It's always a pleasant surprise to find a pub with a good menu using local ingredients! We ate well, the service was friendly. The pub has a large garden. This must be one of the best pubs for miles in any direction! My wife left her sunglasses behind, but Tim, the landlord, was super-helpful, finding them and posting them on. We will definitely go there again.

Due to a misunderstanding we thought we could enter hotel before opening to use toilet as the less abled public toilet no one had access to the key . Before I could explain a very rude man , apparently the manager , came storming out shouting and swearing and told us to get f****** out and became very aggressive towards us. When I said we would come back at opening time for some food I was told to don’t bother f****** bother you are barred then stoned up a set of stairs . This man I had never met in my life and I find it extraordinary that he acted like this

We stumbled upon this place by chance, the service was first rate, the beer garden was lovely and the food was perfect. They have done variations on all sorts of takeaways- I had chicken kebab and it was lovely, my OH had double burger and it was huge! Cask ale was good and it all felt covid safe with ordering via an app

Had tickets to a gig here and attempted three times to book a table for a meal before hand. Twice got an answer machine that said they would phone back, but they didn't and emailed, no reply. We ate elsewhere and went into the pub for a drink before the gig. Surprised to see diners eating in there. Unimpressed with the pub, dated, dirty and scruffy. The place the gig was in was fine. However, when the manager stood up to thank the band at the end we thought his foul language was unnecessary and inappropriate considering there were very young childeren and elderly people there. He shouted,'That was effing brilliant, give me an effing lemon to wipe the smile off my effing face. You guys weren't even effing looking at each other'. Even the band members looked taken aback. Needless to say we won't be hurrying back to see any gigs here and from the other reviews we were fortunate not to eat there after all.

I visit Moniaive a lot when I visit family and eat at the Craig most times I am up. Tim always serves up a good meal. There's a good variety. I can recommend the Mac and Cheese and the veggie haggis. Good hearty portions and good quality food and the atmosphere is good too. The Craig is in the heart of the village and is well worth a visit

Friendly welcome, lovely staff, however the food, whilst edible, was pretty poor. As it was a Wednesday, the manager made us aware that some menu items were not available as the delivery comes on a Thursday. Chips were not fresh, but frozen and the mash was substituted with frozen roast potatoes (although there was a Premier shop over the road which I'm sure sold potatoes, so this could have easily been rectified). The salad with my husband's overcooked burger was just lettuce and the fish had a very strange greasy batter on so I think came out of a packet too! Finally the vegetables with my bangers and roast potatoes (mash) were overcooked brussel sprouts...my daughter sarcastically asked me if it was Christmas! We played pool afterwards and as we walked back through the bar there was a jamming session going on with some locals which looked as if it would be good fun. In short, great staff, good atmosphere but avoid the food.

Called in for a sandwich and coffee as the other restaurants were closed due to winter hours. The owner was very pleasant and made us feel welcome. The premises have so much character as it looks as if it;s not been changed in years, with log fires burning away. The food was good and service also good.

Visited with a friend after a walk in the hills. It was a good job we were hungry, or we'd rather not have eaten there. The starters were ok. I had tomato soup, which was fine - it came with a large wedge of bread. My friend had a smoked salmon fishcake which also didn't seem too bad. The mains, however, were not so good. M friend's Pork and apple burger was burned. Not just charred, but overcooked. There was virtually no apple sauce. The chips weren't cooked enough, and the salad was rather lackluster. My lasagne looked very unappetising, rather like it had just been thrown into the bowl. It was edible, but nothing special at all. The extra side of chips I had ordered didn't come, but when the waitress eventually noticed this, I decided I'd rather not have them. In summary, while the food was edible, we paid as much as you'd pay in a decent city pub for something similar, but really weren't satisfied with the food. In fairness to the establishment, we chose not to mention this on the day - it's just easier and we were tired - and so didn't give the management a chance to put things right for us.

