Crete Greek Taverna in Sefton

It was v bad me and the wife went . My meat balls starter I thought was shop bought the sauce was lacking flavour .Wife butter beans was v good . I had pork it was that terrible I was v hungry I eat some about a quarter. Sent the rest back .There was no sauce it said it came in a sauce . Wife meat balls were shop bought no sauce . We also had oven chips . And the rice was nice . We complained we got £4 off the bill . The drink were v reasonable. The meal was terrible. We went to an Indian the next day we paid the same price it was fantastic for the same price . We complained to the waitress and she said I just work here . U been warned wasted £30 they did not care .i never go again . U live and learn . The wife went two years she said it was excellent. We’re look forward to a good meal it didn’t appear .

We walked past this place by chance last week and it was full. Slightly off the beaten path so we thought we’d give it a try. The service was excellent as was the food. Very reasonable prices too. Highly recommended.

Food was basic, wasn’t the nicest as I’ve been to a lot of Greeks. Mum had lamb and I had chicken in mushroom sauce. Food was bland, chips hard, sauce was orange and did not taste like creamy mushroom. Salad dry and tasteless. Ate half of the food before I found a black short eyelash/dog hair type in it. Would not go back or recommend.

I'm undecided about this restaurant as I think we would have had a much more enjoyable meal if we hadn't all had the mezedes. It was dip and pitta heavy, with only one meatball each and small amounts of everything else. Yes, the dips fill you up but we didn't really get to sample a good selection of other Greek foods. The whitebait was really strong tasting and quite unpleasant but the king prawns were amazing. The restaurant was a bit cold (which is a pet hate of mine) and there were still ridiculous covid 19 signs stuck in place. I've given it 4 stars as I'm sure we would have enjoyed starters and main courses more.

Really enjoyed my meal here, food was good quality, salads were fresh, meat was nicely seasoned and cooked. Staff were friendly and helpful.

What a great experience! Couldn't fault a thing, a nice location off the beaten track (only a couple of minutes), delicious authentic Greek cuisine. We went for the mezzo for 2...amazingly good and exposure to most of the menu...truly magnificent. Could not fault the ingredients, preparation, service, atmosphere...everything was first rate. I wished I lived locally... and all at a very reasonable price too. No wonder this place has been here so long.

A fabulous meal at Crete Greek Taverna. We had the Mezedes, so much delicious food beginning with tasty dips, pittas, Greek salad. Then dolmades, meat balls, Greek sausages, fried cheese, fish dishes, then chicken kebabs and pork afelia. A feast to behold!

We visited the restaurant with friends and from start to finish it was a brilliant experience. We had the mezze which was delicious with lots of different courses and value for money. The service was excellent and we were made to feel special. We will definitely be returning.

Found this hidden gem by accident. Decided to give it a try. What am amazing experience! A beautiful restaurant, excellent food, fantastic staff. We were on a spontaneous child free night out, and visiting this restaurant made our night. Great atmosphere, the chef and all staff were amazing. I have a severe nut allergy and they were amazing at catering for this. The food was delicious! Starters and mains could not fault any of it. Highly recommended, and an ouzo to finish!

Stumbled upon this by accident and we weren’t disappointed. We love Greek food and this was comparable to some of the food we have had whilst exploring Greece. I had the meatballs as a starter and my partner had the stuffed vine leaves. Followed by two main courses and a bottle of wine. Excellent value for money The restaurant is family run and it shows. Excellent friendly service. The decor was excellent. Loved it :-) next time we’re in Southport we will be back

Freshly cooked hot food, real chips, always a winner. Attentive smiley staff, we tipped, I will only tip if all staff from front of house waiters/waitress to pot washer & the chef who has cooked my food are deserving of a tip. Starters: Creamy garlic mushrooms & tahini with pitta bread & feta cheese salad, all very tasty, lovely flavours. We shared the starters, well I ate all the feta salad the tomatoes where the best I had tasted in a long time. Mains: I had Moussaka, really tasty & cleared my plate. My brother had lamb shank the lamb fell of the bone, fresh not frozen veg another clean plate. Try this little Gem you won't regret it.

Have had many many Greek meals but this one is poor. Both main meals were very bland and one burnt. Restaurant was empty on a Friday night so may explain it. Certainly not a cosy, warm atmosphere and staff seemed to serve and then run away. Didn’t ask how our meals were.

