Arrived in May for a gifted aftrenoon tea which had been booked since December and found the hotel and restuarmt closed for rework. No phone call prior to these works to let us know there would be no booking. Wasted days holiday and wasted funds spent on journey there plus having to find else where to eat. Have contactd direct, got a couple of emails backk and now has gone quiet with no resolution. Awful customer service and disspointing communuction. Would not recommend

Booked a champagne afternoon tea for my friends birthday and was very disappointed by our experience. Nowhere near 5 star, rude uninterested staff poor quality sandwiches all pre made. Nothing about the experience memorable would advise not to book even on a voucher/discount offer.

We had a voucher for afternoon tea for two at the Montcalm. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the Crescent Restaurant was rather dated but I believe is about to close for refurbishment. Our sandwiches were freshly made and had interesting fillings. The scones were especially delicious; they can be tricky to get right. The patisserie were good too although some were a little bland. The waiter and waitress who served us were lovely and we had a pot of tea and a good coffee. Our visit was marred by a disgruntled customer who was being very impolite to the staff for quite a while, complaining that there were no vegan options in the afternoon tea, which was no surprise to us as they don’t advertise that they offer one! The waitress being harassed dealt with the customer impressively well, never failing to be polite. She was a credit to the hotel.

Me and my mum were in London to watch a show and decided to book afternoon tea here. The pictures on the website looked lovely and we thought we were in for a treat. The sandwiches were poor, we said we didn’t eat fish so in replacement received humus and rocket. All except ham arrived on brown bread. The bread was mediocre to say the least. The fillings were very poor and tbh a disappointment. We moved onto the scones. There were not very big but they were warm, soft on the inside and crisp on the outside which was pleasant. The jam was very cheap tasting and the clotted cream was ok. We were really looking forward to the cake selection. They were a total let down. Barely edible and you could tell they were defrosted. They were honestly no better than the dessert platter from Iceland. They were completely tasteless. The tea was ok there wasn’t a very big choice I also noticed on the website it stated selection of luxury tea leaves. It was just a twinnings teabag. Nothing luxury about it at all. In fact earlier that day we had a cup of tea in the gift shop opposite the sky gardens waiting for our time to be allowed entry and the cup of tea we had there was far more luxurious and tasted delicious. All in all the afternoon tea was a let down. Me and my mum certainly won’t go again or recommend. The reason I gave 2 stars instead of just 1 was because the Elemis hand wash and lotion in the ladies toilets smelt lovely and left my hands feeling beautifully soft and the scones were nice. For a 5 star hotel I would have expected far more from their afternoon tea!

Was given a voucher as a birthday present for afternoon tea with unlimited Prosecco here. Having read the reviews was really worried about going. However, I was completely surprised and it was not at all as described by others. The lounge is a cosy area off the main reception. We were seated quickly and within 5 minutes our tea order was taken and we were asked dietary requirements. A bottle of Prosecco was also opened and left on the table in a cooler. The food took about 10 minutes to come out - which was fine. The sandwiches were fresh with a nice selection of fillings. Two lovely warm scones with jam and clotted cream and 6 small cakes on top of that. Neither of us could eat it all. It was really lovely. When we wanted our Prosecco topping up, we just signalled to the waiter and we were promptly bought another bottle. I have read the comments about the staff - but our experience was that they were friendly and helpful. We had a waiter called Alex attend to us and he was so lovely and attentive. He could not do enough for us. There were some waitresses too who regularly checked we were ok. I for one would go back here.

Went to the Montcalm hotel in Marble Arch for afternoon tea, what a let down! We go to many places for afternoon tea and this is by far the worse we have ever had. The staff are not tentative at all, they do not refill anything and they do not ask how everything is. The fruit tea was just a cranberry & raspberry bag, could have that at home really. The sandwiches lacked filling, we had to open them to see what actually was in them. The plain scones were very dry and my jaw was hurting by the end of eating them, the jam seemed to of come out of a store bought jar and didn’t have another choice either. The fresh cream slice was awful, you could bend the pastry and the fresh cream did not taste of fresh cream, the mousse was warm (still do not know what flavour it was), the chocolate cake/ brownie was really dry too, the cheesecake did not taste anything like a cheesecake and the choux on the profiterole was so thin it was over powdered by the chocolate filling and the thick chocolate coating. I would definitely not recommend!

