Chez Sophie in Shropshire

Visited here today, lovely place to sit and relax whilst visiting the town. However, the workers themselves don’t really make you feel welcome. They’re also very stingy with the toppings if your having one of the sweet crepes. I opted for the kinder bueno, I bet there was probably less than 1 teaspoon of nutella sauce on it. In terms of toppings and what you get for the money, probably the worst one i’ve had.

We wanted a snack to keep us going, so called Into Sophie's. A quirky kind of eaterie in a good position. We had delicious coffee, followed by Ham and Cheese Crepes, then decided we had to try a sweet one - Toffee and Banana - oh my! we so enjoyed it and would have had another but we had to move on ....... Highly recommend!

Brilliant service , amazing place , recommend the food the beer the coffee’s , it didn’t disappoint , the guys are friendly and food filling , kids love the sweet treats , I love the beers to take home and the wife loved the savoury crepes, so all in all perfect all round , if your passing we recommend you try here they even do take away can’t fault … We will back again soon

We had treat on our recent visit yo Shrewsbury called in and had fresh made waffles, realy nice,fresh fruit and cream,good range of drinks and coffees

Food is good, but I have been there three or four times, and not once I have found the staff at the till to be kind but rather patronizing and sulky. The person who was with me had the same impression.

Cozy crepe/waffle house! Reasonable prices but only about half a banana on my crepe which was a shame. Kind of packed in but gives it a nice vibe and the bathroom was clean and well decorated! Milkshake wasn't particularly thick but that's preference. Would visit again and bring the dog too!!

A very nice and characterful place to sit and relax! But the hot-chocolate was a bit bland - coming dangerously close to the cocoa-powder with hot water variety. A hot chocolate like they used to serve them, before people made real hot chocolates ... But it was late in the day, near closing time everybody was probably tired, as were we :)

1st time I've ever had a member of staff roll their eyes at me! I asked if my children could have chocolate and biscoff together on a crepe. The guy at the till was astonished and rolled his eyes liked I was insane; he wasn't sure if they went together?!!!! Errr... yeah they do. Either way, was it such an inconvenience to put a dollop on the plate (I was happy to pay for the extra). They are also definitely not crepes- they're pancakes that we all make on pancake day. Overpriced and sulky staff.

Really nice savoury and sweet crepes. Not too long a wait either. We had the smoked salmon and cream cheese crepe which was lovely

Not welcoming at all. No conversation other than to take your order and to take your money. We waited quite a while to be served even though we were the only ones in the shop! It was awkward. We wouldn’t return- no excuse for rudeness.

A little expensive but nice portions and delicious.

We always pop in here whenever we're in town. Matt & Sophie are doing a superb job. I always have the big meat & cheese crepe and my wife a sweet one. Amazing coffee and milkshakes, but for me, the selling point is the beer fridge! Matt is a mega beer nerd and always has a brilliant selection of rare beers from all over the world.

Amazing gluten free crepes!!! Abit expensive!!!! The male who works there always looks so unhappy 🙁

Pros: The cafe is dog friendly. The food was very good and served promptly. There was a good range of drinks, sweet crepes and savoury crepes. Cons: The savoury dishes and some of the drinks were a bit on the expensive side. Definitely more a place to go as a treat, IMO.

Popped in here while out shopping as needed some sustenance and energy inducing sugar… I was not disappointed ordered the baileys hot chocolate with the Nutella and banana waffle my daughters had the kinder bueno and a caramel one they were great…. The only thing I would say is the staff were not super friendly and when they delivered two of the dishes did not mention we would have to wait for the third …I got up to check when it hadn’t appeared after 5 minutes … just felt a simple “your order won’t be long “ “we can only cook two waffles at a time sorry about that” type comment with a smile would have been nice!

cosy little place serving freshly prepared crepes, waffles and hot and cold drinks. A wide range of international beers available too. Both our crepes were superb and beautifully presented. Comfy seating upstairs as well as booths on the ground floor.

Not the best but I may be spoiled. Apparently the milk shakes were fantastic (I didn't have one) and they were served in cool containers and nicely presented which added to the experience. Can't help but agree with the other comments on slow service and surliness 😆. Abrupt responses and wouldn't hurt staff to **place** cutlery etc on table rather than let it drop there in scrunched up napkins. A bit of an unpleasant smell to the place which is possibly due to lack of ventilation options in an old building while a lot of open cooking is going on and a lot of smelly dirty dishes lying around to start with. Understandably, with only two members of staff in the middle of the day, that will happen, but perhaps priorities ought to be considered. A lot of people do judge books by their covers and a lot of people would be put off by this.

