I don't know if they have a new chef or if they were on holiday but this was so different to the delicious food we've had before that I couldn't believe the difference. It was all frozen: chips, onion rings, burger. Family couldn't even eat it, terrible. Used to proper cooked meals there like home cooked fresh, felt burger used to be made there not like the flat plastic thing I was given tonight. Didn't mind paying prices for what it was but not for this meal. Not going back.

Absolutely awful experience today. Sat on a table (which we had to rearrange ourselves) with black carpet and flies all around the table the whole time we were there. Lasagnes were burnt and very black all around the edges. Sent them back as not edible. One poor apology from one waitress who didn’t really seem to care. Took ages for new lasagnes to be served. One of which then looked like a pile of mush (see photo). So very very disappointing as this is our local and we had booked a table for our son’s birthday. This spoiled the whole day to be honest! Poor service and poor atmosphere. Hate to say this but we won’t be returning for food again!

This was the first time we visited The Cross Oak. My son is moving into the area so as a family we decided to go for a meal here…it 100% did not disappoint! The menu had loads of traditional meals and great value for money. Everyone loved their meals and the portions were huge! There was also a lovely local atmosphere in the pub too! We will definitely be back very soon!

We have just had lunch, we were four of us. Had a really lovely roast dinner meal. Choice of Pork, Turkey and Beef, you could have a combination of your choice. Cooked beautifully, with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, stuffing, parsnip and potatoes. separate dish of vegetables with broccoli, peas, carrots, swede. cabbage. Also another dish of cauliflower cheese served with gravy. Superb dinner, and good choice of desserts. Recommend.

I went along on Christmas day for lunch as part of a party for six. We were excited as it was our first Christmas lunch out and a treat for elderly parents. We were very disappointed to be served as the final but one table. We arrived at 1.15pm but the main course wasn't served until 4.10pm without a word of explanation from the staff about the delay. The food was disappointing with just one parsnip, one roast potato and one boiled potato. The carrots and suede seemed to have been out of a tin. The meats were good I was also disappointed that our neighbouring table had been told to quieten down because my party had complained. This was simply untrue and I was embarrassed to think that our neighbouring table had been made to feel uncomfortable. I realise that all your staff were working exceptionally hard but the management overstretched itself in terms of sheer numbers of diners. I emailed my concerns to the manager but I have never recieved a response. My family frequented the pub for Sunday lunch but we will now take our business elsewhere.

Had a lovely, warm welcome here but that was probably the height of our visit. Ordered starters which were fine but we were literally still chewing the prawn cocktails and our main courses were bought out, then they gave out the wrong meat and the chef started arguing with the waitresses that is was beef and it was most definitely lamb. Lack of vegetables, ordered 4 roast dinners and only enough for 2 came out. The worst roast potatoes I’ve ever had, anywhere! Huge, hard and black as coal they were disgusting.... I can’t stress how awful they were. Beef was tough and extremely hard to cut, no flavour to the dinner overall. Felt very rushed, food and service very poor. Over the top blonde manager/ hostess made it very uncomfortable for us to relax. It’s sad really to see such a good pub go downhill in this way.

We booked in last minute for lunch. Staff are very friendly, they were busy, the lady that took our order explained there may be a wait for our food, but to be fair, it wasn't long to wait at all as we were catching up chatting with family. We all had a different dish and they were all absolutely lovely. Will definitely visit again.

We arranged to throw a surprise 80th here for my Grandmother yesterday and I have to say we couldn't have had a better experience. The staff were so helpful & professional and really helped to make the day special. Considering we were such a large group, the staff were very much on top of everything, allowing us in early to decorate and double checking everything was right & set to go! They were even kind enough to reserve a separate section for us after the dinner so even though they needed the table back at a certain time, we could just move into the lounge area. The food was lovely too! Thanks very much guys!

Really lovely pub, atmosphere and very nice staff. My only complaint is the price if the food. I had a chicken dish from the specials page, it was basically a chicken breast in a tin of tomatoes with some ciabatta bread....cost £15! The food is over priced for pub grub! I will go back for a drink but not food.

Having been told that the Sunday lunch here was great I recommended we visit. Disappointed with the result. It was very much like a school dinner. Obviously microwaved to within an inch of its life. The veg was swede purée, yuk, that was baby food. Carrots peas and cabbage all piled into a dish. Messy. The meat was just like an Iceland roast! Thin slices all exactly the same.

This is a very efficiently run pub-we had a very warm welcome on our second visit. Nice menu, good specials board. My partner had the hunters chicken which he thoroughly enjoyed. Nicely presented and for once no salad on the plate to make the meal look larger-this is usually left on his plate and a complete waste! I had from the specials board the sweet chilli king prawns with noodles-I really liked this! A very nice evening!

The Cross Oak is my local so I may be a bit biased! The pub is a traditional Welsh one with exposed stone walls and various rooms, including an old style 'snug' away from the main restaurant area. The menu has a good choice of regular meals and a page of changing specials that are always worth the little extra. Food is well cooked, well seasoned and extremely plentiful!!The pub is also one of the few in the area that serves real ales. There are always 3 on offer at any one time made up of two regulars, Abbots Ale and HB, and a rotating guest ale that changes every two weeks or so.Thoroughly recommended!!

