Staying in Hawick on a short break and had travelled along the road to Jedburgh and saw the Cream Puff on our way there so travelling back we decided to stop for a cuppa. A lovely, friendly atmosphere with a great mix of locals and tourists. We opted for tea and lovely fresh scones with jam, all absolutely delicious. There was soup, sandwiches, toasties, panninis and a whole array of fresh, delicious looking cakes and traybakes. This is certainly somewhere we'd recommend if your in the area and somewhere we'll definitely visit again when we're next down this way.

Stopped off for lunch while on the Borders Abbey Way. It was lovely cafe with very welcome staff and a lovely friendly feel, popular with both locals and visitors. I made the most of my rest day (walking rather than running) and had soup and a sandwich (lovely fresh bread and great choice of fillings), followed by coffee and a tasty treat. Great wee rest stop. I’d thoroughly recommend it.

You may have to wait, but good things come to those who do. The venue is small but constantly busy which shows how highly it's rated. It's also inexpensive but thar's not necessarily why trade is so brisk. Service is friendly and if there's a delay it's explained. We've been away a week and eaten out regularly but this was the best of all.

We have just visited this little cafe again for lunch. Home made soup, sandwich, cake & coffee, all freshly prepared while we waited. The staff are always cheerful friendly and welcoming, even when the cafe is busy. The atmosphere is light any airy with a lot of friendly chatter. It is also possible to sit outside in good weather. We try to visit this cafe when we are in the Hawick area, even though we live a couple of hours away, because we are never disappointed, & a take away tray bake keeps us happy once we get home. It's great to have such a friendly, independent cafe with such good food in these financially challenging times. Definitely 5 Stars.

The staff were pretty miserable and I’m pretty sure our custom was an inconvenience to them. Then I was told I had to spend a minimum of £5 to use my card otherwise the lady behind the counter ‘wouldn’t make any money’ and it wouldn’t be worth her while… I didn’t have any cash so a friend and I pooled our orders as we only stopped for a coffee. It’s ok though - the lady justified it as ‘everywhere does this with minimum charges’. Yep… maybe 5 years ago. Update the payment methods and be nice to people who are trying to give you money. Coffee was alright. I’ll probably go elsewhere next time I’m passing through.

We arrived here after a very muddy day's walking just in time for tea and delicious cake at the Cream Puff. This place seems to be the beating heart of the little town with lots of regulars all meeting for a gossip. The home-made fruit cake was really nice. The owner then went out of her way to make some sandwiches for us to collect the next morning. These were really good as well, and we took more of her lovely cakes with us on our walk.

What an absolute gem. This cafe was recommended by a friend and, after walking up and down the nearby Rubers Law we treated our selves. A great pot of tea and a slice of cake. Difficult to chose as all of the cakes and brownies looked fantastic. Settled for a slice of the 3 tier lemon cake. The cake was absolutely fantastic, light with a zestful filling and the perfect complement to the tea. Also treated ourselves to a slice of the biscoff brownie for later. Also brilliant. If you are in Denholm then I highly recommend this cafe. NB you do not have to do the hill walk first.

We were a group of 10 cyclists heading from Newcastle to Innerleithen on 5th June. We’d earmarked Denholm as a late lunch stop and found the Cream Puff cafe online. We got in touch to enquire if we could pre-order some food to help save on time and Jan came back to us with menus. We ordered food for pick up around 2.30pm and on arrival they had everything freshly made up, labelled and packaged for us. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and the food was all delicious. The homemade sausage rolls especially were enjoyed by those who had them and sandwiches were all tasty and filling. As we were part way through a 100 mile ride (with another 110-120 miles the next day) we sampled fruit scones and traybakes too - none of which disappointed. It was no problem for the staff to top up our water bottles which was very welcome on a hot, sunny day. Thank you to all the staff for a great lunch stop which was excellent value for money!

