Delicious food and the staff were all really friendly and welcoming, all the benefits of a fancy restaurant while feeling casual and easy going.

We went to Cote in Chelmsford for a family birthday celebration. As a vegan I was a bit sceptical of going to Cote brasserie. But, to my pleasant surprise there were several vegan starter and main options. I had a tasty pumpkin soup and a delicious mushroom casserole. The service was excellent as well. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The only reason for not giving it a 5 star, is because there wasn’t a vegan dessert option.

Cote Chelmsford offers the classic Cote experience, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere and a menu full of French-inspired classics. My recent visit was mostly positive, but a few small details could have been improved. I ordered my steak cooked medium, but it arrived more on the medium-rare side, so I had to send it back. When it returned, it was cooked as I requested, and I could tell the meat was of good quality. However, I didn’t receive a steak knife initially and had to ask for one, which interrupted the flow of the meal a bit. Despite these small hiccups, the overall experience was enjoyable. The ambiance was pleasant, and the waitress was attentive and genuinely made an effort to ensure I was satisfied. With a few small adjustments, Cote Chelmsford could be an even better experience.

I arrived a bit before 9am and the staff kindly let me in, only ordered a black coffee and granola bowl. The bowl was left wanting …didn’t see any walnuts and it really wasn’t half full. Not sure how they could have made it look more attractive …coconut flakes perhaps, just expected more from a higher end resturant which as cotes. Place was clean, staff friendly and attentive. I would recommend but just needs a bit more wow

Myself and the my wife popped in there for afternoon dinner service was great however the food was terrible I had the steak filet straight from the freezer and my wife has the fish pie also straight from the freezer along with the spinach all just a bit watery…. Don’t plan on returning any time soon

Agnesa and her team were lovely and looked after us very well this afternoon. We had chicken pate and scallops for starters followed by seabass and salmon for mains to finish with a delicious chocolate mousse. It was perfect!

Every time we are going to Cote it is a blessing. Amazing dishes, friendly stuff, very good prices for the quality of the food. Truly recommend.

No one to greet us. We were told to find our own table. The staff weren't wearing uniforms, just random outfits like pink trousers covered in food. The restaurant was tattered and felt neglected. The menu consisted of mainly boil in the bag meals. The atmosphere was dead, with no music, all customers of a very late age range, and staff that seemed to resent being there serving them. After 10 minutes of not even being offered a drink, my partner and I left for an alternative restaurant... and in hindsight, we are so glad we did. I do not recommend cote, and won't recommend it until they claw their way into this century.

The service was good but the food not so good. Unfortunately it felt out of date, and feeling sick after eating. Usually Cote is a nice place to eat at, but at this specific venue it wasn’t good at all. Disappointed by the food, and feeling sick after :(

Always enjoy eating lunch at Côte. The staff are always very courteous, attentive and helpful. It's nearly always more pleasant than sitting in a pub. However, the prix fixe menu is a little tired, I feel, and I also think that the quality of the ingredients has gone down in the last couple of years.

We came at Cote especially for the french toast which is our favourite. But we then realised that we came after breakfast time. Lily was very kind to ask the head chef Samir if he could prepare the toast for us at an unconventional Lunch-menu time. And he happily agreed.The French toast was a standout. The flavors of vanilla were perfect, creating an inviting and comforting taste with the exquisite toppings.Highly recommended! Thank you so much Lily and Samir. You made our day x

We were lucky enough to be served by Josh. His attentiveness, friendliness and knowledgeable recommendations made our lunch memorable. Aside from the wonderful service (not only from Josh), the food was great and the restaurant was lovely. Highly recommended.

This may be one of a chain of restaurants but the food is always good as is the service. The management and staff always ensure you enjoy the experience. We have only been for lunch but have always been looked after well.

The manager Rugile was so friendly and helpful. She gave me and my family excellent service was making sure everything was fine and we enjoyed our meal. I would definitely recommend. Food and atmosphere was amazing.

Actually decent. And its in chelmsford, if you can believe it. I remember when this place was bar 7 and the owner sold methylated spirits mixed with water to 15 year olds. How times have changed!

We received a warm welcome from the attentive but not obtrusive staff. The food was tasty and served in good time. An enjoyable lunch at a reasonable in a relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely go back.

Always a great place for Sunday Breakfast

We was a group of 10 and several of our party had allergies and they were excellently catered for. All the food looked delicious (my steak was cooked to perfection) and the service was really good too. We couldn’t fault them!! I will definitely visit again!