We had a lunch with prosecco and were seated in Hankies restaurant as the Crescent was very busy and noisy. We were escorted by the manager (Anna, very charming) and then beautifully looked after by our waitress Elena. Between the four of us we ordered the soup, Greek salad and chicken skewers, all were delicious and we were very happy with the starters. This was followed by the chicken supreme, lamb and aubergine steak and again the food did not disappoint. A little more vegetables and potato would not go amiss however the meal was still very enjoyable. The ambience and decor of Hankies (Indian) was very tasteful, Elena’s service was excellent, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would certainly return to this establishment. Thank you to all the team involved in making our visit such a pleasant one.

Just to make this completely clear I am reviewing the restaurant (?) rather than accommodation at this hotel. My wife and I were given an Afternoon Tea experience that for us was free, we still felt we had been overcharged! Upon arrival it was hard to see that the hotel even knew it was Christmas as there were no decorations on the outside of the building. Whilst there were a few in the foyer once we entered the Restaurant (?) there was NOT A SINGLE DECORATION IN HERE. This room had all the warmth and atmosphere of a school canteen, and not a very good school at that. The afternoon tea was at best mediocre and when we did ask for an extra plate of sandwiches we were charged £10 for this. Given that the full tea was only £40 this seemed a little excessive. The manager pointed out that the tea was usually £80 and that we had been given a 50% reduction, this I found hard to believe. I am quite sure this room suits those staying here for their breakfasts and we can clearly see this is set up for this. If that is the case then do not advertise Afternoon Teas like you know what is involved. Stick to giving buffet breakfasts to your clients and leave the proper food to other more discerning establishments. Ironically we had a delightful brunch in Mayfair earlier in the day and both wished we had gone back there. The stars given were purely for the staff.

A very busy restaurant with most people having the cream tea; however we had the two course lunch. There was a choice of starters, mains and deserts on a set menu; we went for chicken skewers to start and then chicken/salmon for main. The food took a long time to come, but when it did it was very tasty. Personally I would have liked more mash with my salmon, but we both really enjoyed our meals. Staff were lovely and made us feel very welcome.

When we arrived we walked through the hotel reception which is absolutely gorgeous and full of smiling staff, so we had high hopes for where we were going to be eating. I wish we hadn't gotten our hopes up, the restaurant is a weird little back room which is more like an run down canteen. The floor is quite grubby, the sky lights are in need of serious cleaning and there is just random champagne flutes everywhere. The big ice well/drawers in the middle have drawers which are visibly broken with drawer handles hanging off. We were told to pick any seat we like instead of actually being taken to a table, but were served quite promptly once seated. Once our afternoon tea came out it had no scones on it so we had to ask for those. The clotted cream looked cheap as did the jam. The waitor then gave us the wrong info for the sandwiches so it was trial and error with what we were eating with some of them. However the sandwiches were very tasty. Scones warm when they came out which we liked but they looked like the ones you get in tesco? I know someone else has reviewed that they look like aldi leftovers. They definitely give off shop brought vibes. The good part was the cakes. Absolutely delicious. Hopefully they were homemade. All in all, will not return and a little sad I wasted my money on the vouchers as it was a birthday gift for my mum. I work in a hotel, and its a hotel with its own afternoon tea area too so I am sympathetic with some of the problems but it's not that hard to get right or make it a memorable experience for your guests.