Omg, Crete is the gem of southport!Such warm welcomes in a family environment, amazing food, gigantic portions( I felt bad because I barely touched my main) and super customer service.This is such a warm and welcoming restaurant. As a private chef I don't eat put much, but I guarantee, this is my fave restaurant in the North West.All social distancing measures covered, sanitizers on tables. Cannot fault it at all. My new go to restaurant from now on.An absolute asset to Southport.

First visit but I'm hooked! Had the mezè at £20 a head it was incredible value and very authentic. 4 courses of delicious food. Fab Greek wine too. Drinks reasonably priced and the staff were really helpful and friendly and they have the social distancing measures just right. Lovely ambiance inside too. A jewel in the crown for Southport diners for sure. Met the owner who was most charming too as well as a wonderful cook! Can't wait to return! Thank you!

A lovely find in Southport.The Covid rules were being followed and the staff wore masks.The food is gorgeous and we had the early bird special.I had the marinated beetroot as a starter and will attempt to make it at home as the lady explained how it is made.The hummus was mouthwatering as were our main couses.At £11.95 it was a bargain.

This is a lovely, atmospheric restaurant tucked away in a side street in Southport. They have adapted well to the new COVID rules and, from the minute we arrived, to the moment we left (well fed and satisfied), we felt safe, welcome, and we thoroughly enjoyed our first visit. The food was plentiful, fresh, authentically Greek and delicious. I loved the varied menu, leaving plenty of different choices for next time. We'll be back.

This is a hidden gem. The food is fresh and absolutely delicious, and the service is relaxed, friendly and efficient. We had lamb and pork for main courses, and birth were tasty and cooked to perfection. Greek coffee and baklava made for a wonderful finish. If you're a caffeine demon and you haven't tried Greek coffee, you're in for a treat. Decor is low key and refreshing. Very highly recommended.

Booked a table here (somewhat nervously) as a first outing after lockdown.We weren't sure what to expect, but WOW we are SO glad that we ventured outside and visited Crete Greek Taverna.Amazing, friendly staff who were informed about the menu, attentive but not overly so and a pleasure to talk to. Tables were a good distance apart, hand gel on the tables too and staff wearing masks, practicing social distancing. So, it felt very safe.The food was absolutely out of this world! An varied menu with generous portions and absolutely delicious! We had 3 courses and every dish was just perfect.I will definitely visit here again on my next visit to Southport. Thank you for making us so welcome despite the current challenges.

We went in on a Friday night on a wet February night. The place was full and we were lucky to get the last table which says a lot about the place. The menu is pretty varied and looks worth coming back to. We chose the meat mere to share and really enjoyed it. The chorizo was delicious. The atmosphere was loud and buzzy and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Revisited after an unintentionally long break.Had the banquet - fantastic - lots of different tasty dishes which left us absolutely full! With drinks it was just £50 which is about what you’ll pay for two at your average Indian . Really helpful staff - well worth a visit to this hidden gem in Southport .

Went on Saturday 15th. Loved it. Smiley friendly host and delicious food. A proper taste of Greece.We were in a bit of a rush but the host made sure everything was done to fit out time scale with no issue. This meant we could still relax and enjoy our meal without worrying about time. One of our group is a wheelchair user, access was great with ramp and doors that were wide enough. The restaurant was nicely spaced so he had no accessibility issues at all.We are so looking forward to a return visit for some more fresh, wholesome Greek food.

First time visit.Clean,bright airy establishment decorated in the Greek flag blue and white colours with plenty of sunny pictures!We had the very good value early bird deal.I had sardines followed by mixed souvlaki my partner had humous with pitta with a chicken souvlaki.The food was plentifull and fresh.The house white wine served in a carafe was a nice touch reminding us of holidays in Greece.The service was friendly but far from intrusive and we definitely were not hurried as we lingered over the wine.It was definitely a very pleasant experience which we will definitely hope to repeat next time in Southport.

In Southport for a couple of days. This restaurant was suggested a place to visit. And what a good choice it was. Although quiet being out of season the staff were attentive and welcoming. The food is excellent, modestly priced and good value. Would certainly recommend it if you are up this way
