Cool Gourmet in Aberdeenshire

The Staff at cool gourmet were very friendly, the menu and food were excellent , quaint little cafe in Stonehaven just off the harbour, best Cullen skink I've had in scotland will definitely visit again when I return.

I ordered a takeaway afternoon tea for 8 which was absolutely delicious, great selection, all homemade, cakes to die for. Excellent value for money. Also ate breakfast here which was equally good. Wish I lived nearer!

Waitresses we're super friendly and efficient. Nice pair of armchairs just inside the door tucked away, which just suited us. Both had homemade soups (Pepper and chilli was one) with soda bread, delicious.

L’accueil est aussi exquis que les gâteaux maison, à savourer dans une déco délicieusement désuète. Excellent espresso pour les non amateurs de thé. Pause idéale avant ou après la balade menant au Dunnotar castle.

Locale e personale accogliente, abbiamo mangiato cullen skink(tipica zuppa di pesce) e zuppa del giorno broccoli e blue cheese. Per finire scones marmellata zenzero e rabarbaro. Tutto squisito. Consigliato

We’ve been to the Cool Gourmet a few times so thought it was time to write a review. Love the various soup / sandwich combinations and the wide choice of vegetarian/vegan soups. Soups are obviously made in house, taste great and generously portioned. Best egg sandwich I’ve ever had. Cakes are fabulous and again in generous portions. Prices are competitive for nowadays and we’re happy to pay for quality. Nice ambience, friendly and attentive staff and dog friendly.

Friday afternoon, very cold and windy outside and I wanted to warm myself… Got a tea pot and a scone with butter Place was almost empty as it was near the closing time, very quite Can’t say a lot about a tea… but it was served very well. Staff was very welcoming, atmosphere was good and it was exactly what I needed to work myself and refuel

Have been for lunch a couple of times and food is always lovely, fresh and hits the spot. Have been during the week and also at the weekend but would say service is noticeably better during the week when it's not all young staff. Not rude or bad mannered but just not interested or attentive at all. Had a much better experience when the staff were warmer , welcoming and observant.

Great place, not what you might expect from its location or the outside. Very welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Choice of 8 great soups, made in the cafe - most of them gluten free. Try the Cullen skink (our near teenager had a double serving!) and the mushroom - both fantastic. 3 cheese macaroni cheese also delicious. Good selection of freshly made sandwiches (gluten free if wanted). Great selection of lovely ‘home made’ cakes, usually one gluten free. Very nice coffee too. Dog friendly and welcoming, with water bowls and treats. Overall, a hidden gem.

Home cooked food and scones to die for. Very good service, well spaced tables and lovely decor. Nothing too much trouble to staff and food home-cooked by the owner. Prices - very reasonable - on the High Street so easily accesible

What a lovely find for lunch today! We went here because it was rated highly on Tripadvisor. Long list of soups and a big jam menu. We had the Cullen skink and a scone. Absolutely delicious and very moreish. We’ll be back to try other things on the menu. Reasonably priced too.

The only place I have ever been that offers a jam menu, so you can pick exactly the right scone/ jam combination. And the scones are a definite must. A range of delicious soups is on offer, with plenty of veggie/ vegan options. All served with a choice of soda bread, scone etc. Love the quirky salt and pepper sets and the mismatched bone china used to serve scrumptious homemade food. The staff are unfailingly friendly and helpful. Ideally situated between town and harbour, so easy to find. Look out for the scone of the day. Favourite so far is rhubarb and ginger. Oh my.

everything home cooked and baking to die for - a must. Good old fashioned tea room as tea rooms used to be but well worth having a meal here.

We were wanting tea and scones and found just what we were looking for. I had a fruit scone with strawberry jam, S had a rhubarb scone with ginger jam, and they were both delicious with our earl grey tea!

We went with the 6 of us to Cool Gourmet. We had a couple of sandwiches, a couple of chicken liver pâtés, a soup and a scone. Friendly service and all good quality. Why 3 stars? Well, despite being nice, the whole vibe is very much how cooked food. Nothing wrong with that, but not necessarily a reason to go out of your way to eat.

