Difficult pre-theatre experience. We booked a table for 5.45pm needing to be in the theatre by 7.30. We thought this would be plenty of time - has never been a problem in other restaurants. However, approaching 6.50 and still no sign of main courses. 2 of us had already eaten starters so it wasn't so bad, but two elderly diners wanted mains and desserts, so the upshot was trying to rush food and pay-and-go, a conveyer-belt experience rather than an enjoyable meal. I would not recommend.

Disappointed. I ordered a 2-course set and the main course was upgraded to sirloin steak. However, the steak was cold as the compound butter for the steak not even melt/ soften.

The steak was absolutely awful, ordered steak frites with medium rare, and it was more like a boiled steak with some butter on top. The steak tasted more like it’s recooked, instead of cooking it fresh, atrocity!

Don’t have the steak. Pre WMC meal. Awful fillet steak. Took them three attempts. Two other steaks cold, the sirloin had piece of butter on it that had zero chance of melting. In fairness the manager was exceptionally apologetic, took the meal off the bill and offered a bottle of wine to take away which we didn’t take. Cooking a fresh steak really isn’t difficult. Have had issues there in the past but gave it another go as had a couple of decent Cote meals in London. Never again.

Clean sweep. Cannot fault a thing about cote.

We had a wonderful pre theatre meal recently at cote brasserie. The food was delicious and service fantastic. There was a misunderstanding on our part with the main course order but the staff insisted on bringing us a new main course even though it appeared we ordered the wrong one. I only wish we didn’t have to rush off to the theatre as we had such a wonderful time.

Came on the 30th of December for are Christmas meal , there was 6 of us the service was terrible waited 35 minutes for a drink, never had the starter that we wanted , as we were given are main meal my friends still never had there starter , I refused to pay and we walked out and had to go chip shop , as everywhere was booked up , are day was reunion, it's more like a weather spoons never again

Amazing meal in a beautiful setting. Staff was attentive, polite and friendly and the food was first class.

We had a brilliant evening here, our waiter was fantastic, friendly and made us feel comfortable (unfortunately we did not get his name) the food and drinks came promptly and were all of top quality - belly pork and duck highly recommended, gorgeous. It was very loud (as to be expected on a Saturday evening) but the venue is beautiful and everyone was chatting and happy, we thoroughly enjoyed our experience

Visiting Cardiff for 24 hours and wanted something a little special for our last evening in the city. Was served by a amazing young woman who was friendly and such a pleasure to be looked after. I tried a new cocktail, and gave some feedback once I'd finished. I thought not much more of it, but later she brought me another taking in consideration my feedback! Wow, what amazing service. The whole meal was delicious and Worth the money. Thanks for making our experience a good one!

We visited Cotes for lunch before a show at WMC. As always it was packed so make sure you book ahead. Good range of options on the menu for most dietary requirements. We tried the cheese souffle and warm tomato salad for starters followed by a mushroom bourguignon and baked ratatouille for mains. All the food was perfectly cooked and well flavoured, four clean plates. Crème caramel and café gourmand for dessert. Lovely meal served by friendly and attentive staff. Excellent atmosphere as well.

We were promptly welcomed at the door and given a table by the window since quite a few large parties were well into their meals in a few parts of the large restaurant and some had been and gone already. It was only about 8pm so I was quite surprised. Some options were therefore unavailable and this hadn't been a problem until two of our party wanted to order dauphinoise potatoes but couldn't because the restaurant had run out. Had we wanted to order steaks two types of those were also completely out of stock. The waiter asked us if there was an event in town as they had been extremely busy all day. We had no idea but maybe simply the nice weather, possibly the last warm weather of summer, may have inspired people to come out more. I ordered a cheese souffle and fish parmentier with a side order of french beans. All of the items I ate were delicious as was the merlot wine we had with it. My fellow diners also enjoyed their food. We were served well for the most part and were the last but two party to leave. Atmosphere was quite good, better when it was busier but by the end of our meal it was quite quiet.

The food is always good at Cote, good value, and good service

We went there for an early (5.30 pm) birthday meal before going to the WMC to see Grease. Cadi our waitress was great. Chatty, helpful, and not overbearing. I had the charcuterie starter with toasted sourdough. It was good, but needed some chutney or similar as it was too dry with just bread and ham. The minute steak and frites was good and our bottle of Sauvignon Blanc hit the spot. The fixed price menu is pretty good value. The bill - 3 fixed price menus, bottle of wine, two double espressos came to £98.40 (including 10% service which had been automatically added to the bill).

We had a great dinner on the bank holiday Monday , we were well look after, food and service was great. The fish stew was absolutely amazing!!!

Faultless. Service was excellent as was food. First time I have visited and I will definitely be returning. Food was better than certain highly rated restaurants in Cardiff. My friend and I were going to the theatre but I’d travel to Cardiff just to eat at Cote.

