Cote Brasserie - Shrewsbury in Shropshire

We've been to Cote in Shrewsbury a number of times now and never had a bad experience. The food, service and location is great. There is outdoor seating available if you have a dog and also great for watching the world go by. If you're in Shrewsbury and after a nice meal I'd highly recommend Cote, we'll definitely be back!

Went here on a Saturday night for my mums birthday and its was very good. Service was exceptional with just the right amount of humour. The food was excellent too. I had the ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly and very tasty. Definitely one of the nicer places to eat in Shrewsbury. April 2024 update as we have visited again: Had a fantastic meal here for my dad's birthday. We had a lovely round table which was perfect as we could all talk to each other. The food was fantastic. We all had three courses and all agreed that the food was exceptional and very reasonably priced. I was happy to see that we had Tony as our waiter as I remembered him from the last time we visited, he was very attentive and easy to get on with. We really loved his sense of humour he got my dad laughing which doesn't happen very often. I was impressed by how Tony managed to serve all 5 of us very quickly without leaving any of us waiting for food.

Over priced average food. Very poor value for money.

Amazing food, nice staff and a great atmosphere. I recommend this to anyone who is in the area. The price was reasonable for the quality of the food. I would have added a bit more salad to the dishes but they were still amazing.

Staff are so welcoming and upbeat/friendly/proffesional. Food is lovely and well timed/presented. Will visit again as have done before :)

Been there before and had a great lunch, so took friends, unfortunately today's experience wasn't anything similar, food portions were very small for what we paid and quality not as good Won't visit again

Service was exceptional and can't be faulted, but unfortunately we were left somewhat underwhelmed by the quality of the food.

Friendly attentive waiter. Nice cheese souffle for starter. Beef bourguignon good portion size very tender. Fish pie nice lots of leeks inside so make sure u like leeks. Creme caramel for dessert and cheese board. It's not the best set out cheese board I have had, but the cheeses were very good. You can choose your own from a list of many. There is also a fixed priced menu to choose from, although our choices were from the main menu.

Very pleasant. Eggs Benidict Royal, was good. I would have added a little more mustard if making it. But good, eggs were perfectly poached. Unobtrusive service. I would thoroughly recommend.

Enjoyed an evening meal pre visit to OMH. Warm welcome, nicely presented food and good value

Saturday 24/02/2024 Very busy which is good. However the service was good by the young waiters , but slow & we waited a very long time for our meal as busy. We shared a £9.25 Camembert. We’ve never seen such a small one! 3 tiny pieces of sourdough! Fish pie was small with 3 prawns, expensive for size! I had duck at nearly £18, small portion too! I bottle of IPA at £5.75 & not evan a pint! Rip Off we say and won’t be going again. Very expensive for what you get, we think.

My wife & I were visiting for the first time, it was our 26th wedding anniversary. As soon as we stepped through the door and welcomed by the server we had one of our best experiences in a restaurant ever! We were given a complimentary Kir Royale for our anniversary, it was delicious! We were told in great detail about the menu and the steak soirée. I have an allergy to Brazil nuts, I was assured that no dishes contained Brazil nuts but that was treated seriously as all my food came with a flag and I was told that certain dishes may contain nuts. The wine, oh the wine was out of this world! Believe me, we had an amazing experience tonight, the food is not cheap but it is worth every single penny! Thank you for a wonderful night.

I regret to say something terrible has happened to this restaurant. It was one of my favourite lunching places when in Shrewsbury but yesterday my wife and I sent our meals back and didn’t trust them to give an alternative. Everything about both dishes was poor. I understand Côte is a French chain. I have lived in France. If this place was in France there would be a riot of angry customers.

Excellent French food. Disappointed at no tartiflette today but the Cote burger was fantastic. Tony was a great server. An asset to the company

Arrived for brunch at 11.50am and was greeted with are you wanting breakfast or lunch. We said breakfast and then was told we had 6 mins to order which a bit rude. It then took 15 mins to take our order. The food was good but welcome rubbish.

Excellent service. Amazing food. Will be returning on next visit to Shrewsbury.

Beef bourgouinon was amazing, so tender and beautiful sauce with mushrooms and onion and bacon. The potato puree was a dream. My partner ordered the filet and we had to send it back twice because they kept sending it out raw when we ordered medium rare. The second time it was overcooked on the outside and undercooked inside. Not impressed. the waitress was lovely and tried to sort this for us, but sending it back twice was not impressive. probably won’t go again, my partner ended up having stomach pain afterwards

Fantastic food would recommend it for some where to eat

Went for my birthday meal with my partner and had the most incredible evening. The food was delicious. The staff were absolutely bloody lovely. Very informed about allergies. Just glorious. Highly recommend