We arrived on time for our 2 course lunch at 1pm with A glass of Prosecco and were shown promptly to a small table that seemed a little bit crammed in. There appeared to be a lot of people on afternoon tea deals but only a couple having lunch. The lunch menu was very limited and even then we were told that some of the shown items were unavailable. We ordered our food and a drink was promptly filled and brought to the table. It was then a 40 minute wait for the starters to arrive - slightly surprising as Greek salad does not need cooking. There had been no pre-warning from the waiters that there would be a delay. During the wait there were no ‘sorry for the delay’ or acknowledgement that the wait was unacceptable. The quality of starter was good but not a large quantity. When I asked the waiter what the side plates were for he said bread rolls. When asked where ours were he said they only came with soup starter! Then there was a similarly long wait for the main course (1 steak / 1 salmon) again no pre-warning and we had to ask for our water glasses to be refilled as the waiting staff seemed to be avoiding us. We complained about the delay and lack of service - definitely not 5 star. Whilst the food was ok the experience was very disappointing. We will not be back.

My wife and I visited this establishment for a belated sixtieth birthday treat, Covid-19 having caused several postponements. If it’s your intention to treat a loved one or indeed yourselves, then this isn’t the venue for afternoon tea. The positives - a great location, very pleasant staff and a nice clean environment. The negatives - The food was at best mediocre. The sandwiches contained hardly any filling and the cake’s and scones were of the poorest quality. On the day of our visit the restaurant was very busy, serving many afternoon teas, they’re truly awful, you have been warned.

Afternoon Rip off Had a gift voucher for Afternoon Tea. I can honestly say this was the worst Afternoon Tea.we have ever had. We have been to this hotel on 2 previous occasions and had their Tea. These occaisions were very good. The sandwiches had fillings and not the prairy sandwiches (2 slices of bread an wide open spaces) we received this time. The scones looked like aldi rejects and cakes had seen better days. Only decent thing was the Tea. I saw lots of other guest given funny looks when the tray was put on their table and I overheard some Americans leaving saying they "didn't think much of an English Afternoon tea" we agreed with them. Had a voucher for a 2 course lunch with Prosecco and as the restaurant is in a 5 star hotel expected it to be quite smart. The hotel is very smart but the restaurant is not. The tables are very close together and with the noise, it felt like having lunch in a department store's restaurant. It was packed and we had to wait out in reception for 10 minutes as our table wasn't ready, whilst staff were rushing all over the place looking very harrassed. We chose a corner round table as didn't look quite as squashed as other tables for 2. The menu is quite basic (4 choices for each course) but adequate - we asked our waitress what the soup was and she had no idea (strange considering how small the menu is!). She came back later and had forgotten to ask then listed a few soups that it would be one of. She then went off to the kitchen to ask and it turned out to be something completely different! The prosecco arrived quite quickly and was very nice, but we were surprised that at no point during our meal did anyone offer us another drink (seems like a wasted opportunity for them as we may well have bought some wine). Our starters took about 30 minutes to arrive, we had chicken skewers which were okay, nothing special. We had ordered steak for mains. I had ordered medium, but struggled to find any pink meat in mine, though was tasty overall. Most customers seemed to be having afternoon tea, which is fairly straightforward as is all preprepared, however the staff seemed to be running around and not coping at all well. You only get 90 minutes at your table and we heard 2 tables being given a 10 minute warning that they needed to leave soon, not what you'd expect at a 5 star place! It seemed that whoever had made the bookings had squeezed far more people in than the staff could cope with. All in all, a bit disappointing and I'm glad it didn't cost us anything!

We had a fabulous dinner here at the end of our New Years stay in London. Absolutely beautiful hand crafted dishes, so tasteful and delicious. Very peaceful and quiet, and beautifully decorated with the Christmas theme. The front of Staff Brian and eagel, and also waitress Nicole were all outstanding and attended to everything perfectly without hesitation. Excellent value and not overpriced considering the quality of food and service we received. We arrived very early for dinner and many people were still relaxing and eating lovely sandwiches, cakes, and champagne with the special offer deals available. I will definitely be visiting here again, and can undoubtably see why this restaurant has a certificate of excellence from Trip advisor.