Lovely venue for pre theatre meal 😋. Service was excellent, servers friendly, and nothing too much trouble. Food is very good and has reasonable prices. Will definitely visit again. 💰.

We booked a table for 3 of us after seeing Blood Brothers at the Wales millennium theatres opposite. Great location, accessible, flat. Pleasant staff who had a gluten free menu ready for me, which was great. I had the Breton fish stew with loads of mussels, prawns and a piece of white fish in a delicious tomato-y sauce and gluten free bread. My partner enjoyed the duck a l'orange and my sister-in-law enjoyed her Parmentier fish (like fish pie). We shared a bottle of Pouilly-Fume white wine. 2 had the Café Groumands, coffee with 3 mini desserts, all very tasty and I had the creme brulee with macerated strawberries on top. Lovely decor. Food was so tasty I would definitely go again and recommend highly. They do add a 10% service charge though.

7.54am on a Sunday. Been for a run to the Bay. Nothing open. Cote doesnt open till 9am however the lovely Melissa offered me an espresso as she was getting set up for the day. I work in Restaurants and its little moments of hospitality like this which make me so proud to work in this industry. Thanks Melissa you literally made my day!

You are always welcomed and professionally seated and cared for at Côte. The food is good, the wine reasonably priced and well chosen, and you have the impression of a medium priced restaurant somewhere in France. What more could you want?

Incredibly friendly staff - nothing too much trouble (especially our waiter, Nick). Food lovely and atmosphere great.

We started with cocktails, but both were disappointing. The Fleur Spritz tasted like a basic gin and tonic, and the French 75 lacked any fizz. This put us off ordering food, so we left. I was also frustrated by the slow service, especially since I paid a 10% service charge. I don't recommend this place.

Food delicious, service excellent and overall a lovely experience

Called in for breakfast on Saturday morning. I had a latte, juice and eggs florentine. My husband and son had the eggs royale. Great service, lovely chilled vibe. Visiting the bay in 2 weeks with my mother and will definitely visit again for breakfast.

Lovely food and attentive staff

We had a birthday dinner at Cote and it was exceptional. The service was great, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely and the staff were very efficient and attentive. We had a lovely evening.

Went into Cote after some shopping. Service was pretty good. Promptly asked what drinks we wanted. Wife asked for a Bloody Mary I asked for a coke. About 5 mins they came back and said they didn’t have any tomato juice so the she ordered a cote royal. We then ordered olives and bread as our starter and both had the beef cheek bourguignon with mashed potatoes, mushrooms and carrots. Which was so tasty and filling. We didn’t have room for dessert. Would definitely go back.

French cuisine in a charm place

Worst food and experience I’ve ever had. 2 in our party had food poisoning from the mussels, the steak was thin as anything and the chicken was bland! All the food was also served luke warm. Go elsewhere for a nice evening meal as this place definitely isn’t worth the price!!

Great cheeses. Mussels in Breton soup were not cooked and no fish. Moules arrived cold and had to be returned. We got money off but rarely have I had such a poor meal. The microwave technician must have had a bad day.

Visited on a recommendation,early evening pre show at millennium centre,not busy at the time around 17.30 ,1st of may 24,chose a chicken dish, overcooked and dry,sadly,one bad experience puts me off returning

The food was good, fresh, very tasty, amazing coffee. The audience seemed quiet "old", but it could be by coincidence. The service was fine and precise, we tasted the meat and fish food as well. Excellent desserts.

Hit and miss. Most food arrived hot, except the creamed spinach. It never came back after asking to reheat it. The onion soup had the cheese on two slices of toasted bread and not covering the soup. The broth was on the peppery side. The Breton fish stew was tasty, with a lot of mussels.

Lovely restaurant beautifully located on the quay. Had Eggs Benedict. They were very tasty! The staff is very friendly.

Was looking for a nice place to eat after swimming today with my partner and our experience here took a good day and made it even better. The food was exceptionally good from start to finish. We ordered 3 courses from the fixed menu and don’t have a bad word to say about any of it. Best food we’ve had in a while. On top of that the servers were lovely and welcoming. It was just an overall great experience. Thank you.

What can I say done my homework for a nice meal for my partners? Birthday came over from Manchester this came up as the number one restaurant on Cardiff Bay had the starter chicken pate the bread was in edible supposed to be toast nearly broken my teeth don’t know what to say about the Pate but I’ve had a lot better. Thought we would order truffle triple cooked chips turns out they were just bought standard frozen chips at least you would think they would be making home-made chips and to add insult to injury. They charged a pound extra to change from Fry to chips. Peppercorn sauce was an extra £3 Which was called and sent back broken seat and someone have not flushed them you think in a place like this with the price they are charging it would be a lot better. The only thing I could say is the staff were lovely. I don’t know about the chef, though, in a pair of shorts .

