Perfect for an overnight stop. Nicola (landlady) and Tom (bar attendandant) were very friendly. This is a nice old pub with a great atmosphere. Choice of mains @ £12.50 were delicious. It took about 25 minutes to arrive, which for us is a reasonable time to wait as everything is cooked fresh, and done properly. We were perfectly relaxed with Doom Bar, at £4.80 per pint. The room was basic, and a trifle cramped, but perfectly clean, adequate and included a good shower, comfy bed and tea, coffee and biscuits. Our bathroom was spotless. Usk itself is an intersting town with nice riverside walks. Based purely on value for money and and a pleasant stay it would esrn give stars. Thank you for mzkinv us so comfortable.

Just what my friends & I needed after exploring Usk in the rain. The food was reasonably priced. Drink was a little pricey but not too expensive, & got to watch Argentina beat Australia in the live rugby union match on Sky on the bog screen. Yes, I'd stop there again as shown good hospitality by the owner & her lovely cook.

Quirky little pub that I stayed in overnight. Parts of the pub are grade 1 listed and date back to 1350. My room was quite large and basic with an en-suite. There was Tudor plasterwork on the ceiling. Room was spotless clean and a comfy bed. Nicola the owner is a lovely lady and very chatty. I am booked in again in a few weeks time.

We went in for early evening meal at 6pm yesterday evening. The pub was not busy but we still had to wait for more than 30 minutes for food. I had medical condition and can drink water only. I asked for a mug of warm water and my husband joined me. When we paid the bill we were told they charged £1 per mug of water. No to say nowhere would charge people for drinking water only. Even if this pub usually charge for that they should have mentioned it to guests beforehand as that was not mentioned on the menu or anywhere at their place. It was the first time we have been asked for paying for plain water.

After a short stroll through this lovely village we decided on this very homely pub for a snack/drink and ended up spending several hrs in this place. Not entirely sure what the previous reviewer is talking about but we found nothing but welcoming vibes. Food is fine, beer is cold, staff are friendly. What more do you want?

Spent a few hours in thereon Monday this week with work colleagues, we were made to feel very welcome by staff in a lovely quaint pub. We had a number of drinks and food, along with many games of pool. Food we found was fantasy, one of the best steak n ale pies iv ever had. Thanks so much 👍👍

The Cross keys in Usk, it is a fantastic old pub with history, AND an amazing B&B, the room was lovely and clean, the owners lovely and friendly. Food... amazing! Always Hot and delicious. Breakfast was really really great with lots of coffee, juice and just one of THE best cooked breakfasts. Highly recommend this fab old pub. It has history, which for us makes it warm, interesting and quaint. It even is reported to have a ghost-however the only spirits we saw were Jack, Gordon and Captain Morgan! We will return!

I stayed in this B&B /Pub a while ago but altho not a particularly pleasant experience didn't bother writing a review on a chance encounter with the owner today now so annoyed with her attitude decided I would. My strong suggestion would be to AVOID this place and go to any other the other places in this lovely little town

On arival the car park was closed probably due to social distancing. So we parked around the corner. On entry the pub looked clean and tidy sanitising station outside with signe asking u to sanitise your hands and wait to be seated. Wich we did. After about 5 minutes waiting with no staff member in sight so we walked in to the pub. We were told to find a seat wich wasn't a problem as we were the only ones inside. We ordered drinks 1 glass of wine 1 ice water. Then we ordered food as in pictures. My pie was OK nothing special. Disappointing portion of chips Misses had lasagna and garlic bread with a side of chips. The lasagna was a good size but bland and chewy garlic bread was hard but chips OK though small portion. On the plus side the sauvignon blanc was v good. Sad to see an old pub like this so quiet but the food was no better than an average transport caff

6 of my friends walked in today and asked for a table for half an hour to have one drink. There was no smile when we inquired about a table and when we sat down we weren’t told the rules or how the pub works. So when we walked to the bar we were told to sit down. When a blonde lady came to take our order we asked about prices, she then responded with “ don’t piss me off or I’ll just kick you out”. We then refused to order a drink because of the situation and were made to feel like it was our fault for this awkward encounter when we did exactly what the older group of people who walked in just before us did, but got treated completely differently.

Stayed here with a couple of colleagues for almost 4 weeks. Found the pub to be a traditional and very welcoming place. Stayed in 4 of the 5 rooms and they were very clean and very comfortable. The food was delicious, pipng hot and home cooked. Owners and staff are very friendly and helpful, even offering to make us sandwiches for work. Couldnt.have asked for more.

They have an awful attitude here. They brought me the wrong meal - a broccoli bake rather than a vegetable crumble , so I asked for the right meal and the barmaid took it away. Then she brought it back again saying it was the right meal - adding that they put "extra cheese on their crumbles" (a dish that traditionally has no cheese which is why I ordered it). I pointed out that there was no crumble at all and was told "THAT'S THE WAY WE DO IT". I wasn't happy and when I went to pay I was told I didn't have to pay for it. I said thank you and paid - but then noticed she had charged me for it anyway! Much, much argument later and two trips back to her kitchen and one to another customer later I got a refund. I still believe they just thought they could pull a fast one. But maybe that's just, to quote the barlady " The way they do it there!"