Looked in to the Cream Puff when passing through the village of Denholm with work recently and made the impromptu decision to stop off for lunch.I was greeted with a warm welcome and took a seat and in a timely fashion my order was taken. My food was freshly prepared and I waited no more than 10 minutes before food arrived. I ordered a panini with salad and It was a healthy sized portion I was given and certainly value for money. Such were the delights on offer on the cake stands I had no choice but to indulge while I took some traybake away (the malteaser crunch - wow!) with me for afters later on!The place was full of local people who it seems attend regularly, with some making the journey 3 to 4 times a week for lunch, so what more really needs to be said!WiFi is available although no card payments are taken but hey that just adds to its charm considering the modern digital world we now live in. Had I had more time, and say a good book with me, I’d would have happily have lost myself at this hidden gem of a coffee shop for more than a couple of hours!

No non-dairy milk available. Cakes looked nice but no room after our sandwiches. Service wasn't unfriendly but not friendly either. Couldn't crack a smile. Not open Sun or Mon. Cash payment only. This was my first visit to the Cream Puff and visited for a drink and snack during a local cycle run. I’d heard a lot of good reports about it, therefore this was a good opportunity to try it out. Three teas, a chocolate snack, homemade cake and a filled roll came to just over £9 which I thought was acceptable and service was very good and friendly. Unfortunately they only accept cash only and that is clearly displayed although I was still taken unawares, lol. It was a good experience and I’m more than happy to recommend and revisit

Passed through Denholm during the floods on Saturday 5th December, the owner had just closed for the day but opened up for me when I knocked on her door, a bit wet and bedraggled. This is a very pleasant, well-run coffee shop near Hawick. It scores highly for its cleanliness, range of home-made cakes, freshness of the food and a bright, pleasant interior. The paninis (I had bacon, brie and cranberry) were well done and the accompanying salad nicely presented. Two very pleasant young women provided good service. Just remember to take cash, or you'll be doing the washing up.

Stopped here for tea and cakes on a saturday afternoon whilst we were in the local area for a weekend away. Small but very cosy in inside, and nicely decorated. The choice of cakes was good, and all looked and sounded amazing! We opted for a lemon bakewell and a cappuccino sponge cake and both were delicious. Very reasonably priced, but they only take cash, which is only reason for scoring 4/5 and not 5/5.

Best coffee, cakes and snack lunches in the Borders - I say 'snack' but one of the Puff's filled paninis and salad makes a delicious and pretty substantial meal. Jan's cakes are frankly to die for - and so good to look at it's almost a shame to eat them.Expect reasonable prices and efficient and friendly service in this pleasant and comfortable eatery.. Both the inside and outside seating have great views over one of the prettiest village greens around, and cyclists and motorcyclists can keep an eye on their machines close by. Jan and Shona's once a month internationally-themed supper evenings during winter are not to be missed [essential to book] when this former village store converts from coffee shop into very ambient restaurant. Menu is 3 and sometimes four course for a very affordable fixed price.

The young lady who owns the Cream Puff was not phased by the ' noisy' gang of ageing walkers and served both the rolls and coffee with a happy and welcoming smile. The rolls were excellent. The ingredients all locally sourced. She also does light lunches and friends have recommend the cakes. The Cream Puff deserves to be successful.

Had been looking forward to my visit made specifically to try this place out. Noone else in except the numerous staff all talking away happily to each other. After looking at menu which looked fabulous I went up to order as none of staff looked vaguely interested in taking my order. No sit down we will come to you. I sat and waited and the place started to fill. 3 other tables came in and someone came from behind the counter to clear dirty dishes that had been on a table when I went in. Finally someone came to serve me and I commented on my wait to which I was given a story about the coffee machine not working which was why staff were chatting. Hmmmmn really. Then as of course luck would have it they were out of the very thing I was there to have. I will give them another chance another day as the menu was interesting but the service was shockingly bad especially if they then are having to tell people no coffee! Zero recognition of interaction with customers and I speak as someone with a long hospitality career. Great location great menu but lacking in customer connection.
