Costa Coffee in Gateshead

Awww brilliant service today, staff friendly, clean & tidy - coffee and cake absolutely perfect and well needed after a very disappointing KFC prior! Thanks again!

I would not worry about face masks or covid here, you are more likely to catch the bubonic plague, the seating is crawling, see photo, it looks as if someone had pissed, shat, vomitted, died and putrified on the chairs, nothing more than a cesspit here. Coffee, watery, in heavy over sized bowls served by a face picking server. If you want an early death or minimal , gut rot, this is your place.

Ordered on the app for collection, went to store for pick up as I have done before and was told no, try the other. So I did and they were super helpful inside next and my order was for the one next to harrods beauty as I thought. The women without name badge on was very rude. She told me it wasn’t on her system and she would not make my drinks even though it was on my app in front of her. Another member of staff said she would make them and when I said one was decaf she proceeded to tell me her stuff was out the back to make a decaf coffee, everything seemed to be a problem. No need for being so rude

If it was not for my visit today I would have always given this Costa a 5 star. The young staff in there are brilliant and friendly as we normally visit about 4 times a week. Unfortunately my wife and I got food poisoning from there on a visit on 23 Feb. My wife was ill (sick/cramps etc) within 40 minutes of visiting which went on for a few hours and I was the same only a bit later. We had not eaten or drank anywhere else so it was pretty easy to narrow down. I went to see one of the girls a few days later who was very apologetic (very professional). We went back a few days later and again today. I happened to mention the circumstances to Michelle Anderson the store manager (!?). She immediately went on the defensive and blatently said that I was wrong, we didn't get poisoning from there...it was impossible! I defended myself and said we actually did. She would not take any explanation...she had an excuse for everything and more or less said we were lying. My wife came in and asked her for her name and at this point she became passive aggresive, sarcastic, arrogant and polite to the point you knew she was taking the pi**. What a disgusting specimen for a human this woman is. I'm looking forward to the telephone call she receives from HO

The staff were great and very helpful. Order was wrong and the girl just went to make another drink but, my boy just had what she'd made. No issue or problem. Great service

Has to be the worst Costa I have used. It was quiet and they took an age to acknowledge and serve. Then the drink took an age to make and was half full and also the food was under cooked. I use alot of costas but not this one again.

Just over busy and not enough staff really. The staff who are there are lovely, but I bet the poor sods don't have time to pee! Theres always a massive cue and ages to be served.

One of the few Costa's that still have comfy chairs, same food and drink as every other Costa but here they actively clear tables, which is a rarity for Costa.

Nice relaxing cafe with good food and coffee as you would expect from Costa. Staff were polite and friendly. They have facilities for babies ie high chairs and you can sit inside or on the mall or take away. Ideal place for a short chill out and coffee. The cafe is also wheelchair accessible

Visited the site today. 24th Aug 2023, by a trainee, he pushed the simple origin coffee with no explanation of the ingredients other than its a smooth coffee, did not mention the almonds and honey in the coffee I attempted to enquire about the amount of almonds in the coffee but the trainee already rand up the purchase, there was no notice and information about informing customers the amount of alminds and honey in that product which can be very dangerous to people with any alleges to almonds etc very poor practice will not go to any costa, again

Been here a fair few times, large selection of drinks (hot and cold) and also a decent selection of food options (again hot and cold) place kept clean and organised. I enjoyed my vanilla latte as well as my hot Mac and cheese - left a bit of a sour taste when I realised I should have took out a second mortgage to fund it 🤣 expensive but tasty and decent quality so maybe makes up for it? 🥴😆

Most tables needed cleaning. Staff did the bare minimum.

Racist attitude from staff, no swivel sticks , brown sugar, no serviettes. Take out order delivered in a sit-in plate. Its only 12:35hrs on Sunday. Guess Starbucks is the way to go.

Too busy talking to each other. I was the only customer in. No one else in the process of being served. Stood there 2 mins while they talked utter garbage with each other then left without ordering. They don't even acknowledge a customer is there. Very bad practise, poor manners and not a good way to go forward.. won't be back.

Bought a bacon bap by accident as it was put in the wrong place and I'm vegetarian. Fair enough my mistake. When I said to the guy he just abruptly said "well that's the one you gave me" and didn't offer to sort me another one I'd have happily paid just didn't have time to wait another 10 minutes in the queue. Just rude and disappointing really.

Love this costa lovely manageress and team great customer service everytime .we always pop in few times a week before seeing a movie .matty is amazing always puts me a swan on top of my flat.white!

Long wait in queue of eight people waiting to be served. One barista trying his best to cope with orders. He was polite and apologetic so earned Costa a star. Difficult to find a clean table to sit down. Cake was dried out but coffee was good. Toilet filthy and tissues blocking the sink. No toilet paper. Urine all over the seat and the floor. Very disappointing.

Very good service first time but went up to get some water and the young lady was left by herself to cope with the customers.

There didn't seem to be a shift leader about. The queue was massive for have two tills, ovens and coffee machines and having 5 members of staff on. There was one lady taking in dishes however walked passed 3 dirty tables without clearing them. Staff too busy chatting to notice oven beeping and not properly following Allergen issues by using wrong chopping boards.

Disappointed..with service I was not asked politely to move up after I had paid just told " move up there" i know we all have off days but i feel Costa need some staff training! mess all over the floor tables not wiped and it was a quiet time .. at leasr they did wipe milk nozzle for steaming milk with disposable paper..unlik 2 other branches who wiped bench top with a 'j' cloth then milk nozzle!! Changed my order to tea that day and did say i think you need a clean cloth...but was glared at. I did work in catering/ barista trained and we were told to wipe nozzle with disposable paper wipes .I had my health and safety certificate..not sure some if the staff do now. Always used to enjoy Costa..

Massive queues as to be expected especially on a Saturday. Prices are extortionate and really not worth it to be honest.

Seats are stained and obviously never cleaned. You have to clear a table of plates etc if you want to sit at it..short of staff perhaps. The glass is filthy and stained with god knows what!!. Everything is dirty...might be worth while employing a proper cleaner. Come on Costa get a grip..CLEAN up your act.....

Filthy seats ,black stained fabric I was disgusted to say the least .This place needs a deep clean, full stop .Xmas music was too loud and the air conditioning is always always too cold or blowing into wrong direction. Staff are cheerful enough so it must be further up the chain of command that keeps the loud music on and the chairs filthy.Asked for extra hot drink but it was still lukewarm ,just saving time when it's busy .

They do nice drinks and food there.

Queue was very slow to go down but it was worth it. It was the cleanest I've seen it in a long time and the staff were so friendly! Social distancing rules were followed and they made sure people were standing on the social distance spots on the floor.

Not enough staff on, and waiting over 20 minutes for a takeaway coffee. Absolutely ridiculous.

Over priced and nothing special.

Sanitizer at door was empty at 9.15am. Only 2 members of staff on duty 1 was busy counting change. Customers were clearing tables for themselves with no sanitising being done. No contact details taken for tracing, we will not be back.

Always feel comfortable in this Costa and the staff are all really pleasant, me and my youngest daughter always call in when we nip to the shops she's costing me a fortune with her love of Costa 😂

Very cosy, tasty food and drink

Cheerful staff despite the difficult circumstances. Social distancing was good with staff giving customers clear directions and help.

Lovely experience with very helpful staff cleaning tables quickly for the next customer. Coffee is great and they take time to doit perfect. From this coster you have a view of the people walking past and the balcony gives view of the shop below. Great for people watching.