This French restaurant is worth to try. The environment is good. We ordered a Tuna Nicoise and 2 kid meal: Poulet Breton (chicken breast with mushroom sauce), French onion soup with toasted sourdough & cheese and Chocolate fondant with vanilla icecream. My kids said they are all yummy and very happy with their meals. Tuna Nicoise is Famous salad from French Riviera. The grill tuna steak is medium, very delicious 👍🏻 love it a lot! With soft boiled egg, French beans and some veggies, the dressing is delicious too. The service is good. Will definitely come again👍🏻 A French restaurant with a nice environment, worth a try. We ordered a tuna salad and two kids meals. The children's meals are Poulet Breton (chicken breast with mushroom sauce), French onion soup with grilled cheese bread and chocolate heart too soft with vanilla ice cream. The children said they were all delicious and enjoyed eating them. Tuna salad is a famous salad from the French Riviera. The grilled tuna steak is medium rare in the middle, very delicious👍🏻I like it very much! Served with soft-boiled eggs, green beans and some vegetables, the sauce is also delicious. The service is also very good. I will definitely come again👍🏻

Fantastic food and even though they were extremely busy service was very good and staff were very friendly.

First visit and looking forward to returning. Five of us all thoroughly enjoyed our lunch.

Service was slow waiting ages, food burnt French onion, how can you ruin a soup, steak over cooked & when we said we got such attitude & card reader literally thrown at us because we questioned the surcharge at £14? Crazy 😧

The food was absolutely lovely. The service was great but I wasn't impressed by the charge which is supposed to be optional but if you don't know and require to not have it, they charge you an arm and a leg. The atmosphere was lovely but a little too echoey which made it a little difficult to chat. Everybody's voices echoed. It was still a lovely night out. The restaurant is beautiful and well placed in town.

Reading other reviews maybe we picked an off day but the service was grumpy at best food average and I dislike having service charge foisted on me- I always tip and sometimes 12% rather than 10 but I like to have the choice. I don’t think any waiter smiled and woman at the bar was grim faced whenever I encountered her! Pity as we were meeting old friends for a special get together - didn’t stay for coffees pleased to get out of the place!

We concur with the previous reviews here. My biggest impression is how fantastic and attentive the staff are. The food and wine was equally great. I dont know her name but the slim, petite, red haired, young lady server at 330pm on saturday 11th november was simply fantastic. She gave great advice and brilliant courteous service. Place was dead Calamari was too greasy so couldn’t eat it all. Pork cassoulet was lovely. Overall it was a pseudo French themed restaurant not authentic French.

Had a lovely meal the only reason for the 4 stars I would have liked some veg with the beef bourguigon Had to pay extra for small dish of vegetables costing near £4 making the dish neary £24 . Been to a French restaurant and the veg was included in with the meal .

Impromptu visit here with my Daughter for breakfast. Lovely welcome, seated straight away but the food was fantastic and excellent value. If we visit Shrewsbury again we’ll definitely be back. Thank you 😊

Always a great experience at Cote in Shrewsbury, the menu has just been updated and we had the Sunday lunch sharing platter. Highly recommend.

Food amazing but service disappointing which spoilt our experience.

Very pleasant, decent reasonably priced fixed lunchtime menu. Fairly quiet around 12.30pm and then became increasingly busy around the 1.00pm which caused a slowing of the service. The staff were very friendly.

Called in for lunch. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Lovely surroundings and, luckily not too crowded . Ordered off the main menu though there was the ' fixed price" menu and their specialties menu to chose from. French onion soup and chicken Breton ordered and calimari and butter nut squash . Both delicious and we gave it 10/10 for taste, presentation and ambiance. Well done to the Staff for their attention to detail. We will visit the Manchester city centre restaurant next week and if they can match or exceed our expectations, it'll be our new "Favourite place" to have lunch or Dinner.

Visited for lunch there was 4 of us we hadn't booked banked holiday lunch. We all had different meals and everyone was very pleased. Service friendly and very efficient

A varied choice on menu, food and service good, well worth a visit.

Lovely meal for our wedding anniversary. Our only slight disappointment was service felt rushed for the first course which literally arrived with our aperitif and the second course was again we felt rushed after that it was much more relaxed French type feel.The food was delicious and the staff very attentive

Delishious Gluten free options, we have visited so many times and have never had anything but a brilliant experience. The gluten free options are amazing. I can't recommend them enough

My girlfriend and I booked a table to celebrate her passing an important test, and Côte Shrewsbury did not disappoint! The staff were lovely; Ariana, in particular, was exceptionally warm and welcoming—even when I accidentally spilt my drink! The lighting was warm and romantic. The atmosphere was pleasant. The food was absolutely delicious. Overall, I would highly recommend Côte Shrewsbury! Timothy

Desert and cocktails absolutely amazing

Met up with a friend for a catch-up. Had lunch and drinks, food lovely, service very good and felt comfortable sitting on afterwards for a chat. First time here and would be happy to go again.

Good food, average service, it was a quiet afternoon too.

