Lovely staff and excellent food, all homemade and very tasty.

Had a great afternoon with my talk stroke group for tea. Felt very welcoming from the regulars and staff. And they do a good cuppa T

30 plus members of our stroke club descended on the Constable Arms for an afternoon tea. Great experience, wonderful spread and great service. They catered for gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian and vegan with no problem! Extremely good value for money and quite a few of us took home a ‘doggy bag’ due to the generous portions. Many thanks for a great afternoon.

We called on the off chance of a late lunch with dog in tow! We were accomdated in the Conservatory which was fine with our dog. Both had Chilli which was delicious and plentiful. We booked the following day for Sunday Roast which was delicious and very large portions! We will definitely return next time we are in the area 😀

Wednesday night is curry night at the Constable, but as this is a meal deal for two curry was off the menu for me with two curry shy companions. Thankfully the regular menu is also available. I chose the garlic mushrooms with garlic bread as a starter, and the steak and ale pie for my main course. My wife chose the spring rolls and pie, and mum (the birthday girl) the same as me. As on our previous visit, spring rolls were off so the alternative of prawn cocktail was chosen. Overall impression was of a menu of limited choice - one pie, one beef casserole, some burgers, two pasta dishes, two steaks, and just four starters (spicy prawns being the fourth). Our food though was tasty and portion sizes very reasonable for the money. The pie was as good as it gets - short crust pastry and packed with tender meat. One faux pas was bringing mains when one of us was still finishing the starter, but there did follow an apology for what had been a misunderstanding in the kitchen so no harm done. Strangely we were asked if we wanted our starters and mains together(?) and also food and drink items have to be paid for separately for some reason. A bottle of Hardy Shiraz was just £15 - not bad for a pub. Overall a thumbs up - tasty and plentiful food at a reasonable price of £20 a head

Just had fish and chips here on fishy Friday and I can honestly say it was one of the tastiest piece of haddock I’ve had for a long time. The chips were proper home cooked chip shop chips too. Friendly service and great beer. Will be back again.

We went along for steak night as it looked like good value for money. On arrival we found we had been placed in the conservatory which was unoccupied save for children running in and out of the beer garden. We asked to be placed in the main part of the pub and was given a much more suitable table; just not quite sure why we were put our there in the first place. Although a steak night there was a regular menu to choose from as well. Starter choices a bit limited and when we asked for spring rolls the response was 'they are off we have samoa's instead'. We worked out that meant 'samosa's' and my wife opted for those. I chose the mushrooms with garlic bread - to find that the bread was regular white toast with garlic butter. We both chose sirloin for main course - to be told that 'the chef only likes to cook steak rare or medium rare' which we thought was an interesting take on 'the customer is always right'. For the record we both agree with him - but not sure the chef should have a say! My steak was medium rare at best (I asked for rare) but was both tasty and free from gristle - unlike my wife's which was marbled with gristle and way too chewy for her as a consequence. The staff were pleasant enough although we sensed a degree of inexperience both behind the bar and at the table (we noted that the older woman - possibly landlady - who we spoke to on a previous drinks only visit was not around) Overall the experience was 'interesting'. Although we rate it as 'average' we would prefer a 'good' option rather than the 'very good' available to us. We will be back as we suspect that the regular menu is worth exploring (albeit with a limited choice of starters), and are reasonably optimistic.

I went out with a couple of friends for a birthday meal. I used to live in the village and quite often took my children for an evening meal. Happy memories of a friendly happy place with plentiful lovely food. I ordered a steak pie (bog standard) which came with chips and peas. Well we all had chips with our meals - brown but cold/raw (frozen?). I took mine back and they came back very hot (microwaved?). I didn’t eat them - I do much better quinine at home. Another of my female companions asked for hers to be cooked more and the new-management treat her like a child - refused and condescending (she is 77 years old). We went back to my place for dessert - couldn’t get away from the place fast enough!! Avoid

Food was freshly cooked which caused some time delay. But was well worth the wait. Staff helpful and friendly. Quiet afternoon when we arrived so no real atmosphere about the place. All in all good value for freshly cooked simple food.