Purchased & booked a deal voucher for afternoon tea for two, which always makes me wonder whether it will be reflected in the experience we receive. I was worried when we turned up & there was a slight issue with the booking not being found - especially when I had requested special dietary requirements over the phone when booking, but they were extremely accommodating and couldn't do enough to meet the request (even when they had no forewarning due to the booking missing). The food was fantastic, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the general environment was very open and welcoming. Would definitely recommend afternoon tea here.

Stopped at this hotel restaurant for dinner on a Saturday evening...the place was extremely quiet with only one other couple dining. The food was basic (tempura prawns, sirloin steak), and whilst being well cooked was ultimately non-memorable.

A friend and I stopped by for a light lunch. We chose steak with garlic mash, french beans, and horseradish sauce, and it was absolutely delicious. The steak was really tasty, so were the accompanying items, and the portion size was just right – big enough to be satisfying but not too big to generate either waste or sense of being rather overfull. The restaurant had a lovely light airy atmosphere, and the staff were friendly prompt, and professional, as appropriate for a lunchtime setting. It looks like it'll be a great place in the evening too and it is in a lovely location.

Went for high tea. Fairly quiet. The high tea comes with a selection of sweets, sandwiches, and of course scones (two types - one plain; and one with sultanas). Found the cakes and sweets quite sweet - if you have a sweet tooth, it's okay. Scones were okay, not outstanding. Not crumbly enough. Sandwiches: five different types of sandwiches. Bread was a bit dry. Nonetheless, the place had a good selection of tea.

Definitely not a 5 star eating establishment. The Resurant was drab, and the table was missing a fork and one spoon. The menu was the same with nothing that sounded vaguely luxurious or imaginative. We ordered a bottle of white wine and it turned up warmer then room temperature. The waitress did replace it uncomplainingly. The food was well seasoned but it was still less apetising or interesting then any meal we have had in 3 star establishments. We were served by at least three different waiting staff. We were given this dining experience by family for christmas and would have been disapointed if we would have had to pay for it. We paid £26 for a very unremarkable bottle of wine. The meal was not worth the money we paid for the wine. I would never go back.

Went for an afternoon tea with champagne here middle of December. First of all... Decor, 7/10.... Service 6/10..... Staffs 5.5/10........ Food 5/10...... Tea 6/10. Sandwiches was ok, bread is tad dry. Cakes was good. Tea was bit bland than expected. Staffs was half asleep - down to their slow service and communication level wasn't up to standard I expected. Only a couple of them that was providing good service. The most disappointing thing about this, was that we all got food poisoned! The toilet was our best friend for the night. Had a 13month old with us too and she had some of the bread, imagine if it was much more serious than it was(!!) ..... It was concluded it couldve been the salmon sandwich and the cucumber/egg sandwich that caused the toilet runs. All in all... Not coming back.

Now would it not have been for a misplaced birthday present of a 'Lastminute.com' voucher for a lunch for two, then I would not have visited this venue. The restaurant sits at the back of the entrance to the hotel and after passing through the reception you come to, what can only be described, as a 3 star hotel breakfast room. The tables and chairs are cheap and the slightly off-centre piece inhibits the room and makes it feel dark and without a sense of purpose. The staff were genial but it was a very quiet service on a cold December Sunday afternoon. The harpist was excellent but rather misplaced in the venue as I felt as though I should have been clapping at the end of each piece or at least filling his pockets with random bits of silver. The food was a rather paltry affair and it is with little wonder that there are no menus on their website. I opted for battered Prawns and Chilli sauce, which wasn't a bad effort but the batter was dripping in grease and the Chilli sauce was most obviously from a bottle. The Prawns were thick and juicy, so points there. Mrs N had Patatas bravas with chorizo, which again was dripping with oil and grease. Mrs N remarked that the chorizo had been flash fried at the temperature of the sun, which had resulted in charcoal on the outside and raw in the centre.....Not a great start. For mains we opted for the Steak and Chips, I went for Blue and Mrs N went for medium. To be fair, they cooked the steaks beautifully and se massive prizes for that, as it is difficult to find a good steak chef. Now for the disappointment, the meat was quite obviously as cheap as they come, they were the kind of steaks that you can find at any cheap restaurant up and down the country. It was grey, placid and completely unenjoyable and I would have been much better off sticking a piece of cardboard in my mouth for taste. A real shame as the chef needs better ingredients to play with as he can certainly cook a steak. The chips were a par under a Mccains effort and not worth writing home about. A massive blow as most decent restaurants recognise the importance of a good chip, triple cooked in dripping etc...The desserts were a complete let down and we did not even finish more than a third of them.I went for the Creme Brûlée, which was like a snowball inside and had the sugar on top had not been warmed to such an extent as to produce any form of crack. The biscuits provided were economy packet quality. Mrs N had sticky toffee pudding, which was terrible as the sponge was bath sponge like and the toffee had been taken over and burnt, which provided a truly resounding bitter taste.I would recommend that the Montcalm turn this area into a private room for canapés, DJ and functions or even into a Champagne bar with small bites for the incoming tourists. It is a complete waste of space as it is and it misrepresents the restaurant scene that is currently thriving in London and a waste of money for relatives purchasing well intentioned gifts.

