Crab and Lobster in North Norfolk

There are more elegant places to enjoy the seafood bounty of North Norfolk, yet none with fresher produce or as friendly and relaxed.

Lovely , good food , good service , we did arrive at a quite time , I imagine summer time and weekends the restaurant and outside area would be heaving ,nice.

Ordered the large platter which was absolutely incredible, each element delicious, and when broken down is really decent value. The staff also made adjustments for allergies and food preferences which was appreciated. Well worth a visit!

We were in what they call the bar area which is very basic and quite noisy. Can’t fault the food though which was excellent

Rocky bottoms was a great lunch spot after a stroll along the beach. The food was extremely tasty, the lobster was out of this world. The service was fabulous and the fact we could take our dog in as well was really helpful.

Upmarket place to eat. To expensive for us.

Found this restaurant by chance as we were driving on the coastal road and so glad we did. Although we hadn't booked, we were able to have a seat outside which was very pleasant. We were given blankets as it was a little chilly which I thought was a nice touch. The service was really good with friendly genuine staff. The food choice was great and when our meals arrived they were really tasty and good size portions. The prices aren't cheap but offer good value for what you get in terms of quality and quantity as well as the service and location. We will definitely be returning.

I had the best fish and chips I’ve ever tasted, and my wife’s half lobster and salad was equally fantastic. The location is stunning, but be sure to book early. We were lucky to get a table during the off-season. Everything is super fresh – straight from sea to plate in a day, with a strong focus on ethical and responsible fishing practices. Rocky Bottoms is steeped in history, starting as an 1800s brick kiln and now a celebrated local favourite thanks to the Matthews family’s hard work. Richard, a local fisherman for 40+ years, fishes responsibly, ensuring sustainable crab and lobster stocks. The seafood is prepared on-site by skilled ‘dressers,’ a local craft over 100 years old. The restaurant run by chef Alison is committed to supporting the local community by sourcing ingredients from nearby businesses and reducing their carbon footprint. Additionally, a 13% discretionary service charge is applied to all bills and shared fairly among staff. Food was incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed the garlic lobster & my OH had the small platter - it was huge!!! Highly recommend! Dog friendly too🐶 Local family business that we had visited once before but it was probably 8 years ago. But we knew the food would be to a high standard. The father & son fish daily for the Crab & Lobster. The daughter is head chef with a friendly & helpful crew backing them up.

An amazing meal have left feeling completely full. A light and airy restaurant with very talented staff. We loved the fact it was dog friendly.

Excellent food, excellent service in a setting that's somewhere between comfortable, quirky and themed. Overlooking the sea, you can be sure you're in for a great view if the weather is good, otherwise you may be better inside where there is further seating.

Very expensive for 3 grandchildren and myself, and then they added 17%! They did say did I want to pay it and the service had been good and I did not want staff to be penalised.

Drinking Glass AND cuttlery all dirty with food particles and my glass had black food particles stuck to it right on the rim where you drink from! Took server 45minutes to take our order & then never came back! We got our meals almost *another whole hour later and they were delivered quickly by somebody else, who quick dropped our plates off and ran back inside. It was 2: PM and place was not busy there at this time. Then, our lobster was just a HALF of a TINY tail each!!! The body just had a smear of sauce on it to look nice and as if you were getting a whole half lobster, but underneath it was just those thin shell-like chambers with NO meat!! For THAT price, (£64.50) there should have atleast been it's claws or the full tail or both!! Such a tiny thing, what a disappointment coming from a few hours away just for THIS!!! We couldn't believe it. Not happy with the food, service nor DEAR amount we paid!! Then, it was another 45minutes, no servers came to check on us, offer us sauces, ask if we would like dessert OR to even give us our bill!! We have already been there for over two+ hours, so we decided to finally go inside to the front and pay. THEN, the girl taking the money asked if we'd like to add on an £8 service fee to our already disgusting bill!!!!!! FOR WHAT*** SERVICE?! UNBELIEVABLE!! What a major disappointment. 😤

Nice food in a very pretty location. We had heard great things about this place, however it was just a nice place to eat, not a must visit. Unfortunately, they didn't have oysters when we went, which was one reason to visit. The platter was nice but very expensive for the amount. The fish and chips were tasty enough. Dessert again was very expensive for the size. Glad we tried it but unlikely to visit again due to the cost to portion ratio

Lovely Sunday Lunch of Lobster, fries and salad. I had the thermidor, wife had the Thai . Both thoroughly enjoyed. Not the largest 1/2 lobsters but am no not an expert to know what to expect? 😊 Orchard Pig cider very refreshing. Good GF awareness and provision. Shame only coffee available is. "cafetière" All staff friendly and attentive. No Good luck to a local enterprise.