Nice outdoor seating area, wasn't overly busy, Lady behind bar extremely friendly. Chicken dinner was fantastic homemade Yorkshire's to die for. Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Went with work family for a meal. The portions were huge, should come served with a pillow :-) would highly recommend the Thai Red curry

Went as a family the menu has changed since the new owners took over and there is not the section like before, no specials board, the kids were looked after very well starters were fine but the main course left a lot to be desired, home made steak pie was well baked and dry inside to say the least, the garlic bread on the chicken kabab was like cardboard, the fish was watery with soggy batter, so all in all not a good experience

Had a great Monday afternoon with excellent food at a very low cost and a brilliant young girl singing and of course bingo, The staff are really friendly and professional and I can’t recommend this place enough.

I can not comment on the food because we didn't eat there ,but we shall put that right soon, a lovely atmosphere ,and friendly staff

Could be a lot nicer. Garden very tired and run down . Also allow people I presume regulars to vape in there. Hence we left after one drink and decided not to eat.

Well what a difference a day makes, after getting excellent service on the Sunday lunch menu with a wonderful waitress I called again on the Monday for lunch , it apparently was the Monday club with live entertainment later , I sat at a table and waited and waited for someone to take my order, the one chap taking the orders was rushed of his feet with two bored looking ladies behind the bar just stood about as most of the customers were drinking only tea , the ones behind the bar could see me sat waiting but made no attempt to speak with me after a while I upped and left , what a disappointment after my positive experience the day before, I won’t be going again on a Monday that’s for sure.

Called in for Sunday lunch , food was excellent but the service from the staff especially the waitress was exceptional, very friendly and attentive nothing was too much trouble, well done 👏👏

We met friends from Lincolnshire and decided to visit Burton constable campsite to book holidays their so was a good idea to try the constable Arms out and we were all four of us very happy we had booked a table for four. It was a great experience from going to the pub to leaving. Very good atmosphere very friendly staff and plus 10 for our meals food lovely. Will defo be back when we on hols down the road on campsite.. thank you...

Food is unbelievable! Not your usual pub food, it's 5*, with pub prices.

We dropped into this pub the evening before we viewed a couple of bungalows in the village of Sproatley the following day. We only had a drink but the service was excellent and friendly and helped to underline the positive atmosphere we found with all of the people we met in the village. Just hope we can move there and call this place our local!

I've been here a few times now and each visit has been consistently great. The service is top notch and the staff really listen to adjustments needed and put them in place if possible (Dietry requirements, a table in a quieter area, etc.). There is a wheelchair accessible entrance in the form of a ramp at the rear. There isn't an accessible toilet from what I have seen. The toilets the cleanest I've seen in a pub! They take cash and card payments. There is a large carpark for customers. I have the fish and chips which has never failed me. They do put spices/pepper on the chips as standard so just remember to ask them to not put it on if you don't like pepper/spices. The desserts are nice and generous. The food is operated by the Constable Arms themselves, whereas the drinks and bar are part of Marstons.

Four of us had a 3 corse Sunday lunch and the food was outstanding and you got plenty, and the price was very reasonable will defenitley return when we visit burton constable 😊

Great pub, dog friendly, drinks reasonably priced, food amazing and good prices, large potions, good choice of menue, pleasent staff. Would highly reccomend a visit, 5 star plus, sorry dident get a pic of the garlic mushrooms, but hubby enjoyed them also.

The constable arms is a nice traditional pub. There is a wide choice of beers and largers including cask conditioned real ales. There is a large lounge, conservatory and separate bar with a pool table and dart board. The food is not the same as in other Marstons pubs they do there own. Live music every Saturday night. There are two outdoor seating areas and a large car park.

Delicious home cooked food, Special menu days ...we first opted for a Thursday "steak night" steak is from gary Allen's butchers in Hessle, High quality meat. Generous portions steak came with chips & peas.. We then revisited on a Friday " Fish & chip" day..once again quality of foid was high & generous portions . We are planning a return visit on a Wednesday to sample the Curry night !

The website says that there's food served on a Tuesday. Unfortunately, when we turned up that wasn't the case. Bar and staff were friendly enough but couldn't rate the food

Ordered for collection today, we got two big mick burgers and all I can say is wow these are amazing and so filling. Excellent service and was ready within 20 mins. We will be ordering again that’s for sure!

