We have been NT members for over a decade and have seen many amazing places. Visited Crafside for the first time this week and can honestly say that it is our new favourite. So easy to spend a full day there. The property is second to none. A drive-along carriage route offers plenty of beauty spots as well as an incredible childrens play area.

Beautiful estate with so much to explore. We massively enjoyed our visit here. You don't feel like you're still in the UK! One star lost as the staff at the drive-in entrance scanned our vouchers and was close to denying them even though their system accepted them - all because they'd not seen it before.. not the customer's problem! But would return and pay full price again no problem.

Have just returned from our day walking at Cragside (we have been into the magnificent house before). Unfortunately the coffee we had before we started our walk was horribly luke warm, then from the map we were given on arrival we couldn’t find the start of our walk, The Gun Walk, and ended up doing it backwards which was quite difficult. Initially there are no signs to get you to your walk. The colours don’t match the ones on the map. The colours on the map are difficult to distinguish from each other. There are other routes/walks not even on the map and the whole thing is a confusing mess. It started raining, my husband became frustrated and grumpy and we met two separate sets of people who were as confused and lost as us! Please reprint your maps to be accurate and more informative!

Lovely place overall but the cafe is daylight robbery for what you get on the plate. The cafe area is my only issue on the day. The food wasn't all that great but really really expensive for a light lunch. I've eaten there once now and as a national trust member, I will remember not to have food again here for the sole reason of price. The staff are all friendly and answered all our questions. Some of the walks may be a bit hazardous during Winter/ Early spring, but when the ground firms up and it's a dry day I intend to come back. The house is really impressive and is mind bogglingly, minimum a 150yrs old yet so modern. Had free entry as I'm a national trust member, and really re-enforced the great value for money you get with it. The estate also has motorhome suitable parking.

We are National Trust members and call into cragside on a regular basis, there is so much to do and see on site, it is the best of all the sites we have visited and well worth several visit as it is difficult to see everything in one go. You can park in the main car park and visit the house which is almost a visit in it's self then the hydroelectric area, the visitors centre with shop, tearoom and information centre. Then take the car on the carriage drive, this is a one way tour of the estate with loads of car parks for stopping at picnic site's and other attractions such as the labyrinth, the children's play area or one of the many lakes, there are loads of walks dotted all over the estate, some need good strong shoes or boots. If you are a non-member, you really get your money's worth. Go early, and you can fill the whole day and still not see everything.

Went here in October. This was somewhere I'd always wanted to visit and I wasn't disappointed. Started off with the six-mile carriage drive and stopped off at several car parks to do some of the waymarked walks with the dogs. Allow enough time for the walks as there is a lot to see, including the water intake for the lakes as part of the original hydroelectric scheme. Afterward visited the house and you go around at your own pace following the waymarked route. We spent quite a long time here and we could have spent longer.

Cafe very good but busy - I had the Cornish pasty - delicious 😋 If that wasn’t enough then there is the house and the vast array of innovative designs which were ahead of their time, hydro electric power - (electricity in the house), central heating, automated spit for roasting meat etc etc, it goes on and on. Have you ever looked at a map and seen somewhere and thought, wow that looks a long way away and in the middle of nowhere, maybe I'll go somewhere closer? This was me and Cragside. Always thought it looked amazing in the photos but the dread of the kids whining in the car for over an hour, or worse taking a danger nap, or even worse getting travel sick on the windy roads put me off. Except this week I was within shooting distance, and only with one child, and there was a few hours break in the rain. So I went for it. Totally, utterly patting myself on the back for the decision. Café, brilliant. Shop and visitor centre, lovely. Play area, great (even in rain and boggy conditions). Toilets and small café there a bonus. The house, wow! Toilets and a café there too. The number of times I've planned to go back because I think you could spend days there and still not see it all... Many. I regret not going before and will certainly be making the most of my NT passes in the future to return. Notes on accessibility... The accessible parking for the main house is close but there is a long steep slope down and my BB holder needed dropping down and picking up from nearer the house which was a faff and also unpleasant when I was road raged on the return journey, on a two way narrow track, by another driver who didn't realise it was a two way track. I did spot a shuttle bus service which is worth investigating. There are only 3 accessible spaces by the visitor centre. You can pick up access guide in the visitor centre on the right hand side rooms as you go in to the courtyard. Some parts of the house require climbing stairs but there is plenty to see on the ground floor and an optional video of the upstairs. If you've got a highly movement oriented, sensory seeking kid like mine the house is a bit of a minefield in terms of the temptation to touch things and the possibility of breaking things. A couple of activities for kids were available. There's also a few rooms I could see my toddler, if not reined could easily run under the barrier and into. I might therefore return to the house when kids are older to save my sanity!

The grounds staff at Cragside do a remarkable job at looking after the gardens and the estate, it's always worth visiting in Summer. But we went, most recently, in October and got to enjoy a rarer blend of full and leafy gardens but with magnificent deep autumn colours. Also - wasn't even too cold so we could get a few of their leisurely walks in.
