We were staying at Buckfast Abbey and as they weren't serving dinner we went for a takeaway. We ordered deep fried squid, special chow mein and satay king prawns. We asked for no MSG and the chef pointed out that the BBQ sauce in the Chow Mein had a little, which we were happy with. All the dishes were piping hot and really tasty with loads of meat and veg. A superb Chinese takeway in a place you wouldn't naturally expect one to be. Minus one star for only taking cash, no excuse not to take cards.

Didn't fancy cooking so went in there to get some food, service friendly and good, end product disappointing, over cooked items, dry and not really worth the money paid for, sad as previous visits have been quite good, might have to consider ever visiting again...

We thoroughly enjoyed the food from this Chinese take away and it far exceeded our expectations. We ordered a wide range of dishes and every one of them was delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful too. Would highly recommend.

This is the best chinese take away food we have ever tasted!!! We have come back several times and all the dishes we have tried so far have been of highest standard: super fresh, just perfectly cooked, the service and athmosphere are extremely friendly and the waiting time is as long as they say. Buckfastleigh is very lucky to have Fu Lin in the village.

Staying in Buckfastleigh with some friends. We found this a good Chinese takeaway to feed four hungry blokes. We bought ourselves the set menu for four which happily filled us up. Plenty of pancakes to go with the shredded duck, the chilli prawns were my favourite and enough special fried rice to make it a full meal for us all. Service was pretty swift and there were a few customers calling in on the Sunday evening we were there.

This is the best Chinese take away we’ve had - so tasty and seems better quality than other Chinese take aways. The staff were extremely polite and friendly.

I rarely eat Chinese food these days because it makes me feel so dehydrated the next day. However, decided to try a takeaway from here and it was so full of flavours and caused no dehydration that we had a second one later in the week. Wish we didn’t live hundreds of miles away!

Great little local takeaway, cash only but guess they need to protect their profit margin. Good food, love a good takeaway and had to beat in Buckfastleigh.

As Chinese takeaways go this small town family business fulfills expectations. Looking for a fresh healthy meal? Not likely to find it in a Chinese take away. Looking for good flavour and grand portions for a good prices? This is the place. Like most Chinese takeaways, their down fall is a menu to large to bring up the quality. My advice is to reduce and specialise the menu, however keeping options to the demand seems to be a Chinese takeaway thing. I was surprised by the big portion size, bigger than I've tried before. Keep up the good work. p.s. don't give a bad trip advisor because you small town chineese is unhealthy. What did you expect?

An amazing Chinese takeaway with freshly cooked food to order, it may take slightly longer than normal but I would rather fresh made food which is healthier. A++++++++++

We had the best Chinese food ever from here last night. This takeaway is now called Fu Lin not Cook and Fry. We chose a varied selection of dishes from the menu and shared them between 6 of us. The size of the pancake rolls and the sweet and sour chicken in batter balls was huge and really tasty. All the portions were generous. I particularly liked the chow mein. The curries were good too. The owners are polite and efficient and the food was ready to collect within 10 minutes of ordering over the phone. We highly recommend this takeaway. A lovely family treat to celebrate my son's 13th birthday.

We live in Haytor so takeaway is a bit of a luxury and a hike for us, but we had friends over and they had heard good things about the new Chinese in Buckfastleigh. We ordered over the phone and arrived a bit early to pick it up. It was good to see the steady flow of people picking up their orders and seeing the food being cooked in the kitchen. It smelled beautiful!Got it home and it was one of the best Chinese we have had in a long time, not stodgy or watery, good selection and the kids were coming back for seconds :)I would definitely recommend this to anyone and I think we may have to be having Chinese more often.Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

By far the best Chinese take a way no "gloop" actually tastes fresh and dose not congeal, really nice young couple and do need the support they so richly deserve as they have taken Chinese take a way to a higher level. they need to lose the old "cook & fried" as this was descriptive of the last owners.

Now known as Fu Lin, I always go here as a first choice for a takeaway in Buckfastleigh. Good tasting food, reasonable prices and always ready in a reasonable time from a telephone order. Intend to use regularly.

