My mother and I decided to go out for food. The food was excellent, and our waitress Shannon went above and beyond. She was completely run off her feet but was attentive to every single customer we could see from our table! Well done to this young lady!!

We came in on Saturday and the waitress Kate was amazing and so helpful!! She seemed to be the only one doing any work ! The small blonde woman seem to have some sort of chip on her shoulder for some reason But Kate was good and made our lunch a great one so thank you Kate!!

Randomly popped in for lunch and we were immediately welcomed with a super friendly “hello” by numerous colleagues! It’s a nice little spot and, although we went for burgers off the menu, the Sunday carvery looked great!

Came here today with my partner and two daughters. Ordered through the app and the food was on our table within minutes. Tasted amazing 👌 Louise was brilliant with the girls, they loved the bear 😊 thank you so much we will definitely be returning

We booked the Margam Deer for my dad’s 70th birthday. We all ordered different meals, everything came out, hot, well presented and everything tasted wonderful! We were served by Kate, and she was a wonderful waitress. So friendly, and kept checking in on us to see how we were enjoying our meal. We will definitely be returning customers.

Called in for lunch as we had a 30% off mains voucher. It was fairly quiet so easy to get a table. The ordering process was place your order at the bar. There was only one person serving and unfortunately I was behind a group of 5 ladies ordering and all paying separately! Would have been quicker if another member of staff had been able to quickly jump on another till, but however the lady that served me did apologise for the wait. I had the chicken and bacon salad and my daughter had hunters chicken. I have to say the salad was absolutely delicious,the dressing with added seeds and endame beans was so tasty. The portion size was generous and I really enjoyed it. My daughter enjoyed her hunter’s chicken too. All in all it was a lovely lunchtime break. The cost with two drinks included was just over £30.

Service from the beginning was awful. I had to wait at the bar for a very long time to get served. Other customers were being served at the other side of the bar in between... poor to say the least. Carvery wasn't half bad once I got someone to serve me and then he had to bring out; fresh roast potatoes, yorkshire puds and gravy. We had to wait just under 25 minutes for a child's portion of fish and chips! Thank goodness the bar person warned me to expect a wait of 15 to 20 minutes. Why so long, I asked? 'Because the kitchen is very busy'. Not good enough, the place wasn't even half full. Her attitude was extremely indifferent; not even one smile, all the time we were there! Hence, needless to say, no tip. Tables were really sticky, so much so, we decked it out with serviettes to avid the stickiness. It's a wonder The Margam Deer manages to keep it's doors open, it's a lovely venue staffed by 'couldn't care less' people!

I rang ahead, explaining my 94year olds dietary preferences, on arrival we were met at the door to escort us to our table, they changed the chair for my dad, provided excellent attention to detail, nothing was too much bother, brought out his birthday cake and made him feel very special. When it was time to leave they helped me get him to the front door moving tables out of the way to allow access. I can’t thank Tia, Liz and Megan enough for the hospitality they provided, over and above what was expected. You girls are a credit to the establishment Thank you again

Amazing food, I had the hunters chicken and my partner had the mega mix grill. We will definitely be returning here. Staff are really friendly we had Teresa serving us and she was amazing and always smiling. Thank you for a great experience.

I thought Dick Turpin was hanged in the 1700s but obviously not. Because I feel, I was hoodwinked out of my hard earned cash today. This has to be, probably the worst meal that I've had to pay for. (Even with the 30% off deal) I chose the mixed grill, of which the chicken and mushrooms were cold. The chips tasted awful, the steak well what can I say, it's the first and hopefully only time that the two mouthfuls that I did eat were god forbid, eaten with brown sauce. My wife chose the lighter choice steak wigh salad, unfortunately the salad looked as id it was prepared 3 days previously. My wife also left her meal, as did the two members of our family that unfortunately for them, joined us on this momentus occasion. Don't waste your money.

Good Restaurant for family night out or lunchtime carvery. Great staff and a nice drop of Guinness. Very spacious surroundings

Ordered tikka masala thought u couldn't ho wrong how wrong was I...soggy poppadom was a clue of what was to come... it was lukewarm with barely done oven chips tasteless nam bread and a tasteless sauce I the rice was ok I suppose but overall very disappointing will never go back not cheap either....

We haven't been to this restaurant for a while now, despite only living close by. As we had a free evening, and nothing in the fridge (!!) we opted for the Margam Deer having read some good, recent reviews. What a change to our previous experience. The staff were absolutely excellent, a lady who I imagine to be the manager and a blond young man were helpful, friendly, engaged and attentive. The menu is varied and our meals were served in good time and delicious. This was an extremely pleasant meal and we shall be adding it to our list of 'places to go when I can't be bothered to cook, er I mean, there's not much in the fridge' options!

Walked into the pub, friendly greeting by the Manager Charlotte. Went to order at the bar and she recommended the kebab, which was fab, so had a kebab and a few drinks and not in the normal order. Would highly recommend coming here again as the service and food was excellent. Will come again!

I went here for a friend’s 50th birthday meal. Possibly the worst food and service I’ve had in many years, I certainly won’t be returning. The food, where do you start? I had lasagne which was tasteless with no substance. I’ve had better microwave meals. The chips were white, undercooked and quite hard. They needed to be cooked few an extra minutes. The salad was limp and not fresh. Probably the worst meal I’ve had for a very long time. My wife had Chicken Tikka Masala which was nothing more than ready meal. The service - again where do I start? Totally unprofessional and rude. Not at all welcoming and shouted at the birthday girl. One of the meals should have been gluten free but due to an error on our behalf it had to be redone and the lady who placed the order apologised. That wasn’t good enough though. The lady serving came over to our table and shouted at the birthday girl waving her hand written order in the air. No desserts were offered at the end of our mains and no drinks were offered throughout our stay. An absolutely appalling place, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Walked into the pub, quietish night. Was greeted by a lady who I later found out to be named Tina. She showed us a table that we could sit at which was in a perfect location as I've recently just had a hip operation. When I ordered at the bar, Tina was very polite and well mannered, and offered additional items to our meal. Perfect upselling for the business. Would highly recommend coming here again as the service was excellent. The food was delicious and very hot from the carvery. 5* visit!

My husband & myself went to margam deer on Monday night 20th November & we both had sirlion steak & chips. The steaks were absolutely beautiful, cooked to perfection, chips beautiful & crispy. Compliments to Josh & Johnny who cooked the meals. Also excellent service by Leon & Luke who served us by the bar.

When are Marstons going to vary their dreadful menu? Every pub just about in S Wales has the same generic boring awful food! This pub is lovely but the food is crap , cold and from some freezer. Change it up for goodness sake!!!

Very poor carvery. Beef was the toughest meat we'd ever eaten. Had to ask for a steak knife for my mother to try and cut hers but she gave up. Carvery looked lovely but not a pleasant experience eating it. Very poor.

Firstly, important to me, food was very good and the staff extremely friendly and accommodating. Service was swift and we were a group of nine and the meals arrived at the same time. Not a bad pint of Guinness also. Will visit again when in area.

The food here is very poor. I used to visit frequently, however now stopped attending as the food, especially the carvery has gone very poor. The Turkey is too dry and the Beef tastes on vinegar! All the veg is boiled to mush. Very poor

I usually like coming here despite how much I have to pay. But this time the vegetables were hard, the stuffing was powdery and the Yorkshires were not cooked properly. In my opinion they need to make the prices lower. It's way too expensive for food that isn't even cooked properly. It's way to expensive in general. It's ridiculous.
