CrabShack in Worthing

Went for dinner, our first visit to this restaurant. Had crab cakes and squid starters, with fish stew and Sussex smokey haddock pie. Truly delicious, the flavours were bloody lovely and we eat every morsel. Really really great food washed down with several nice beers.

Having read in the local press about the Crab Shack's award for Best Sussex Restaurant ( for the second year running) my wife and I, having failed to find a last minute table for Sunday lunchtime service through their booking engine, we took a chance and drove down from Horsham. It was rammed, but they kindly found us a table within 15 minutes So, so glad they did - we tried their sharing Fish Plate for 2 - we reckoned it would illustrate their skills well enough It was marvellous, and so generous, washed down with a glass or two of their pleasant wine offerings Service was lovely, and everybody had a smile on their face - we felt so lucky We will make sure we book next time - oh yes, there will most certainly be a next time, and soon!!

The most beautiful lunch. Clean, fresh oysters followed up by equally fresh and delicious crab, bream and prawns. Wines were the perfect accompaniment and the service was absolutely lovely. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Possibly the tastiest meal I’ve eaten out.. ever… I’m 58, so that’s quite a thing!.. various bits to share as a starter followed by sicilian fish stew.. finished off with a proper espresso martini… absolutely spot on delicious. Good friendly service too 😊😊😊

Really enjoyed sitting in the sun. We had crab cakes and margarettia. Both which i have only had in CA with my family . Brought back lovely memories.

02.04.2024 Even though we sat out side - there was a bit of a breeze - the table top heater was fabulous and there were blankets if required..Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch fresh crab sandwich with skinny chips and salad and OH has crab fishcakes in a fabulous tomato based sauce. Wonderful service and fab food. Will work our through the menu with the specials board changing on a regular basis (i think) Congratulations on your latest award Well deserved 👏

New establishment, what a gem in up and coming Worthing!

Been meaning to go there for a long while since they had the concession at Shelter Hall, Brighton. Now wondering why I waited so long to get myself to Worthing - the food was excellent. We had the sharing fishy feast which showcased some of the tastiest treats they offer. We struggled to finish it all but would definitely have it again.

We went for lunch without a reservation and were greeted so warmly on arrival and made so welcome. The quality of the food was outstanding - so fresh and delicious and generous portions. I had the dressed crab salad which came with a beautiful green salad which had exactly the perfect amount of dressing and seasoning, with hot, crisp, fresh French fries and fresh bread and plenty of butter, lemon mayonnaise and fresh fish pate on sourdough - what an absolute treat! My husband had the fish burger with home made kimchi and he said it was so fresh and delicious, he was seriously impressed! We also shared a chocolate brownie dessert which was served warm with ice cream - really excellent and again a generous portion! Thank you Andy and your wonderful staff for a fabulous experience and we can’t wait to come again!

Im a gluton, if not a glouton, for sea food, so CrabShack is the obvious place to go. Nice ambience with good service and a comfortable interior. Probably much nicer on a warm summer evening to sit outside, but not in March. Starters were prawn cocktail and crispy squid. Both excellent and not your common old supermarket squid rings one so often gets. Proper squid cuts with a delicious batter. The prawn cocktail was generous and very tasty. Main course I had moule, a little disappointing as the very descriptive menu extolling additions of celery and shallots was a little sparing with a sprinkle of onion and a cream sauce. Only a hint of garlic. The Crab cakes were large, very crabby and tasty, I had a sample, and they came in a lovely red peper and paprika sauce. Two beers, a glass of wine and service said goodbye to £80+. The moule at £18 was disappointing.

Generous and delicious seafood: we came for lunch and for starters we had the prawn cocktail which was creamy and plentiful, and the cockle and shrimp popcorn which was lightly crumbed and very moreish. My husband had crab cakes for a main, and I had the dressed crab: all delicious and came with lovely crispy chips. A real treat! And very efficient and friendly service.

Away from the riff-raff of the main part of town, this family-run seafood restaurant is well worth seeking out. The quality of the menu was excellent, and the service was welcoming and friendly - which did much to dispel the rather chilly outside dining (under a large tent with heaters and blankets)!

Had high expectations given supposed awards, however sadly let down. I question the votes were legit after this performance, poor food, poor customer service, even when complained nothing was done to rectify £63.40 on the worst food I’ve had in a long time! Would definitely not return or recommend!

Brilliant dinner - hadn't intended to visit again but when we passed we were drawn in due to past experiences here and we weren't surprised. We hadn't booked but Sarah [a brilliant host] squeezed us in with an ample time limit. Food excellent as always, service exceptional, the whole team polite courteous and friendly. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. A great early evening dinner - thank you Crabshack.

We booked late and they squeezed us in at a high table for two for 5pm. That worked well for us . We were told we could have the table for two hours. Friendly service from the owner. All our food was delicious. I had 6 jersey rock oysters and my husband chose the prawn cocktail - both delicious. For main courses we both chose the daily special of gurnard with beans and kale. Again this was well cooked and tasted wonderful. To finish l my husband enjoyed the chocolate brownie with ice cream and I had a pot of tea. The house rose wine was a good choice to go with the meal. We will be back as we love fish - this place is great!

Second visit after a great first experience. The previously wonderful fish stew was ludicrously spicy this time around which was a shame. Couldn’t taste any individual flavours, beautifully prepared fish, prawns mussels and squid just completely swamped with chilli. Have walked past a few times since but eaten elsewhere.

If you like Seafood, then this is your heaven. Right from the friendly and genuine greeting through to the superb food, drink and service this place is superb. My wife rates the crab 10 out of 10 and we will be back many times. Highly recommended.

