Costa Coffee Mutley in Plymouth

These premises are now bring used by a new vegan business called the Veg Patch. Launched this week and we came in on Monday morning for tea and snacks. Seemed well supported by some lively customers many of whom seemed to be friends of the owners. Very pleasant. Staff slightly formal but bound to loosen up very quickly. A very welcome new choice on Mutley Plain.

Closed abruptly a few months ago. The window is papered or boarded over and there is an agent’s sign. Mutley Plain is not short of independent coffee shops and a new one opened roughly opposite a week ago and days before that another just around the corner in Hyde Park Road.

When you are in need of warming up where better than Costa Coffee. Good friendly Service, Free WiFi, plenty of choice on Drinks and Snacks but above all else great tasting smooth coffee.

We paid a visit to Costa on Mutley Plain and as seems to be the norm all was spotlessly clean, good friendly service from the Duty Baristas and smooth as silk Coffees. Free WiFi allows you to keep up with your day and there are Covid measures in place.

We paid a visit to Costa Coffee on Mutley Plain and we’re well impressed with the friendliness of the Baristas on duty. Very helpful and certainly made for a decent sales person but in an entertaining way. The visual impact of the food displays were very good and you could see that the staff cared for the job they undertook. We ordered and enjoyed a Latte and Cappuccino which were freshly prepared and very nice.

I usually try to get my caffeine fix in independent coffee shops. But the ones in Plymouth have been hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis and were mostly still shut during my visit. Coffee shops, whose business model depends on high turnover, are so vulnerable right now. That applies to the big chains too, and even Costa are feeling the pinch. The branch on Mutley Plain is small for a Costa. It's cosy and clean, the furniture and decor attractive. But to ensure social distancing, they've had to put crossed tapes on half the tables, meaning they can run at only reduced capacity. It was raining during my visit, and customers were turned away or had to sit outside in the rain. I didn't linger over my coffee, so as to free up my table. Nobody pressured me, though. I can't see the branch making their normal profit under such constraints. The staff were absolutely wonderful. The waitress was friendly as well as on the ball for COVID precautions. The guy at the till was lively and jolly, which made up for the perspex screen between us. He encouraged me to try a new blend they were selling. A genuine guy, putting his heart and soul into the job. It was a lovely cup of coffee, as it always seems to be when I visit this chain. Costa's coffee's on the mellow side; but that suits me fine, especially when, as in this case, the texture and heat are just right. I wish the staff here well. Hope things improve and they can keep their jobs in these precarious times for coffee shops.

Call in here often when in the area visiting my son. The same as all others really, great coffee, tasty snacks , friendly service.

We paid a second visit to Costa and we found the Mutley operation very popular, efficient, clan and course that great tasting Costa Coffee. Staff were friendly and delivered our drinks to us even though they were very busy.

We paid one of the many Costa Coffee Outlets in Plymouth, this one in the Mutley area. Very busy on this Sunny Late morning Tuesday. Service from the Barista was very friendly & efficient and even though the place was very busy he still told us to take a seat and he served out Coffee at our Table. Our Coffees were very tasty and hot. Good of Food & Drinks choice on the Menu at a reasonable price for Plymouth. Plenty of seating available and the only criticism I can offer is that there is only one toilet for every customer and when busy - as it was on our visit - it can be Inconvenient - Apologies for the Pun😂😂

Since moving to the area in July. This has become my “local” 🤗 The staff are just exceptional. The place is always tidy. Could not ask for a better place ... thank you guys xxx

Went twice over the weekend to break up the toils of flat cleaning. Clean and tidy, friendly staff, nice treats and good coffee.

I like to frequent the Costa Coffee cafes as they're modern and the cafe is comfortable. It's a cafe you can relax in and read the newspapers they provide in a rack for customer use.The staff work exceptionally hard because of the amount of customers who use their cafe.They have a selection of hot and cold snacks, including cakes and crisps.I personally would like to see healthier food and drink options.The choices for a healthy food is limited. I usually get soup, or a sandwich but I check the calories on the packet. I think they are under staffed because the people who work behind the counter don't always have the time to clear and clean tables. The toilets are never very clean either. I would like to see a nicer looking toilets to match the standard of the cafe areas which are very nice. Costa Coffee is one of our best cafes but I would just like to see little improvements. Fabulous cafes!

Popped in for coffee and cake whilst shopping with family. Ordered 2 coffees and 2 cakes. Offered special Colombian coffee at an extra 75p per cup ! Declined and had regular flat whites. Coffee was ok - nothing special and not overly hot. Cakes were both stale and dry. Wasted in excess of £9 on substandard fare. Poor for a chain surrounded by competition. Will give it a miss in future.

very popular in mornings but very accommodating and helpful staff serve up good coffee with a smile which is much appreciated when you are working hard and in need of a quick boost.

It would appear that whichever Costa Outlet you visit the Coffee & Cold Drinks are of a High Standard. We paid a visit to the Mutley Costa and sat inside in Air Conditioned Cool Area. Nice friendly welcome from the Enthusiastic Barista and the Tables were all clean and clear of empty cups - not something you always find - with comfortable seating. Our Drinks were the terrific and cooling Mint Chocolate Chip Frostino each and these were freshly prepared and in Glasses. Really good visit and Costa have a gem in this Outlet.

Whilst visiting Mutley Plain we dropped into this Costa for a relaxing cuppa. The coffee was great. The service was fantastic but relaxation out of the question due to the noisy background Muzak....shame!

IMO this is the best Costa Coffee venue in the city.

