Would not recommend this place! Worst fish and chips EVER…….soggy batter, chips greasy, could taste the oil £24 odd wasted. NEVER AGAIN!

Beautiful, we sat in the Restaurant 4 Adults 3 of which had Cod and chips, 1 had scampi and chips, 2 kids 1 had Cod and chips and the other sausage and chips all amazing. The meals were large and not at all greasy. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I would highly recommend a visit if your in the area.

Just had the worst ever Fish Chips and Mushy peas, and at almost £13-00 I wish I had gone to the burger place with the 'M' sign instead. The fish was mainly hardened batter, with 50% of it wafer thin and bland, no taste at all, the chips were pathetic anorexic attempts, threw nearly all away for the birds, then the mushy peas, firstly it was mainly just pea water, and the cartons are a joke, with a false bottom giving the appearance of a much larger portion of the pea juice, tasteless as well. A real poor experience overall, if I had the time I would have returned them, but was on a long drive, and at 7.30pm I was not prepared to drive back.

Had a fantastic meal. Fish and chips were absolutely amazing, freshly cooked and the best batter on the fish .....Will definitely be back again.

You can have small fish and chips, large fish and chips or super large fish and chips😃 and everything else you would expect in a good fish and chip shop. But also lovely ambiance dinning room to eat in. Probably the best cod and chips we have had in the whole of England. And that’s from visitors from London. And they loved our friends dogs little and large. Treat yourself by having supper here 😃 enjoy

Beautiful fish and chips. Would have been 5 stars but the batter was far far too thick on the fish which made it slightly off putting. Would be great to see kids portion sizes on there too. App very handy and easy to use.

Whilst on holiday in Berwick, Coulls was highly recommended for gluten free and as a family member is coeliac, we decided to pop in. We were met by a pleasant young lady who kindly seated us at the last table available. We had a browse through the menus (nothing stated as gf). Whilst waiting we were quite disgusted to see a gentleman at another table putting some fish into his mouth, then literally spitting it back out onto his plate!!!!! The waitress then came to our table, I asked for a gluten free menu, only to be told they didn't have any gluten free that night! Needless to say, we left. And sadly won't be returning!

Lovely restaurant. The fish and chips were fresh, light, delicious and a very generous in portion size. My two teens struggled to finish theirs! Great service too.

Been going to this chip shop for a few years and previously it has been decent. Tonight was dreadful though. The girl who served me was incredibly rude as I considered it polite to step away from the counter whilst my order was being prepared. Not only that but I was served just over 50% of a fish. I don’t think I have been served by this employee before and I hope not to be again.

Lovely Fish and chips with generous portions. Staff gave my wife a takeaway box with what she couldn’t finish. Nice atmosphere and very clean. Toilets were also A1

The best Fish and Chips we’ve had for ages. We were on our way to Newcastle and just stopped in on the way. Cod and Chips and Haddock and chips our choices. Huge portions and beautiful fish and Chips. Service was fast and happy in this busy little place.

Absolutely beautiful Fish and chips. Fish just melts in your mouth and chips were squashes. Facilities were clean and tidy. Staff were really helpful and friendly.

The second evening of our first ever stay in Berwick and wherever we go we try the fish and chips so we tried Coull's, and we were very impressed! Big portions and lovely crispy batter. Would suggest that the online ordering form be adjusted though as currently peas can only be ordered in a portion of 'chips and peas', yet they are wrapped separately anyway.

Currently staying at Haggerston Castle and our preference is to eat offsite. We visited Coulls after a long day of driving and ordered 1x battered fish supper, 1x breaded fish supper, kids fish supper and a portion of curry sauce. We also had 2 bottles of juice and a bottle of water which came to just under £40 - seemed very overpriced. Fish was cooked fresh however, it appeared to be the only thing. Everything else was sat ready to be eaten. Fish was good but chips were average and lukewarm. Very disappointing, especially for the price.

This is by far the best fried fish we've had in a long time. Two of our party opted for cod and I chose haddock - all were lovely large pieces of fish and the batter was crisp and delicious. We shared two portions of lovely chips between us but there were still too many.... the portions are large! The guy frying was funny and friendly and the girls serving were friendly and helpful, too! Recommend this fish shop and restaurant to anyone visiting Berwick.