Took my parents here for afternoon tea as a Xmas gift. Greeted and shown to the table and offered champagne by Lukas the manager. Once at the table another waiter took over called Julian. He was very impersonal me and bordering on a bit rude. We carried on with our tea and enjoyed the food etc but like someone said previously it felt like they sort of forgot about you. The introduction to what was on the cake platter was minimal and very rushed. At the end when I asked to pay the waiter left me waiting for over 15 mins when it was quite apparent I wanted to pay. In the end I walked over to the till and asked to pay, the waiter never asked if we'd enjoys the tea or nothing just showed me the chip and pin. Not quite the service expectation of a 5 star hotel. Myself and partner have done my afternoon teas as we live in London and I would probably say that 140 park lane which was cheaper outshone this place by a mile. Overall good food, below average service.

Overall it was a nice experience, with a friendly staff, and nice food. Having said that, there were a few areas where they could certainly improve. The waitress that took us to the table was very friendly, however, although I mentioned online and also to her that it was my partner's birthday, not even a small birthday card or little birthday cake was offered, which was a small disappointment. We also felt that once the tea got served, the waiters forgot a bit about us, and focused in other areas ( they were folding napkins and setting up tables ). It took us about 5-10 minutes to catch their attention in order to get a tea refill or some water.Despite the above issues, we felt that the atmosphere was nice ( there was a harpist playing nice music ), and we got good value for money. All in all it was nice, but It could have been better if they would have gone the extra mile to make a birthday celebration special...

Took my mam for Afternoon tea yesterday for her birthday. I had an Amazon voucher. Whilst we had a good time there were some issues to address:-1. There was no proper baby changing facilities. The one they had which was out of use was located in the basement up and down stairs, with a pushchair not ideal! However we were ushered to a men's changing room to use a bench which my little boy didn't like as it was tiny and dark by the bench.2. My mum can't eat cheese so asked for some salmon and cucumber ones without the cream cheese. They were provided without any issue but when they came the bread was dry and without butter! We checked the other sandwiches and it appeared that none had any butter! 3. Once we had finished our food we asked for tea to be served to us in the foyer. We waited for over 20mins and none arrived.I appreciate we were using a discount voucher but standards still should be maintained. Such a shame.

We were welcomed by main reception and shown to the bar as we were early and they hadn’t quite opened. Once they were ready they collected us and showed us to our table. The staff were very professional and friendly.Tea was served in glass teapot which were lovely and quaint. I had two glasses of champagne as my husband was driving. They catered for me being a vegetarian by giving all vegetarian sandwiches on the stand and a couple of separate ones for my husband. I liked the idea that we could both eat what was on the stand and that the non-vegetarian were separate.Sandwiches were just enough and the scones, cakes and pastries were fresh and tasty.Service good and made to feel welcome, they gave us the cakes we couldn’t eat as a takeaway wrapped in foil. One suggestion would be to have a Montcalm logo bag for guests to take away and maybe a sample of tea as a momento which some of the 5* hotels do after afternoon tea.