Absolutely lovely waitress however totally shocked when 2 lasagne and 2 soft drinks cost £31:00! There were no prices displayed and honestly expected to pay about £24:00. When questioned via e mail was told it included garlic bread (2 cheap shop bought slices) and a side salad. Salad was a garnish a very small amount of finely chopped basic items.

Popped in here after a walk to the castle and it was perfect. Lovely surroundings, very clean. Great food. Sandwiches had loads of filling and cakes were totally delicious. Staff were ace too. Definitely recommend.

Could not fault the Cullen Skink and the Spicy Butternut Squash soups. Both accompanied by warm cheese scones. We opted for the 'half bowl', which was enough for us. Murphy's Law, that you can go for months having basic, tasteless cheese scones. Then two days in a row, treated to very tasty, really cheesy, cheese scones. Thank you, Cool Gourmet.

What a find! It was a bank holiday in Scotland, and every place was booked solid, and my family was getting hangry. Thankfully, we found this wonderful place w/ the BEST scones and cakes, and a huge selection of hot soups to warm us up...

On a short visit to Aberdeen we took a day trip to Stonehaven . We were looking for somewhere for a light lunch and stumbled upon this cafe....and liked the look of the menu displayed in the window . Couldn't believe the choice of home...

A takeaway afternoon tea with lovely sandwiches, sausage rolls, scones and an abundance of beautiful cakes. Great vegetarian options (I actually asked for the recipe of the veggie sausage rolls). Just fabulous.

Excellent choice of scones and jams with cream with very good coffee make this an excellent choice. The takeaway food looked amazing and would try the lunch options next time we are in the area.

In Beautiful Stonehaven, we were looking for the chip shop that sells Mars Bars in Batter ... not that we crave that particular delicacy ... but there's also a good reputation around the fish suppers supplied there and, though it was early in the day ... Well.Our drive around the scenic harbour at Stoney took us past a homely looking eaterie happily offering any "Cool Gourmet" some tasty hand-delivered-and-table-served fare. Speciality soups like their Cullen Skink and about six other choices at least looked well-made, wholesome and yummy ... and we chose their lovely Asparagus one and another delightful dish of Tattie and Leek. It must be said if all their stuff is as good as their soups and the Victoria Sponge we sampled, they are onto a winner. Had I been ravenous, I would have had a portion of their Beef Stovies ... But I will return one day for a temptingly described "Full Scottish Roast Dinner" from the expert hands of these talented and enthusiastic chefs.Their motto is: "If we sell it, we make it" ... and so, I would certainly wish them All The Best in this quirky, recent and excellent venture.

Chose this venue for a private family function as we didn't want a hotel environment. This was perfect, a lovely atmosphere with all our needs catered for - everyone loved it. The food of course was lovely and much enjoyed by our guests. Thanks to Isla and her wonderful staff for making it such an intimate and memorable occasion for us. (Would also recommend the breakfasts and the tea and scones! )

After wanting to go for years and finally making it today, I was very disappointed. On arriving the table was dirty. I looked around at the spare tables and they too had not been cleaned. I used the (only) toilet on arrival and it was pretty dirty and there was no toilet paper. I should have left at this point. But I ordered latte which was really nice. My lasagne was extremely dry and overcooked and I could not eat it (I did try some but burnt my tongue). No staff came to see if everything was okay so I did not have the opportunity to return it. I pushed it to one side and ate one of my partner's sandwiches and they were really nice, fresh, and the soup was good. Used the toilet again before leaving and there was toilet paper this time, but no hand towels.During the whole visit the table beside us had two different parties but still the floor beside it and beside me remained soaking, a puddle of water, with not even a hazard sign placed. During our visit the waitress came over a few times, taking our orders and bringing drinks, but still our table was not cleaned. Also during our visit a family party arrived and eventually left as I don't think their order had even been taken.Eventually our plates were cleared and even though my lasagne was largely untouched I was not asked if everything was okay so I said that I could not eat it as it was very dry and overcooked. It was visibly burnt. At payment I still had to pay for half of it. Unacceptable.