Simply the best place to eat in Shrewsbury if you’re looking for a fine dining experience. Our waitresses, Ariana and Daisy were excellent. The service was speedy, professional and friendly. One member of my group had special requests and they dealt with those requests perfectly. The Chef Gabriel made a special effort to ensure all our food was cooked to perfection. If you eat meat I would highly recommend their steak tartare and the filet steak. If you prefer fish the calamari is excellent and the Breton fish stew is a great option for the main course. If you prefer a prix fixe menu the minute steak is a tasty budget friendly option. As for deserts you can’t go wrong with the chocolate fondant or the almond financier. The entire experience was absolutely flawless and I would highly recommend Côte if you’re planning on splashing out for a great meal!

One of the most underrated breakfasts in town. Surprisingly cheap and you get a good choice of a selection of breakfasts served with juice and a hot drink.

Good atmosphere with great staff

The service was amazing and really enjoyed the saxophone. Had planned to have brunch but then decided on fish dishes which were exquisite. The waitress was really friendly and made us feel at home and looked after. Top marks

Outstanding meal in a lovely atmosphere with live saxophone player. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Every meal was outstanding. I particularly recommend the beef bourguignon. The fish stew and burger were really great. Don' t miss visiting here. It's a really special restaurant.

Great service on Sunday morning

Our favourite place for breakfast in Shrewsbury. Such a nice setting, service is always on point and the food is delicious. Wouldn't recommend anywhere as highly.

This was an incredible find. Good French style food, at good prices, with superb service. Our Polish waitress was helpful, attentive, and managing about 10 tables almost on her own. What a joy to see one well qualified hard worker, rather than three or four school leavers on the minimum wage doing all they can but achieving little. The Breton fish soup was delicious, the fish pie equally so. Was the star of the show the garlic focaccia with olives? Difficult call that. Bravo to all concerned.

Had breakfast here this morning and everything was excellent. Staff were lovely and service was first class. The full breakfast was delicious and came with juice and coffee of your choice. Great value and would thoroughly recommend.

It was our wedding anniversary – we were given a free glass of champagne each and made to feel very special – we always know we will get a delicious meal in an elegant atmosphere at a reasonable price.

Have eaten at Cotes for many years. This time round I cannot believe how little food was on our plate. The waitress should have warned us.

We love going to Cote for special occasions. Always enjoyable and the food is amazing.

Somewhat ptetentios 'welcome' on admitting we hadn't booked for lunch and things didn't improve much. Food was ok but no more, we had to wait too long between courses, our waitresses eere pleasant but tried to charge us for our complimentary glassof wine, and no apology offered. All in all a disappointing experience. We will be in no huŕry to return

Me and my Girlfriend came here last night to celebrate my birthday, it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Lovely decor and atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food. Our server Adam in particular went above and beyond to make sure we had a great evening.

A fantastic breakfast and perfectly catered to children and babies which makes it such a better experience when eating out. Friendly staff who went above and beyond.

Been here a couple of times recently and the first time I sat outside and was completely forgotten about. The last time they didn't bring our desserts for about 45 minutes and I had to go and ask for them. Foods nice when you get it.

Visited Cote a week last Friday, would have reviewed sooner but waiting for a response from the Manager in Training. Well, where do i start. On arrival we were greeted by a member of staff who diligently was sorting out our possible food allergy. The restaurant was not busy, maybe 10 tables occupied, but it took probably 30 minutes to get a drink. Starters arrived at about an hour. My partner ordered mushrooms on toast with a poached egg on top, I ordered soup. On the first incision of the poached egg, it promptly exploded and showered my partner with hot egg in her face. The bang was heard by a waitress who came over to see if we were OK. My soup passed on 2 counts, it was liquid and it was hot. Main course was Steak frite, apparently being headlined as a new special dish. Chewy and cold in my book, garlic butter not had a hope in hell of being melted. All in all, a very disappointing visit, could have had better food and service from a well-known American fast food chain. I think when you book online they should redirect you to the Channel tunnel to get French cuisine from those who understand it. Never to return.

Don't service charge especially when not made aware when booking

We had a 3 course meal for 4, the portion sizes are just right so that after your dessert you don't feel uncomfortable and full. Good atmosphere and pleasant staff, was getting busy around 7pm.

Very disappointed . We've been regular diners since Cotes opened and had wonderful meals and service. Today was poor. Cotes seem to have lost the ambiance it once had. The set menu food we had was well below average. We had calamari to start and sesbass. The calamari was poorly presented ( As previous) The seabass was also poorly presented with a very waterie sauce, broccoli was hard, not al dente and, the potatoes hard. Very doubtful If we will return, so disappointed with the lack of standards from previous years visiting as our local eatery.

Had the steak and fries. Could have been a bit better but the service was amazing.

Very calm and Parisienne feel to the food and service. Drinks for the three of us and patè for me. 10% service added automatically. Was Cafe Rouge. No dogs so not somewhere we will be going often.

Nice enough food, but my grilled chicken was really dry. It came out really fast though so I have to assume it had been batch cooked and left on a keep warm.