Affordable and lovely French food in a relaxed atmosphere served by friendly and happy staff. Fine establishment to while away a couple of hours over a couple of courses....visited recently for birthday meal, were given a glass of Cremant de Bourgogne on the house, nice touch ☺ particular enjoyed sharing a cheese board at the end of the mains, all food lovely as always, affordable and right size portions - enough to make you want more due to taste but not to need it 👍

Great atmosphere, absolutely love the restaurant, the staff is nice and working fast, just a bit disappointed in the desert I've had. I have visited twice, once for breakfast, which was absolutely perfect and the second time it was for main menu. The mains were good but the dessert was very disappointing. I've had the crepes with cherries and the crepe had the texture of rubber and it tasted like it as well. I am a bit disappointed that I had to pay for it as well even though I have told a member of the staff about it and it was left untouched except for that small corner I've tasted and I've instantly regretted it.

Recommend Cote's "SUNDAY SAX" meals. Warmly welcomed, shown to a table ( of our choise ) and enjoyed listening to the Lady Sax player whilst deciding what to eat. We both chose the following Sunday 3 course option ( £38/ head ) and enjoyed our : Starter - Asparagus, egg, bacon & sauce. Main - Lamb rump, fries, bacon & peas + beans. Desert - ( just made room for it ) of Strawberries, merangue & cream. The Saxaphone player provided the perfect atmosphere for a liesurely and memorable meal served by our attentive waitress.

We had a wonderful dinner experience as a table of eight. The food and the service were both outstanding. We were sharing some starters: chicken liver parfait, cheese soufflé and scallops. If you try just one thing on their menu, go for the parfait. It is unreal! For mains I had their vegan mushroom bourguignon. I know vegan dishes are not for everyone, but I love everything with mushrooms, so for me it was a win. And the vegan bacon was definitely a different texture, than normal bacon, but the taste was lovely! My friends had the duck, pan-fried salmon and the fish pie, and they were all amazed by the quality of food. For dessert I had the paris-brest, which is a pastry filled with pistachio praline, and it was just the best! I would like to mention our servers here, Josh and Denis, because they did an excellent job caring for us. There was nothing too much trouble for them. They always made sure we had everything we needed, but also gave us space to enjoy ourselves in peace. They originally didn’t have the dessert that I was looking for, so I was a bit sad, but after a few minutes Denis came back to the table and told me that they’re able to make a slightly smaller portion of it. Which was extremely kind, and I appreciated it a lot! If you like french cuisine, and looking for a place with excellent service, Côte Chelmsford is a great place to go!

Meeting an old friend of many years, and from arrival i was met with a wonderful welcome, which was the start of great servicd by the young vibrant team. Terrific welcome cocktail, which was complimentory as we ate from the a la carte menu (great offer) Nice varied menu offer and great no rush service, as we talked non stop for over 4 hours! Nice decor and nice people.

Delicious meal. We had the pork belly that was cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly. No photos were taken. However, everything was beautifully presented. The atmosphere was a little reserved as all the customers were a bit older and quiet.

Not rushed. Restaurant was busy but the acoustics were great. Not too noisy and we could chat comfortably. We had a great afternoon. Thank you.

Lovely restaurant in Chelmsford. Food was good along with the wine and service. Very accommodating as, coming from Spain, we wanted to eat dinner a bit later than is usual in the UK. Would recommend eating here.

Everything was delicious. We ordered hot Camembert cheese with cherry tomatoes, pork cheeks in red wine with vegetables, mashed potatoes and fish parmentier.

It was my husband’s birthday and we were thoroughly looked after by Denis. The food was spectacular and the service was even better. We usually try to avoid chain restaurants but we have been to Cote twice now, and each time we have been very impressed by the quality. Will definitely return

Visited Cote with my wife on Saturday, haven’t been there for a few years. Had a great evening, food was lovely and service fantastic. There was a deal on where you got a free cocktail if you chose a main course from the a la carte menu. We both had French onion soup for starters, which was delicious. My wife had the chicken for main and I had the fillet steak. Both were cooked to perfection. The service was also fantastic with very helpful and professional attention from the waiters. Will definitely be returning soon and recommend to everyone to visit

Very disappointed with the experience (maybe we had been spoilt by the excellent service with Cote at Norwich) The food is fantastic, the service left a lot to be desired. We felt we were interrupting their social life, felt very much in the way. Will find a restaurant with some ambiance next time we want to treat ourselves, friends and family

Had a lovely evening here. Food was delicious, would recommend the cheese soufflé! My steak was cooked perfectly and everyone else’s food look really good. Service was really friendly, Matthew was great in welcoming us and making sure we were well looked after. Will definitely be back soon!

Having visited several Cote restaurants over the years and always enjoyed the experience a visit while in Chelmsford seemed natural. The expectation is a nice ambiance, comfortable seating and, most importantly, good food. Sadly on this occasion we left feeling underwhelmed and very disappointed. The greeting of an abrupt, “two, sit where you want” wasn’t the best of starts as indeed was the equally abrupt “we don’t accept cash just cards ok” whilst leaving the menu. The food was equally short on pleasantry, the boeuf bourguignon looked like it has just come out of the microwave, I’m guessing that the warning about a warm plate was a clue. I don’t expect warm plates, I expect hot plates. The plate lacked a red jus, the mash was almost liquid however at least the beef was chunky. Overall lacked taste and seasoning. The moules frite was reasonable and certainly plentiful, I wouldn’t say it’s the best I’ve had but then again not the worst. It was just alright. Again service was lacking, no one bothered to ask if everything was alright and I gave up waiting for salt and vinegar for the frites. I think it will be a long time before we venture into a Cote restaurant again, there’s plenty of alternatives which will probably show a bit more interest in their customers.

