Cookmama in Norwich

Ordered at 8:18pm tonight on Uber eats, been waiting over 3 hours before the restaurant claimed food had been delivered at 11:29pm when it hasn’t at all! By the looks of other reviews on here do NOT order online with this restaurant as you’ll be very disappointed. Was looking forward to trying something different but I will never be attempting from here again.

We booked a table as a large group, and where to start. Service: our waitress was pleasant and accommodating but most of the beer or wine menu did not exist in reality, and only the more expensive south African brands remained left, so instantly paying more before you've even eaten. Venue: A cosy space, unfortunately it was freezing cold and we were all eating in our outdoor jackets. Food: where to start with the food, all the food tastes the same, everything pretty much deep fried and all meats chewy, tough and grissly. The sharing platters were completely inconsistent with variying amount across different plates, also I'm not sure how 2 people are supposed to share a piece of corn together, lady and the tramp moment with corn? The rice, 100 percent this was microwave rice, having had some very good African cooking before, this was clearly out of a packet. And any chips were luke warm with a pappy / frozen middle. Chicken curry, had flavour but was a generic chip shop curry taste. The best thing of the night was the cake we brought, luckily clearing the pallet. I would not recommend this place as a dining experience within Norwich. Final price was also very shocking for the quality and choices available

If there was an option to give it less than 1 star I would. Let's start with drink and food first - We ordered a round of drinks of which they didn't have most of the choices on the menu! Over priced wines! Over priced beers (especially the African ones) £6 for 330ml. Not even London has such prices!!! We then ordered the starter platters - you could taste the stale oil in everything! The main sharing platters...where do I even start.. our group ordered 4 platters, all orders inconsistent with things missing. All bits of meat cooked poorly. I'm still chewing!!! Stay away from the jollof rice and pilau rice - you will end up paying for Uncles Ben's microwaved rice!! I've had some lip smacking jollof and pilau rice and theirs wasn't a freshly cooked one! Plates and cutlery were all greasy too. I don't normally write bad reviews but this is the worst food experience we have had a in a very long time. If you're a vegetarian - please avoid this place by all means. They have some options but everything is cooked in the same oil. Everything tastes the same

Ordered the Suya platter for two, three types of meat (goat, beef and chicken), all perfectly cooked with a nice spice blend. Goat was on the bone and succulent whilst all the chicken wings were full wings (flat, drum and wingtip). Sides of plantain (first for me, a bit like potato), onion and coleslaw with a spicy dipping sauce. First time eating African food, definitely would go again.

Food was incredible. Never had African cuisine before and I'll definitely be having it again. Had the Suya platter and all the meat was cooked to perfection. Would recommend anybody give it a go!

wonderful time! loved every minute. warm welcomes and great vibes. Came for a friends birthday a few weeks back and we all had such a lovely time. Good and drink was amazing. Made with love and it shows. Can’t wait to come back and try more!

Me and some friends came to try the food and weren't disappointed! The service was really friendly and they have lots of choice, we all enjoyed our meals and the lovely chilled vibes. I had egusi soup and jollof rice! Thank you & hope to come back again soon 😊

Absolutely delicious food! Feels like family recipes and home cooked food. Thoroughly recommend it, especially if you fancy trying something new.

Ordered through Uber eats for the first time. I usually order through deliveroo or over the phone. They got the order wrong twice even though I called to explain the issue, I then process a refund through Uber eats for the incorrect item only, only for a member of staff to call me on the phone to shout and berate me. Utterly terrible service and have lost a loyal customer who has supported this business despite their various issues. I will never ever order from this place again. I’m extremely disappointed to have been spoken to in such a manner. Never again

Anyone missing a taste of Africa this is the place to go!!! Come into your shoso's living room and have a proper taste of home can not rate it highly enough! Will be back

In a very cold and quiet evening in Norwich, Cookmama’s delicious food gave me and my boyfriend a warm and spicy feeling! Great to find these cuisines made with love where we may not expect it 😋

Epic meal today. Was very well looked after. African food and wine was delicious, catered well for vegans. Possibly the best meal we've had in Norwich. Awesome warm service. Thanks for having us :)

Came to Norwich on a holiday and decided to search for a Nigerian restaurant. This is the worst meal I’ve eaten in my life. The rice was not properly cooked and washed, the goat stew still tasted raw and one could taste the ingredients. The goat meat was more of fat and bone. I would never recommend for anybody.

Didn’t know about our booking despite being the only one. Especially rude when asking for for wine that was out of stock it wasn’t a pleasant verbal response. Left without eating never again.

We have previously ordered from here. Today was atrocious. We ordered an hour and a half before the food was needed - giving a delivery time which was accepted by Cook Mama. The meal was late and when we tried to call the restaurant. No answer for an hour. (Trying to contact Just Eat was just as impossible.) After an hour and a half we visited the restaurant who had our food waiting for over an hour and a half!! We asked why they hadn't called us or answered our calls. They said their landlines weren't working! Such a feeble excuse. Perhaps they hadn't heard of mobiles or data calls. It was a frustrating and very annoying wait . Two hours late and in the end and we picked up the food ourselves. Meal with friends ruined. I would seriously advise against the delivery option for this restaurant. Food fine - service absolutely pants. (No help from Just Eat solutions on the website during the issue. )

We ordered a takeaway from this place tonight. We waited two hours for our food, at which point they cancelled the order and wouldn't answer the phone! Unbelievably poor service, don't bother ordering from here.

I had a delicious smoothie and yaki soba noodles. Delicious. Will be back! Lovely quiet spot to relax after work.

The food is so amazing I come to cook mama I always come with family and we’re always satisfied with the food and the service from the owners of the restaurant as they make us feel welcome and we always joke about with them and to the point they know what we want to order when we come into the restaurant

Ordered a takeaway and 2 hours later it hasn’t arrived! Rang an hour and was told it’s on its way…. We like 15 mins away. I can’t imagine we will ever see the order and frankly looking at the previous reviews i think we’ve saved ourselves a terrible mistake.

I have order through just eat and I must say I don’t like the food at all . The food was taste less and the delivery time was too late as well . If anyone want to order from them make sure you have at least 1hour 30 mins in your hand because it’s not possible for them to delivered the food on time because I find out there is only one person who’s worked on the kitchen . Never going back

We were looking forward to visiting cook mama today, we were the only people in the restaurant. Partner ordered steak ramen I ordered vegetable katsu curry, the food took nearly an hour to arrive, the order was totally wrong the ramen was chicken as was my curry (I don't eat meat for medical reasons). The chef did apologise, saying the waitress had not arrived at work and offered to correct our order but as he had taken our original order, we declined and left. Very disappointed, we will not be returning.

Really poor experience. We were the only ones in the restaurant. Decor was poor. The waitress didn't no anything about the menu and it was quite unprofessional all round. Would not recommend eating in there.

Visited today whilst in Norwich from out of the area. My wife and I were the only people in the restaurant, friendly staff. Food was superb had the Fiery chicken but could have chosen so much more off the menu. Highly recommended and will definitely visit again.

I had Chicken Katsu and Cookmama Chips today at Cookmama and it was lovely. I can tell it's a new business and believed that it will pick up at anytime soon. Thank you for the good food.

I had Soba Noodles stir fry and it was amazing. The kids menu was also amazing and the kids had seconds. Also the staff is friendly and makes the environment very warm & welcoming.

Poor service. Lacking choice of drinks. Awful food. Very oily and tasteless