Lovely crepes, I had the biscof and my friend had Nutella and strawberry. Just perfect ! Well worth a visit.

Beautifully fresh crepes and waffles that arrived very quickly after ordering. Relaxing environment and board games a great additional touch. Would definitely recommend!

My 1st time there but my youngest son loves it there. The milkshakes are refreshing and the waffles are sooo good. They are huge but it would be rude not to finish.😄

Absolutely delicious food, but the restaurant does sometimes make me feel a little claustrophobic as it’s a small space.

Ana amazing desert shop! Prices are reasonable and portion sizes or great. There is a great variety of crêpes, waffles and milkshakes, would certainly recommend!

Really loved this place. I had a strawberry and banana crepe and my wife had a Nutella and marshmallow one, both with a scoop of ice cream and they were delicious. The coffee was really good too, I will definitely be back as I want to try the savoury crepes.

I had the creme egg milkshake and my boyfriend had the ham and cheese crepe (I think) and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Great customer services, fast too. Recommend to anyone with a sweet tooth. Have been there many years ago and will be coming back! Thank you !

I live nearby and drop by on a regular basis. Normally you would gravitate to the sweet crepes but I cannot recommend the savoury crepes enough and are brilliant for gluten free crepes and taking care of their work surfaces. Give it a visit for savoury crepes and their milkshakes are lovely as well.

We visited Chez Sophie on a busy Saturday afternoon; the place was packed – it is clearly very popular. Our savoury crepes and hot drinks were delicious and great value for money.

Really chilled vibes and really amazing waffles, also loved the upstairs area with books and games. Will be coming back when next in Shrewsbury.

We visited here as a family and love that it’s still as good as ever , friendly staff amazing food milkshakes are genuinely amazing , and if they can satisfy my two children who are so fussy at times then they have to be doing things right , there’s a great selection of food we chose a couple of crepes for ourselves and waffles for the kids , we enjoyed a cappuccino each and then I took a couple of beers home for later from there well stocked fridge … (so good) Definitely recommend this great little independent .. the service I can’t fault and will definitely be back again 5 stars well done

I'm not sure if the waiter was just having a bad day or he's always rude but his whole demeanour and attitude stank!! I popped in to ask if the table on the ground floor could be kept for 5 minutes whilst I waited for my family to arrive, he said they don't reserve tables. I asked if we had to go upstairs is there a way for my baby's pram to get up (as they're winding, tight stairs), he replied "you could just carry it" and had an expression I didn't appreciate. I explained due to a physical disability I couldn't 'just' carry the pram, he shrugged and said they're not busy so downstairs might still be available. I left and begrudgingly returned (as I'd promised my family we'd go here) and the waiter continued to be rude. He walked into my toddlers pram numerous times (I had positioned it as much out the way as possible), he just had terrible customer service in every way. The food was nice but not amazing! I enjoyed my iced latte but I won't be returning.

Me and my boyfriend stopped to have milkshakes as it was so hot and they were lovely!! Staff are friendly and the outside seating is perfect on a warm day. Worth a stop, next time I’ll definitely be trying a savoury crepe! The milkshakes below were the kinder bueno 😍😍 and a Cookie Monster.

Found this little gem whilst on a visit, I had the meaty crepe and my partner had the biscoff, banana and Nutella waffle, absolutely delicious and made fresh right in front of you, I would 100% recommend this place as it was spotlessly clean and the staff were lovely oh and did I mention the food was delicious. Can't wait for our next visit definitely worth the 45minute travel 👍

Visiting Shrewsbury, thought we'd give Chez Sophie a go for lunch in the town centre. Whilst it looks very inviting, with simple interior, the food options for those with allergies are virtually non-existent. No dairy free options and only 1 gluten free option. So we limited the visit to a coffee, and drink for the kids - the Cafe Latte was very nice, and spent our money on food elsewhere. A real shame.

Very nice coffees and chai latte. Friend said the crepe she had was nice. Only thing I would say is that the staff for a little rude and could have been friendly. We also had to ask them to clean our table.