A wonderful place to eat freshly caught seafood. Couldn't fault our visit in any way. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, we didn't have to wait ages, food was divine. Extremely keen to recommend..

The food is very. I had the best fish ever on a fish and chips menu. Absolutely fresh and the dough not too thick. The cider (local) is fruity and not too bitter. Even though we didn't have a table reservation, we were seated immediately.

A must visit place for food and location. Fish dishes are super tasty. Even a simple salad had such a delicious dressing with it! Fish was very fresh and treated very well. Highly recommend this place. We tried spicy ramen with prawns which was very spicy (how we wanted it), grilled haddock and calamari starter with salmon fish cake. Every dish was tasty and had a unique flavour. Staff is very polite, attentive and friendly.

Great food she service. I had the half lobster with Thai style sauce which was delicious. There's a lovely outdoor seating area and plenty of parking.

Enjoyed the garden sitting on one of the outdoor tables. The seafood was incredible, so fresh and well presented. Would definitely recommend if you enjoy seafood. Make sure to book if you want a table inside it gets super busy.

I am so glad I popped in to rocky bottoms today on my way home, treated myself as its Friday to the half lobster salad which cost £27 and was absolutely delicious and worth every penny whilst looking over at the sea, I ordered my beer at the bar then sat In the garden and the staff were out within a few minutes taking my order, they were all very friendly and smiling! I will definitely be going back soon with my girlfriend for a date as its such a cool, clean peaceful place, very good vibes and such a beautiful view. Thank you guys see you again, sorry for the wobbly photo was to eager to get stuck in Gary

The best time to visit is in good weather so you can sit outside and enjoy the seafood and seaview at the same time

Rocky Bottoms saved the day ! My son and family are over from Canada. We were at West Runton my Grandsons busy catching crabs, shrimps ect in the rock pools 🤗 I popped down to Rocky Bottoms for takeaway chips/fries they were delicious 😋 Thanks Rocky Bottoms

this was a very nice lunch - seafood platter sounds expensive at £97 but there was plenty for us (4 adults and three kids). i think it was reasonable value - service was very good and friendly smiling staff. They brought the bread and butter quickly as we requested because the kids were getting Hangry 😀. big field for the kids to play in after lunch whilst the adults finished off the rosé! Holiday treat!

Love this place regularly buy lobsters and crabs from their shop and have been in their very nice restaurant the food was delicious with a nice relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very helpful and polite. Would 100% recommend if you like your seafood

Delicious food and reasonably priced. All staff were friendly, welcoming and polite. Service was fast. Would definitely go again if in the area.

Tables were dirty, the floor needed sweeping, cutlery needed changing as it was smeary with food. Order came with cheese even though it was requested without and we had to wait for it to be remade, no sides came out even though they were ordered with the mains. Table water ordered with initial drinks however the service staff needed reminding a further two times. We had to request a finger bowl for the prawns. And at no point was we asked how the meal was or if we needed more drinks. Overall not impressed and felt really let down for an experience that we had waited for so long and for such a special occasion having travelled for over two hours.

Our family have eaten here a couple of times and it has always been excellent. I am a Coeliac and my daughter has a dairy and gluten intolerance and so finding somewhere that can cater for us can be tricky. That was not a problem here - nearly all of the menu was available to us. The quality of food, the service, everything was perfect.

Manager deserves credit for a great experience and a brilliant level of customer service. Plus excellent food!

Arrived at 3.45pm to be told in a stern unwelcoming manner that food isn't served until 5pm but we could have a drink if we wanted too. A party of 6 arrived at 4pm and drinks for them arrived within minutes followed by the waitress taking their food order... Needless to say this put us right off staying for anything to eat as we were made to feel like we weren't the clientele they wanted to attract. My disabled wife had been looking forward to dining here all week but was looked down upon by a waitress, this caused her to become very upset so after a drink we left to find somewhere where we felt more welcome. Avoid unless you're in the clique ! !

Try the roasted sandwiches and the sausage rolls both very tasty.

This is an absolute must go to if you are the area and like seafood...superb food, excellent view of the sea and very friendly helpful staff. We ate fish and chips, crevettes, fishcakes and squid, it was all delicious. It even has a fishmongers in the car park!

A super place for a Sea Food Meal. You can also by Lobsters, Crabs, Oysters, Prawns and other delights from their well stocked shop... The owner is a delightful man and very, very helpful. As he sorted me out with some lovely Oyster Shells, to be honest, I would like some more to make hanging arrangements for gardens if he's interested in supplying me with more?? All the very best governor! (Sorry that I do not have your name!)

