Unfriendly Staff, Food an greasy and to spicy, no service, never again, not recommended, inattentive, wine was warm!!

Stopped off for lunch here and it was fabulous. All of the staff were so friendly and attentive. Would definitely return as it was not badly priced.

Out for dinner with Sheena last night and it was very good. We had the high tea menu, which finishes at six o'clock. Sheena had fish and chips, recommend, Jacqui had the roast of the day (pork) recommend, Derek had the steak pie (made in-house with flaky pastry, recommend, and I had the smoked cheese and bacon macaroni. All followed by scones with jam and cream and wee assorted cakes (chocolate size) and tea/coffee. Attentive but not intrusive staff, lots of smiling faces - so rare in the hospitality industry nowadays. Very nice and quite "Olde Worlde". We'll have to have lunch there.

Absolutely fantastic experience. Misty #2 made it so much fun. My daughter and I had smiles on our faces the entire time. A memory shared that we will never forget!

Had the High Tea. Roast of the day was beef and it was delicious. Husband and daughter both had macaroni cheese and loved it. Tea scones and plenty of cake (had to get a doggy bag as couldn't finish) Staff so friendly and attentive and good atmosphere. Highly recommend.

We went for afternoon tea. The place is attractive and the staff were nice if not especially attentive. The food was not great and, unfortunately for me, since I take milk with my tea, the milk was off. I would recommend it for a drink because of the cool atmosphere but dine elsewhere.

Delicious food with a great variety on the lunch menu. 1st class table service and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend trying if you haven't already.

Terrible Food, don’t really know how you can make steak pie taste so bad. Tasted like eating powder gravy. Clearly left under heat lamp dried out food. Fish platter even worse, soggy batter just disgusting. Waiting staff made no effort to rectify any of this. Changed full price when it was clear that no food had been eaten. Seriously disappointing don’t waste your money..

Great selection of locally sourced foods, with a distinctly Scottish theme. Pleasant wood panelled dining room with very helpful friendly staff. Good value food with a decent drinks menu. I had the King prawns with garlic, parmesan and spinach for a starter which was very good. I asked for mine to be served without the tomato coulis. My main was Balmoral chicken which was served with Stornoway black pudding and a herb mash, with a very nice savoury gravy. I couldn't manage afters.

Excellent service and excellent food for a wee Saturday lunch in Stirling. I went for the special’s of the day as recommended by the waitress and it was very good, my partner chose of the menu and that again was very good.

Nice atmosphere; good for a cold drink but skip the coffee - machine-made and not drinkable. Did not eat so can't comment on food.

Go here quite regularly as the food is really good, we were a table of eight on a very busy Saturday and the service was brilliant, staff are lovely, the chef Paul is superb, highly recommend

My husband and I decided to treat my sister and her husband to lunch. Cronies bar is tastefully designed and well laid out. Most of the staff were very professional. Unfortunately the female waitress who served us was loud and could easily have come from a Rab C Nesbit audition. The men wanted steak from the A la Carte Menu my husbands arrived under cooked most of which was gristle the steaks were smaller than the palm of a ladies hand a very pricey nibble for £25 each.We enjoyed the rest of our meal. But the loud waitress spoiled the atmosphere. If anyone on here knows where we can get a large American sized steak we would be very grateful for the information.

dropped into this place whilst in Stirling for a spot of lunch. Did not have a reservation. Starters & Mains orders. What fantastic food was served, it could not be faltered. Staff were excellent and waited on us well. Good value for money.

At the time of writing, this restaurant is the 51st best on TA in Stirling. Wow. The mysteries of the algorithm. No way, never, not a chance. This restaurant is excellent, easily top 5. I found this purely by chance after being turned away by Brea for not having s reservation. I fell lucky. What a fantastic find. Its a gem! Food, setting, Staff. Ambience all brilliant. Superb quality and priced unbelievably cheap. This restaurant could easily charge 20, maybe 30% more per dish and it would still be worth it. Top quality. Top place. Top Staff, fantastic!

Popped in as a casual diner on a Monday night and we were very pleasantly surprised. The staff were excellent and service overall was very good. But we were there for the food and it was excellent. Well presented and very enjoyable with prices that were very reasonable. The surroundings and ambience added to the experience so 5 stars from us.

