Return visit on 05/10. I absolutely love this restaurant. Firstly, the food here is as authentic as you could possibly get, the smoked mackerel croquettes are absolutely sublime, not too strong, with a great flavour and just holding together perfectly, these were so good in fact, I ordered another lot after the main course. The diablo pizza is also amazing, with the spicy sausage and hot honey, all backed up with seriously authentic pizza base, just wow. Main was the chicken milanese for me, and yet another fantastic offering, beautifully crispy outer, cooked perfectly chicken with a lovely cheese centre, just awesome. To finish, the Bonet is lovely, rich, and has a decadent feel to it, simply stunning. Secondly, seriously good cocktails, they've got some great mixologists here! And finally but the by far the best reason, the staff, there is such a personal service from all involved to ensure you enjoy your food, drink and the atmosphere, it's great, massive thanks out to Eli, Jojo, Alice, Lonin (magnificent beard 😉) and Hannah, there is another mixologist I can't recall as the cocktails got the better of me, sorry. Simply the most authentic Italian good, with absolutely first class service, I will be back, promise, not a threat 😆

Fantastic evening. We don’t go out much. Dad, Mum & Daughter-in-law. We visited for cocktails and a bite to eat. 5 star in every way. Such a happy place to be. Maisey, Hannah, Anna & Jo-Jo. The cocktails were the best, the food was amazing and the service and the welcome was beyond 5 star. Highly recommend. This is the place to go in Hereford if you want to walk out feeling wowed and well looked after. Absolute professionals at what they do with a feel good factor on offer. It’s a must visit.

I booked the restaurant for a family meal and was a bit concerned about how it would be having read other reviews on this site. However, I need not have been concerned as we had a great experience. We received a warm welcome and were immediately shown to our table. The restaurant was busy and had a good atmosphere. Our orders were taken promptly and our starters arrived quickly. The portions were very generous and the food was delicious. There was a slight delay before our main courses arrived, but the staff kept us advised throughout and explained that they were experiencing issues with the pizza oven. We were not concerned as we were enjoying our evening and when the food arrived it was really tasty and, again, the portion sizes were generous. We had a great evening and will definitely return.

We chose to book here for our date night whilst staying in the area and was not disappointed. Lovely atmosphere, even better food and the best aperol spritz I’ve ever had from a restaurant. Everyone was super friendly and attentive and the service was quick considering how busy it was. Would definitely recommend Cotto to anyone visiting the area.

Good food but make sure you go hungry as portions are very generous. Has a real Italian feel to the place. Service is friendly and timely. You won’t break the bank and they don’t automatically add a service charge so you can tip appropriately. Full marks all round, we will definitely return.

Such a warm, friendly place. Staff are professional and knowledgeable, as well as being really lovely. Clientele reflected this welcoming atmosphere - all ages represented. We were visiting Hereford for 2 nights and ate there both nights following our great experience on the first night. If anything, the food on evening 2 was even better. Beautifully balanced pasta sauces, and arancini which were so much better than any we'd eaten before. Even the pesto was in a class of its own. Great Italian wines and gorgeous cocktails. Would recommend without hesitation.

Best neapolitan pizza in town. Beautiful fresh pasta, everything cooked from scratch. Definitely going back. Good and attentive service.

Another really disappointing trip to Cotto. We hadn't been for a while as it had become so hit and miss but we have had lovely meals in the past and didn't want to give up completely. I'm afraid it was NOTTO from us. Food average at very best and both meals sent back to be redone. Pizza swimming in grease and undercooked - practically liquid in the middle. Bruschetta toast black. Saw a few other tables having the same issues yet others seemed quite content. Service is generally slow with two girls working hard and the rest pretty lacklustre. It is sadly going downhill - it used to be really good.

Probably the worst Italian meal in my life,it wasn't Italian despite the online menu,over priced wine and not the best service,staff attention was non existent, would not recommend , complete waste of money

On a recent family visit to Hereford we spent one evening at Cotto. Our meal was outstanding, especially the lamb dish and the starter of cold meats. The service was very friendly and professional. We'll definitely visit next time we are in Hereford.