My friend and I booked afternoon tea on a Groupon Voucher. We travelled by train purely for this experience. We were truly disappointed.......mainly by the quality of the food. As the tiered plate was presented.....I could see the cakes were very sad looking, and the sandwiches.....well......the bread was dry in places.....like bread goes when its been out on a plate for a long time at the end of a party!! Some of the fillings were unrecognisable in look and taste! I did tell our waiter about the bread....and he did offer to bring fresh ones.....but the fillings put us off anyway! The scones and cakes were heavy and dry......and certainly not fresh or appertising. Needless to say we didnt eat much. The pot of tea was good though! On leaving we werent asked if everything was ok, or bid goodbye. The toilets at the rear oc reception, smelt of sewers and were dark nd hot and stuffy. Finally upon leaving, the doorman was so busy chatting to someone....he forgot to do his job....until i opened the door wide and he stuck his handout to keep hold of it, he didnt even stop chatting to say goodbye......how rude! Overall.....not good.....I would have been even more cross if I had paid full price for this.....but the whole experience wasnt worth the £30 train journey each. We were made to feel because it was voucher deal.....we werent worth good food and service. And i wouldnt be convinced othertwise.

We purchased a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea with prosecco and we were very disappointed with the standard of this meal. The sandwiches were little more than a thin spread of paste or some indiscernable concoction on finger sandwiches which seemed very cheap and nasty. The cakes were little more than sponge type squares of larger cakes cut up which could really have been bought anywhere. The scones were very nice but the rest was very disappointing and certainly not worth even the amount paid on the Groupon voucher which was 50% of the original cost. The original cost would have been around £70.00 for the 2 of us. This would have been a ridiculous amount to pay - thank goodness it was half price!!

My sister and I visited the Montcalm on 19th February for Afternoon Tea with great expectations. The teas were served in glass teapots and also had glass cup and saucers which were very nice. When the sandwiches and cakes arrived, well, could not believe it. The whole of it would not have fed one person let alone two. Never seen sandwiches and rolls so small. There were 4 scones which in total would only have amounted to 2 just about. The cakes were about and inch x inch big and just plain fairy cakes and chocolate but so small again and dry. Not enough cream or jam to barely cover the 4 tiny scones. Oh, but we did also get a glass of champagne, but would soon have had bigger sandwiches. When we left went for something to eat as was starving!!Very poor for such a high calibre hotel.

Unquestionably the worst afternoon tea I have had in any hotel. We were sat in a bland, sole less restaurant served by equally unethusatistic staff. After a 15 minute wait I received my tea, we then had to wait another 10mins for my partner to get his, during which time we watched it sitting on the counter stewing nicely. We struggled to find any filling in the tiny finger sandwiches (especially the egg one). We were not once asked how it was or if, as in the majority of other places, we would like any more. The scones were flat and overcooked, the assortment of cakes were mainly made up of various unexciting sponge cakes, with the exception of a nice macaroon and chocolate square. When we spoke to the restaurant manager we were told they were all bought in – very disappointing for a 5 star hotel! There were 4 other tables occupied (total of 12 people) whilst we were dining. One table of 4 all ordered tomato and mozzarella to start, only three were bought to the table whilst the other diner was told he would have to wait, the waitress gave some story about staggering the orders in the kitchen!! Their red wine was also corked and sent back.On another table a couple waited an hour for their starter and then when their main was bought the lady was served her starter again!!! The excuse given by the manager was that it was their first week – have they never heard of staff training. I’d hate to think how they would cope if the restaurant ever got any busier.Avoid this one – there are so many better ones to choose from in London.