Friendly and pleasant welcome. We where shown to our seat and given a menu, in my opinion the menu could do with having some healthy choices as it seemed the majority was fried.I ordered scampi and chips it arrived quickly, the chips look home made which was nice they were nice, unfortunately the scampi which half filled the breadcrumb shell was more like prawn bits than scampi. In my opinion the meal was expensive for what it was.

Service is very good, but meals are high priced for what they are. £9.95 for large fish and chips - not large at all, very greasy (wet) and very mean portion of chips. Vegetable lasagne, salad (a couple stale leaves and a slice of tomato is not a salad!) and garlic bread £9.95; lasagne bland and should have been £4.95. The children's meals are outrageously priced at £5.95. My granddaughter is only 3, and given the price tag thought she would be getting a plateful and wasting it all, but no, 2 chicken goujons and a few chips and beans. Cutlery huge and not particularly clean (no smaller cutlery for children). This is a very popular venue with older people during the lunchtime period so maybe they get a discount? The menus on offer are however quite extensive, there is a lot of choice. Probably better to offer less of a choice and make sure the food matches the price tag.

My daughter and I went for lunch on Saturday 14th March, for my birthday. We just decided on the spur of the moment and wanted somewhere local. My daughter searched trip advisor and said this pub has good reviews. We are so glad we went there. My daughter had the lamb and mint pie and I had Steak and ale. Both of us had a fabulous meal. The pies were brimful of meat and gravy, the homemade chips to die for and the dessert - coffee creme brulee and chocolate fudge cake were superb. the staff were so helpful and pleasant. We had a couple of drinks each and the total cost for everything was £39.00. Bargain! If you find yourselves in this area, take my advice and don't leave without checking out the food in the Cross Oak.

went here with a group of friends, Was greeted b y a very friendly member of bar staff they offered to sit us at our table straight away but as we were still waiting for of others to turn up we had a seat in the bar first, once all our friend had arrived then we were all shown to our seats. Menu was of average size did all the usual food fayre, steaks, gammon, lasagna etc etc prices were an average £9.95 for a basic lasagne, steaks began at the £11.00 mark there were also a few specials including a lamb steak in a special sauce this was £18.95 . Our table ordered 3 steaks, and all cooked to perfection I had an islwyn chicken which was chicken breast cooked in a cheesy leek sauce and it was gorgeous lovely thick sauce with a divine taste and one of our group ordered the lamb which she said was beautiful too . All meals were complimated with gorgeous home made chips which we all enjoyed and also salad, peas and onion rings so good size meals ,. Saying that we all had room for desserts two of us had white choclate cheesecake and the other two choclate fudge cakes all good size portions again but i though a little expensive at £5.45 each but we all left empty plates . Meals were all delivered quickly and were all piping hot and bought to our table with a smile. so to sum up not the cheapest place to eat as there is cheaper in the area but we all really enjoyed our meals Would recommend to others and will return.

We visit here quite often. Its a traditional "rustic" pub with a lovely log fire & friendly atmosphere. There's a small lounge/bar area with a tv, couple of "booths" seating around 6 with other dining tables seating from 2 upwards. They do push tables together to accommodate larger parties. Something some other local pubs refuse to do.They have a conservatory, a nice garden plus another small room that's often catering for parties or wakes. I've priced their buffet and compared to some locally, they're very competitive. Service is excellent & the meals are of a high standard. They provide guest ales. The menu offers a good choice. They change the pie offering regular & the rest of the menu is typical pub grub like fish, burgers & scampi to the more adventurous like pork with black pudding. They have a daytime & evening menu plus daytime snacks. The evening gammon is massive- always lean, never salty & comes with home made chips, egg, onion ring, side salad peas, mushrooms & pineapple. My only criticism is that the triple cooked home made chips could be browner but I'm sure if I asked it would be done!

After a very disppointing meal the previous night in a supposedly 4 star establishment we decided to return to the Cross Oaks for a try having not been there for quite some time. We have had some really good meals there in the past and I have no idea why we left it so long to return. The welcome is warm. The menu is so varied it made it difficult to choose meaning we will have to go back just to try something else!. The service is excellent. Seven of us ordered and everyone of us cleared our plates. I think that speaks volumes. The portion sizes are generous. Every meal was really tasty and hot. The desserts were fabulous. We were treating visiting famly members who were staying in a four star establishment in the area. They had invited us to their hotel the previous night and we had a very poor meal there for twice the price. The Cross Oak puts them to shame and they should visit the Cross Oak just to see how food should be cooked and what good service is all about. We will return soon.

The chicken is so moist and the cheese, bacon and leek sauce so creamy and yummy. Then the most smooth and creamy cherry panacotta for afters this is the best I have ever tasted. And trust me I have tasted a lot over the years in a lot of very fine restaurants. Even my mother who has never tasted panacotta tried some of mine said it was gorgeous and would have it next time.