We were lucky that we had our choice of seating. Was supposed to be a rainy afternoon, but again our luck preserved, so we decided to sit outside. The service was prompt and convivial. Our orders were delivered in a timely manner and looked delicious. My crabcakes could have been seared a tad more, and the size expanded somewhat. Nevertheless, they were quite tasteful. The side order of French fries was equally fresh and flavorful. The price was in the upper range. Would definitely return.

Completely honest review. You feel little rushed, not most welcoming, they want you in n out. Dont be late. Food is reasonably priced but being a pescatarian Iv had better in general restaurants. Seafood is dressed to death. Battered fish had very strong fishy smell. Any seafood lover knows fresh fish doesn't smell strong like this. Lot is bulked out with Bread and salads. Mussels and squid are cooked very well. Lil hit n miss. Think I wouldnt have been so critical if it wasn't hyped up so much. Its an OK place to grab a bite,I wouldnt make a beeline or use it for special occasion. Interior is really nice and it's all very clean.

Previously, we decided on the CrabShack Fish Plate for two. It offered a variety of delicious flavors. We were satisfied, so we returned to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had reserved a table in advance. For starters, we chose the mussel and shrimp cocktail (£8). It was good, a nice appetizer. For the main course, my husband and son ordered the Portland Shellfish crab (£23.95), while I opted for the delicious Baked Sole in a lemon and caper butter sauce (450g, £40). The fish was very fresh and incredibly tasty. A wonderful meal. The staff was friendly, helpful but not intrusive. The food, atmosphere, location, and service were excellent. The only slight downside was the lack of prior information about the 10% service charge added to the bill. It's not cheap, but it's worth it. I highly recommend it. Had a very enjoyable meal here, amazing dressed crab and fish. Quick and pleasant service. Not a lot of kids choices but they offer fishy bites and chips. Sat in the outside area where they provide blankets but it's covered and very well heated.

Well what a lovely little place to start for sure!. The staff were lovely and very warm welcoming and friendly 100% 😁. The food was nice 👍, ended up with a lot of chilli lol with my starter which was the crispy squid. The main meal was nice, the only downside I had experienced with this was inside the crab meat which was yummy, I come around bits on shell in it that meant I had to put into a napkin on the side for multiple times but other than that it was very nice. The rest of the family had crab cakes for their main meal and they really enjoyed it. Will definitely go back again! But I felt the portion size was a little small for the price but I would go back 100%. Thank you

Visited for the first time yesterday evening and had a fabulous meal served by lovely staff❣️ We opted for the fish platter for two which was yummy and very well prepared and the Portuguese white wine went perfectly. I own the shop at the top of the street, The Little Shop of Jules and constantly have customers in who rave about the place! It has taken us a while to get there but we will be back very soon 😊

No frills decor, reminds me of a lot of similar continental eateries, where the emphasis is not on pretentious presentation but rather on great quality fresh fish, cooked well and seasoned properly. Fantastic!

If you like seafood then you must visit, the name gives it away only seafood on the menu apart from the deserts. Good value for money although it’s not cheap, the CrabShack Fish Plate was delicious and on the specials board the Dover Sole was well received. The wine list is not extensive but has been well put together with wines to accompany sea food. Decor is as the name, it’s comfortable and relaxing place to eat with great helpful service from knowledgeable, honest and happy people. I will certainly be visiting again. 😊

Staff very friendly and attentive, booked for lunch they were busy. The chef’s special Gurnard was fantastic never having had Gurnard before I would highly recommend if it is on the menu. The atmosphere was relaxed and unhurried.

Went there for the first time today. The staff were friendly, efficient and attentive. We had the Crabshack fish plate for two. Loads of food for two people. Great variety and very tasty. Sardines came with our plate - not in the photo as I had already eaten them - Great value for money and we will definitely go back and recommend it to our friends.

Finally planned ahead and booked a table to ensure we could get in after 3 previous attempts to get in. It certainly didn’t disappoint, the menu isn’t huge but there is more than enough choice with some interesting dishes a little different to everyday seafood restaurant. The atmosphere is laid back with a nice cast away vibe. Attentive service without being oppressive and good recommendations. It’s not cheap but is good value for money and we will definitely be back to try more off the menu 😁

Always great food at very reasonable price considering the quality. All the staff make sure you are looked after well and will always spend time helping you decide on your meal. The specials are constantly changing according to availability and as far as possible all main ingredients are locally sourced. Hats are available for customers in the sun and if weather is cold blankets are supplied too. Lunch today was delicious and if you still have room the desserts are highly recommended. Especially the orange polenta cake. I could go on but I think you’ve got the picture. If you haven’t been yet then you’re missing out Make the CrabShack the next restaurant you visit. Food, service and atmosphere all still excellent however some of the prices are getting a bit out of control - £17 for a fish burger with no chips felt extortionate. I don't think they would charge those prices in London.

Probably the best seafood I've ever had in the UK. I had the grilled Hake and it was incredible. Handsomely sized portions will ensure even those with a large appetite will not leave hungry. Visited on a weekday lunchtime and it was busy, managed to call 20mins before to ensure there was a table and they managed to squeeze us in. Recommend booking if you love seafood. Awesomely placed for a post feed stroll on the seafront too.

Very overated. Cheap decor throughout, that is made to look, 'rustic'. Bathrooms have been put together as cheaply as possible with sanitary ware straight out of amazon. That would would be fine for a budget restaurant but not something charging the prices the crab shack does. Highly overpriced for the food, ambiance, service and location. Disappointment

Wife found this restaurant after we decided to visit Worthing for the day. Indoors was full but more than happy to find us room outdoors. A lovely selection on the menu and we ordered a few different things. All came well presented, tasted delicious and great portions so we struggled to finish. You can't go wrong for good seafood by coming here.