Went for Brunch as an early Mother's Day treat with family. Food delicious as always and excellent service. Very busy .

Called in for early evening fixed price menu. Generally food and service very good but waitress dropped some of the starter on the floor in her rush to serve. It wasn't much food but I thought she should has taken the dish back to the kitchen if only to rearrange it if not adding missing items. Main and dessert very good. Would return.

Food was fine. Welcome was fine. Noone cared after that. No check back, didn't ask me if my meal was okay, no communication whatsoever when I paid and this looked like the manager? A guy called Matthew on the receipt. Happy to take my money, and bounded over with the card machine ready without asking me if I was happy to pay a tip.. but not happy to give any communication. Poor.

Definitely one of my favourite places to go for a meal. Always a wonderful experience with great food and extraordinary service.

5 Star hotel service at 2 Star prices in the middle of Chelmsford. A wonderful , fresh ,clean and surprisingly vibrant brasserie. As we sat down the waitress asked if we wanted drinks and hey presto 4 rather good cocktails appeared as we perused the menu. The prix fixe has something for everyone and is exceptional value.

Always my place of choice for date night or special occasions Went for a day time date with our 18 month old and we were well cared for. Our daughter really enjoyed her meal and our food was great too!

Amazing food, service and atmosphere. Got the special which was very nice but the serving was a bit small for the price. Nice selection of wine and beer and I noticed they had large round tables so we will be going back. Other dishes looked perfect so can’t wait to go back and try. The chocolate mousse was incredible and would highly recommend.

Excellent quality food and service reasonably quick and well organised

This must be our 10th visit to Cote and once again we enjoyed excellent service and food. If you are looking for authentic French food then this is the place to come in the Chelmsford area.

Painfully slow service, incredibly rude waiter and manager and a waitress who would flat ignore you trying to get attention. Food was way below par, ambience was frosty and almost hostile, terrible experience, wouldn't return.

Poor service, but food was reasonable. From the gruff, only card no cash opener in broken English, you were made to feel uneasy. On to the wait, even for the drinks. It was not busy when we arrived, but we were treated to the full, we are exceptionally busy mode, even when the tables were empty. We opted for the fixed menu, and the food was good (although the wife did have a bit of reaction to the fish pie!!!!) We didn’t feel welcome, or attained too throughout our visit, just part of the churn. Despite dropping £300 on the restaurant, it felt more like a fast food experience than anything near good dining.

Fantastic food. As a coeliac, it was nice to not have so many options but the waiting staff be so well educated (i.e. fries in different fryers and no cross-contamination) without having to check or throw a massive booklet for me to look through.

The food arrived very fast - my burger and fries were warm at best. Waiter took away and it came back with very hot fries and even colder burger!

Our visit the Cote took on the character of the Curate’s Egg, of the starters Fran’s Crab Maisonette she found to be of her taste, my Calamari was nicely cooked but the Provençal Mayonnaise did nothing to enhance the dish for me. For our main dishes Fran was delighted by her choice of the Breton Fish Stew, it was interesting and thoroughly to her taste. My selection of the Poulet Breton Gratin was not a good experience, partially due to the chicken being served on the bone, and I detest having to carve my meat before getting to eat it. Additionally my experiences of Gratins is they come with a topping of potatoes, or a covering of some sort, mine did not. Instead the skin had been roasted on to form a covering to the flesh, another pet hate of mine. The creamy sauce was very thin and did nothing to enhance the meal. Fran was happy, I very much less so and found the whole episode very Curates Egg. On the basis the Fish Stew was good and my dislike of the Gratin has to be partially down to my own foibles, I could be persuaded to visit Cote again but that would be sometime very much in the far distant future.

Excellent meal and service for our early office Christmas lunch of 12 people. Very accommodating in allowing us a four hour slot to relax and enjoy our gathering without rushing. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Can't wait to go again.

Manager / front-of-house guy was pretty unwelcoming. We were told we would have to leave promptly at a certain time even though the restaurant was half empty when we arrived and also when we left. Food: disappointing.

Our waitress was Rugile, who remembered us from our last visit and was very attentive without being in any way overbearing. The restaurant always has a really lovely buzz about it. The food is both exceptional and exceptional value. And even if we haven’t been there for awhile, the warmth of welcome is always generous. I also like the fact that you get to the time to enjoy your meal without being hurried. Also, the layout of the restaurant is such that you have space to enjoy your food without being crowded by other diners. We’ve been going to Cote for years And have never once been disappointed.