A very nice pub and excellent staff. Went there for a lunch, initially thought the prices were a bit pricey (after all it's a pub lunch). When the food came out, WOW!!!!. It smelled and looked fantastic, a generous portion and the food was excellent. The food here is in my TOP 10 pub lunches.....I WILL BE GOING BACK......

This town is ideal for us as a stopover on the way to cardiff for the Speedway grand prix.its about an hour from the capital. We have stopped here for lunch before and thought we would use the hotel side of the business. The barman and beer were very good on arrival. The room was clean but quite old. Noise from the bar and the road outside came into the room. With the windows being single glazed and the room warm you had to put up with road noise. Ants did come through from the flower baskets under our window. For £55 it wasnt expensive but if you were to add £7.50 per person extra for breakfast it adds to a hotel that charges as much as it can for what they offer.

We wanted something quick to eat and the free parking in Usk brought into this riverside town. The Cross Keys is a very traditional, simple pub and does what it says on the tin. Good selection of beers. Nice menu of traditional pub favourites. We chose scampi, and they arrived quickly - hot and nicely but simply presented. Not gastropub, but we knew that and we got what we wanted for a very reasonable price. Long live the honest simple pub, I say.

Visited with my family on my birthday for a pub lunch The food we were served was not to the standard i would expect and my daughter found her steak & ale pie inedible We decided to make a complaint about the poor quality of the food and were approached by the chef who obviously did not like criticism of her food and was extremely rude to us She lacked any concept of customer service and failed to offer any empathy Her attitude was "this is the way I cook my food and if you don't like it, tough. I used to visit regularly to have a beer but will never set foot inside their premises again

We visited on a Sunday, and it wasn't too busy when we walked in just after midday. We were a party of 8, to be fair (although that is only the equivalent of 4 couples) but the food took nearly an hour to be served. We did ask for the children's food to come out with the starters, but this wasn't possible. A bit disappointing really, and the liver and bacon that I had was overcooked, and my daughter's lasagne was burnt. Not great really.

We stopped for an evening meal on our way to an appointment. The barmaid was pleasant & helpful. She checked that everything was ok with our meal. My partner had liver & bacon with mash & peas. He was very happy with his meal - an old classic which isn't seen very often.I had BBQ chicken & bacon with chips & peas. My meal was ok but the chicken was a bit dry & the cheese was mostly dried onto the dish rather than coating the chicken. I was slightly disappointed as I love chicken/bacon/cheese sauce combination. We will be back to give them a second chance and sample something else from the 'honest old fashioned' menu

Usk is a pretty little place and whilst enjoying a wander around we selected the Cross Keys to try for lunch. The inn provides quite a spacious attractive interior with character and the welcome was pleasant. It feels that it would be a 'locals' drinking bar particularly in the evenings (be warned - or encouraged - they show TV sport!).The food to be honest is pretty ordinary, quite acceptable but that's all. I tried the stilton & vegetable crumble which in truth was a few pieces of veg in a cheese sauce (I didn't find any crumble!). Whilst i realise that this could be construed as a description of a cheesy vegetable bake I imagine you will get the drift that inspiration was in short supply! My wife's sandwich was....well a sandwich! We left full and quite content but truthfully nothing would make you seek out The Cross Keys for a future occasion.

It was a though they had ordered in the cheapest possible option. The staff didn't ask if we enjoyed the meal and to be honest I don't think they would of cared if we didn't.Will not be coming back..........

Awful service. Visited today , approximately 1.15 and sat in the garden and ordered our food. 2 people came into the garden about 10 mins after us and hit their meal . After waiting 35 mins we enquired if we had been forgotten, and the surly middle aged lady said they had to cook the fish , even though they were not busy !!!! After another 10 mins we enquired again so 40 min in total the woman and the young boy did not even look up and acknowledge our enquiry so we walked out and hot brilliant service snd food at Wetherspoons .

The garden was lovely for children, that is all that is positive about this venue. The food was tasteless and the most disgusting food ever to be served. It was under cooked, with hard vegetables and clear water gravy! How they can charge customers for the slop they served today for Sunday lunch is beyond me. Never in my life have I ever experienced such rudeness from a manger or seen such rubbish food! We won’t be returning, and I’d advise others to not either. Such a shame, with the right chef and proper management, this place could be very popular.

Came here last November in the evening for a birthday meal and was blown away by the quality of the food, especially for how good the price was! Came back today to try their breakfast menu and it was very tasty for so cheap! Full english as well as continental fun under £10! Debbie was our server as she was brilliant, we've now booked in for breakfast with santa for our little one and are planning to come back to try the carvery!
