Really large portions, the food is very tasty, the staff are caring and friendly and it's not heavy on your wallet!

I visited the Crab Shack today for lunch with a good friend having been recommended to try this Bistro by friends...Well, the word that springs into my mind is, WOW...What an enjoyable experience that really was...The Dressed Crab @ Accompaniments were Superb, the Staff were soooo lovely and we loved the Rustic feel about the place...Not Pretentious or Posh, but Relaxing @ Welcoming ~ I have already told a few People @ will definitely return !!

27th April 2025 When Mich promised me a bike ride in April as part of her Christmas-present series of monthly 2025 activities, neither of us was particularly convinced that struggling up hills at different paces was an enjoyable way to spend a day, but the only flat-ish option we could find that didn’t involve a train elsewhere I’d done before: cycling along the coast to Worthing. Conundrum. But when we realised we could pair the ride with a trip to the Crabshack, with tables available outside on what was forecast to be an unseasonably nice day, the prospect all of a sudden became a lot more exciting. In actuality, getting there was a big part of the day. The nice parts of the route along the seafront and particularly in and around Shoreham port as we pedalled and gossiped two abreast were very nice; the less nice bits along the roads and into the wind initiated the pleasant feeling of those first few pangs of hunger when you know you’ve got a decent meal to look forward to – and that justify ordering maybe slightly more than you would otherwise. It was also my birthday in a few days, so why not? We took a table on the edge of the restaurant’s tented outdoor patio, with the sea just about in view but sheltered from any passing pesky seagulls. The weather, the exercise, the welcome and the general mood of the day led us to a beer each as we perused the menu; there was a Jamaican stem ginger and rum sticky toffee pudding on the specials blackboard, also contributing to our all-round inducement to indulgence. We didn’t stand a chance. There were a couple of non-negotiables that we built our order around – the pil pil prawns and some kind of crab, obviously; you can’t visit a place with an eponymous speciality without trying it. Sharing everything, we went for crispy squid and a starter portion of the dressed crab, those prawns, the crabcakes, and skinny fries topped with… more crab. Oh, I also treated myself to a birthday oyster – the best of the weekend by a mile (sorry Petit Pois). It’s genuinely difficult to find a flaw in any of it. Everything tasted like it had taken its daily exercise at the same time that we did, swimming around in the sea as we rode alongside it, being caught and prepared as we locked our bikes up. Nothing was overthought either: the mix of white and brown crabmeat was perfect with just a dab of lemon mayo on a hunk of multigrain bread or with a forkful of salad leaf; the prawns – massive and of almost unprecedented texture – had infused just so with the tomato, chilli and paprika of their new red pond. The fries didn’t even need seasoning. The only critique I can come up with is a subjective reflection of my own tastes: the ratio of squid to batter was slightly unfishy for me; the pil pil sauce was heavier and therefore more of a main dish than you might find as a Spanish tapa (although if La Tasca had served prawns like these they’d definitely still be around); the crabcakes were simply my least favourite of the three crabby varieties we ordered – perhaps the least fresh-tasting on account of their preparation. We washed it all down with very strong cocktails, I blew out the candle on maybe the best STP I’ve ever tasted and, too full to cycle, we got the train back to Brighton. Bliss.

Absolutely fabulous but it was ruined by a customer puffing on a vape. In front of her child too. Not the restaurants fault the meal was amazing This was in the outside undercover area

What a fantastic lunch, to start with the weather was exceptional, the wind calm and the sun shining. The restaurant as usual had to be booked. It deserves to be, a true gem on the coast of Sussex, Worthing. The menu is a perfect selection of the best the sea has to offer. Always served with a friendly smile. The food comes out at a very sociable steady pace allowing for great family reunions or romantic dates. I can’t wait to return. Always leave room for the sticky toffee pudding. You won’t find better anywhere in the world.

Can't beat the Shack. Everytime I come it's bloody brilliant. Food is just spot on . It's busy and vibrant and the best seafood. The staff are just crazy attentive and buzzing around you and 'On It' . Well worth a visit you will not be disappointed.

Amazing amazing food, welcoming friendly and knowledgeable staff. Confident in their allergy handling - assured me of separate preparation and serving. Also DELICIOUS and beautifully presented. My son (the real foodie) and I were very happy indeed. Will return!