This place is a welcoming place and seems to be a hub for local village life. The staff were polite and welcoming. BUT - and this is a big but - the food was atrocious. The place for eating was depressing and the table sticky and possibly hadn’t been properly cleaned for some time. The service was fast but what came on my plate was inedible: The vegetables killed by over cooking, the potatoes over salted and what could have been a delicious steak pie was cooked in a way that seemed abusive. The tarte au citron was rock hard due to the fact it hadn’t been defrosted. This place has the makings of a great place but the chef needs to be fired or sent on a cookery course and the phone number for The Hotel Inspector would be advisable.

The food is traditionally Scottish. Tim, the pub owner and the staff are ever so helpful and they will go out their way to make your food how you really want it. There is always something going on and so you will surely be entertained!

We saw the musical instruments as we were passing and popped in to find out if there was any live music on. Staff were really friendly and accommodating. The food was basic but very enjoyable and we had a lovely evening chatting with the locals and playing darts. Sadly we picked the one Saturday they didn't have music but with a bit of luck that won't be the case for our next visit.

We popped in a bit late on, it was fairly busy so we were put in the pool room as we needed a larger table. We immediately struck up a rappor with the waitress/ barmaid and had a good laugh Our food arrived , the only complaint appeared to be the lack of greenery with the fish and chips . After a couple of games of pool we moved through to the lounge area! Which did have a cosier atmosphere. If you don't want run of the mill, then this the place

As we were staying the night at this hotel we decided to eat there. The idea was to spend a night at the Craigdarroch Arms Hotel and enjoy a meal in the evening, which is just what we did.We are not the "going out" type so this was a pleasant change for us.You can choose from the bar meals menu or the restaurant menu, both of which are served all day and every day until 8.30ish pm. We did actually see folks ordering food well after this time, I guess it is up to "Chef."You can choose to eat in either the bars or the dining room, doesn't matter which menu you choose from. Please look at photo 1 and 2 for the menus. I chose from the restaurant menu and opted for barbary duck breast served with spring onion mash, garlic and chilli veg and a very tasty jus. This was absolutely delicious, the duck cooked to perfection as I was asked how I would like it cooked. The only little niggle was that the vegs. were nearly raw (although I do like my vegs. al dente) and the plate should have been red hot to keep the food warm.Nick chose one of his favourites from the bar menu, gammon, egg and chips which was served with a dressed side salad. This actually came with fries which spoilt it a little, Nick far prefering proper chips but he still enjoyed it and ate every bit. No scraps for the animal sanctuary from us!!Service was efficient and the meal arrived in less than ten minutes. The bar menu doubles up as the local take away and it was nice to see some young lads allowed to sit down with their burgers and eat in!A very enjoyable meal although we didn't feel overly full. Maybe we just have huge appetites!!!!Address: Craigdarroch Arms Hotel, Moniaive, Dumfries & GallPhone: 01848 200205

This was our first visit to the Anchor and we will definitely be back. The food was tasty and well cooked. The tempura prawns were crisp and sweet and the haggis bon bons were also in a crisp shell. The Highland Game pie was superb with lots of fresh vegetables. The pasta dish was also good. Service throughout was friendly. Next time we would prefer to be in the room with the open fire as the room we were in lacked a little atmosphere. All in all a successful evening.

Went for Sunday lunch, it was ok. Plates for the carvery dangerously hot, A HAZARD. Meals were ok. Desserts were nice with a teaspoon of custard. The ice cream was sorbet which if we'd known we wouldn't have bothered with. Would probably go back if in area.

Excellent service with you ordering everything from your table which is very convenient. Good choice of food although children’s menu could be better and there were no pizzas which dissapointed our youngest grandchild. We all enjoyed what we ordered and look forward to calling again soon.

Recently came here for coffee and pastry. Service was great, pastrie was good but coffee was terrible. Perfectly located right near the highway near the shopping center.
