Unfortunately no longer possible to buy from them direct as they are no longer retail, only wholesale. The site needs updating

I love Cowburns suffice to say I can eat a loaf in short measure. It's proper bread with a fantastic structure. Highly recommended

First class artisan bakery led by Richard who is passionate about baking high quality artisan products. We buy teacakes, croissants, potato cakes and bread from here at weekend. Highly recommend the date and walnut bread as well as the seeded jenny.

One of the best bakers in the north west. Definitely worth a visit if you are peckish and nearby.

This is my local bakers and my first choice for bread. I can recommend the Jenny Wren, but all the bread is excellent and after this supermarket bread just won't do anymore! The bakery is primarily focused on trade sales, opening to the public on Thursdays, Friday's and Saturdays. The bakery opens very early and is usually sold out by lunch time, so it's often a case of getting their reasonably early and buying my bread for the week, take it home cool it on the racks and then freeze what we won't eat over the weekend. The tea cakes are a personal favorite. Also offers cakes and pies and availability tends to follow what Rick wants to bake or make around the core loaves. Great place.

Popped in this morning to get some bread and tried some of their cakes. Super little shop. I have been getting Cowburns bread for quite a number of years but used to get it from a shop they supplied which now very sadly has shut down, This was my first visit to their actual premises. Well worth the visit and lovely to catch up.

The bread is true artisan, substantial excellent texture and flavour. A must stop off for true bread. Reminds me of great bread I bought in Italy & France.

Arrive early as they sell out fast! High Lane cakes(I use the term lightly) as similar to Eccles cakes but bigger, fuller and far tastier. Love the chocolate delights, egg custards etc etc We haven't eaten anything from this shop that we haven't loved and gone back for more. Must try his bread too, tastes as bread ought to taste!!😀

Cowburns bake the very best bread! The patisserie selection is also exceptional - I take a box of cakes to work now and again and they are incredible - works of art in a box! They generally get cut up because we can't bear to just taste one. Finally - the hot cross buns are worth waiting a year for. Utterly delicious. And I can't seem to leave without some cheesy potato cakes - so good.

This is Richard Cowburn's second bakery in High Lane as he outgrew the first. His bread is made in a traditional artisan process that preserves and brings out the full flavour. Pastries and cakes are all made to a high standard and are very popular with his customers, some who travel a distance to buy his products. He also supplies some local businesses. His approach to business deserves the success he has achieved.

We're lucky to have an artisan bakery in the village and the range of bread and cakes is of the highest quality. The wholegrain in particular is worth singling out as probably the best bread I've ever tasted. Superb.

I live in the Peak District, some ten miles from The Cowburn Artisan Bakery. Everytime I come within a couple of miles of High lane, it's straight to this unique and very special bakers. The bread all baked fresh on the premises, just like a Boulangerie in Paris. The owner dressed like a "chef d' atelier. A very friendly welcome here! Thanks so much for the Attention to detail.

A bakery where the bread takes centre stage though the pastries are not far behind. The queue on a Saturday Morning is testament that the locals make the effort to get the bread before it’s gone,a bit like the French do. The bread is not over salted and you can even get spelt bread. Richard the baker does go off piste sometimes with his bread making; fortunately he knows what he is doing. The bread is the best around Stockport I have found, so well worth a visit.

The best brekkie on the planet. And they sell booze as well as a cuppa. Now visit infrequently as we live 30 miles away. Many happy memories from when we were Heatonians. Also a great place for a take-out to be eaten on the way to the golf club on a Sunday morning.

Still great, used to be excellent, presume new owners but no complaints