I had some time on my hands in Plymouth and was looking for a comfortable seat for a while. Costa came to the rescue. The whole experience was good. Friendly knowledgeable staff, good coffee, good ambiance, good place to watch the world go by for a while.

This is by far the best Costa coffee shop in Plymouth. Always happy and friendly staff, who go above and beyond! Family friendly atmosphere and long opening hours for whenever you need a caffeine hit!!

Really good customer service, best I have seen in a Costa store. Slight mistake in one of the drinks but they were happy to fix it, no questions asked! Good atmosphere and location. Much better than the busier stores located in the city centre.

Nice and clean, good aircon, staff were proactive and chatty. Good wifi and the coffee was nice. Would definitely go again.

Clean tidy shop, good service, good coffee, over priced food. I vist 3 or 4 times a week. The staff are always happy and cheerful

Although it's a chain coffee shop, the service I received and the taste of the coffee was outstanding. Very clean tables and work station and happy smiling faces from the staff and manager. Highly recommend!!! :)

I was on my way to work and really fancied one of there Christmas coffees! I had the toffee latte, which was amazing. The service was great and the staff were friendly. If I had to say something that wasn't so good, it would have to be the tables, as a number of them were full of washing up to do and some customers were sat with 2 trays of empty mugs. Apart from this, I had an overall very good experience! Go grab your choice of Christmas coffees!!

Great atmosphere, not as busy as other costas, quiet. Allways lots of spare seating. Staff are polite. Fast service.

Just to say this is the most pleasant Costa in Plymouth... Great location for people watching, and the staff are very friendly - clearly a close team. If there's a queue; take a seat and your order will be brought over.

The best Costa in Plymouth! Very clean and welcoming compared to the others like the one in Marsh Mills. It also stays open until late on Sunday's!! Costa coffee Mutley is the Costa to go to!

As always cannot fault the very polite & friendly staff who make a great coffee. Everyone that came in whilst we where there appear to enjoy the atmosphere. I have only ever visited this one on a Sunday but I'm sure throughout the week the service is just as great as I have always experienced

I have been to this Costa a few times since it opened and it is always comfortable and clean with very good service. It is about the only one in Plymouth that is a reasonable size, which was brought home to me today when I tried the new drive through one at Parkway/Plympton which was crowded and the service was awful there.

Staff are lovely and chatty they don't bother you, it's cosy and clean. The food ain't great but that's costas fault not this particular one!!

This is the best Costa in Plymouth without a shadow of a doubt.

Staff do well considering they are rushed off their feet. Not enough seating, queue layout means if you're waiting for an order you're practically sat on someone's table. Lovely coffees though, very clean, friendly staff

No particular character, just knocks out the usual in regulated pre-determined manner. Polite staff. Average to above average prices for coffee and cake. Not really any quiet or secluded corners where you could have a conversation or meeting without being watched and overheard by lots of other customers.

We always drink in Costa in the city centre, so when one opened up on Mutley Plain closer to home, we decided to give it a try. The shop is warm and welcoming, cosy in the colder months. It's always clean and well set-out. The staff though are the selling point. They are brilliant - always smiling, always going the extra mile to make everyones experience more enjoyable. Can't fault them, and they're a total asset to the company.

After a tough morning of early starts, hospital appointment and dentist was lovely to go to Costa. As always the staff were amazing and the drinks perfect. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Love it and will be back soon.

I love costa coffee but the other costa branches in the city center are always very busy and a bit hectic so I now use this costa for my coffee fix. The staff are generally very friendly especially the manager, the toilets are always clean and so is the tables. Good job mutley crew!

This Costa on Mutley plain had the most friendly, helpful staff of all the Costas in Plymouth. They can't help the location.

Think I will stick to Mutleys Cafe a few doors up for better quality and priced food and drink. Saw the Costa staff in Mutleys Cafe. Says it all!!!

Don't agree with some previous reviewers who suggest its dirty or unfriendly. It's better decorated than any of the other coffee placed on Mutley Plain. But its a bit dull. Uniformly like all Costas. It's also right on one of the busiest light controlled junctions round here so sitting outside, as some were when I came, is dirty noisy and not remotely pleasant.

We had a quick coffee in this new Costa branch, Coffee was pretty much OK and service was quick, this place is ok for a really quick cuppa or takeaway, I wouldn't want to sit in for any long period of time.On the whole pretty much what you expect.

The entire outside of the place is covered in fags, everywhere fags. That's fag buts. Disgusting. if they have't the decency to keep the place tidy then I cannot take any risk in drinking or eating anything from there. Dirty place! Filthy!

Visited this place on Mutley Plain today - ugh!

Not what I would normally try but had to come to Mutley for an event at the busy baptist church. This Costa is bigger than it looks from outside is staffed by friendly people and seems to attract a reasonable mixed bunch of customers . The expected and feared traffic noise was not apparent.

Don't usually go in for the American style franchise coffee shops but this new arrival, the first proper coffee place on this very busy arterial shopping street, does have the useful features of having predictable moderate standard and universally priced tea, coffee, cold drinks and snack foods. During it's opening couple of weeks the negatives have shown through. This is a very busy junction with frequently changing lights and a right hand turning that produces slow clearing queues of standing traffic. There are some seats outside and several behind in this narrow small shop unit. Having never been one to sit or stand like a zombie mesmerised by cars and buses we chose inside. It's OK. Markedly better quality than the iconic 24/7 greasy spoon some two blocks south but that place is vital overnight and very early. This Costa is alright. I hope it may have the indirect effect of bringing the few other cafes and eating places up to speed.