We went with my brother at Hays festival but we waited 2 hours for 2 drinks and 2 starters and we chose to pay and leave because apparently they didn't register properly our mains order and that would've meant staying for 3+ hours. I think they need to train staff properly instead of leaving them on their own as a lot of them looked very confused about anything.

We were excited to visit Cotto at the Hay Festival this year, at their pop up restaurant. We arrived at 6.30 and after queuing we were then ushered to the table by a confused and sullen looking host. The table was dirty, with the previous glasses and napkins but we didn’t think about it too much. She then said that menus were being printed and would be with us soon. It became evident very quickly that two things were wrong 1) a complete lack of leadership of the servicing staff, nobody appeared to be giving meaningful direction; 2) almost no waiting staff for orders (but weirdly quite a few more serving food and drinks). Our waiter seemed to be waiting on the whole side of the marquee (about 30 or so tables). After 30 minutes we flagged him down to tell him we hadn’t been given a menu yet and nobody had taken our drink order. He apologised and took the order and found a menu. The drinks arrived promptly but unfortunately the complete lack of staff meant we waited another 40 minutes until we were able to flag him down again to say that nobody had taken our food order. We were on the verge of leaving but since he was there we thought we’d order. Sadly they didnt have the ingredients left for the order we wanted so we asked for the bill (paid £23 for 3 drinks) and left. This experience really took the edge off our trip to Hay as it was my son’s birthday and we thought this would be a nice meal option, having read previous reviews. The waiter cannot be fully blamed and while he didn’t have a clue whether he was coming or going, he should have been supported by more experienced colleagues with more waiting staff present. He was at least trying his best, while others seemed to be doing very little. I’ve had a great run with restaurants over recent years and have never been in a position where after an hour and fifteen minutes our order hadn’t been taken. We ended up having to go to a food stall at the festival for my son’s birthday and had to queue and wait another hour. If Cotto are at the Hay Festival next year, we absolutely would not take the risk in going back.

We had the pleasure of dining at Cotto this Saturday, and I was thoroughly impressed with every aspect of the experience! From the moment we stepped in, the warmth and charm of the decor set a cozy and inviting backdrop for what turned out to be a fantastic meal. The team deserves a special shout-out. They were not just friendly but genuinely attentive and helpful, making us feel welcomed and valued. They were knowledgeable about the menu and had great recommendations that did not disappoint. Now, onto the food – it was beyond expectation! Every dish was a delightful surprise, bursting with flavors that spoke of the care and creativity in the kitchen. The ingredients were fresh, and each plate was a beautiful presentation that made the dining experience even more special. Whether you're a local foodie or a visitor to the city, Cotto is a must-visit. It's not just a meal; it's an experience that you will want to repeat. Hats off to the chef and the entire team! We can't wait to return.

Good excellent, service good, a bit slow initially, atmosphere good, but rather noisy table next to us. My fourth visit to you, I will be back

My family and I visited Cotto last night for my daughter’s 18th birthday as she wanted to go somewhere special. Boy, we were not disappointed. Fantastic food, all fresh and homemade (we happened to walk past the larder and there was not a jar or tub in sight). Wonderful staff were very friendly and accommodating. A great atmosphere. We will definitely be back. Thank you for making a special meal even more special.

We arrived 7pm, ordering food by 7:15pm. Some people had starters, which arrived quite quickly. After this things went quite wrong. No-one collected our starter plates for over a hour. After that, there was no sign of any of the mains, with no staff providing an update. We had to ask twice to find out what was happening. Eventually 3 of the mains arrived around 8:45pm (an hour and a half after ordering), then another 2 about 5mins later. The final main course didn't arrive until 9:05pm, by which point some people in our group had finished eating. The food itself was good, but not enough to justify the premium prices and the fact this was an overall unenjoyable evening out due to the service. The manager kindly discounted 20% off of the bill, which is why this is a 2 star review rather than a 1 star review.

