I went to this cafe to meet a friend. We ordered English charcuterie for starters, one lamb dish for maincourse. The taste was good but not great. Price is reasonable.

A great find for lunch with a self service bar of delicious salads and ambient surroundings. The salad is very good and occasionally, if you have time, there's a free lunchtime concert in the Crypt.

We dined here today for our Sunday lunch, came across it by accident and what a lovely find :) the lamb was divine and the panna cotta the best I've tasted. The wine a little pricey but delicious and the service was impeccable keepUp the good work we will absolutely return next time we are in London :)

The location is great, the atmosphere good. The food is alright. However the waiter just wanted us to leave as soon as we finished the meal, not good enough.

The concert hall is an absolute gem. This cafe is fine for interval drinks (although the pre ordering system on the day we visited was appalling). Unfortunately the cafe is not in my opinion worth visiting in its own right: expensive for what it is, a rather gloomy space, service pretty terrible: nothing worth revisiting, unless it is for an interval drink. However don't let that put you off the concerts which are utterly wonderful.

Visited this restaurant for the first time recently and cannot fault it. The service was great and they helped when I advised that I had to avoid certain ingredients due to dietary needs. The lemon sole was fab - i would definitely recommend!Whilst in the restaurant there was a lovely buffet that had just been set up so I am hoping to return to try that. Ignore the bad reviews on here... Some people cant be pleased. Try it for yourself.

What a shame. This could be such a 'hidden gem', but has a little way to go before achieving that accolade. I have eaten here before and found the food acceptable, but not anything special. My most recent visit was very disappointing though. We arrived a little early, but were happy to sit and wait 15 minutes before lunch service began as we had two young children in tow and it suited us to sit and keep them entertained. However, no one came to take our drinks order or offer us menus while we waited, we had to hunt both of these down ourselves, even though staff were present. Cutting a long story short, we left after 45 minutes, feeling annoyed at having been fobbed off with excuses that due to a Food Hygene inspection they were undergoing, the kitchen were unable to start cooking food on time for the start of lunch service. No one came to notify us of the situation. The staff seemed to regard our presence as an inconvenience. We were tired and hungry after a busy morning spent walking around, but our children were getting restless, and to be honest, so were we. We left and managed to find a perfectly reasonable pub, just around the corner.

The handsome crypt beneath St John's Smith Square (now a well-known concert venue) is a popular lunch place for the Westminster village - MPs, journalists, civil servants and the like. Tables are crammed in under the brick arches and the place has a slightly institutional air. The food is OK and reasonable value. I had a very good scotch egg starter and a so-so fish chowder to follow. But really this is a place to exchange political gossip rather than worship at the temple of gastronomy. Service was amiable but chaotic. Our bill - two courses, no wine, coffee - came to about £25 a head - good value for this part of town.

The only food available post-concert at St. John's Smith Square concert hall's cafe is described on the venue's website thus; "A delicious selection of sharing boards - charcuterie, vegetarian and cheese - is available." I would like them to define "sharing"; to me it implies that there is enough food on one plank to share between 2 people. However, the reality is that a small cheeseboard sized piece of wood has a scraping of meat or a few vegetables or a few morsels of cheese, decorated with bits of rocket, cost £9.75 each. The bread provided was good but insufficient.Bearing in mind that there is very little competition close by, concert-goers are a "captive audience" for this restaurant. Instead of looking after this clientele the restaurant's attitude seems to be "let's rip them off."Service is adequate but even though staff are polite, one gets the impression that you are invading their privacy and preventing them from going home. In addition, the public toilet areas seem to be ignored e.g. paper towel litter due to bins overflowing.

The location is good for Westminster and for concerts at this venue: but the lunchtime food was far from special. The salads that accompany the buffet were far from exciting and a ‘hot’ food choice was lukewarm. The underground cellar environment was perhaps under-lit and a little claustrophobic. Prices were not unreasonable and the service was acceptable.

We visited on a very busy Saturday night - bouncers were quick to de-escalate a potential situation in a calm way which was great to see. Also barmaid Lucy needs a special mention for such great customer service!
