Cromwell Takeaway in Cambridge

After having chicken chow mien and sweet and sour chicken balls on Thursday evening I will not be ordering from here again I ended up being very ill which turned out to be good poisoning.

Great takeaway, delivered on time. The beef curry was really tasty and a good sized portion. Husband had noodle box A in hot sauce, really tasty but not that spicy. The chicken balls were very filling and the hot honey sauce was lovely.

I live a 2 minute walk from another well known Chinese takeaway on Cherry Hinton Road that I won’t name…rhymes with Fido Mouse 😂, we wait for delivery from Cromwell’s. Favourite Chinese takeaway in Cambridge, delicious, well priced, food tastes freshly made to order and delivery came fast. Won’t go anywhere else now, 10/10

After making an order on just eat with correct postcode, driver called me saying he was at a travelodge which there where none with the same postcode. I ordered and paid for 2 cokes and only got 1. The driver blamed me for not saying it was holiday inn express at the postcode but as I came from work to this postcode all there is a holiday inn express and businesses round it. I wrote in a personal message to call me as I was staying in the hotel and if any issues. After ringing a few times still didn't manage to get here somehow but it was the customers fault. By the time it did box was soggy, curry sauce watery and everything rubbery plus they miss out my spring rolls. Wouldn't order again from here. And even after him calling asking me this and that or trying to correct him he just rudely hung up the phone. I mean I paid for food and drinks which I received one of and you expect customer service but no! . 23 odd quid I spent for a pile of garbage, a driver that couldn't correct his mistake after multiple calls and rude delivery. I would love to know if the table was turned and this was the service and mistakes that they paid for would they find it acceptable!!!! I don't think so! I mean how hard is it to make a customers order, and I know as I used to be a food critic and in the food industry!

My 1st order & not my last only ordered from you as my regular takeaway was closed. food was **** star would have been a 5* but pancake rolls to small

I am a regular at this restaurant and unfortunately recently the level of service has seriously been lacking. I have had multiple late deliveries and today my delivery came 2 hours late, I had pre ordered before they were even open. I called and asked for a refund and they refused to carry out this request. My 6 year old daughter was extremely hungry which I explained to them so I insisted on getting my money back so I could get her food from else where yet they refused. When the food did finally arrive, I realised the chips were stone cold and the wrong rice had been delivered. I called them again and the owner tried to say that the egg fried rice they delivered was better than the boiled rice we had ordered, yet we specifically did not want egg in the rice hence us ordering boiled rice. After a back and forth, they offered to refund the money for the rice only. Terrible level of customer service especially to a customer who has been very loyal to them for a number of years now. Unfortunately, we will no longer be going here.

Standard Chinese takeaway, good selection of vegetarian dishes. Noodles were good, but the fried prawns and the fried tofu was a bit too dry. Fast service and easy to order online.

Don't take card - salt and pepper chips could have been seasoned better

I ordered the food it came on time but made me and my friend sick so I called the restaurant and they said it couldn't be there food as they'd sold 10 portions of what I ordered from them and hadn't had any complaints yet and then called me rude for questioning them and hung up on me I definitely don't recommend ever going here due to the poor customer service the spicy foods more sweet and sour than anything and the chicken is either undercooked or gone off.

We ordered the chinese takeaway from time to time with special request on reducing salt and oil. The takeaway is big portion, good value for money and tasty for that price. It always comes with a free big bag of prawn crackers. The food is always delivered on time. The shop owner is so friendly and kind.

Had a problem with our order which they sorted out really quickly and professionally. By far the best Chinese in Cambridge. Highly recommend

food came late and was cold when it got delivered

Ordered a 2nd time to give another chance after acceptable first time. Crispy battered prawns, burnt. Prawn toast, burnt. Spare ribs, burnt Chicken satay, tough. Spring rolls, burnt Sweet and sour pork balls burnt Stir fry mushrooms worryingly oily with a nice translucent layer sitting on the surface of the sauce. Crispy seaweed, stale and I dont know what they topped it with but it was strangely sickly sweet and reminiscent of some kind of cake. I'd never order from here again what a waste of money.

The ambience may leave a lot to be desired, but the food is always served promptly, generously portioned, reasonably priced and delicious. Recommended!

I recently ordered (04/07/23) it used to be prety good but the food has gone very down hill suddenly. Under cooked, burnt and vinegar-like sweet and sour source all in the same order. Hopefully they fix this because they were pretty good a few months ago, now I'm probably going to order elsewhere because I just don't know what I'll get.

Has got to be the worst portion of Sweet and sour chicken hong Kong style I have ever got, about 8 pieces in total, maybe its just this place but other places fill the tub and barwly any source inside. Really disappointed.

Ordered hot and sour soup, which was pretty good. However the Kung Pao chicken was sweet, and not spicy like how it’s supposed to be. Portion was on the smaller side, considering it was mains. More like starter portions. Friendly staff, prompt service, accept cash only on collection. Would order again and try something different.

We’ve just ordered from the Cromwell Chinese for the first time and it was fab! We ate as a family of five and everyone loved their food, highly recommend.

The Cromwell is a good takeaway, staff are polite and friendly, I ordered salt and pepper chicken, sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style and an egg fried rice, all dishes were cooked very well, tasted great and the portion sizes were above average. Prices are good, very similar to those of the other Chinese takeaways I've used in Cambridge.

Spent close to £90 pound in this little on my first visit to this Establishment would highly recommend anyone to go Here awesome food. Will definitely be ordering again 100%

Thai Dishes Terrible and when complained would not offer refund for their dishes even they were worst I have ever had :-( Will not order again after many many orders due to their attitude.