Me and my boyfriend were sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen. Super friendly conversation with all the staff, made us feel at home. Food was amazing, so were the cocktails. Will definitely be back.

Having read the positive reviews and the 'sample' menu online, we visited Cotto last night. BIG mistake - huge. The actual menu presented was only a fraction of the 'sample' one, with many of the more interesting items not on it. The starters were ridicularly expensive - £11 for 2 small risotto balls, which are mostly rice. There were only 2 pizzas, one of which was the bog basic margherita. The only other one was pepperoni and figs - except they hadn't got any figs. We persuaded them to use mushrooms instead, but they still charged the full amount for replacing expensive figs with maybe 2 sliced mushrooms? Anyway at least 50% of the pizza was the bare crust round the edge which was inedible. Add to this one of the most expensive wine lists I have seen, and you can safely say this is not a restaurant I will visit again, nor recommend to anyone. I am somewhat perplexed by all the recent good reviews though ....??

Had a family meal over Easter and chose Cotto to try somewhere new. Couldn't fault the food which was all delicious and good size portions. The staff were friendly and attentive. Not the cheapest but definitely a lovely place for a special meal.

First time visiting Cotto with my partner and we were blown away with the food and service. We both ordered Pizzas and our server / kitchen staff were very accommodating towards our dietary requirements. Food tasted fantastic and was some of the best Italian food we’ve had and I’ve been to Naples! However it was a shame that a table of women nearby ruined the atmosphere. They were quite rude and treated the staff awfully. The waitress was apologetic and dealt with the whole situation with grace. Can’t wait to come back when next in Hereford!

Couldn’t recommend Cotto more. Myself and two friends were sat in the garden and we had a perfect experience start to finish. Waitresses and waiters couldn’t have been more accommodating, making sure we had the perfect 5 star experience. Starters were incredible and consisted of mushroom balls, arancini balls and olives & sourdough bread and we were only waiting around 20 minutes for our mains to arrive, very prompt service! For mains we have a ragu, and two pizzas - all of which were absolutely delicious. Our waitress provided us with any additional dips and Parmesan cheese we needed and was very friendly. The only thing that spoiled our meal was a group of ladies sat just opposite us. They spent their evening making snide comments and laughing at the staff that were trying to accommodate them and then proceeded to complain about their food, explaining that it was “too spicy” despite it being explained to them what it was. The manager went out to speak to them and offered to take 3 pizzas off their bill and was apologetic towards them. She couldn’t have handled them any better despite them being incredibly rude and insulting towards her. Keep doing what you’re doing Cotto!

Terrible! Sat down at 7pm and wasn’t served mains until 9:15pm, all the food and drinks orders that (finally) came were wrong! Extremely rude manager who we thought was just having an off day but by looking at other reviews it seems to be a common theme! Just an apology for the lack of service and late food would have been enough but instead just a mouthful of abuse for raising the issue! Never experienced anything like it. If you want warm, decent food that you don’t have to wait two hours for then I would avoid at all costs! Such a shame as it’s such a lovely venue.

Great little independent Italian style restaurant in the heart of Hereford City. Swift friendly service and great food.

I'm sorry that I have to write a review about this restaurant but feel I have to in anticipation that they will get their act together. Disaster from start to finish! First of all the table we were allocated could seat 12 people we were a group of 6 not what we asked for. Arrived in the restaurant at 7pm food served at 9pm. Food was terrible! Seeing that it's an Italian restaurant the food was not authentic. Was quanity not quality. Staff were ok but the manager was rude. Don't go there!

I will never go to this Restaurant again..some of our meals were served at least 10mins before the others..the attitude from the Manageress when questioned the quality of the meals was very negative and very rude and even had the nerve to still charge us for three of the meals we complained about which were absolutely disgusting..in the end with big discussion and rudeness from both The owner and Manageress we were not charged. And Whilst leaving the Reasturant we had sarcastic comments the Manageress and Owner..if l could have given zero stars l would have..

