nice bar, very relaxing area, with the music choice playing it reminded me of the bar in the Hong Kong Hyatt. didn't eat food on this occasion, cos I few beers. staff was very nice and friendly ☺️

First time visit, recommend by family. I went there for my birthday dinner with friends. Food were excellent. The flavours were spot on. Easily the best Chinese food I had all year

Living in the waterlooville area Chinese options are average at best, after reading reviews on this place we decided to order a takeaway for collection, and it didn’t disappoint. Best Chinese we’ve had in forever!! Well worth the short journey to collect, will definitely be back, thank you.

A very nice meal in a very pleasant restaurant/bar, the location surprises somewhat but the food was excellent. Clearly this was fairly recently a local pub rather than thevchinese restaurant it is now and the appearance still gives that impression when you walk up to it. The staff were very friendly and clearly experienced, a good selection of wines (if a bit pricey) but the star was defined the food.

Late lunch today, choose from the lunch special menu. Had ribs followed by sweet & sour chicken, both were excellent, decent size portions cooked to perfection. Staff were great. This was our first visit to this restaurant, it will not be the last, we look forward to the next

A jewel of a place for those that love quality Chinese food cooked to absolute perfection , by an amazing chef. Everything was so tasty and we were spoilt for choice , with so many wonderful dishes…. Served in such beautiful surroundings inside. Do not be fooled this place knocks it out of the park. Fanflippingtastic 🩷

I don't give 5 stars away willy nilly.. this place is amazing. Staff are sooo friendly,,food is cooked fresh and amazing. We went for lunch which is served every day from 12 - 2.30 ( even at weekends) and is only £15 per head plus drinks..cannot fault this place in any way👍👍

A relatively newly opened Chinese which opened in November 2023. It was recommended to us and didn’t disappoint. The food was lovely; we had pork dumplings, prawn toast and Lamb Belly Rib to start. All was delicious although the Lamb was quite expensive for the amount of meat you get, although I accept that lamb is expensive to purchase. Some pancakes or lettuce wraps would also be a welcome addition to the lamb. For mains we had Mongolian Beef, Prawn Curry, Chicken Curry and Sweet and Sour Pork with a few sides. The Wok Fried chips were some of the best we’ve had. The music was distractingly loud when we sat down, but the staff kindly turned it down a little. A total bill of £140 for 4 people with a few drinks in that too. So not the cheapest, but worth it in our eyes.

I really enjoyed or first meal here tonight.. The setting is rather plain and pub like, but there was a buzz, with quitea lot of diners early on a Tuesday.. The food was really quick, the service was good and friendly, and the food very tasty.. Indeed it is more my favorite in you the UK.

Absolutely divine Chinese. The first and only Chinese I’ve ever had that hasn’t been greasy or made me really thirsty. These chefs know what they’re doing. Highly recommend!

Amazing food! Midweek dinner out and came here based on the positive reviews. Bar and restaurant in two halves but the food was definitely authentic and tasty. We both had vegetarian dishes, noodles, egg fried rice and a curry sauce. Definitely coming back.

This restaurant has been a fantastic discovery for us, there are a lot of Chinese restaurants in the Portsmouth area, but none of them are as good as the Compass Rose. This newly renovated classy restaurant offers a new very modern fresh approach to Chinese cuisine. Great tasting dishes prepared by an extremely experienced and knowledgeable chef. Polite and professional staff from the start, this kind of service is nothing short of 5 star! In fact, we're lucky to have this kind of restaurant in our local area. Thanks to everyone at the Compass Rose for making our afternoon perfect! We'll see you again soon.

This place is overrated, in my opinion. I completely agree that the staff is friendly and efficient, however the cuisine isn't the best. We ordered Mongolian-style meat, Taiwanese-style chicken, and cabbage. We enjoyed the cabbage and the chicken. We were unable to eat Mongolian stir fry since it is an extremely strong and strange food. The waiters were very courteous to us and redid this once we told them about it. However, it turned out that the dish's problem was the meat—the beef wasn't fresh. It's unfortunate that after taking a taste, we didn't touch that at all. I would like my meat to be well-seasoned and fresh considering the price I paid

Last week I went to Compass Rose Chinese Restaurant and Bar with 2 good friends. It feels very comfortable and the staff is friendly. We casually ordered some food and drinks, Crispy lamb berry rib with spice cumin and Soft shell crab , King prawn with porcini sauce, we all like it and will definitely come again next time.

