Very nice, cosy restaurant. Food was out superfast, massive portions , hot and tasty. The chips are to die for. Service was okay, didn't go over and beyond, but couldn't fault it.

Getting old has some advantages 😁 ie the Pensioners Fish Tea for the very affordable price of £12.95 👍A perfect portion of Haddock chips and mushy peas with a thick slice of bread and butter ...I got a good two cups of delicious tea out of a pot and they didn't skimp on the tartare sauce 😋 Nice acoustic covers of Rock ballads playing and friendly, efficient staff too 💕,best meal out in a long time 👏 If you are ever in Berwick on Tweed I highly recommend this lovely dog friendly Fish and chip restaurant 😋💖💕Bev xxx

We had the very tasty pensioners fish supper last night and the battered sausage & chips. Great service and lovely restaurant and we popped our springer spaniel under the table to relax. Altogether good value, great experience, friendly staff! Would definitely recommend!!

We visited the takeaway as it advertises gluten free as I am Coeliac. We were stood waiting and a young lady asked if what we wanted and before I could answer she went to do something else. When we was finally served I asked if they were doing gluten free and the reply was "no", I asked if the chips were fried separately to everything else which the reply was "no l, the chips are fried in the same frier as the fish and sausage". How can you advertise gluten free when you are cross contaminating the food?

I have had a lot of different chippies all over the UK and some have been amazing but this one was on another level. The fish was outstanding. The chips were cooked perfectly. The curry source I don't even know where to start with that but it was amazing. I had a Scotts pie with it too and it was the best one I have ever had. Overall it was unreal, I will definitely be going back tomorrow or over the weekend. Thank you very much to the staff there too

It was OK, chips were OK, service was OK, my Fish just did not taste fresh, I eat a lot of Fish and Chips, this was definitely average at best.

We went in here for a late lunch as the place was dog friendly, I must say that the food was fantastic, I had the burger, a real burger not a cheap fatty thin served in a real bun and lovely home made chips, my wife had fishcake and was ore than satisfied with the 2 that came. Then there was the fish sandwich that my daughter (25) had, it was a lovely piece of fish 3 times the size of the bun, she couldn't manage to eat all of her meal. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Chips were ok. Fish was a solid grey lump and definitely not haddock First impression will be my last as I won't be back

After being asked to wait to be seated it took 10 minutes to get our food ordered , we ordered chips and chip butty and when they come the chips were dry and bun was toasted , could've been an option to have toasted or not in which I wouldn't have wanted , charged £2.80 for a standard 500ml irn brew which you can get anywhere for less than £1.50 , for a chip butty chips and 2 over priced irn brews it came to nearly £15! Wouldn't have minded if the food. Service was good

Had take-away fish and chips, some of the best I’ve had. They also had gluten free options for a family member of mine and I couldn’t taste the difference. Loved it, can’t wait for the next round.

Chips on their own £3.50, chips with cheese £5.60 🤷, staff were nice and friendly chips ok but an extra £2.10 for some cheese on chips is extortionate

We visited the restaurant for lunch as we were on a day trip in the North East, the restaurant wasn’t that busy. We sat outdoors I. The back yard enjoying the lovely summer weather. We made the order of soup of the day (which came very fast) and fish and chips which took some time to arrive and few drinks. The portion is quite big with 2 large pieces of fish and plenty of chips. The fish itself was quite oily, I know it’s deep fried but there was a bit extra oil. And the external layer around the fish was extra think and not that delicious!! The meat of the fish was quite nice, while the chips were not. The soup of the day was parsnips and chilli which was nice and tasty. The claim of the restaurant being the best fish and chips in the North East is quite a stretch, we definitely had better over the years in several other restaurants.

What a brilliant find in Berwick on Tweed. A lovely fish restaurant and dog friendly as well. Cod, chips and peas, with bread and butter and a pot of tea for £12.95 - beautifully cooked and presented. I’d also like to say what brilliant service we received from Ellie and her colleagues. Treats and a water bowl for my dog too. Said to be the finest in the North East and I’d agree with that.

My families last night in Berwick we decided to go for a dinner in town and stumbled upon Coulls. We were absolutely blown away with atmosphere and aesthetics of the place to begin with. The servers where friendly and attentive, with food being brought out not long after ordering. The portion sizes where huge and piping hot. The food was cooked beautifully and was fresh as well. I had the baked potato with cheese and beans, I was delighted with the food! It was soft and buttery and completely filling. We were staying at the Haven park and would recommend the short walk into town for the fantastic food from Coulls over the Cooks chippy in the actual park. Coulls should be very happy and proud of their business as being from Scotland, I would happily take the train down often just for Coulls!

Best meal we have had since coming to Berwick, highly recommend it.

Popped in as we were passing through to Glasgow. Walked up the street and found this restaurant. So glad we walked in. Great service , fast and with a smile. The food was delicious and great serving sizes. Loved the fish cakes. Great find !!!

Was in today for the first time, i ordered the jumbo cod and chips with x2 mushy peas, my girl had half pizza and chips, swear to god i thought i had a battered shark on my plate, fish simply the best fish i have ever tasted, chips were lovely to along with the pizza. We have had fish n chips in or around berwick/ haggerston 3 times out of the last 12 days, all the fish so small not cooked well, the fish will blow your sock's off, if you are in berwick and miss this place, you have made one hell of a mistake. I got the jumbo fisn n chips, if you eat small just get the normal one, your tastebuds will thank you for it. Will be back before we go home.

On a day out to Berwick we returned to this lovely fish and chips restaurant for lunch.We had the pensioners special,fish and chips,mushy peas,bread and butter and a pot of tea.Very good portion of fish and chips.Next time we go to Berwick will definitely be returning..