Shared the jumbo haddock between us at 21.95 as the normal portion was an eye watering £16 odd ! Then got charged £1.75 for mushy peas and another £1.75 for curry sauce.. surely peas should be standard! 1/2 waitresses were friendly.. wow the one that was not was really not happy to be there. Delicious cod & chips with a pot of tea. ( Also offered mushy peas & bread & butter.) We opted for the reduced rate ( $12.95 pp) for pensioner but still had a sizeable meal each. Good trad batter on fish. Staff pleasant & service good.

We ate in for our dinner, I had the haddock goujons and my husband had the cod and chips. They were both excellent and a good size portion, the restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff friendly. I would definitely recommend Coull's to everyone.

Fantastic fish & chips. We ate in and had one pensioner meal, plus 2 regular cod & chips. The food was absolutely delicious, cooked to order and portion sizes really good. The waiting staff were really friendly. This is the second time we’ve been to Coull’s and would 100% recommend it to anyone.

4 of us ate in. 3 had the pensioner meal at 12.95. This was very big for a “pensioner” meal. I simply had the standard haddock and chips at 16.95. This was also very generous with 2 substantial pieces of haddock - do not order the dearer “large”! The haddock itself was good, batter crunchy but quite thick. Chips fair. Neither greasy.

A review here for cannons Berwick AVOID AT ALL COST !!! my mum dad and disabled brother visited last night while they were on a trip headed home from Berwick they waited nearly twenty minutes to be served broken pieces of fish that went bad and old greasy chips with scraps that were black they were fried that long my dad broken the fish open and realised it was putrified so he binned immediately however my brother has autism and once he was handed his meal because my mum and dad is elderly they couldn't prise it from his hands and he ate the fish and chips and he has been on the toilet all day continuous diarrhea so he has been food poisoned and should really sue them they do still have some of the fish so they may take them to court

I Ordered 3 fish suppers From Here Last Night, I Placed My Order And Waited Quite A While As They Served People Who Ordered After me. Then When I Got the Fish It Was Awful, Had To Bin It, Left Me Feeling ill, I Do Not Recommend This Establishment To Anyone.

Well rated by most on Tripadvisor, and just down from our B&B near the station on Castlegate, so decided to try it. Seated immediately by friendly staff who gave us enough time to select our drinks & food separately, and answered any queries without issue. Restaurant welcomely warm on a wet day. Fish & Chips good & well proportioned (£17), Foot long Battered sausage & Chips excellent (£13). It's a little expensive, but well worth it. Note: There is a pensioner special if you're at that time in life, includes Fish, Chips, bread, Butter & Tea for £13 (ish).

Overcooked and overpriced! £17.00 to sit in and eat Haddock and Chips or £12 00 to take out. Foolishly I decided to take away! Served without a smile ( I'm guessing that was extra) and told that I can't put my own condiments on due to Covid regulations! (I'm not sure if they have realised that poor covid excuses like these no longer wash with the majority of intelligent of society) I say foolishly I opted to eat out and not in, because had I eaten such poor food in, I would have refused to pay. I'm sure Berwick can do better, in quality, service, and quality. Avoid and go elsewhere! See the pic of the poor quality, over cooked and overpriced fish.

This is a great place to get fish and chips. We ordered one portion to share as they are large and delicious portions. Service was great and staff friendly. We highly recommend eating here

Gosh ‘award winning’? Absolutely not. The box was swimming in grease. The batter was too thick and oddly chewy. The fish it’s self was tasty but the thinness pieces of cod I’ve ever had. Really poor standard.

Looked nice from the outside - with a sign 'Award winning', so thought it would be fine. Not many people to start with, but I was rather early. Ordered fish and chips and baked potato, plus a glass of rosé wine. Should be simple. Got a glass and a small bottle of wine, but I wasn't able to open the bottle myself (at home I have gadgets to help me). Had to ask 3 times, before one of the young waiters came and did it. The wine was lukewarm. Food came - soggy baked potato with a tremendous amount of cheese. The fish was mainly batter with a very thin slice of fish inside. Unnecessary to say I was disappointed. A senior couple came in and she wanted to sit in the sun – lots of available tables – but was placed by the wall. They sat a few minutes, then rose and left. Would never go there again. Must have been other staff running the restaurant for them to get any rewards.