Good location in central Stirling, this is in the Golden Lion Hotel. Been a while since my last visit so was looking forward to a recent couple and wasn’t disappointed. Once was just for drinks in the bar, which has a nice atmosphere and good staff. Second was for a meal. Food at Cronies is always tasty and a good price too. Love the Mac n cheese! And the staff spare excellent!

I've been here before and liked it but probably won't come again. The cook can't even make frozen chips. They were so underdone they were almost raw. The veggie burgers arnt great either. You get a better veggie burger at Mcdonalds for have the price.

There was a good menu to suit all. On the first night of my stay I had a lovely fish and chip meal. Chunky chips and a beautifully cooked fish.

We dropped in for a midday sandwich however, ended up taking advantage of their 'specials' lunchtime menu and enjoyed a delicious light meal. The food was great value and the staff were excellent, friendly and attentive. It was very busy and appeared well patronised by local people which I always consider a good sign.

I had the fish and chips and a dessert and my husband had the steak pie. All were beautiful and served quickly.

Food was fine - extensive menu of ‘pub grub’ but fairly basic.Our main issue was the service. We sat outside. The first lady was very friendly and then went downhill. Before our food even arrived another woman arrived and tried to hand us the bill. I was a little surprised and said that we hadn’t even had our food yet! Food arrived delivered by an older gentleman. We were missing a portion of chips. Rather than admitting any mistake and apologising we were told they were just coming. The length of time they did take showed they were clearly forgotten! Once the chips arrived we were again handed the bill and rather than any niceties we were just told the amount. To put into context, we were with my 95 yr old nana on her zimmer so wouldn’t be going anywhere quickly! I did ask if they had problems with people running off and he said yes, however the people next to us didn’t appear to have their bill forced upon them before they had even taken a mouthful!If their policy is to ask for payment immediately due to issues outside then there are much nicer ways to deal with it (I appreciate it isn’t entirely unusual for outside seating) than the abrupt manner we had. It certainly put us off ordering anything else or returning!

The first thing to note is that the food was great. One waiter (young Scottish lad) was friendly and talkative whereas another (an older Eastern European lady) was not. The food was served quickly and was great. However, it certainly didn't look as glamorous or impressive as the pictures on the website suggested and it is, essentially, a City pub that serves good food.

Came in for dinner other night had the fish and chips and was the best i have ever had. Service was outstanding had one lady who was great really good and made us very welcome and pulled out all the stops to make us feel very welcome we never stopped laughing with her. Very clean, food spot on so will definalty be back again

Pre booked table - arrived in good time - table was next to wall with plastic shield on other side - covid - tight for space - food and drink ordered and arrived quite quickly - looked and tasted good - staff found it difficult to serve food and clear up plates due to lack of space - needed our help. Mixed staff from good levels of chat to very little chat.

Had high tea here today and our meal was excellent. Food delicious and staff efficient and friendly. COVID 19 precautions excellent. Will definitely be back.

Just had a really delicious meal but glass of wine had lees in the bottom of the glass. Said I wasn’t Happy to pay for it, but when I said that the waiter threatened to call the police if we didn’t pay. Bit heavy handed of him, and his explanation why we should pay for this foul in the bottom of the glass didn’t add up. Would have given this restaurant a good rating but for a £5 glass of wine that was rank, I am now giving this a lower rating. Make sure you dont get the last glass from the bottle!

We were hungry after not getting into our favourite place!! We came here for dinner, it was clean and tidy so we gave it a go. We were served quickly by a young lady who seemed very nervous, not sure what happened as we never saw her again, the drinks were served by another lady who got it wrong twice, she took our food order, that came quickly but it wasn’t the best, my fish was missing a few chips, ma husbands steak pie needed a jack hammer to cut the pastry but he soldiered on and my child’s burger was overdone round the edges they couldn’t eat it or break their teeth so they left it, it wasnt exactly busy either so we won’t be back again, I’m afraid

Popped in for lunch with family. Covid measures excellent with screens parting tables and each sitting area sanitised with a fancy gadget before next customer. Staff lovely, efficient and polite. Food very enjoyable. Everyone was delighted with their meal which was tasty and fresh. Tuna salad was outstanding with grapes and watermelon on the side. Nice warm scones along with jam and cream included in high tea. Thank you for a lovely meal. Wish I had taken pics as presentation of food was great.