I'd heard great things about this place so booked for a Saturday lunch. We had the aranchini balls with a salad and was blown away as to how good they were, followed up with polenta cake for me and affogato for the other half. Both were delicious and something new for us to try. I can't recommend the food and service enough from the moment we walked through the door. We will be returning to enjoy more of the menu.

We came to Cotto for a Valentines Day meal. We were given water but no glasses on arrival and had to ask for glasses. We loved the wine we drank and the pizza was delicious (highlight of the meal). The rest of the food was mediocre, We were disappointed that our starter of calamari costed £16 and rubbery!

We had a table reservation at 7.15pm on Saturday which we were early to. The wait staff were prompt and got us to our table, got our drinks and ordered our food within 10 minutes. We ordered a starter which sadly took an hour before we got it. The pizza dough was AMAZING but the sauce wasn't my cup of tea, and we thought the key flavours that were listed on the menu was not present. We had plans later that evening and needed to go sharpish, which we told the wait staff and they were brilliant and very reactive. Overall the food wasn't fantastic, but the drinks and the staff there were superb.

Had dinner with work colleagues. The restaurant claims to be Italian but there's nothing Italian about it. They claim to serve Pizza Napoletana, which was not and not even close to a normal Italian pizza. The bruschetta included salad (which does not go) and big pieces of tomatoes (instead of smaller pieces) plus the bread was soggy and over toasted. The atmosphere was not good idea, with the cook constantly looking at our table. When it was time to pay, the waiter told us that the machine did not have paper and so couldn't provide us with a receipt. We booked a table for 3 and was given a nice table with comfy chairs. Enjoyed all the dishes and one cocktail. As the restaurant was busier, staff were working flat out and the chef kept saying ‘service please’ repeatedly and it’s kind of disturbing. Visited a few months back with my fiancé for date night - we booked in advance for a table for two. On arrival, what seemed to be a new staff member greeted us, we told him we'd booked a table etc. and he proceeded to ask the girl behind the bar what table to seat us at. Her response was "just shove them anywhere over there" and point to a table squeezed into the corner. This was a bad start to a bad evening at Cotto. The staff were rude and dismissive all night, we couldn't order more drinks without having to flag somebody down twice and remind them we were still there and still paying customers. We aren't a couple to go for a meal and order water to save money - we were ordering wine and cocktails. The food was average, not awful but not amazing. Please be advised this is not a place to write home about. For Hereford standards it is ok - for high end restaurant standards, it is poor.

Dined her as part of a corporate meal on a busy weekend evening. I adore Italian food and dined in Italy many of times wishing I lived there. This restaurant was amazing. Authentic Italian cuisine at its best. Shared a mixture of antipasti ans i had the pizza, it was heavenly and so we're the cocktails. It was an extremely busy evening and the ladies looking after us were super friendly and brilliant at their jobs. I would dine her 3 times a day if I could. Thank you for a wonderful evening. What a gem! Had a fantastic meal in this gorgeous little restaurant. Beautiful interior, fantastic service and food was delicious! Only downside was that they'd run out of Tiramisu!! 😵 Would return in a heart beat!

Unfortunately - I could not recommend this place less. We arrived on Saturday night for dinner and were greeted and sat promptly by a nice waiter. He is the sole reason there is 1/5 stars for service (I did not catch his name but he moved us to a nice table). Despite the restaurant being very quiet, we waited 45 minutes for our starters - the calamari was like rubber and we did not eat any of it (£13.50!!!) The bruschetta was nice, but not worth £8 either. The mullet taunting waiter in green Nike running shorts and scabby trainers/t-shirt barged past me on two separate occasions without apology nor care in the world for any form of service and the young lady cleaning tables not only sprayed surface cleaner on my partner's leg whilst clearing a neighboring table but also on my main course! (No acknowledgement nor apology given!) Nearly 1.5 hours after our arrival and slightly fed up, we then had to ask twice for our bill before getting impatient and paying at the bar on the way out. A total of £96. The Gnocchi was tasty - we both enjoyed this, hence the 2/5.