It was a lovely birthday for my boyfriend. The service was AMAZING! The food was soooo tasty and we will definitely come back!

Not-so-great experience at Cote Cardiff Bay. It's definitely disappointing when you notice a difference in treatment between tables. Waiting an hour for your food and not receiving complementary bread while others did is not ideal. When our food did come it was pretty average for what we paid. Would not recommend to anyone.

My wife and I had an Easter Sunday treat and tried the sharing platter which was thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were welcoming and freindly.

The food is always spot on and the staff always great, very welcoming. I am French and Cote is my simple go-to eating out place when I'm missing dishes from home.

Starter and mains wernt very warm shame really

Went for my 60th birthday celebration, some of my friends were a bit late in arriving and explained to the staff and they were fab explaining it was not a problem. Complimentary glass of bubbly went down a treat. Mostly ordered steaks cooked to perfection the other orders, fish pie and chicken? I was told they were delish.

Nick was one of the most friendly, kind and attentive waiters I’ve ever met. He was chatty throughout our meal and told us about an upcoming acoustic night. My partner and I cannot believe what a nice man he is. The food was also delicious and the drinks were perfect.

The food and wine were excellent, but unfortunately we found the waiters very inattentive after they had brought the food. This meant that any other needs we had went unoticed and we had to seek out staff ourselves to make additional requests. So..the service was very poor overall. When I pointed this out to a waiter when paying the bill, there was no apology. Needless to say we paid no service charge. Very disappointing.

We visited to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. We were very well looked after from start to finish and couldn't have wished for a better experience. We shall return.

As always, friendly and welcoming experience from staff. The service was excellent. They are always very knowledgeable and the food was fantastic.

A great location in Cardiff Bay. Limited parking outside but, there's multistorey carparks to the front and rear of Roald Dahl Plass. Seating was spacious and the atmosphere for. There's a comprehensive menu and good drinks selection, however I found the alcoholic beverages considerably more expensive than similar restaurants. The food arrived in good time and fantastic quality. There's a compulsory 10% service charge added to the bill which isn't good for those on a budget and people don't notice this will add additional tips. Overall not a disappointment and I will visit again. I'm my opinion 8/10.

Failed to mention a lack of ingredients when ordering, just expected us not to notice, no butter with toast, missing orange juice, distinctly average food, took far too long to come even though it wasn’t busy and there seemed plenty of staff, nothing to dry hands on in the toilets, over promised and under delivered on the whole, and ‘micro salad’ is a not a pile of rocket 🙃

Although the online booking showed no availability, I called up and I was accommodated. The staff were extremely friendly and polite. They couldn’t have done any more for us. So attentive. I have food intolerances and allergies and they were quick to offer me the allergens iPad to look at options, which was fantastic.

Visited after a matinee at WMC on Mothering Sunday also Wales v France so was really busy in the restaurant, service was really efficient and staff lovely and friendly, very accommodating with mum’s wheelchair, great food and lovely complimentary cocktails, shout out to Mannon our server, what a star she is.

Title: A Disappointing and Potentially Dangerous Dining Experience Tonight, my dining experience at Côte Cardiff Bay was not only disappointing but also alarming. I ordered a steak, expecting a delightful meal. Unfortunately, what was served to me was far from appetizing; the steak was spoiled. The realization that the meat was not fit for consumption was immediate, and the dish had to be sent back to the kitchen. Consuming spoiled food poses serious health risks, and I was appalled by the oversight. Adding insult to injury, the response from the staff further soured the experience. Our waitress, while acknowledging the mistake, merely mentioned that we would not be charged for the steak, as though this gesture absolved the restaurant of serving potentially dangerous food. There was no genuine apology, nor were there any attempts to rectify the situation beyond this minimal effort. A more appropriate response would have been to offer a discount on our bill, acknowledging the severity of the mistake and valuing customer satisfaction and safety. I urge potential customers to reconsider dining at Côte. The lack of attention to food safety and unsatisfactory customer service makes it a place to avoid. No one should have to worry about the quality of their meal or the potential health risks involved when going out to eat.

Great service, I went with two friends and all of us had babies. The team were so accommodating, highly recommend. The food was great and the prix menu is well priced.

So whilst we were there, there was an issue with the gas so we weren't able to actually order anything from the main menu and instead were only able to have the French Onions Soup and some other starters along with drinks. This was obviously a one off problem but the staff were incredible about the situation, it wasn't their fault at all but they were incredibly apologetic and sincere. We were offered more starters and drinks for free but we decided to leave. The French Onion was delightful, the drinks were lovely and the options were great. It's a lovely restaurant and one I will definitely return to, regardless of this slight setback today. Wholeheartedly recommend for a lovely date night. We'll definitely come back to try the food another time.