This is one of my favourite restaurants to visit when I'm in Cromer. The food is amazing, staff so helpful and efficient. The views of the fields and sea are lovely too. Lovely walk to see the sea from there too. We went for lunch, 2 families and there's a big grass area for the children to play on. The crab was delicious and the garlic bread is the best in the world. Along with the Leon posset my hubby tells me. Defo worth a visit. We highly recommend.

Everything about rocky bottoms is 5 star ,set in a beautiful place

First time visiting today for my brother's 50th Birthday. Absolutely wonderful place, not only a great location with stunning views and a big garden area to enjoy it, but friendly helpful staff and most importantly amazing food, big portions and the fish could not have been fresher. Also dog-friendly. Well worth a visit.

Good friendly service. Excellent food: simple and tasty. A gem set nicely between Sheringham and Cromer.....fab views of the sea, and of the coastal path.

The food was excellent and the service matched it & I am hard to please. Go expecting fish as it’s a fish restaurant however they do a Thai green curry that looked amazing. It was also spotless and interesting outside too. Very dog friendly and spacious for big parties. Great venue and easily accessible from the coastal walk from Sheringham- about 40 mins

I took my wife for dinner today at Rocky Bottoms, and we were both thoroughly impressed with every single detail of this restaurant. The staff were 1st class, polite, and extremely helpful. The timing of the service was just perfect, not too fast that you felt rushed and not too slow where you're starting to wonder if you've been forgotten about. The choice on the menu was good & the flavours of the food were exquisite. Just the right temperature for the meal being served. All of our dishes were really well presented & prices were fair for this quality of food. I genuinely can't praise this restaurant highly enough, and if I could add stars, I would. We had been to Sheringham today and noticed this restaurant on our way so decided to call on our way back. Had a lovely meal of fishcakes with fries and salad and my husband had half lobster with fries and salad. It was delicious and the staff serving are all 😍 lovely. One young lady server gave our dog a treat and she was telling us about her rabbit. Thank youxx

This was our first visit for a meal since living in the area for 2 years. We wish we'd gone sooner! A fantastic menu that caters for all tastes, really lovely staff, attentive service and a beautiful location. The food was delicious! We really enjoyed our experience.

We come here every summer we're back from Aus. Great food and great for kids with the fab open space and access to the beach! Love it

Delicious food, beautiful setting and friendly staff. We had salt and pepper squid, and an astonishing fresh crab salad. The latter was spectacular in its simplicity: the quality of ingredients was excellent and this is what you need on a plate! Highly recommend. We went there by public transport: easy to get to from West Runton station, just 10 mins walk or so.

Generally, the food is good, but it can be patchy. If you order correctly, you may get an excellent dish, or you may be unlucky in your choice. Service is excellent.

Never visited when we were here a couple of years ago despite being recommended by family & driving past numerous times. Ensured we visited this time around and we weren't disappointed. Friendly welcome & managed to get us in despite no booking. Toddler loved her fish & chips, my lobster was delicate & sweet, the thermidor sauce indulgent, fries spot on & salad light fresh. I tried the fish cake and that was delicious too. Great little spot and will be visiting next time we are in the area

Really good food,a breath of fresh air at the coast as far as seafood goes.All good quality and well sourced food.We enjoyed the atmosphere and the excellent service.

Staying in the area, we drove around looking for somewhere for a quick lunch and happened upon this gem. We chose a table in the huge sunny garden that overlooks the sea and studied the menu. A server came for our drinks order and they were swiftly dispatched. Our food came in no time and was piping hot, delicious and huge portions. I went for the crab linguine and it was tremendous The chilli and lime flavours were an excellent addition to the crab. My wife went for fish and chips which was served with peas and homemade tartare sauce. She said the fish was amazing, and the chunky triple cooked chips were crunchy and sprinkled in sea salt. We sat there for a lot longer than we'd planned as it was such a lovely spot. We didn't see the inside, but outside there were a number of different seating areas to choose from, including a tent area in the shade. There was also a scattering of 'Rocky Bottoms' deck chairs to lounge in too.

We went to Cromer on holiday and wanted some crab that they are famous for. And Rocky Bottoms delivered. The food was fresh and delicious.

This place is fabulous. Went today for lunch with 3 adults and two children. We sat inside but there was plenty of outdoor seating which was pretty full even though it was raining on and off. Had a lovely little walk with the kids while waiting for our food which was absolutely amazing. The dessert was equally fantastic. It has a lovely vibe and the staff were brilliant. So helpful and friendly even though they were super busy and totally rushed off their feet. Can't wait to visit again.