We regularly use the new cook and fry Chinese. The food was poor before, but the new owners have completely turned this around. I would highly recommend the food especially the mixed vegetable curry. Fast service. They are also happy to accommodate any slight variation on the dish you require and the menu is very varied. Lots of new dishes to try. We look forward to ordering again soon.

This place re opened in June. Had several takeaways and they have been very good. Prices are good too. My favourite is still the Royal Chine in Newton Abbot, but this comes a close second

As its the only Chinese in the village, we use it often. It's not the best Chinese I've had, but it's by far not the worse either. A delivery service would up the overall score for this takeaway. The staff are efficient and welcome you with a smile, but the Chinese as a nation don't tend to do chatter, which suits us. We find telephoning the order first then collecting is the quickest way in and out.

We continue to use this chinese as we love the food that we get from it. There is not a lot in the local area to compare it too on the same scale, as this is the nearest chinese for som distance, but we have never found a problem with it. not everyone can be pleased but we and several others I know have have found it perfect for a quick treat.

I am a local and used to use the local chinese until it started to go downhill,so we then avoided it and tried another one. But this was not in our local vicinity but 11 miles away so we didnt treat ourselves to chinese very often. However I decided to try it tonight and wish I hadn't bothered!! Part of my order was missing which I didnt find out until I got home. So I went back to the shop and told the 16yr old girl who then said she would tell management. The elderly man then came out to speak to me in very broken english, telling me that the whole meal would need to be taken back and checked off??!! My family had already started to eat as it was not very warm by then. I didnt take the food back as it was half eaten and didnt get the rest of my order. I too experienced the utensil waving and found the man to be extrememly rude and abrupt. I am £5 down and very angry. I will NEVER use the place again and I advise you local and tourists alike to do the same.

We recently visited the village of buckfastleigh and were disappointed as a whole but the thing that ruined it most was this chinese. We placed a simple order of only three items and I collected and took back to our cottage.Unfortunately we did not like the look of the chicken chow mein as where we have ordered before it has always been shredded chicken and noodles and thats about it. This was covered in what can only be described as a thick gravey and the chicken appeared to be more like balls of fat. I took it back to ask them to exchange it and I even offered to pay a bit more towards something else but this was a huge issue for them. Obviously in this sleepy little village the cost of exchanging a chow mein was the end of their business and to make matters worse they didnt speak english and had to call down a 16 girl to translate. This only went one way as im glad she didnt repeat whatever it was they were calling me but the were shouting and waving utensils in my direction and the girl told me they were refusing to change it as no one else would buy it. I then stated that if they didnt then they could have the lot back as we were not going to eat it but this set them off again and I was forced to leave the shop without my money or the food I had taken down there. To add insult to injury the meal was over priced and the food we did try to eat was horrible. The sweet and sour sauce needed to be scrubed off my hands as it stained them a flurescent orange and the chicken balls burst when bitten into with what can only be described as grease and fat. Maybe the locals love it but tourists avoid.

We are regular customers of this restaurant and can never find any fault in anything they do. Brilliant, freshly cooked food, piping hot and quickly turned around with friendly service. Always upfront and honest when it’s busy. Amazing family run business which always goes above and beyond when they can to do the best for their customers. Some of the recent reviews are absolutely unjustified and definitely not representative of the restaurant I’ve been frequenting for many years. Trust me when I say to ignore any irritated, ignorant, entitled recent reviews.

Checking times. Tonight. OCT 2023 Closed for refurbishment. I have to say it's the only Local Chinese Restaurant to sit in. The other two are Take Aways. I took a Take Away home. A Beef Curry (sauce a little hot)(not your normal curry sauce, in house made.) and Plain Boiled Rice. Also Fried Noodle (thin type) and Beef (not chow mein) (there are a bits of green pepper, mushrooms, in it) also asked for Bean Sprouts with added onion, (perfect) Fried Rice and Sweet and Sour Sauce. (It had in it onions, cucumber, carrots and chucks of pineapple. Got to be made in house and fresh).