I have just returned from having a champagne afternoon tea with a friend for her birthday (a deal I had purchased through Groupon) The first impression, booking on the phone was easy and the woman was helpful and friendly. We arrived and were given a choice of where to sit. The room itself just off the lobby was modern but pleasant. Our order was taken promptly. Then it all went downhill. The food and tea itself were average. The sandwiches and scones were ok, the pastries were unimpressive. What really surprised me was the complete lack of service from that point on. We were actually ignored. Our table was not cleared, no one came to ask if we wanted a top up or additional items (even if these would have been at a cost). We were not even offered water. Eventually after about an hour I achieved eye contact with a staff member. I asked for water and expressed my disappointment that we were not offered a top up of the tea. I was told in a surly manner that as we were on a voucher one pot each was all we were entitled to. This I accept but the lack of service and courtesy I do not. Even though we purchased a deal surely we were entitled to the same service as a full paying customer. And really do not pay full cost for this tea - it was not in my opinion even worth the half price (£31) for two people that we paid for it!

I took advantage of the Groupon offer for Afternoon Tea at Montcalm Hotel and was excited about taking my mother who had been disappointed that we had to cancel Afternoon Tea at the Ritz last year due to ill-health. On arrival at Montcalm the staff who opened the door was pleasant enough. However we did not feel that the waiter who took our order was attentive although he did ask if we had any allergies. When the tray arrived we could not believe that there were 4 tiny tiny cakes on the top cake tray and on the middle tray there were two scones (one each). The sandwiches were fresh although we asked for cheese and ham one sandwich contained egg. However, the scones were as hard as a rock and it was difficult to cut it. We were only given jam but because of the offer felt reluctant to complain and ask about the clotted cream to have with our scones. If it was not for this deal I would have felt robbed. Unfortunately, if we had an enjoyable experience the hotel would have received more custom as we would have recommended afternoon tea at The Montcalm to friends, family and colleagues. However, it was an unpleasant and disappointing experience after purchasing this offer last year. The Montcalm tea was the nicest part of the day apart from my mother's company. We would not go there again and I feel sad for my mother who was looking forward to it.

I took my boyfriend for afternoon tea in December as a treat. The lobby was really nice; well designed; however the dining room where we had our afternoon tea was half empty even though it was a Saturday just before Christmas. We where offered different types of tea, which arrived in two extremely small tea pots with enough for 1 cup of tea each. We were then brought a cake stand which had obviously been standing out in the dining hall waiting as I saw someone replace it on the counter a few minutes later. On the lowest level of the cake stand were 6 very small stale sandwiches. They had a thick hard layer of butter and minimal bland filling, all tasting similar. The 2 scones were average; clotted cream nice; jam ok. The cakes were very small ( about 8cm diameter) and there were so few of them I can barely remember what they tasted like although the words stale; style over substance; and ambitious spring to mind. We only saw the waitress once as we paid at the start. I kept waiting for the waitress to offer us something else as what we had been offered was so skimpy and unfulfilling; however nothing and no one came. Probably a good thing, in hindsight. We waved goodbye to the waitresses stood by the counters chatting to each-other, and went to get a coffee at a high street establishment hoping for some better quality, quantity and service.

Bad service - very irregular visits to our table. Terrible value - sandwiches and cakes were dried out, and very weak tea. They thought we were mad when we asked for more tea. The duty manager was at her wits end with the sloppiness of the waiters/waitresses service to all tables. It's a shame because the place has so much potential. Stick to The Landmark Hotel or The Haymarket - those places refill the plates and the staff have a smile.

I bought a very cheap deal for tea for two for The Montcalm.I did call before to confirm a dress code and there is none. The hotel reception is very impressive and it was nice the door bing opened etc. The toilets are very clean, only problem was a running toilet bowl. The choice of teas were impressive and our order was taken promptly. There were three types of sandwiches, a scone each and some mini cakes. I have to admitt I was very disappointed with the food. The sandwiches were dry, it seemed they had made them up early in the day and simply left them there until people arrived. It wouldn't have taken long to make fresh sandwiches. The scone with jam and cream was amazing, best part. The cakes were ok but would've been nice to know what they were (I had coffee and I hate coffee!)We found there really wasn't any service after the initial order of tea and giving the tea/food. We had an afternoon tea booked and were looking forward to a five star experience. Although the staff were friendly the quality of the tea was mediocre to say the least. Very cold, over thick sandwiches and indifferent scones - we would have done better to have popped into one of the many chains for tea. No extra hot water to 'top' the tea pot. Very little ambience in the restaurant although that may have just been the modern decor and admit this is subjective. But of nearly £20.00 a head - don't bother.