Delicious and great friendly service. We had prawn cocktails, dressed crab, Korean hake burger with kimchee, Jamaican sticky toffee pudding (insanely delicious), orange polenta cake and choc brownie- all excellent 👌🏻

Perfection. We shared the whole seabass with roast veg between the two of us. Absolutely lovely! Would whole heartedly recommend this place & will be planning a return visit soon. Very friendly, efficient staff with relaxed atmosphere.

I went here for lunch on Saturday after it was highly recommended by friends. The place was fully booked and had a lovely vibrant atmosphere. We struggled to choose from the menu as it all sounded fantastic. The food arrived quite quickly and was delicious. We will definitely be back

Cozy restaurant tucked into the end/beginning of the boardwalk. Reservations are a must, as this place has delicious food and everyone knows it. The outdoor seating has a wonderful view of the beach. The indoor seating is decently spaced out. The menu features a good variety of seafood, and the daily specials are a fantastic treat. If you are in a group, I would personally recommend ordering the Whole dressed crab and cockle & shrimp popcorn. It is absolutely worth it!

We loved this place - the service was efficient, friendly and attentive, and the food was very good. Had squid to start, which was really tasty, and my husband had the prawn cocktail - both were great and we ended up nicking half of each other's. The dressed crab for mains was lovely too. The portions are generous and we didn't have room for dessert! Highly recommended

I first tried to go to Crabshack to stop for a coffee or a drink just whilst I was on a walk and it was empty there but I was told I couldn’t do that….so I went back this time and I had the platter for two and overall it was tasty and different to something I’d eat usually.The fried fish pieces were great and the fish was all really nice..a little bit too saucy in my opinion with lots of it in different sauces. The chips weren’t good enough for a restaurant and for what you’re paying I think the bread should be better. It needed a little bit more finesse overall..What made it great was being outside sat with a lovely view of the sea. I think the service could have been better, the woman that seated us was a little bit cold and has others have commented perhaps a little stuck up. The rules about minimum spend per person which I’ve never seen in a restaurant before don’t really match its laid back wooden shack aesthetic

Superlative sharing platter with bonus of enjoying in spring sun on their front terrace.

The food was good and the service excellent but sadly I left this restaurant annoyed when I realised, after paying the bill, that we had been charged 50p for a small paper tub of mayonnaise that I requested to go with a side of chips. This is not a fish and chip takeaway - where I'd expect to pay extra for a sachet of mayo/tartare sauce. When you are in a restaurant spending £40-£50 each on dinner, I just think it outrageous to be charged for condiments. A real shame as we did enjoy our dinner, but that just really annoyed me!

Front of house/ waiter was not happy that we only wanted to order entrees and not drinks. Made us feel very uncomfortable. Ordered the Crispy Squid. Found the batter way too over powering and heavy leaving no taste of the squid. Didn't enjoy it at all to be honest. Keeping it simple with a light batter would be preferable. Old fashioned shrimp cocktail was very nice and fresh tasting.

Lovely food, just waitress was very “Stuck up”. Turned her nose up at the food we ordered like it wasn’t enough. Still spent almost £50 in an hour and it wasn’t quite enough for her. Wanted a lite bite for lunch & a vino with my other half and apparently that’s frowned upon!! Lovely food however and nice place, won’t stop us from visiting again however if we get the same attitude we probably will mention it to the manager.

Went here today for tge first tkme with my brother (he's treat) and sister. Lovely food ,fresh,good helpings,tge prawn cocktail the best I've had in a long while. Friendly staff ,our waiter was a pleasure. Will be returning very soon .

As a treat and Valentines date with my wife we chose our favourite restaurant, CrabShack. As usual, fantastic food ,service and atmosphere. Had prawn Cocktail to start with, then had the Korean Hake burger with fries whilst my wife had the Skate wing in a beautiful sauce and fries.

I have been before and have wonderful memories of it but today was the ultimate, I had the sea bream and I can’t get over how tasty it was. One of the best meals of my life. Service spot on. Couldn’t fault the whole experience

I've been following online for over a year and managed to book a table for my 50th birthday x didn't disappoint, had crab and fries, and my son had crevettes and shrimp and chiabatta Wonderful iced tea and honestly the best sticky toffee pudding I've ever had. Wonderful atmosphere and fabulous quick service!!

