My wife and I tend to visit Costa outlets as the coffee is generally decent and the outlet at Peacehaven was no exception. We were there on a bitterly cold afternoon and it was great to go into the warm environment of this nicely laid out Costa. A young chap, named Chris, took our order and was exceptionally helpful finding a snack my wife could eat. She has an uncommon food allergy and it is often hard to find something suitable, especially where the staff is either unknowledgeable, unhelpful or both. Chris (the person shown in the Santa hat in the photo) is one of those rare individuals who goes out of their way to assist and make customers feel welcome. I hope Costa will value such a good employee.

I ordered a hot chocolate today from costa and this is what I received, it has a layer of a gooey oily substance and has no chocolate in it whatsoever I’m completely appalled and when I called to ask what this was I had a rude worker speak to me and as she told me to wait I could hear them all being rude between each other not knowing I can still hear, the worker then went on to end the call on me abruptly

Ordered my drink and waited and waited and waited. Then a extremely rude girl with blonde hair asked in a rude manner in I had ordered. Yes I have and I did say what I had ordered and paid for. I was met with I don't have your ticket so what do you want me to do. Never in my life have I been to such an awful rude coffee shop. It is not my fault you lost my ticket but thank god it showed on my banking app that I had paid. I would recommend giving this place a wide berth.

Wednesday 8th September and we visited here for a coffee. As we entered we were struck with how spacious it was and the decor. It was colourful bright, modern well maintained and very clean. We ordered two flat whites, £2.80 each. Our order was taken by Alex and prepared by Jack, two extremely polite and efficient young men. As always the coffee was what we have come to expect from Costa. Good coffee, excellent service and a good ambiance, this could be the best Costa we have been to.

It's a taproom in a working brewery. You expect a certain compromise on stuff like space, layout, service etc but all of this seems done particularly badly here. The bar is too small for the number of tables leading to long queues and the 2 toilets are next to the bar so the queues get mixed up. It was busy the Saturday night I was there and there was 2 staff as far as I could see which meant long waits and messy tables. In a place that already feels a bit spontaneous, it just felt disorganised and tatty. The music was also both non-stop and loud. It is saved by the beer. Beak brew terrific beer and everything I had was as expected - hazy, rich and very tasty. Were I to be critical I'd mark it down for running out of the cask option before I even got there (it's your own brewery fellas? How could that happen??) and having 2 Stouts that were 10%+ rather than having 1 a bit lighter maybe? They also didn't have any glasswear and offered plastic. I hate plastic glasses at the best of times and bought a glass instead. The food truck on the day was great but they'd also run out of 2 of their 3 offerings by 7.30? I think Beak might be suffering from being too popular? It was busy. The crowd seemed younger than me on average and I'm sure loved the banging house music. They're probably used to queueing for everything too. For this slightly older bloke who is a massive craft beer fan, it wasn't quite what I was expecting. I traveled to Lewes (a very pretty place by the look of it) specifically to go to Beak but, if you asked me if I'd do it again, the answer would be no. Sadly.