The hotels location is second to none and it looks very nice but do not judge a book by it's cover in this instance. What we were offered for afternoon tea was meagre to say the least. A few, 3 each I think it was, finger sandwiches, 1 scone and 2 or 3 tiny little pastries (when I say tiny I mean perhaps 1" square) per person for £20 each! I wouldn't recommend afternoon tea (& I use the term loosely when talking about The Montcalm) in this hotel to anyone ever!

This is a review of the afternoon tea at Montcalm Hotel, London. Quite simply, avoid, avoid, avoid. It was singularly the worst dining experience I have had in London this year and by far the worst afternoon tea I have ever had.Do not be fooled by the five star hotel afternoon tea branding. I was greeted by a rude Maire d who never smiled and took us to our table without even saying a word, not offering to take our coats, and we were left by her at a completely bare table (not set for tea or any meal) for 15 minutes before anyone bothered to acknowledge us again. We were offered a tea menu which was a cheap print out, laminated. More three star than five star experience. Tea arrived with strainers but no holders for the strainers so the tea residue dripped all over the table and the spreading tea puddle was ignored by the staff every time they passed by, including the unpleasant Maitre D.Food arrived. My friend is vegetarian, and I had advised the waitress. When the Matire D delivered the sandwiches I explained that I was not vegetarian, I was told, rather rudely that I would also have to eat vegetarian sandwiches. Eventually I was reluctantly offered two finger ham sandwiches but I was made to feel very awkward by the Maitre D! They arrived, on mismatched crockery and were thrown down on the table. The tea consisted of four finger sandwiches each, one scone and four tiny pastries. Go to any other five star afternoon tea, there is more food and each will be replenished freely. Thats the idea of afternoon tea - take your time, indulge and feel free to have plates replenished. Not at the Montcalm, apparently. I asked for an extra scone for me and my friend. They arrived, on another mismatched plate, so cold inside they were white inside. At the end of the meal I asked for the bill and was advised there was an extra charge for the two scones by the Maitre D. I explained that we hadn't been advised of an extra charge and her approach was yet again rude and rather aggressive towards me, I have never heard of an five star hotel afternoon tea where you literally get your plate and nothing more. It was like a department store afternoon tea, and that included the setting, though I suspect the service in a department store restaurant might be better.Would I go back? Absolutely not, never. Would I recommend? No way. Simply put - spend your well earned money elsewhere. Montcalm London offered me the worst afternoon tea I have ever had.

Had taken my family who were visiting from Peterborough and bought cod for 2, a portion of chips and mushy peas . The cod reeked of ammonia and had to throw it in the bin. My family were very dissappointed. My kitchen smelt of old fish for hours. I wanted this to be my new go to place, such a shame.

Myself and a couple of friends visited this venue on a Wednesday night and had a good time, toward the end of the night myself and my friends decided to leave the venue and go home. As we left my friend told me he had left his jacket inside so I went back in to retrieve it, as I exited the premises a member of staff (who I now assume to have been a manager) grabbed the back of my jacket and very forcefully pulled me back inside (bearing in mind that i am only 5ft and this guy was a lot bigger than myself). By the force that this guy had used, I had assumed it was a drunk customer trying to grab me, so when I turned around and asked him to let go of me he went ‘no, what the **** are you doing?!’ And continued to aggressively yell at me while not letting go of me.Turns out he thought I was taking a random jacket. Now, I completely understand that he was making sure the jacket was not being stolen, however the way in which he dealt with the situation was very unnecessary, unprofessional and frightening. If he had came out and tapped me on the shoulder and asked me why I was taking the jacket, instead of forcefully pulling me about unnecessarily, it could have been more easily resolved.