Went with some friends and what a great venue. It's not huge, so booking is a must and you may end up sitting outside, like we did. That's not an issue. Every table has a heater and blankets are provided. We shared oysters to start with and each had a dressed crab which was beautiful. It also comes with a generous portion of chips. The desserts sounded fantastic, but I can't eat a great deal, so as well as not finishing my main (that's on me, nothing to do with the venue I want to add) I could not eat any more. But if you get the chance, get one.

We went on a Friday lunchtime with our baby. The staff were so accommodating with space for our buggy and provided a high chair. They had a delicious tofu vegetarian option far superior than lots of non-fish restaurants! The crab cakes were so fresh and delicious. We'll be back!!!

Fantastic fresh fishy food! We went to CrabShack on a Friday evening and had one of the few remaining tables, which was in the bar area. The service was excellent, friendly and timely. The food was freshly cooked, extremely tasty and came out quickly too. We had popcorn cockles and shrimp, and crispy fried squid to start; both were perfectly cooked and delicious. For main I had the fish stew which was because the tables both sides of us had it before us and it had smelt amazing... it was! My wife had the smokey which was also fantastic. Overall, if you like seafood then CrabShack is definitely a restaurant to go to... Make sure you book!

My daughter and I had a wonderful lunch at the Crabshack. It was our first visit but will not be our last. The food quality, service, ambiance and dining experience was excellent.

The best seafood we have eaten for years. Everything on the menu sounded amazing and everything we selected to eat was fabulous. All the food was super fresh and expertly prepared. The Old School prawn cocktail was a trip down memory lane loaded with meaty prawns and crevettes’ and the packed crab cake starter was crabtastic with a great salsa. For mains we had the monkfish scampi with pea and mint puree and the fish stew, both were exceptional…..the service was friendly and smooth. We are already salivating about our next visit.

This was our second time here and it was as good as the first. It was a cold day but very warm and cosy in the restaurant. The service was excellent and as their was a sauce mentioned on the specials board we had not really heard of it was explained in detail of how it was made and what the taste would be like. We took our 10 year old niece who had a great time - she had the squid to start followed by the mussels and craby fries. Although not he cheapest place you will go the food was excellent - for me there was more than I could eat but for my husband and his brother they really enjoyed it and said the Turbot which was their main was very good. The staff were fab - certainly have no complaints and if we get back to Worthing will be going again. Overall a great experience on a cold and gloomy day - thank you

Great food, I had the prawn cocktail followed by the crab cakes. The staff were very friendly and the music was terrific.....80s classics!

I'll begin this by saying the staff were lovely, very attentive, and quick to help. If the review was just based on them, then 5* Now the food.. Ordered the prawns and cockles, along with the calamari for starters - prawns and cockles were good, nice light batter and enjoyable. The calamari, the batter was too heavy and slightly overcooked and had no flavour. Mains - ordered the special crab mac & cheese for £28.. this is an utter rip-off!! The size of the dish was what you would expect a side order of Mac and cheese to be. There were literally about 8 pieces of pasta in this dish (which ironically wasn't macaroni). The flavour was alright. amount of crab was OK, could have done with more meat. A real shame. And ordered the mussels for £18 - average size portion for the price. Mussels were good size and soft. Sauce was not good. Appreciate they were trying to do something a bit different by adding some other flavours in, but if they had stuck with good quality standard type white wine sauce, it would have been a much better dish that you would actually want to use the bread to soak up all the sauce after. Drinks - old fashioned, was nice and well balanced. Easy drinker. - white sangria, not to our taste. A real shame as we had wanted to visit this establishment for a couple of years

Went here last minute, after a 100 recommendations! Managed to get in on my birthday! Booked easily online. Staff were so friendly and welcomed us. The food did not disappoint! Prawn cocktails were divine and also the smoked salmon. We aren't lovers of big plates of food, so both had a couple of starters which were more than adequate! ( even had a takeaway box for later!) Food was so fresh and the menu varies depending on what the catch of the day is. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you!

What a great find! It's difficult finding a good seafood restaurant in the UK and this place does not disappoint. Great food, fresh ingredients, quick and friendly service. Very impressed and definitely will be back.

Shack is a fair description of what you see from the outside. And the decor inside follows the theme. The staff were friendly and knew their stuff. The food when it arrived was delicious and plentiful. It was full inside at 2PM and other people were still arriving so understandable why food took a while to arrive. Definitely will return, hopefully when its warmer and can enjoy the outdoor seats. Fair price for seafood.

