5 stars because of the lovely staff this morning.

South bound to catch very early train. Pleasant exchange with barista who told me about the breakfast meal deal items. I got a flat white which was surprisingly good and an almond croissant that was tasty and portable. This was not included in the meal deal but not bothered as on expenses LOL. Enjoyed both on my way to Leeds on a great TPE train.

Latte awful at Durham station I had to change the coffee ! Staff was good and willing to change

Northbound side. Gentleman this morning made a perfect flat white oat milk. Had a lemon muffin, delicious. Blueberry also good. They however never have that breakfast wrap in stock it seems. Atmosphere is what you'd guess for a train station, but quiet and warm.

The woman works there always make me feel unwelcome and I avoid using it as much as I can if I find her working at the counter. The way she looks at customers seems she’s either (always) having a bad day or every single customer is simply bothering her.

Very poor. They said that they do not stock any vegan sandwiches, which is frankly not acceptable at this point. The female staff were okay but borderline hostile, and I saw them pat a dog and then proceed to handle food and drink items without first washing their hands. Avoid.

I use the north side Costa maybe once or twice a week. I'd maybe go more if the staff weren't so miserable. I always feel like I'm putting them out. You never get a hello or a smile. One woman just looks down her nose at you. It's quite expensive but I wouldn't mind handing my money over if I felt like a valued customer. I've spent a lot of money over many years. Be polite or get a new job if this one doesn't work for you.

Remarkable service - I nearly missed my train and the staff here made sure to be considerate and not make small talk or any delays. The train station staff should learn from these remarkable ladies when treating customers with care and respect!

60 minutes after opening time on South bound platform staff there but they had the shutter down despite customers waiting. Greggs open so saved the day for me - husband left without coffee waiting for his train (but LNER buffet car was open).

Coffee is coffee, so no problem there. Unpleasantly argumentative red haired lady serving coffee was a problem. Iced white Americano was served with sugar added in which I didn't ask for nor was asked it about. When I came back, I was met with a barrage of loud arguments that this is how it's meant to be served. Durham coffee shop must be unique, cause this is not how this drink is served in London or elsewhere in the UK or other countries and you're always asked if you want sugar added anyway, unless the drink is already meant to be sweet. Retraining in customer service combined with a change in attitude is recommended.

I always fall for it, I pay £3.00 ish for a paper cup full of warm liquid that does not even resemble coffee.

By far the rudest staff I've ever come across (North bound platform).

Costa Coffee sells an amazing soft espresso and their desserts are pretty good as well, particularly the chocolate brownie. Their products are high quality as would be expected of Costa. However, since it is inside the rail station there isn’t really enough places where you can sit and take your coffee or food peacefully. This is more of a take it to go and you enjoy your product on the train (or if you just arrived Durham and would like to enjoy something while you reach your destination). Besides that, the service isn’t really that good, wether it’s because of the same situation of being inside a rail station or not, you can find yourself dealing with a not so happy employer.

Its open at 5:30AM most days.... 5:30AM !!!! Awesome! The coffee is decent too, some people have reviewed saying uncomfortable seating and limited selection!! WHO CARE's!!! You'll be sitting on a train journey, STAND UP, and if you don't like the selection then be prepared and take something from home, its a great service for such a small quaint station, thank you Costa and thank you Durham train station...

Drop in here often on way to London. Its a Costa. You know exactly what your going to get. Northbound platform one ironically bigger, better and has less people using.

Terrible customer service from the barista working on the day we were at the station last week. I'd barely started saying my order when they'd turned around without any acknowledgement of hearing me, which left us very confused as to what was going on. The drinks were standard costa drinks, nothing to brag about but nice for on the go and the tiffin was tasty.

What you need from a train station coffee shop. Small with limited selection, but efficient.

A lifesaver for my frequent early morning train journeys, which need a decent amount of caffeine in order to be remotely tolerable. Always good service. Food is probably overpriced but at 6.30am I doubt you will care.

Service was good, coffee was alright, seating area was uncomfortable.