Fantastic Fish and chips . A more than Ample portion and the Battered Haddock we had was very very tasty and perfectly cooked . Very pleasant waitress who didn't even need to write down our order and still got it spot on. Highly recommend.

Disappointing. Had the best star rating in the town but the fish must have been sat a while before me ordering, wasn't the best. Chips were really nice and service great and friendly.

I'm sorry to have to post this review, as this place is my local chippy and is usually top notch. Last night 7th April, was one to forget. Having asked for a fish supper with a half portion of chips, it arrived as usual with a mountain of chips. Worse was to come tho, the batter was as crispy as ever, unfortunately the fish was dry, overcooked and had spent far too long in the hot cabinet... On top of that, I was feeling pretty ill this morning. Up til now this place has been my go to chippy, sadly I'll think twice next time. A pity.

Fish & Chips are just superb. Brilliant quality. Homemade soup was also fantastic. Lovely atmosphere and restaurant beautifully decorated.

Overly expensive for sit in, £6 extra just for the privilege, no thanks. Walked out. Ship Inn in Eyemouth actually cheaper and no doubt better, keep ripping off the tourists.

Small menu in shop lists a three / four items that can be made gluten free on certain days, thankfully the day I visited was one of those. Food was tasty, price was as expected. Cannot complain!

I rarely put up any reviews but avoid this restaurant at all costs. We tried different meals. The breaded and battered haddock were dry and hard and fish and chips both tasted of old, dirty chip fat, the smoked sausage was barely warm and the staff were unfriendly. To top it off we paid over £50 for the privilege of leaving our plates full of food. Honestly the worst fish and chips I have ever had.

A trip to Coulls is the highlight of any trip to Berwick. The food is consistently exquisite. Service is always great. Ellie was the stand out waitress today.

Popped in on our way home from a home in Eyemouth. Lovely atmosphere and nice and quiet (although it was a Sunday evening) Food was fantastic and really worth the money. Portion sizes were generous and we both thoroughly enjoyed what we had. Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area

What a great chippy. We came Tuesday and the kids voted today for chippy rather than KFC. Great portions and the fish and chips were tasty. We will call again when we’re back up here

Truly rubbish if they reckon they are the best then they paid for that title Chips were either massive and not cooked or so thin thery were cooked to a crisp. Cooking oil was scarce back along its because this lot used it all as a swimming pool for there spam fritters so soaked in oil I had to chuck them if you use one bit of advice in your life use this stay away from this place.

Service in the restaurant a little slow

This was an unexpected surprise. This restaurant wasn't kitted out with plastic tables and chairs as I've experienced with other fish and chip places! It was tastefully decorated, the service was friendly and efficient and the food delicious. Very generous portions too. We will return when we're in the area.

Good little fish and chip shop. Had haggis and chips. Lovely chips and haggis was just wonderful. Service was good but a bit strict on where you sit. Pricey food but you pay for good food.

We are here on holiday. As treat we had fish and chips to take away, We had haddock and chips and a cod. All was freshly cooked to order. We couldn’t finish them all but our dogs loved what we’d left. Would highly recommend this fish shop.

Good quality food perhaps a bit expensive

Family of 10 visiting Berwick regularly. Fish was good but at best thats it. Shocked at how bad the curry sauce and seevice was. Too quick. Shop should take its time and worry less about gross profit.

Truly awesome portions and fresh fish n chop. And the only place north of newcastle where they have hot chilli sauce. I would eat here again. Wonderful!

Lovely fish n chips sat on old walls overlooking sea to eat..

Our first visit to Coulls chippy, myself and my mum were visiting Berwick. Mum got fish and chips (wasn't any haddock, though cod was fine), they gave us a extra half fish even though the main one was perfectly fine. I got Jumbo sausage and chips, the sausage was Huge! We drove back 10/15mins and both suppers were still hot. Mum thoroughly enjoyed hers, and mine was very good indeed! Can't really find a negative other than that they don't have proper chippy sauce.. Would definitely recommend, and will definitely return next time we're a wee bit hungry in Berwick. 4/5 🖖

We come here often and have never had a bad fish, chips are good to but for h avens sake don't order a deep fried pizza just ask for one of the takeout trays and some oil They have a good turn over so it's all hot and fresh from the fryer but your honetly better ordering for one than for two, you'll get nearly the same portion and it'll cost you half as much As with seemingly all chippies these days the vinegar is weak and your better off using your own

The food in this restaraunt was amazing!..the portion size and quality was well worth the money :) the only thing that let this lovely place down was the service the two girls that were on were miserable as sin and could clearly see they did not want to be there there! We witnessed one of the girls in particular be so rude and ignorant to other customers it was cringing its the only thing that would put you off going back which is a shame as the food is 10/10

Yet again fantastic service from the staff. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and some of the best facilities stunningly clean toilets. Great value and crunch batter. Lovely white fish & fresh salad on side. Sides could be bigger for the price. But the quality or the food is great. Always a pleasure to visit when un Berwick.

Waited ages for order taking and food. Had pensioners special, had to ask for my bread, which unfortunately was a slice of supermarket bread, not real bread. My tea got cold before food arrived. Small portion for huge price of £11.99. Chips were absolutely awful. Will not return. Young girl staff having a bad day.

Excellent service and fantastic fish and chips five stars

Excellent fish in a light crispy batter. Chips were slightly dry but proper chip shop chips, not from frozen. Service quick and friendly, happy to correct a small mistake with our order (battered sausage arrived without batter and was fixed immediately)
