photos online looked great; proper authentic and interesting food. I didn't know they have two menus depending on if you're Chinese or not. The white people menu is your standard takeaway style stuff which was fine but not why I wanted to eat here. There was another main menu that wasn't given to us that the Chinese customers sat around us were ordering from. Go to China Red instead; their food is excellent and they don't discriminate. It's not the 1960s anymore, this type of segregating customers based on their ethnicity is outdated and insulting. If I go to a restaurant advertising Chinese food then that's what I expect to get. Very disappointed.

Used to be our favourite Chinese in Sheffield but our recent experience was awful... The sweet and sour chicken was inedible (very strong vinegar taste, unbalanced sauce). Everything was very greasy and oily (much more than usual). Such a shame... Not sure if it was just a bad day but I'm not willing to waste my money again.

Great good and service, flavour is nice and not too oily or salty, even for authentic Chinese people. Loved it, wish Bristol have such standard restaurants. The scallops offer with prawn dish is awesome.

I came to Sheffield alone. I was cold and hungry in the rain. I had the best tea restaurant I have ever eaten in the UK! The taste is very good and the service is even better! The staff will smile and speak Mandarin with you, unlike some tea restaurants. The restaurant pretends not to understand (I'm looking at you Nottingham). It’s really good! You must try it when you come to Sheffield! (I eat a lot by myself, I eat a lot)

Banging Chinese food. Can actually say it’s the best in Sheffield.

Racist restaurant. I & a friend decided to have dinner here sometime Q4 last year (2023). The micro aggression displayed by staffs was appalling, also staring like they have never seen black folks before. We even tried to take pictures at the stairs while leaving, a staff literally approached us to chase us , I had to voice out that I want to take a picture.. is that bad? Considering the fact that Asians are immigrants, their racism to black people is outright disgusting. Fix up. The food wasn’t even worth it (see I wasn’t interested in taking any pictures, I have only 1 of the drink ) 😂 keep your coins folks

The dim sum menu here offers good choice, good quality and good value. Table staff are helpful and the service is efficient - recommended.

Just had food (if that’s what you can call It) delivered from here it’s tasteless all you can taste is water!!!!! Items missing it’s the worst food I’ve ever had will not be a returning customer first & last time!!! 🤢

Got to be one of my ever we ordered a set meal for two which had sizzling beef and other favourite dishes and more than enough for two and the service was great the staff was very polite and we never had to wait too long for our meal, we are already planning a return visit to Sheffield

Wonderful food, great service, reasonable prices. The waiter kindly recommended some of the best dishes. I tried the Chinatown Prawn Dumplings, Char Sui Dumplings, Won Ton Soup, and Coconut Pudding which were all delicious. Really enjoyed this place. One thing to note for diners; the majority of the dim sum menu is only available for lunch up to 5pm. You may still be able to order some things from that menu for dinner but not everything will be available.

Have eaten here loads of times over the years but it has really gone downhill recently. Last time I came here the vegetable chow mein was totally tasteless, just a horrible, oily mush with almost no vegetables in there. The prawn dish my Dad got was equally poor. We felt we had to say something, but when we told the manager - politely, I might add - he was rude and aggressive towards us. Basically told us we didn't know what we were talking about and that there was no problem with the food. Not sure if he's ever heard the phrase 'the customer is always right.' This place has been here for years but sadly it looks like they've become complacent. I imagine it's on the way out judging by the other reviews on here. A shame.

I ordered Ubereat, Crispy Duck and Kung Pao Chicken. Both were pre-made dishes and tasted just like airplane food. The Kung Pao Chicken basically had no chicken and was not worth the price.

Terrible food, bland and almost inedible. My son is vegetarian and he said it was the worse he has ever tasted. The owner was insulting and aggressive when we complained. This place is a disgrace to the excellent Chinese food I the area

Slimy chicken chow mein!!! Could not finish the gloop as it was vile. The chicken is NOT FRESH BEWARE. Complete waste of money and will probably get food poisoning after the couple bites I had Egg fried rice is completely bland and flavourless. Never had a worse Chinese. Moreover, they handed ubereats the wrong food so it took us double time to receive the correct order!

I went yesterday with my fiancé upon recommendation by a close friend and it Chinatown didn't disappoint!! The food was incredible and for the price it was an absolute steal. Chinatown cooked us the best Siu Mai I've ever tasted. Staff were warm, welcoming and friendly throughout. I can't wait to return in a few weeks for my birthday.

Duck is really good! Lots of other dishes, e.g. tofu ones, and pork ones, are quite poor in food quality and slightly higher in prices than Manchester’s Chinese restaurants.

Loved it. We wanted food. Just food. You could get celebration and great fun here hudging by what we saw but we just wanted good Chinese food. We got it. No nonsense straight forward service. We got what we asked for. On time. Happy staff and my God they are hard to find these days with grumpy kids and arrogant owners fed up you haven't had a bottle of expensive wine or the most expensive dish. Go for yourself. Enjoy it.

Good food and Cantonese cuisine

A hidden gem that I can't fault! Came here with my sister (no, she isn't my twin!) and enjoyed sweet and sour pork, chicken chow mein, prawn toast, egg fried rice and spring rolls. Every mouthful was hot, crispy and delicious and the service was exceptional - we were never kept waiting, the staff couldn't do enough to help and they even gave us fresh wipes after the meal (a really nice touch and something restaurants have largely stopped doing!). Already planning to go back and order some different things!

Ordered through Uber eats. Not a food snob but was so disappointed by the meal provided. Everything was so bland. The chow mein had zero flavour, and the chicken in it (of what little there was) was extremely slimy. The spring rolls wasn't nice. The sweet and sour chicken was dry in the batter and the salt and pepper chips might as well have been plain. Waste of £28. Won't be going back.

Best dim sum and Chinese cuisine in Yorkshire.

Went in to get a table, the lady refused to speak to us and was very unfriendly. Eventually she told us they were closed - which didn't seem to be the case when lots of people were in there eating and they close in a few hours. Won't go back as that was a very hostile and uncomfortable experience.

My favorite Chinese restaurant in Sheffield! The boss has a great sense of humor which crack me up every time. Every one is so kind and friendly. The food is extremely authentic. The atmosphere really makes me feel at home. Love it!

Nice, pretty average food, but served with an unordered side of misogyny. As the only woman at the table, the waiter decided to lecture about his opinions of women and marriage, focusing on how women “spend all men’s money” and are mean to their husbands. Didn’t ask. Didn’t find it funny. Was extremely uncomfortable.

Introduced by a friend for the first time, I feel very good decoration, very elegant, delicious dishes, and the price is acceptable.

Food cold under cooked made me and my two year old daughter very sick to point we spent a few days in hospital. They are refusing to get the matter sorted. Staff rude

Toilets, as well as interior, looked new and and clean enough. I came here for dimsum with my friends and was not disappointed. Everything was delicious and seemed fresh. Will definitely come back for more next time I visit Sheffield.