Following a night at the P&J Arena watching Michael Bublè we intentionally passed through Stonehaven on our way home to Monifieth and were delighted to discover a relaxed atmosphere on the Hogmanay Fire Balls Street. The ladies who served us clearly excelled whilst working in this environment. I ordered a square sausage breakfast roll with a cup of tea, my wife ordered bacon breakfast roll and we were pleased to hear the meat had been supplied by a local butcher, it certainly tasted fine. Whilst availing of breakfast it was easy to see how much care had gone into the decor, we had flying saucers attached to cups which housed lights to light up the cafe, there was an amazing collection of tea pots and cups making each serving quite unique. Prior to leaving we also purchased fresh baked cakes and soup for consumption at home. A truly enjoyable day of consumption curtesy of the Cool Gourmet.We look forward to future visit opportunities.

We struggled to find somewhere to eat with our dog and had to ask in one of the shops. Cool Gourmet was highly recommended. On our way there we wondered if we had missed it and had to ask one of the locals, she was brilliant and walked us almost to the door. How is that for a recommendation.The welcome was genuinely friendly and the dog was certainly made welcome as well. We had to have the Cullen Skink, which was very good, as were the scones afterwards with a hugh selection of jams to go with them. We will definately return. Highly recommended.

Stopped off for a fly cup. Quirky cafe. Nice vibe. Food in cabinet looks amazing. We had the Cullen skink. Yummers. Nicest I’ve tasted. Had to buy some takeaway so the family at home didn’t miss out. Finished our lunch with a scone and cuppa. So many choices of jam. A real treat.

What can I say, loved it. Busy when we arrived as a family of myself,husband, youngest daughter and our 3 grandchildren. Couple already sitting at table moved to let us have two tables put together. Staff so welcoming, apologetic for wait and helpful. Choice amazing,never had the choice of 10 soups! When food came it was so good, soup piping hot, toastie, sandwiches etc super fresh and my husband mince and tatties clean plate. We would highly recommend

I have met up with friends here for private functions several times and have always been very impressed by the delicious spreads of dishes. Very friendly and attentive service too.

Been coming here since it opened when I’m in Stonehaven visiting family or just down for a day out. It’s a lovely cafe offering a wide selection of freshly cooked food & cakes including a take away selection. Today we had a couple coffee’s a slice of cake for my cousin & toast & marmalade for me as I’d missed my breakfast. We felt no rush to finish our order & felt very comfortable while we caught up on family news. A lovely cafe to visit when in Stonehaven. You don’t be disappointed! A good 8/10 from me.

Had a really tasty lunch at the Cool Gourmet. Can recommend the butternut squash soup, generous helping and very good.

Popped in for late lunch I had Cullen skink really lovely hubby had French onion with crouton and cheese served on the side and a toasty all really good! Our wee dog got a wee dish with chicken skin and a wee homemade bone. We all enjoyed everything!

Lovely friendly staff. :-) VERY difficult to choose which of the freshly made scones to have. However, I definitely made an excellent choice with a delicious cheese and black pudding scone straight from the oven! We’ll be back...soon!

A huge selection of tasty food on offer, all of which looked incredibly delectable. Every meal was full of flavour and fresh ingredients. Service was great, especially considering they were working with reduced staffing.

Private evening dining experience was amazing! We had a buffet style meal with an amazing choice of high quality, tasty food. Excellent as always!

Cool Gourmet is our regular place to eat when walking down town. There’s always an exciting scone with a selection of home made jams. The variety of homebakes and ready meals is amazing, very handy for visitors in the caravan site. There could be no better selection of soups to tempt every dietary requirement but my favourite on the varied menu is chicken salad. No one makes a more interesting salad than Isla. There’s always a warm welcome .

Coffee stop with cake both were Ok. Busy place and everyone except us had dogs some tables had two. Dogs get severd first and one doggy had milk. But they do cater for humans so dog owners hurry down for a treat.

