Costa Coffee in St. Helens

Friendly staff and usually good coffee, but recently noticed an inconsistency in temperature and volume . Some have arrived barely warm. And some have been handed over with about an inch of froth instead of a full glass....

Same old same old. I had been twice lately and my free coffee or £2 off food didn't work..again!!

Grubby, messy tables, unkempt. Dreadful place.

Only popped in for two takeaway coffees but can’t get out of my head how lovely and cheerful the staff seemed even with the place being so busy. I went in about 10:40am yesterday morning (13/8) and the blonde lady on the espresso machine was such a delight. Not only have I not seen someone work that fast but her joy was just infectious. I tried looking at her badge several times but couldn’t quite catch it, wish I’d asked her name but hopefully this can get back to her!

Reduced by one star after last visit due to slow service and general untidiness of shop. Yes, it was busier than usual, but that's no excuse for dirty cups and other dishes being left on tables this making it virtually impossible to find a seat.

Clean and quick friendly staff and service

Not our usual Costa, but it's close to some of the big shops in that area, so it is very handy. It's a great coffee shop with lovely staff.

Always had a great experience at this costa and think it’s the best one in St Helens. The staff are always extremely nice and welcoming, the food is nice, and drinks are always spot on. This time we got 2 hot chocolates and they were great. The atmosphere in there can be a bit loud but it’s never unpleasant or uncomfortable, you are normally able to get a seat, it’s generally clean and tidy, the staff to the best to keep cleaning the tables but then it’s busy it can sometimes take a few minutes and this is to be expected. It’s nice to see that the staff have a good relationship with many members of the public that come in and call them by the first name clearly they care about the people and don’t just want to serve drinks.

Best costa coffee outlet! I travel a lot on business and by far this is the most friendly outlet.

Slow service, no much choice for food

Bigger portions than the place access the road. Cheaper too. Costa seem to keep improving every time l go.

Refuse to make a make a takeaway coffee and serve it with no plastic lid. Tell customers that a customer once burnt themself at one of their 2500 other cafes. Sit in and you can be trusted with no lid. Bad sustainability. Bad customer service. Trust your customers. Use cardboard lids if you really must force customer to have a lid #nolid

well what can i say its a costa great caramel latte only thing is expensive but you pay for what you get great coffee.

The staff in this particular Costa are friendly, chatty and so pleasant. Often busy, the cafe has a lovely atmosphere and is clean and well maintained.

To start the review I will explain a few things first. Not a regular of these overpriced coffee shops, had an opinion about them prior to walking in. I only went in as I had to wait for an hour for my bike to be fixed in Evans cycles, was cold out and thought I would grab a coffee and watch the world go by. Instead, bought a coffee, had to clear the table myself, as you can see Im not the only one, other customers doing the same (see picture, crossed out face for privacy). Staff 100% focused on revenue, been here for 40 minutes and not been from behind counter once to clean, collect or move dirty dishes from tables, ledges or other flat surfaces. Third member of staff appears and quickly goes behind counter to serve rather than clear tables. For a premium brand the cleanliness is terrible. Coffee tastes ok though. Maybe I picked a particularly bad time on early Sunday afternoon but every occupied and vacant table is dirty. Need to do better

The first time here and the staff were so sweet, helpful and funny... the cake was delicious, and the hot chocolate yum 😋

Busy Sunday but was served in a good timely manner, all staff on shift where friendly, they do delicious toast and jam

Nice costa, service is quick even with a queue. Staff are really friendly, and helpful. I spilt my coffee as soon as I got it and the staff made me a fresh one straight away..thanks so much!

Nice play to take a break. Not the cheapest place to go really. Don't think I'd go without free drinks I get.

Floor not clean ,tables not cleared when we arrived ,no hot food available only hot drinks and cake not acceptable first thing in the morning

It's a nice friendly atmosphere the staff are great and always warm and polite with there service. I am a regular customer and I enjoy the establishment and their coffee

I felt like stupid after asking for the breakfast meal cost 2.50£ end up paying 10.60 . I've told to take what was on the top shelf and she said what I've chosen wasn't included on the breakfast. I asked to pay it separately and make a better deal. The girl sent me to seat down. I felt stupid and intimidated.

It's a Great location with free parking.. I am very pleased to see it's vastly changed positively since I'd first visited in 2015.. Friendly, helpful and I think great staff.. Food always looks fresh, well presented, wide variety and apple supply... My choice of drink is a Soya cappuccino which has always been as expected ( I visit Costa UK South- North.. ) tables are cleared regularly and their toilets have been on both occasions clean and well stocked.. Definitely will be going back as they're open later till 19.00- wish more Northern Coffee houses were open till 21.00+

Always busy but good, fast and friendly service. I love the winter hot chocolate flavours but a little disappointed this year they aren't doing the Forest Fruit one they typically do each year.

Just a you expect a Costa to be, generally clean but lots of uncleared tables, everything else was good.

Got a lovely tgtg bag from here with a choice of pastry.

Normally great service, although it was a rather busy Sunday morning. Ordered drinks and food, had to remind staff of the food order after nothing arrived after a 20 mins wait and others who arrived after us were served. Best was we only order toast! But the staff did rectify after I asked.

I like the Costa in the next in Liverpool best but are all nice great when you get the offers as well

Very busy today, but staff still cheerful and attentive. Coffee and cakes delicious as usual. Tables cleared quickly, ensuring there was always somewhere to sit as soon as a customer left.

Great coffee BUT Barista had no idea that there was a difference in ORDINARY PORRIDGE and GLUTEN FREE PORRIDGE. Actually there was NO GF Porridge at all - shame as I needed something GF for Breakfast. Had to resort to a GF Flapjack instead.

They had no coffee machine broken. Cannot believe they only have one . Staff very friendly. I did my office notes 2 hrs Still no coffee . -;) Also Wi-Fi very bad. Thursday last week.

Usual fayre. We are regular Costa people so that says it all....

Went in to buy some coffee beans. Store was very clean, and most people where outside in the sun. Staff where very friendly and helpful. Maybe the best Costa in the area (of which there are 3 😂)

Love Costa! The introduction of drive thrus in my opinion is a stroke of genius! But then came CLICK AND COLLECT!!! This is a game changer and highly recommended!

Only grabbed a takeaway latte, so wasn't really in there too long. The place was set out pretty well with the members of staff trying really hard to keep people spaced out, unfortunately some people don't care and weren't listening! Staff were working hard, and were helpful and friendly.

Never had a problem in this Costa. Not many seats available thanks to Covid now but that's not the shops fault. Nice staff and the coffee is perfectly.fine. Nice and quiet later afternoon when I visited.

They have a MAGIC PLATE in this costa. After making me stand outside the store with only 3 people within a 12m line inside, I had to place my costa card on a plate while the attendant stood back. I felt soiled. She then stepped forward and picked up same card, after the magic plate had sanitised it. Idiots. Costa have lost it.

Good coffee as always, social distancing means very few seats are available inside but there are a few outdoor tables too.

So ridiculously overpriced, but with the Eat out government scheme it's worth it. Clean and friendly enough staff

11 am and very little food, no toast, no teacakes, poor selection of cakes, walked out