Pedimos del menú de té de la alta ensalada de mayonesa de atún, pescado y patatas fritas, pollo con bon bons haggis. Hoy en día, la comida era excelente, incluso con las nuevas reglas de esta pandemia todavía se sentía acogedor y el servicio era excelente, el menú de almuerzo de 2 platos vale cada centavo, definitivamente recomiendo el pollo. El personal era genial, nos recibieron con prontitud y nos sentamos en nuestra mesa se lo recomendaría a cualquiera en la zona para ir a un gran pequeño lugar de 5 estrellas en general.

The Cronies Bar and Restaurant is just what it says on the tin. Good food at reasonable prices served efficiently in relaxed surroundings. The Bar has an enviable breadth of Whiskies from Macallan, Glenfarclas 105 and Deanston to all the more recognisable labels. A fine place for lunch.

Mi amigo y yo almorzamos hoy en el restaurante Cronies en el Golden Lion Hotel, Stirling y pedí un entrante solo para descubrir cuando llegó que por razones médicas no podía comerlo. La señora muy amable que me sirvió de inmediato me trajo un delicioso plato de reemplazo sin problemas. Nuestras comidas principales estaban bien preparadas y servidas, y todo el almuerzo fue muy agradable. Gracias al excelente personal que nos atendió tan bien. Excelente relación calidad-precio, volveremos.

Monday 14 th Oct 2019 had a very nice meal here and the staff were pleasant and friendly. It is a really old building very tastefully decorated.

Reserved a table for a Thursday evening, staff are friendly and helpful, I had the Smoked Haddock which was excellent and very tasty, we both had the steak and Chips also very good, then we finished with ice cream, lovely restaurant and nice to finish the night with a drink in the adjacent bar.

Only popped in for a drink but had a snack anyway. Friendly efficient service. Gets quite busy over lunch time.

Called in for dinner when in Stirling last week. A very warm welcome from the bar and waiting staff. Excellent food and good value too! A definite recommend on all accounts.

I have never experienced such poor service, anywhere, ever, as I did here. Apparently our waitress was in training and I guess maybe she didn't know she was to wait on our table, still no excuse. We sat down around at 1:30, ten minutes later, she took our menu but not our order. Twenty minutes after sitting down, she stopped by when my friend was not there, I said I'd like a water and coffee and order when my friend returns. Upon my friend returning, she brought her a glass of water (that she apparently asked for at the bar), nothing for me. So I asked again a few minutes later about the water and coffee, she finally brings the water at about 30 minutes after being seated. The coffee, I had to get up and order it from the bar. And it's was not like this girl was running around busy, no, she was mostly standing around, taking drinks to other tables here and there, etc... Why should would not bring me the coffee after asking multiple times, I'd love to know, but probably sheer incompetence.

Normally have a great experience in Cronies bar and restaurant. Went along for a few cocktails after dinner, waited for 10 minutes without being acknowledged at the bar by one member of bar staff. Another member came along and I still waited another 10 mins without being acknowledged. Very disappointed by this as I regularly recommend here for food and drinks. Will probably put me off coming in future, even a bit of eye contact would have been acceptable to say they are aware of my presence.

Attempted to have a late lunch at this establishment on August 21. Our table of 4 sat down and waited for something to take our order. After 10 minutes of waiting and no one acknowledging our presence, I approached an older female wait staff and asked her if someone will take our order or if we should order at the bar. The waitress handed me a menu and literally ‘shooed’ me away with her hands to sit down.

While staying in the Golden Lion, I visited Cronies for afternoon tea, the service was great, and the atmosphere was low key, and quiet. This is not a loud sports pub.

My husband and I stayed at the Golden Lion Hotel for 2 nights to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. We had dinner and breakfast twice and have no complaints whatsoever. Although the restaurant was very busy, service was very good. We had a set menu our first evening which was nice, however we chose the a la cartel menu the second evening. We both chose sirloin steak and it was cooked to perfection. The chips were just like home made & absolutely delicious. I’d have preferred to have a sauce with it such as pepper or Diane, but it was excellent without.

My sisters and l did lunch on 11th May .The food was really good and we couldnt fault it .However the service was a disaster , very young staff and manager who just didnt know what to do .It was a shame as everything else was spot on

Have often passed this restaurant when visiting Stirling but have never tried it.