Ordered through just eat on 26/08/22 and delivered by the restaurant much earlier than stated on Just eat, which was great as we were both starving. I have to say the quality of the food was amazing. I had salt and pepper squid to start which I thought was a bit pricey at £7.60 but the size of the portion more than made up for it. It was well cooked and very tasty with nice onions and chillies. I also had the Lamb in Szechuan Sauce, this was advertised as being spicy (hot) and it didn't disappoint at all. Again incredibly tasty with tender lamb and a deliciously spicy sauce that had my tongue tingling. The egg fried rice was light, fluffy and not greasy and heavy as some takeaways can be. My wife ordered the sweet and sour chicken balls, Chicken fried rice and a portion of curry sauce. I tried all of these the following day and none of the dishes disappointed. The chicken balls were very good with a nice chunk of chicken and importantly not too much batter and a nice thick sweet and sour sauce to go with it. Some other places will overdo the batter so much that you need a microscope to find the tiny piece of chicken hiding inside, no worries about that here. The curry sauce was tasty enough and the chicken fried rice was again very good quality with a decent amount of chicken. The portion sizes were big enough that we both had enough for a good lunch the following day. Next time I'll go visit the restaurant to collect (I never realised it was so close) and save the £2.50 delivery fee. When I next fancy a Chinese takeaway this will most definitely be my go to place. At £35.90 for a more than substantial dinner and enough left over for lunch the following day I've no complaints on the price at all. I've pasted the order with prices (correct as of 26/08/22) below. When ordering via one of the delivery service providers we had a positive experience (both food and delivery times). However, when ordering direct both the length of time from placing our order to arrival was unacceptable and the food was really badly prepared and much of it hit the bin as was inedible (raw onion and pepper) and a sweet & sour like vinegar! Sadly because of this experience will be taking custom elsewhere. Photos were an after thought but would not have proved my comments in any case.

Awful food. Used to be good but would not touch there food again. Bbq ribs are extremely dry and have very little meat on them, sauce was terrible too. Sweet and sour king prawn was a mixture of overcooked prawns and undercooked batter Salt and pepper squid was the worst. Was luke chewing leather. Avoid this place

Ordered my Chinese through just eat…..amazing food! Great portion sizes and very tasty. I had 1/4 duck pancakes which was cooked to perfection. Pork chow mein 👍. The battered pineapple were a bit moist for my liking. Would order again without a doubt. Thankyou.

The food we ordered was delicious. The lady who delivered the food read the delivery instructions and her customer service was brilliant. Will definitely be ordering again.

Spent 50.00 here last night... Bbq ribs were extremely salty. And both chicken and lamb satay were way too spicy and supposed to have a peanut satay sauce but didn't. Most dishes were packed with vegetables and hardly any meat.. And the meat that was there was boiled with no taste. Quite dissapointed.

Took a risk and chose this place for the first time through Just Eat and so pleased we picked it! The food arrived perfectly; great portion sizes, nice and hot and delivered at the right time. The chicken satay skewers were really tasty and our two chow meins (house special and roast pork) were delicious! We really enjoyed the food and will definitely be ordering from here again soon!

Wonderful. Coconut rice is always delivered as egg fried rice...but no problem. Absolutely delicious.

This is supposed to be a king prawn chow mein..., and they're too busy to send or even sort out my complain. What a joke

1st time going here was well worth it 4 the cost of our meal the quick service & quality of the food never mind the amount u get in the containers I'm a big eater but I had 2 push myself 2 finish it all so I've found my new local Chinese now rather than were I used 2 go over the Arbury. 5 mins from home so food still piping hot once I'd walked home with it the only down side the misses said there wasnt any prawn crackers even tho the menu say free with order over £15 but I'm not going 2 worry bout that so yes I'd happily advise people 2 go here

Order came over an hour late and was far too spicy for your average UK Thai green curry. As was the pad Thai.

Simply the best Chinese takeaway that we've found in Cambridge and we've tried a lot, believe me! Fantastic flavour, not greasy, huge portions :-)

We order from here embarrassingly regularly as the food is so good and flavourful. Always arrives quickly and is piping hot. It did go through a phase of being not great but definitely has improved again recently.

The meal was far too sweet, the ingredients tasted and looked old, and were certainly not fresh. It is very poor quality food and absolutely do not recommend...avoid unless you have money to waste. Very disappointed.

Plenty of food but Bland, chewy meat, & Cold ( had delivery) first time & last time of using!

Ordered savaloy and spicy potatoes. Both of which weren't fully cooked. The savaloy was cold in the middle and warm on the outside. The potatoes were solid!

I really like this place. Since they opened we've had over 15 family sized takeaways. Food is tasty and very reasonably priced. The owners are trying really hard and their daughter who usually serves at the weekend is charming and very polite and friendly when taking the order over the phone. It usually only takes around 15 minutes to prepare our large order even at busy times. We always get free extra prawn crackers, free large bottle of coke and free spring rolls thrown in with our family sized order. We've enjoyed other Cambridge Chinese takeaways over the years but they have either closed or got expensive or are not so convenient so very happy to have Cromwell Takeaway nearby. I haven't tried fish and chips, but the owners do know how to cook a Chinese takeaway. I hope they succeed, it takes time to build up customers.

A typical Chinese takeaway of the peripherals. Super cheap, the taste of the food is not bad but a bit grease. Large variety of menu and quite fast service. The place is clean and new, and the cashier speaks English.
