I would love to give this site 5 stars and I can see why others do. Spotlessly clean caravan, beautiful countryside. However, no matter how much you spin it, if you are staying onsite there is nearly nothing to do for kids or adults for that matter. A small play park and tiny soft play area and pool table in the events lounge just don't cut it. Indeed, went there twice with my grandchildren and all the kids in this area were bored out of their minds fixated on their phones or arguing. I blame the parents for dumping them. On site café only open Friday to Monday. Erm why??Staff in the Cross Keys helpful but food average or below. Also the food takes light years to get served. Shame that my first inclination was five stars and that I was looking what statics were for sale. Not for me I am afraid. Now a 3

Went for Sunday lunch today. The food was beautiful and fresh and a good variety. Unfortunately the big let down was cold plates which as we were served was obvious as no protection was needed. Needless to say this lovely lunch was cold before I had finished and the occasion was spoilt. Such a shame that something easily sorted could make a big difference.

After booking a half term family holiday through Hoseasons the kids were really looking forward to their first holiday this year due to Covid 19 and lockdown. We arrived quite late on a Friday at 8pm after driving there straight after work and went to the main Cowden holiday park reception but it was closed, I was then told by the bar staff at the holiday park pub to go to the cross keys pub down the road to collect keys for the caravan from there. I collected the keys from the pub and was then told that the caravan was sited behind the cross keys pub with several other caravans, which I thought was odd as we had booked to stay at Cowden holiday park which this didn’t really seem to be part of. On entering the caravan (no 10) the holiday started to get a lot worse!! Everything in the caravan was either sticky or dirty and the carpet to the living area was half missing! (See picture). The Sofa to the living area was well worn and also felt sticky and smelled really bad!! As it was getting late by this point and travelling some way to get there we decided to clean the caravan surfaces with anti bacterial spray and try to sort it out with reception in the morning. We went to the main reception in the morning at Cowden holiday park and told the receptionist about the situation and was told there were no more available caravans due to half term break and the only option would be to get a refund, which we ended up taking! Not only did this leave my children upset and without a holiday that they had been looking forward to, but to let a family with children stay in a dirty caravan during Covid Pandemic peak times and to have not even attempted to clean the surfaces, you people should be ashamed of yourself!! Absolutely pathetic standards!! To be honest I wouldn’t have let a dog stay in this caravan!!

Absolutely no fault of the park or Cross Keys. Will see you again somehow, but never again via Hoseasons.

Four of us for Sunday lunch - food was actually very good for a ‘pub’ , service was almost non existent -very slow and disorganised . The vegetables seemed to be fresh but very small portions - the desserts appeared to be home made. So, compared to most local offerings this was really good and we will return . The service does need to be improved.

The slow service was diabolical. We just got fed up of waiting for our starter which took around 45 minutes. The portions when they finally arrived were very small and not worth the price that was charged. The main course, again, when it finally arrived was very nice. But a couple on the next table to us sent their main course back twice as being uncooked and just about raw, and the lady finally walked out disgusted and just left her meal. All in all a very bad experience and we vowed not to return there again.

Visited for a 'traditional' Sunday dinner. If your idea of traditional is processed precooked sliced beef and gammon you are in for a real treat. Said meat came swimming in gravy that I forgot to tell them that I didn't want (my fault). 3 fresh veg arrived separately which was nice, would have been better if there was twice as much though as between two it didn't fill a third of the plate. I am told that the Yorkshire puddings were good as my partner had both as I avoid gluten. Also cauliflour cheese was part of the meal which was tasty. Total price including a pint and glass of wine came to just under £25 which I think was expensive due to the lack of quality in the meat products. It actually looked like a slice of shoe leather and had similar qualities. Will try this pub again but not for a Sunday dinner. All the staff were attentive but not annoying.

This review is of the Cross Keys Caravan Park rather than the pub itself. For some reason the caravan park isn't on tripadvisor in its own right. The caravan park is situated behind the pub, it's a small park of just 14 caravans, and is owned by Larkham Leisure, same as Cowden Holiday Park which is right next door and where you can access all their facilities. It's fair to say we found the Cross Keys caravan park to be absolutely brilliant. The caravan was spacious, modern and with good quality fixtures and fittings. It came equipped with everything we needed to enjoy a 'home from home'. We cooked each night and everything we needed was present. Each caravan has its own picnic table and grassed area (some bigger than others) where you can enjoy the outside space, especially when the sun is shining! The park is situated on a great part of the Yorkshire coast, with Hornsea nearby and Withernsea and Bridlington a little further. There's also a beach at Mappleton just up the road from the caravan park with a car park and loos. All in all we had a great time and hope to be back!

We have just returned from Cross Keys at Cowden Holiday park. It is a group of 13 new caravans in a pretty spot behind the Cross Keys bar and restaurant. Stayed in number six which was by far the best plot on the site. Sunny corner plot with large private garden area to one side with great views. No dogs allowed in this one. Number 9 is next best plot which I think takes dogs. Caravan was immaculate and beautifully furnished. Well equipped. Really comfy beds. Lovely towels and linen provided. Nice heavily lined curtains too for the bright mornings!! Hornsea and Bridlington near by are worth a visit. Useful little shop in the main caravan park. The Cross keys restaurant and bar itself is in need of refurbishment. The restaurant is dull and uninviting. We booked a table and when we arrived were handed menus and told to "sit where you like"(!!). We asked for water along with our wine and were given warm water with no ice. We heard the chef swearing loudly in the kitchen and whatever film he was watching was on at full volume. The waiting staff, although friendly enough, lacked enthusiasm. The food was actually really good however. The cross keys gourmet burger was excellent. Pity they ran out of steak pie on 'pie night' at 7.30. Handy that they also do take away.