Heard about the chefs experience so decided to try it and glad we did the chef asked what we dont like 2 weeks before our meal and then put together a menu of about 5 courses in all starting from sourdough with olives and dips to sushi lamb cutlets and more through to dessert, me and my wife were presented with a different dish each for every course as the chef knows we like to try each others dishes so a lot of effort and preparation went into this even down to the wine ,a glass per course and each time the chef came out to explain what was in each dish it felt worthy of being in a high end restaurant but it was just in my local so easy and waitress molly looked after us very well the whole experience lasted about 3 hours and was great not knowing what you will be served so really enjoyed it and will be doing it again ,and the photos are only some of the food we were very full at the end

My parents came across this little Gem when staying at sand le mere, after purposely trying to make me jealous by sending me pics of there gorgeous meals and puddings (especially the sticky toffee pudding).I had to try it out for myself - OMG !! I was not disappointed, the Sunday lunch was divine, the gammon was cooked beautifully the roast vegetable were the nicest I’ve every had, everything was fresh and hot. My son had the steak and chips and could not fault it, cooked just the way he asked - the garlic mushrooms are amazing. Despite all being pogged we couldn’t resist a Jaffa cake pudding . We were served by Mike who was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.We won’t visit our caravan now while next year but I’d happily take the hour drive from my home town of Featherstone just to have lunch here again. Thank you Constable Arms from your new very happy customers ☺️.

Visited for lunch with friends, plenty of parking, nicely refurbished without spoiling the character of the place. New menu with a specials board too. I had the vegetarian Katsu curry with fried rice which was amazing, in fact the best veg curry I have had when eating out as they are often bland, nice to find a chef that can actually cook vegetarian food with taste! The rest of my party all agreed their food was excellent. Didn’t have a dessert but the sticky toffee pudding looked gorgeous & my friend gave it the thumbs up! Can highly recommend & will definitely be back

on 27th september we ended up here as we couldnt get into railway, or stag inn, at first we thouhgt looks ok , good reviews. we were seated straight away and ask for the menu bu the guy said its quicker if i tell you what we have, a choice of 2 dishes so we opted for the sunday roast, when it came i was very disheartened, sweet cabbage, 1 small piece of broccoli for the 2 of us a few parsnips, 2 roast potatoes, and the yorkshire pudding which came out of the freezer and was not home made, we were starving so ate it and quicky paid for the bill to which we were gobsmacked , £26 for the roasts without drinks wow , the ohter places i mentioned above are far superior and cheaper, will not be going back, shame really as we only live the next village.

Popped in Tuesday our first night of camping a the nearby Burton Constable Campsite and was very impressed with friendly welcome, the menu looked brilliant so I treated myself to a steak and my friend had a burgerThe food was out of this world, we were so happy we went back the next night and tried other things off the menu, Landlord very welcoming and after two night I almost felt like a local. Cant recommend enough

Called in Thursday evening with my wife without a reservation based on reading the comments on Trip Advisor and definitely weren’t disappointed.The hosts are very welcoming and the pub has a nice relaxed atmosphere. I went for a sirloin steak, beautifully tender and flavoursome with triple cooked rosemary chips, garnish (salad and cherry tomatoes) and amazing mushrooms cooked in garlic. My wife went for a starter of tomato and basil soup which was thick and rich, very tasty followed by scampi, which wasn’t on the menu, with chips and peas, again she enjoyed both courses.The steaks at The Constable Arms are 30 day aged and all of our food tasted of fresh ingredients.Service is good with reasonable waits for food which is all cooked to order.We were so impressed we returned twice more over the weekend, finishing with Sunday lunch which again lived up to all our expectations.Overall a very nice country pub, good atmosphere serving beautiful food at a reasonable price.We are already planning a return trip.

We had booked a table for 7pm this evening, when we were taken to the dining room we were shown a menu and told there were no burgers available, we decided to order steaks but when she came to take our order we were told there were no steaks either, the only other thing on the menu I was willing to order was the haddock but I heard another customer say the batter was nice but not much fish in it. There was nothing else on the small menu we wanted so left our table. We complained to the manager who apologised and said it was a fault with the supplier , we had to leave our drinks as my husband had to drive us somewhere else to find us somewhere else to eat and he did not want to drink and drive. We were very disappointed, we were not even offered a refund for the drinks we had to leave or a voucher towards another visit. Perhaps they should have explained the menu shortfall before we ordered drinks and were seated. Thankfully someone had cancelled at The Gardeners country Inn and they were able to accommodate us at short notice and the food and staff were fantastic.

Had an amazing dinner here during our camping trip to Burton Constable. Service and surroundings are lovely. We opted for the pub menu and was blown away. Food was amazing, hot and plentyfull. Really highly recommended. Hats of to there chef.