The food here was good, and the servers were very friendly (contrary to other reviewers' experience). That being said, there were two servers and they seemed very harried. We had a late lunch (2:30), and there were only 2 other tables occupied. So not busy at all. We ordered 4 toasties. We had to wait a while for them to notice us and take our order, and then we waited 45 minutes for sandwiches! I'm not sure what was going on in the kitchen. But based on other reviews about long wait times, we experienced the same situation. If you are in a hurry or want your meal in a reasonable time frame, perhaps look elsewhere.

I can’t believe this place gets good reviews. We visited on a Sunday morning - were given a table where I had a great view of the laundry. We were then ignored and after a while we left. Not sure they noticed.

We ask for a table for lunch, but the place was almost full, we would be gladly waiting for a table if the lady wouldn’t have been so RUDE in addressing us. So we left the Cool Gourmet really upset

Ich besuchte Cool Gourmet nach meiner Wanderung zum Dunottar Castle! Der Cappuccino ist ein Traum! Unbedingt probieren! Ebenfalls hatte ich einen Scone, welcher auch sehr lecker war. Das Ambiente ist okay. Ich hatte mir einen Platz in den Sesseln gesichert. Sehr gemütlich! Für Scone und Cappuccino habe ich 5 Pfund bezahlt, was angemessen ist. Immer wieder gerne!

It was a cooler summer day and a warm lunch sounded perfect. There isn't much to choose from in Stonehaven and we happened upon this little teashops. They had about ten different homemade soups to choose from and a variety of fresh scones to complement the soup. I had the cauliflower and blue cheese soup with a cheese scone. Oh my. It was delicious. Will be dreaming of this soup on cool days for a long time.

Leuke plek om te lunchen met voldoende gratis parkeergelegenheden in de straat. Binnen knus met een beperkt aantal zitplaatsen. Vooral bijzonder vonden wij de verse gerechten op de kaart. Deze werden iedere dag vers bereid. Aanrader mocht je in de buurt zijn.

We had a delicious dinner here. The soups were amazing and the sandwiches were freshly made and included very generous fillings. The service was very efficient and the staff extremely welcoming and friendly.

Service was extremely poor and disorganised. The staff did keep apologising. Our order sat on the counter half made while the two staff cleared tables and took money from other customers. We had a generous timescale to keep to but ended up being late for our next appointment. Homemade jam was good, as were the scones. Pancake was a bit hard. Don't know if it was old or had been reheated and left to go cold. Very disappointing visit as we had loved it the last time we visited.

Called in for a cuppa, lovely welcome from the friendly ladies. We also tried their homemade cheese scones with butter!! Lovely and tasty!! Very comfortable little cafe.

Decided to try Cool Gourmet today for the first time, had a lovely cuppa and scone. However, my daughter put her hand on a glass table and the top came off and split her lip!! One staff member then told us it happened all the time as the top of the table was not secure - she was very apologetic. However the managers attitude was awful, very defensive and basically told us it was our fault - she told us the table was not a toy, all my daughter did was place her hand on the table!!! Very angry

Can't fault the service. The food was nice enough The toastie was just ok and the scones were lovely. But overpriced.

Had a nice lunch with friends & was really impressed by the quality of the food. I am also lactose intolerant & was very happy to see at least 2 soups marked 'LF'!! Staff were also really accommodating & made up my sandwich with LF ingredients. Will definitely return!

Such a great little cafe with a wide variety of foods to suit different dietary requirements (gluten free, lactose free, veggie etc). Top quality food, homemade jams and soups etc . & I was really touched that they brought homemade dog biscuits and water for my dog. If I’m ever passing through again, I would definitely go back.

Excellent for a tea-and-cake stop, perhaps as a reward for your walk to and from Dunottar Castle! Great lunches and the once-a-month set menu is well worth booking ahead for.

Chose this lovely cafe for lunch today after reading the excellent reviews. Absolutely loved it! Great selection to choose from. Had to try the renowned macaroni served with garlic bread and salad. Fabulous! Even better than my own home made version. Excellent value and service. I look forward to my next visit and will be recommending Cool Gourmet to my friends. A real “wow lunch”.