Excellent food great place will definatley go again, returned once again and absolutely amazing, I had to update my review, the food is so delicious, they are very attentive, such a very nice place to go, loved sitting outside under cover with heaters, brilliant restaurant love the seafood, the shrimp and cockle popcorn never disappoints we will return as we always do.

How good it was! The cockle and shrimp popcorn is finger-licking good, I discovered the real taste of skate wing, and the fries (dipped in mussel juice at the end) were delicious. Efficient and smiling service too!

We visit crabshack a couple of times a year. Sometimes just as a couple, sometimes with other adults, sometimes with the children. Uniquely for a restaurant crabshack is equally suitable for all of these. The staff are absolutely incredible and always make you feel you have their full attention. They'll always have recommendations and are really accommodating of my partner's allergy. Our absolute favourite restaurant. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. (Recommend Sussex Smokey after a squid starter 🤌)

First time eating in at Crabshack, normally we eat on the terrace, but it was fantastic. Awesome soundtrack. Great food as always. Fantastic well prepared seafood but pricey.

Finally managed to get a table at this popular spot and now I understand why! Exceptional food and service in a rustic setting, we had the Sicilian-inspired fish stew which is probably the best dish we’ve had on the south coast so far, plenty of fish and seafood and more than enough ciabatta to mop up the broth — I came close to licking my plate.

Visited at lunchtime with family. The food was amazing and the portion sizes were generous. We ordered the smoked salmon, calamari, seafood stew, and kids fish and chips. Staff were brilliant and friendly. Only improvement was we waited quite a long time for the food. From sit down to food arriving we waited an hour.

Very overpriced food , most of the food we ordered there was little cooking involved, most served cold we did not get impressed at all ,as I am a chef myself,I eat out often. But very delightful waiter(ess)The only positive thing about this restaurant. I will not eat there again.

A Hidden Gem by the Sea I had never been to Worthing before, but I visited for a professional reason. After finishing my work, I decided to look for somewhere to eat before heading back to London. I parked by the seaside and enjoyed a short walk along the pebbled beach, taking some photos of seagulls, before coming across The Crab Shack, which looked very inviting. From the moment I entered, the staff were incredibly welcoming, making me feel at ease even though I was dining alone. I ordered the pan roasted whole brill with a lemon and caper butter sauce served with skinny fries : it was simply outstanding – reminiscent of the Dover sole and chips I often used to have as a child. The sauce was particularly wonderful, and I enjoyed it so much I wished I could have ordered a second portion! I would highly recommend The Crab Shack for its excellent food, friendly service, and lovely seaside location. The fresh produce really stood out. I visited in early October and was told it can get extremely busy in the summer, so I was fortunate to enjoy a quieter experience. Whether for lunch or any other meal, The Crab Shack is definitely worth a visit if you're in Worthing. For those you need to know, no dogs allowed.

How have we lived on the south coast for over three years and not eaten at this restaurant? Although not a particularly large menu there is plenty of delicious fare for anyone who likes seafood and nothing that we ordered disappointed. The food was well cooked, well presented and served in good time by staff who obviously cared about their customers. We will most certainly be visiting this restaurant again.

We were 9 women who after a dip came here for lunch. The service fantastic and the food sublime. No wonder this place is so busy

Myself and my partner have been coming here for the past 3 years for our date nights, special occasions, birthdays and anniversaries. This is our go to restaurant for fabulous seafood and wonderful atmosphere. It’s lovely that staff seem to remember us over the years despite perhaps only coming 2-3 times a year on average; they always warmly greet us as though no time has passed since our last visit and offer to place us at our ‘regular’ table at the head of the indoor seating area. It’s lovely, to come here for any situation. The food is always phenomenal. Seasonal changes to the menu and specials always piquing our interest (and tastebuds), but our go to favourites always seem to make a return to the menu which we appreciate too so we’re never left unsatisfied regardless of time of year/season. We highly recommend the crispy squid and cockle and shrimp popcorn for starters, and the korean gochujang hake burger for main. But equally everything we’ve ever had here has been a wonderful dining and taste experience. Don’t skip out on the cocktails and boozy puds too! We ever look forward to our next visit, we only wish we discovered this place sooner! 🦀❤️

When I visit my friend we will always book the crab shack as the food is to die for. We have never had a bad experience. This time I couldn't believe how expensive my bill was £116.05. We know the cost of the fish plate, but the price of the spirits were very very pricey. We had two drinks each. Posh Gin £23 a Diet Coke £5.50. Premium Spirit £17. Note the price of drinks before ordering. Had I known we were getting Posh and Premium spirits I wouldn't of chose those. How can you justify these prices. Especially Coke come on for that price I could of purchased at least 3 litre bottles from even the most expensive supermarkets.