Myself and my partner visited last night for a meal. Cooked to perfection. We both had the fisherman's platter which was delicious. Highly recommended

We decided to try constable after staying away from the pub for a few years so heard new management and chef in place so decided to give it a try as I've lived in the village a few years but always gone elsewhere because the previous managers served terrible food ,It was lovely we both had starters of squid for wife and black pudding for me served in a posh way the chef obviously loves his job and beef for our main and veg which was one of the best I've had so we will be booking every other sunday for a meal washed down with a very reasonable priced bottle of wine

9 of us had Sunday lunch not one complaint everyone commented that the whole experience was excellent especially the food. Best Sunday lunch ever.

Came here for lunch, on arrival the staff were out at the front smoking, it took an hour to get our food and we were the only ones dining! The food was just passable .The baby chair was so shoddy we chose not to chance it, this pub needs some tlc , the paintwork was battered x haven’t been here since x hope it has improved

We Live in the village of Sproatley and the food at The Constable Arms is fantastic and delicious especially Sarah’s homemade Yorkshire Pudding wrap... wow what can I say it was huge and filled with a full Sunday Roast dinner along with roast potatoes, side of cauliflower cheese and gravy. Was very filling and so tasty.... worth every penny. Sarah and Nigel are fabulous friendly hosts

Popped in on a quiet Sunday lunchtime. Was told that some of the menu options were unavailable but there was still plenty that was. Service was polite. We both had the fish and scamp which came with chips and mushy peas. The chips were home-cooked and delicious; the scampi and fish both tasted nice as well. The pub was practically empty when we arrived with a few solo drinkers joining at the bar as we were leaving. Would pop in again if we were passing.

We took my daughter to the Halloween party at the Constable arms on 31/10/2019 and what an amazing night!! My daughter absolutely loved every minute and all of the children were made to feel so welcome! Thank u to Sarah and Nigel

Fantastic lunch time menue with two courses for £8.95. We had the the roast beef and carrott cake which was absolutely splendid.

Sorry to say but the food served up last Friday was poor waited 45mins for our food but when it arrived the chicken was dry and curling up at the edges and the stake pie was flaky pastry with very little meat in its a shame as the staff were very polite if the food was 2 4 £10s then except that's what you get but it wasent SORRY

Went for lunch today for the first time. We couldnt have been made more welcome. Great choice of home cooked food. Steak pie was really good. Cant wait to try other choices.

The food was pretty standard pub food. But what made it better was the very lovely and friendly staff.

We called in for food tonight and was pleasantly surprised. I've driven past this pub loads of times but never eaten here. The food was excellent and well presented. I had gammon and it was at least 3inch thick. The wife had a burger and the kids had chicken nuggets( homemade) and pizza. It takes a lot for my kids to eat their dinner but they really enjoyed it. The biggest plus point was the service. Very friendly and polite service, we even had a visit from the chef which was a nice touch. Well done

A great village pub we’ve been in a few times for a drink and always say we’re going to eat there and last night we did.The food was fantastic with great service and large portions at a very reasonable price we all left totally full. We will definitely be eating here again in the near future.

Called in one Sunday lunch time as we'd been out shopping, we only live about 3 miles down the road, I drive past most days with my job, and we'd never got round to popping in to check it out. Its a Lovely, friendly village pub, but was very quiet the day we called in. Although we didnt eat, Sunday lunch of chicken or beef was on the menu and it smelled lovely, proper home cooked food.

This place is a real find, all home made meals, the service is warm friendly and left with full tummies and fond memories, we will definitely be returning xx

I just wanna say that Nigel and Sarah are amazing! Such warm people and always friendly and with a smile on there faces. I would even go there just for them. They are incredible and you can tell they work really hard.

Love this pub. Caters for almost anything. Food very good. Very friendly atmosphere. And the Owners do such a lot to help local charities.

Had a family meal this Friday. All the meals - burger, fish, nuggets - were great. Home cooked chips, large tasty fish and burger stacked with bacon and cheese. Nice atmosphere, would highly recommend.

Just had a fantastic family meal (Again) in the Constable Arms. The food was freshly made and plenty to fill the biggest of appetites.

Me and my husband are regular visitors to the Constable arms we love the home cooking and friendly atmosphere. Sarah and Nigel are so welcoming and cannot do enough for you. We highly recommend all on the menu but especially the famous Yorkshire pudding wraps are a must try for a Sunday.