We've visited here a few times over the past months. I always go for soup and a toastie - the French Onion soup is amazing. Really too full for a cake, but somehow manage to find room - carrot cake is great ( and one of 5 a- day of course )

I and my friends enjoyed an excellent afternoon tea which had lots of variety. The sandwiches,scones and cakes were delicious and the lemon posset to finish was the 'icing on the cake'. I have been previously for cakes and tea and was just as impressed with Cool Gourmet.

The menus very extensive and Have never seen so many possibilities for soups and also jam for the scones. I really enjoyed my cream of asparagus soup and the cake was also vg.

Had a lateish lunch here before heading to Dunottar. Slightly out of the way from the high street and close to the old pier. Don't be deceived by plain shop front exterior - lovely wee cafe inside with quaint teacup light fittings and bright interior. Staff were pleasant and attentive. 3 of us had probably the nicest beef/steak sandwiches we have ever had with ample sized slices of pink steak with sweet onions and tangy horseradish and a nice side salad. For 5.95 it was exceptional value and was one of the guest sandwiches of the day - would thoroughly recommend getting it if it is on the menu. None of us had any of the cakes or soups but that had a number of homemade options of both as well as huge scones which looked delightful. Would definitely try one of the soup and sandwich options if we were back in the area. Only downside was them running out of the gorgeous low GI bread for one of the sandwiches but just a minor issue. Would thoroughly recommend.

Gezellige kleine Britse lunch/tearoom waar je aan het goede adres bent voor een lekkere lunch. Sandwiches, soepen en allerlei andere zelfgemaakte producten zijn hier te verkrijgen. De zaak is klein dus wees op tijd voor een plekje. Wij waren er om 12.00 uur en dat was maar net op tijd want na ons werden vele mensen teleurgesteld.

Had the most wonderful festive afternoon tea today. A tasty selection of sandwiches followed by gorgeous homemade cakes and scones. So much we had to get a doggy bag. Lovely atmosphere and staff were wonderful as always.

One of my favourite stops in Stonehaven. Delicious home cooking. Something for everyone on the menu. Traditional fare and healthy food options. Efficient and friendly staff too. The afternoon tea is a delight although you have to book ahead. It's well worth the effort though...

This place is small but super cute and cosy. We took a seat but didn't get served for a bit. But the place was busy so we didn't mind the wait. The food is all home made and you can tell. It was lovely we really enjoyed a lunch. Only better service would have upped the stars - once we ordered food did come out quickly just that initial waiting to be served.

Ordered two bacon rolls to takeaway for just under £5 and although they came out quick the bacon was practically uncooked and the roll soggy with grease. Will not be back.

Friendly laid back cafe, clearly popular with locals and visitors alike. Proper afternoon tea lots of different cakes and a decent sandwich each, not slithers of sandwich.

We visited for lunch on Wednesday 5th of September. Upon entering the establishment we were warmly welcomed and invited to take a seat. We had previously been eighteen months earlier with my neice who lives in Aberdeen. My husband choose the lentil and ham soup, with soda bread. Which was thick and a hearty meal in itself. Freshly prepared with locally sought ingredients. I choose Cullen Skink a local thick and hearty fish soup. This has to be the most amazing fish soup one could possibly encounter, really delicious and full of delectable flavours. A truly delicious lunch, served with homemade soda bread, lovely texture and the perfect accompaniment. Highly recommend this establishment.

Super petit salon de thé servant petit-déjeuner, sandwich, soupe du jour,... Beau choix de pâtisseries faites maison! Le personnel était super chaleureux et nous avons été plus que comblés par le full scottish breakfast ainsi que les scones que nous avons commandés!

6 friends had the most amazing array of cakes and sandwiches as well as gallons of tea. Excellent service and very competitive price We couldn’t finish everything so it was parcelled up to take away. Very impressed and will return again soon.

Been in here twice now brilliant fresh scones and plenty of choice hot chocolate out of this world.This is not your normal coffee shop the decoration and lighting is something else you have to see it.