The food was very nice as always. The ‘old school’ prawn cocktail was delicious. The crispy squid portion seemed smaller this time. We were asked if I would like ketchup or mayo for fries. Having answered yes to mayo - a tiny amount appeared in a little paper cup. This was ok but to then be charged an extra 50p on the bill was a joke. Surely this should be included in the service to customers. Little things like this take the edge of a nice meal and quite unnecessary I think

We recently visited the CrabShack and I must say, it was delightful. I am not a sea-food person by any means however, the CrabShack managed to change that with their exquisite ways of preparing & delivering their food. I could have gone for a swim in the atlantic ocean & joined the array of sea-life shortly after consuming the platter they offer on their menu. A friend recommended we visit and boy are we glad we did. Great food matched with caring service.

Having read reviews and as a lover of all seafood, we arrived looking forward to a nice lunch. Our waitress ( and the waiter who brought our orders) were lovely. Our starters of Crispy Squid and Prawn Cocktail were nice, as was our bottle of house white. My wife ordered the prawns and crevettes as a main and I ordered the Sicilian Fish Stew. My wife enjoyed her main and the flavours of the fish stew were great. However, the stew, advertised in the menu as ‘packed with prawns, crevettes and surf clams, actually consisted of three of each, as well as the bream fillet. I mentioned this to the waitress ( without causing a fuss) and she said that she would tell the owner. We finished our meal and wine and despite being in the restaurant for another 20-30 minutes, nobody came to discuss my feedback. We paid our bill and left feeling disappointed and not valued as customers. Unlikely to return

The food was good worth the try

The fish platter is sensational, great variety, wonderful flavours and most importantly you can taste how fresh the fish is! This is a special treat for fish lovers and excellent value, be warned the platter is huge! Friendly and welcoming service, with a relaxed vibe, a very enjoyable evening out in Worthing. Great selection of drinks too, specially the cocktails!

Went out for lunch with my family, this is a great place to hind away from the sun. The food tasted well seasoned and fresh, uplifting atmosphere and friendly staff. Nothing special but would still recommend.👍🏼

We have been here a few times, this last visit was our first for lunch. Generally good food here, service on this occasion not quite up to usual standard, one of servers was a bit off. I tried the Korean haddock burger as it sounded like a good lunch option, it was generous which made it a bit challenging to eat as a burger, very nice seeded bun, the sauce did make it a bit squelchy to eat, and it was too sweet for my liking.

I remember the Proclaimers song - I would walk five hundred miles. Well I would walk a jolly long way for the Crispy Squid. Absolutely delightful. Jacob served table and he did an excellent job. He is just perfect for this happy warm restaurant. Great food, great fun and a beautiful way to spend an hour or two.

Got told to move on as we only wanted drinks and they had ‘lots of bookings’. 8 empty tables and would only have been 30 mins so very short sighted and frankly quite rude, therefore glad not to give them our hard earned cash! We won’t darken their door again…PS DOES SAY ‘BEACH BAR’ ON FACE OF ESTABLISHMENT AND ONLY A DRINKS MENU ON TABLE!!!

I went on my own for lunch , I was welcomed in and altho i hadnt booked they found me a table . The food was exceptional , so fresh and tasty I will def go back even tho I live two and a half hours away!

The food was good the owner was brash and dismissive .. I asked for crispy chips and he said they always are ! They weren’t and I kindly mentioned it, I was ignored! Disgraceful and Charging £45 for lobster, I rest my case.. insult to injury he was carrying a large tray up high with 3 full glasses, he got distracted and dropped the tray. He said it was the wind! The drinks fell next to me and lumps of ice on the floor. I’m disabled and walk with a cane, lumps of ice around my feet and they took so long to clear it all up. I could’ve slipped. He looked down looking if I got splashed and again dismissed what happened and no apology told me I was fine. My jeans and shoes were wert he walked away after he said he didn’t see anything.WOW I will NOT be going there again. I feel vindicated. It ruined my lunch out this is about the owner and my experience.