Wanted to try something a little different so decided to go here but was let down with the food. I first thought the prices were a little high but was told by one of the staff that the servings are quite large so thought it would be ok but was disappointed once served. Went for a savoury crepe but the meat was no better than what you get prepackaged from a supermarket and there wasn’t much of it. I would’ve happily paid a little more for a larger serving and better quality products. The cafe itself is quite nicely finished and the staff seemed friendly, maybe the sweet crepes are better but this place is not for me.

Wow and wow again the waffles we had here were amazing!! But we had no room for our dinner booked an hour later!

My 2 kids love it there, lots of games to keep them entertained whilst waiting to be served and loving the friendly atmosphere! Kids love sitting downstairs to watch their crêpes being made and say a few words in French to Sophie! It is great that dogs are welcomed too! They've introduced a GF option which is awesome! Highly recommend for a relax unpretentious eat out experience

I’ve only been into Sophie’s probably 6 times since it opened a few years ago now, but 5/6 I’d say the staff have been underwhelming. The same female seems to look very grumpy (not sure if it’s the owner or not..) but zero smiles, no interaction with customers- which is alittle off putting. You go up to the counter and make your order, it’s charged and done with. Staff talk amongst each other and ignore you rather than spend 30 seconds giving positive customer service. The actual products- yeah nice! Nice berry smoothies, nice crepes! Expensive though. More so than it should be for what you get. It’s a shame, because the whole place is proper cute- never seems very busy though? Perhaps a staff meeting is in order.

Often visit for a latte, coffee is really good. When my teenage kids are with me they enjoy amazingly fancy milkshakes and smoothies, mouthwatering crepes and waffles. Visited yesterday and enjoyed really fresh and delicious waffles. Would recommend. Service quick.

Gorgeous dog friendly café! The hot chocolate was amazing. Really useful that if was open later than other cafés. Didn't have any food, but the crêpes, waffles etc. sounded great! Will definitely return!

Got here just after half ten for breakfast on a Sunday. Nice place with comfy seats and top trumps to keep the kids entertained. Mainly crepes and waffles but wife had a panini. Dandelion and burdock for me and coffee and chocolates for the others. Not cheap for the size of the portions/fillings but tasty and freshly prepared. Food nicely presented and would rather come somewhere independent like here than one of the chains.

Came for waffles but a sign said out of stock which I thought a little odd as they were meant to be fresh waffles. Anyway the crepe was good but not as filling as a waffle would have been!

Went to Chez Sophie for the 1st time today after living in Shrews for 3years. It was so delicious- we got the mars bar crepe and the kinder bueno waffle. It's safe to say we've gone into a crepe coma now! YUUUUUM x

I have never been here before even though I have passed it on numerous occasions. My son and daughter-law introduced this amazing place to me. We sat upstairs, and even though it was a busy Saturday afternoon, the food was amazing, hot and full of taste... staff were very good so after my first visit, this has become my favourite eatery... Extremely unfriendly staff. Waitress didn't even make eye contact, let alone a smile, as she put the food on table. She didn't even check which meal belonged to whom. Expensive, poor quality, cold food. Never again!

Yum yum yum. Perfection in crepes, great coffee and drinks, great service, and wifi for those of us who took our work!

I and my daughter just needed a lite bite while shopping around town centre. We normally go to one of the main coffee houses. However when walking by we looked in on Chez Sophie and thought we would try for something different. There were a few seats and bar seats at the window (more seating upstairs). I ordered a savoury crepe and my daughter a strawberry and Nutella topped Belgium waffle. Both very nice and obviously fresh as they are cooked and prepared at the counter. Coffee was good. Very nice relaxed and continental vibe.

Thoroughly enjoyed our food here. I had the salted caramel waffle which was absolutely gorgeous. Lovely atmosphere and great accommodating staff.

A great pit stop with something for the whole family! From fabulous Crepes and tasty Waffles to amazing dessert milkshakes and gourmet coffee to a great choice of belgian a contemporary craft beers. Mat, shropshires first beer sommelier also hosts regular tutored beer tastings for those that want to learn about new styles and great new beers..

I like to support the independents rather than the brands and this little french cafe is definitely worth supporting! We had amazing Hot Chocolates complete with whipped cream and mini-marshmallows!

Really delicious crêpes and milkshakes. Only thing I would say is I'm sad that the Artful Dodger milkshake is not on the menu any more as that was my favourite! Also hoping they can look into their straw supply and find some paper or bamboo ones instead of plastic.