Visited yesterday to celebrate a friends birthday. Beautifully decorated, staff welcoming. Choice of snack, set lunch or from the a la carte menu. We chose from the a la carte. Both had the same chicken stornoway, delicious! Haven't had mashed potatoes for such a long time and the gravy was very tasty (a bonus for me no cream).Altogether a lovely visit. On leaving I unfortunately knocked over the bottle of water on our table but the staff couldn't have been nicer telling me not to worry about it. I'll be back.

A second visit to Cronies recently. Food again was good but ibdonthinknthe service is lacking somewhat. The staff haven't been trained how to serve a table. Staff shouldn't be stretching over someone to serve someone else at the table and it would have been nice to be served with a smile.

Beautiful Venue. Lovely welcome. Delicious food and best of all my daughter was able to select from a few Vegan options and there was also Vegan Dessert! Relaxing atmosphere. The only down side was that we waited 35 minutes before we asked someone for drinks. The service was very slow considering it was quiet.

Just walk right in, turn left into the bar - quiet and restful for people over 40 - and/or proceed to the small restaurant with a nice menu at reasonable prices, compared to Geneva, anyway: £25 for starter, main & dessert. We had 3 different of everything and kept picking from each other's plates. All really tasty, well prepared, nicely presented.

We visited here for Mothers Day and chose from the High Tea menu, I had steak pie, it was lovely, beef fell apart, not at all chewy, others had macaroni and salad. The scones were okay and the cakes were quite small but overall was definitely enough. The restaurant itself is done around a Rabbie Burns theme and had a lovely warm feeling about it. Definitely worth a visit.

Was in stirling visiting family decided to have lunch here as not been for a while was not disappointed. Service was great and so was the food also very reasonably price will definitely be back.

Booked this special meal via email. We were celebrating my husbands birthday. The decor of the restaurant is lovely, Scottish themed obviously.

From the moment we walked in we felt comfortable. Water straight to the table without being asked. The meals are well cooked and presented as well as being great value. Definitely will be back.

Popped on Saturday night for a drink, good selection and service was very good. Good ambience to sit and chat and enjoy your evening.

So ages ago I was in Stirling and I am in a wheelchair and I noticed Cronies had a ramp up to it so I said to my friend and we went in. Cronies has a lift to get into the restaurant or bar . It does take a while for them to help you but when they do it is great. Even when the lift breaks they will take you round through the hotel to the bar/restaurant. The food and drinks are exquistite .

We stayed at the Golden Lion and although our hotel room was average, Cronies was awesome! The staff were brilliant, drinks reasonably priced and the food tasty. We really enjoyed Cronies and went back even when we later stayed at another hotel.

My husband and I had dinner at Cronies one Friday evening and were impressed by the quality of the food. We had the bread basket to share as a started followed by fish and chips and the chicken and haggis. Portion sizes were great, the food quality was excellent and the staff were very friendly and polite. They have lots of drinks options, I tried the Stirling Sling cocktail which was also very tasty. Our meal came to around £39 in total. Would recommend if looking for some yummy Scottish food.

We stayed in the hotel and had dinner in the evening. All the meals were good apart from the chips which although were proper hand cut chips were slightly uncooked and hard in the middle, one of the fish served was slightly greasy other than that it was nice meals all round. The breakfast in the morning was excellent with a large selection of food and drinks, self service. On both accounts the servers were excellent, they were polite, prompt and well presented. We would eat here again.

Meeting friends for dinner and we were recommended this place. Once we were seated, without menus, we were asked by 3 different waiters what we would like to order. Once we ordered our food and drink, the food came quite quickly. I got the chicken and haggis and one friend got steak pie which was really nice. Unfortunately my other 2 friends were served raw food. Fish and chips- chips were raw and the other got salmon..more like sushi. We tried to ask for assistance but no one came to us so we didn’t end up saying to the staff, just left a lot of food on the plates! Really disappointed as I had heard such good things!

Stopped in after touring the castle. Both of us had sandwiches and shared fries. Service was friendly and fast. Food was good, but not something either of us would order again. I had ham sandwich with gluten free toasted bread, hubby had fig and cheese sandwich also came with salad and coleslaw. It was alright, but not brag worthy. The berry cider was delicious.

Been in as a couple, family and also taken visitors on business trips so it's a great all rounds.