Now that spring is here we are back to stay at the coast at weekends. We have visited the Cross Keys many times and experiences have varied. Much of the variation has depended on how busy they are and it must be difficult to predict this as it depends on school holidays, the weather and popularity of the resort. However, this visit was as good as any previous. Some refurbishment has taken place over the winter but it is basically the same welcoming environment. The menu could do with a little rethink but the "daily specials" represent a good choice and value for money. The wine list is good and we enjoyed "that Friday feeling" from the first taste of Pinot! Food arrived reasonably quickly and was beautifully presented. Well cooked, simple and most enjoyable! The staff are happy and smiley but very busy.We will be back and hope the standards are kept the same - even when the going gets tough!

Stayed in the luxury caravans behind the Cross Keys pub and went in there to eat on a Tuesday evening when it was pie night. The steak pie, veg and choice of potatoes, mash or chips was fabulous. The meat was tender and tasty and the deserts delicious. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Great little pub, a true treasure to find.

Have just stayed at the cross keys caravan park. We could not fault it. A quiet out of the way site with a lovely pub on site. We ate in the Cross Keys on two nights and couldn't fault it. Lovely food large portions and reasonably priced. The staff were really friendly. We had access to the facilities at Cowden holiday park but did not use them apart from going to the fabulous bonfire and firework display on the Saturday night. Perfect for a getaway from it all but within easy reach of all the coastal towns

Have to say that surrounded by static caravans this pub doesn't look like it's worth a second glance BUT have to say do not be fooled as the food is absolutely fantastic.

after a poor experience at a local holiday park this restaurant more than made up for or disappointment. We ate on three occasions at the pub and was looked after brilliantly. The food was A1 in fact there was so much tasty food, curry 1st chicken and leek pie and pasta on different nights, we could not find room for a sweet which I never normally miss. All home cooked, it did take a little while, but that was not a problem and well worth it. The staff were helpful cheery and attentive. First class. They also had offers on every evening.

situated a 10 min walk from the holiday cottage we were staying at Cowden in August we thought the pub was a good find , everything nice and clean ,friendly polite service luckily the weather was good as we had to sit outside because they don't let you take your dog in to any area of the pub .we tried the food I had a light bite prawn and cheese salad ,and my husband had a breakfast with chips it was very good ,had we been able to take our dog inside we would have dined there every evening the menu looked tempting 2 steaks and a bottle of wine 25.00,curry nigh t, chippy night ect. but it was a bit chilly to sit out at night .

We regularly visit the cross keys when we are in the area. We caught the light bite menu this time round that is served on an afternoon and was unsure if we would stay as we were pretty hungry but I'm glad we did to say they are smaller portions you still get more than you do at some other establishments well worth the trip as always well done keep up the good work

I visited here on Friday evening. My mum and dad have a caravan on the site so we decided to give it a go. We were not disappointed at all. On arrival you were greeted by the very friendly staff all of which were very hard working but still had time to chat and have a laugh. My mum and dad had the fish and chips ( 2 for £15) and i had the Horseshoe gammon. The fish were like whales in a very good home made batter. This was served with homemade chip and either mushy or garden peas. My gammon was massive with a good portion of chips, egg, onion rings and peas. Beut!!! Will definitely be returning. Plus the chef even had a smile for us.

I am of an age where welcoming friendly staff and immaculately clean toilets are a great start. However when we went into the very tastefully decorated dining room and surveyed the menu we were blown away with the choice. I opted for the Hog Trio 3 locally sourced delicious sausages, a wedge of black pudding, 6oz gammon plus the most enormous and yummy home made onion rings, home made chips (to die for), free range egg and tomato. It was all of a fantastic quality and simply yummy. My partner opted for 12oz gammon(!) chips, peas, onion rings, free range egg (pineapple other option)and loved it. It is clearly popular and rightly so and is a must to visit. Prices are very reasonable, choice is varied and wide, the chef is clearly skilled and passionate about what he does and the staff are lovely and friendly. Go visit!!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We visited this establishment a couple of weeks ago after a recommendation from friends regarding the food and how good things were. On that visit, we enjoyed our meals, although my Veg Lasagne had me all “cheesed out” still to this day, with not a lot of tomato going on and a lot more cheese, but enjoyable none the less.On this occasion however, tonight was a very different story and won’t have us rushing back any time soon I’m saddened to say.I have happy memories of this place as I used to work here many moons ago under different ownership and enjoyed the ambience and the craic we were having with old friends who were drinking in the there. It was explained to us as they were quite busy that there would be a wait on the food for approximately 40 –45 minutes, to which we happily agreed as we weren’t rushing anywhere. After an hour and a half however, we were slightly annoyed and very much thinking of just paying for the drinks and saying no to the meal. When the meal eventually came, my Gammon had no egg and there was a hair wrapped around my new potatoes. After waiting so long, I wasn’t about to send the meal back, although I did take the hair to the bar and explained the situation. My partner’s Scampi on his Surf and Turf was overcooked and he said had a “Chlorine” taste to it, so didn’t eat it. I have to say that this time, the meal was not as nice as the last visit and when we went to pay the bill, at no point were we offered any sort of an apology. We weren’t even going to mention what had happened, but they did knock my Gammon off the bill which I did not expect or ask for, Just an apology would have been nice! I am passionate about Customer Service as this is my job in the same trade and I have to say, it was pretty poor tonight. Remember your Check backs ladies! On the plus side, The real ales seem to be kept well. The well informed chap who was there on out last visit on a Saturday night, was not there tonight and we cannot help but wonder if this had a bearing on the lack of Customer service?I have to add, this visit will not put us off, and no doubt ‘in time’ we may return, but we will not be rushing back which is a shame as it’s such a nice place to visit.