Fish and chips on holiday cos holiday calories don't count right? !! Decided on this place as was close to car park and saw the sign for award winning and dogs were allowed inside. WOW! Portion sizes were huge - 2 fish on each plate, the only down side was the size of the mushy peas which was an extra but staff were lovely, surroundings modern and clean and food great. All in all a fab meal had in a dry place with a dog - small things but when drizzly the last thing you want is to have to sit outside with your beloved pet and eat!

My son and i came here for a takeaway while on holiday at the caravan park . Most of it went in the bin because it was awful ! We had fish and chips and thought we had been given kids portions . The fish was the smallest and thinnest I’ve ever had , most of it was batter which oozed the oil it was fried in and didn’t taste very fresh at all . The chips were very dry but the seagulls enjoyed them . Wasn’t the cheapest either , you can go to Morrison’s cafe and get fish and chips half the price and it’s delicious , not a sign of grease and made fresh to order .

I have always enjoyed takeaway fish and chips from this place. However I recently eat in the restaurant. Greeted with a sullen waitress with huge eyelashes and a huge surly attitude and shown to a seat. She came back ten minutes later with the comment ‘do you know what you’re having yet’ no smile, no please or thank you. The food was poor, I had breaded haddock which was flat and dry, chips dry and salad dry and old. When I went to pay, there was no thank you upon payment (same miserable waitress) and a pile of coppers given in change which I left as a tip. I noticed this waitress was as miserable to all the other people I watched her serve so at least I know it wasn’t personal. She’ll loose you customers coulls

Hubby and I had a lovely time walking through Berwick-upon-Tweed and popped into Coull’s for a bite to eat at about 3h15pm. Only 2 tables were occupied on arrival and we chose to sit in the outside area. We enquired at the counter about ordering and were told we would be served at the table. However, after 10min of waiting - and 1 new couple arrived - I went to place an order. One young lady was wiping tables and the other was taking an order from the new table that arrived after us. I joked that we’d been forgotten about and got an attitude, saying they are busy. I pointed out there were only 2 tables. She said there’s only 2 of them and the other young lady had been washing dishes. Later I noticed that they were actually 3 on duty and in the next door takeaways were 3 adult ladies. Anyhow, I ordered 2 burgers and drinks. The latter was brought under duress with a negative facial expression, and drinks were dropped on the table. Food was at least brought with an enquiry if we wanted any other sauces, but with the same look of contempt. The hamburger patty had been microwaved and got hard around the edges before we finished eating. On payment of £33.65 there was no friendliness or courtesy at all from Kieira (name on receipt). Sorry, Coull’s, but youngsters like this are going to kill your business before you know it. This has put me off recommending to visitors.

We are from Inverness and this is the second time in three months we visited the chip shop takeaway and restaurant. It’s absolutely top notch when it comes to service, ambience, quality, great value and high standards. First visit we were travelling to Newcastle airport and arrived just too late to sit in, 8.15pm however, the food looked so good that we went next door to the chip shop as that is where it’s all cooked. All the time on holiday in Gran Canaria all I spoke about was how delicious my haggis super was. My goodness, the portions are great, however, the quality of the food is second to none, absolutely delicious! The second visit was with family sitting in, well, I tell you the decor and ambience is stunning and outside area are the back. The attention to detail with the decor, right through to the toilets, I actually had to take a photo of toilet area, as just stunning! Strange, but true! Would absolutely recommend paying a visit!

We booked for the restaurant for 3 in front of several staff members, turned up at 7pm as agreed and were told the restaurant was closed and they had no record of our booking, and" the restaurant and the take-out aren't the same". They let us in, gave us 45 mins and watched us from the bar. Food very low on seasoning and chips soggy. Seemed to remember it was well thought of once, but we won't go again.

Had lunch here with our dog Bella. Our first trip to Berwick upon tweed. The food was outstanding as was the service from Ella our waitress. And the dog treats definitely a winner. Highly recommend. I got fish and chips and a single fish. I asked for some tomato sauce on the fish supper, only to be told its 30p.! When I asked why I had to pay the girl said "do you know how much it costs us for the sauce" Most places you get free sauce. There was also too much batter compared to fish.

Got fish and chips from here and the fish was clearly bad. The smell and taste was nasty. Went back to ask for refund and was told it was OK. Not sure this guy had a sense of smell because it wasn't. His attitude was all wrong if the customer is not satisfied then he should of offered a refund or some compensation. I will not be returning to this shop. Make sure to smell fish before you leave.