Such a great find, while staying in Hereford. Authentic Italian/Sicilian dishes, very tasty with a lovely selection of Italian wines, beers, and good tasting cocktails. Impressed with the welcome and service and the relaxed ambiance. Being a 'foodie' reassured by the authenticity of this family owned (by 2 chefs) restaurant that started out cooking at festivals and events. Finishing off with the tiramasu confirmed how good the food is - one of the best restaurant tiramasu's I've tasted for a long time.

A bit of a mixed experience. So I have been twice - the first time was in July 2022 for my birthday which was not a good experience as I saw the woman who was cooking my food, blow into it 'to get rid of the wrong cheese as it was not vegetarian'. I pointed out that this was not ok and it was remade for me and was delicious and the waiting staff were excellent at providing a complimentary drink and were very apologetic. However we then all got COVID and hadn't been out anywhere else.... Went back yesterday with my grandparents and the food was very good, although missing the wow factor I expected for the cost of the dishes. My dish (veggie) wasn't the best value for money but my grandparents dishes were both very hearty portions. Unfortunately, my grandmother was unhappy with her meal. Once again praise to the service staff for being completely wonderful about it all. All in all, I think their commitment to local produce is good, they have a great range of drinks, and the decor is really nice and very 'instagrammable' with a more contemporary and a cosy area. I'm not sure it offers the best value for money however, and I think that Cotto might suffer from it's own success, as I suspect it is a challenge for such a small kitchen to quickly handle a full restaurant with the swiftness of a larger kitchen (creds to them for how well they do though!). I suspect I have just had two unfortunate experiences here, but unfortunately I will probably not go back.

Ate here as part of a party of 8. The food in fairness was very good but I feel its too expensive hence the 3 stars. £17 for a calamari starter and £35 for a bottle of prosecco🤔

The food's clearly prepared by people who really know Italian cooking. Couldn't fault any aspect of it. Service, as in so many places like Hereford, was bright and breezy, if a little lacking in polish. But Lotto's a great neighbourhood eatery and I'd recommend.

We had a nice meal here on New Years eve. Food was good, nice atmosphere, service was ok given it was a busy night.

Really nice place to eat..went early so can't really comment about the atmosphere...but would certainly eat there again...really nice and enjoyed.

Excellent meal - better than anticipated. Beautiful flavours and really quick service. Friendly staff. Sea Bass and the Scallop meals quite amazing. Will return when next in Hereford

What an incredible find in downtown Hereford. Wonderful cocktails, great service and excellent Italian inspired food. We went on New Years Eve and it was packed, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Ellie, our server was outstanding. The food, prepared lovingly by Francesco, the chef owner, and his excellent kitchen staff, was simply top notch. My wife and I had a Cornish crab linguine, and my family had various yummy Napoli style pizzas. All were polished off. We shared a couple of fun and tasty deserts, and all the cocktails were outstanding. Thank you and great job all.

Awful ! Full stop ! Inedible food , Very poor service and rude !

Lovely food and generally good drinks in warm and cosy restaurant that was beautifully decorated. Unfortunately service was unacceptably slow, partly rectified by complimentary drinks but after waiting over an hour it was too little too late. If there had been more table checks throughout the meal the disappointment would have been kept at bay and the delay could have been less frustrating. After the food arrived an hour and a half late ( thank goodness we skipped the starter ) with a second round of drinks we were in good spirits to order dessert but after a further 20 minutes of being left with empty plates we decided the bill was the better choice as our three hour parking was almost up. The staff were nice when we were lucky enough to see them but the positives couldn’t make up for the painful slowness and given the expensive price tag I’d struggle to justify a repeat visit to see if it was a bad night for them and i’d go elsewhere unfortunately. Edit: forgot to add the food menu was awful for a restaurant of this standard. A cramped, poorly formatted A4 piece of paper folded in half. Few spelling mistakes had made it through as well. “Lager” spelt “Larger” for example.