Came with my family for Mothers Day, The restaurant has a nice calm atmosphere, service and food was amazing ( so many wonderful dishes to choose from ) with a nice touch of Mothers Day gift too, we also were allowed to use the darts board afterwards a nice ending to our visit Thankyou so much we will be back.

Went with a group of old school friends, pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Staff were attentive but not overbearing, food was supeb and well presented. We will be returning.

Great evening spent at the Compass Rose, absolutely loved the food, had the soft shell crab to start, most delicious & only had it once before in Ibiza, followed by Szechwan prawns & wok fried chips, lovely flavours, served hot & very tasty. Had a couple of cocktails to finish which were lovely too. We had an amazing evening & can’t wait to visit again, highly recommend.

Been to Compass Rose quite a few times now. The bar area is relaxing and chill, but the food in the dining area is absolutely amazing ! Went there again on my daughter's birthday a few weeks back. Again, quality food and quality service ! On average, we spent around £32 per person, including drinks. Good price for the amazing food 👍🏻 There's plenty of parking spaces outside The Compass Rose, but remember to register your vehicle at the reception desk to get Free Parking.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Portsmouth. The food is always fantastic and no matter what I order I am always delighted with my meal! Servers are also great and always efficient, happy and polite. The food quality and services are top-class. You should try it once. Can't wait to return and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to eat in Portsmouth.

My friend doesn’t eat some of the Veg, but he didn’t say at the first time. We spoke to them and they helped us straight away, which very appreciate about that. very good

It’s first time we visit this restaurant in Chinese New year and it’s also our 17th wedding Anniversary. It’s very impress me, it’s a Chinese restaurant with bar and DJ entertainment, so you can enjoy the live music, fresh draft beer and nice Chinese food. The service is very good, we’ll come back again for sure!

They didnt advise we needed to give vehicle reg and I ended up with £85 parking fine, when i called for help the lady just kept repeating we should have said, no signage or mention when i booked, totally furious

Compass Rose is a little gem we discovered recently. It is a pleasant surprise ! The food is of exceptional standard ! The ingredients are fresh and cooked to perfection ! My favorites are the prawn toasts (must try), lamb (starter), scallops, stir fried cabbage (never tasted cabbage cooked so well!), three cups chicken, seafood fried rice and the lovely mocktail ❤️ The service is welcoming. We love the peaceful and delightful ambience. We have already visited twice in the new year (that’s how much we enjoyed the food and service)! Needless to say we highly recommend Compass Rose restaurant to everyone.

A group of 11 had lunch here today. We ordered from the £15 - 2 course menu. Without exception we all thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food. Several of us had the peking ribs - amazing - and main courses of beef in black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken, szechuann chicken, Hampshire pork and the king prawn curry. We had jasmine rice, fried rice, steamed rice and the noodles (which are to die for) So delicious and everything was served piping hot and without long delays. Truly lovely afternoon. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and the service excellent. Cannot fault it. If you haven't yet visited don't waste another minute. You can of course order from the A la carte menu, which is also fabulous but naturally more expensive. They also operate a take away service. You will not be disappointed.

The Compass Rose has recently undergone a revamp and is now a Chinese Restaurant. The food is excellent and the bar is well stocked with quality drinks although it doesn't sell real ale on draught but there are bottles. The atmosphere is very good whether you just want a drink of table service in the restaurant. I went to the Compass on New Years Eve and it was excellent on all counts. The staff were attentive and pleasant, particularly Natalie in the restaurant and Oscar behind the bar. As this is my local, I hope this a sign of things to come and I would recommend the pub/restaurant as a place to eat and drink for those who live in the North of the Portsmouth

Really wonderful place to go to. The inside decor had a pleasant ambiance and was welcomed on arrival. Was checked back on frequently to ensure we were enjoying ourselves. Our server Natalie was lovely, a good laugh and had a really positive vibe about her. Thoroughly recommend the Mongolian beef dish. Can’t wait to go back to try some desserts out Highly recommended, will definitely be returning P.s give Natalie a payrise, just to top it off she chased us up the road when we forgot our leftovers. It was a great meal, we met the owner, and she explained about the compass rose, 10 out of 10, give it a try.

In contrast to today's earlier positive review from a 'dine-in' customer. Our food was ordered via Uber eats. It was our first time using Uber eats and trying food from this place. It arrived late. We called when the initial wait time exceeded and was told it was out for delivery, just over 30mins later it arrived considering we're only a 10min drive away. The food was mostly cold, only the ribs that were in a bath of bbq sauce was warm. Kung Po was honestly the worst I've ever ate, anaemic, gristly, sweaty tasting, devoid of any aromatics and barely a sauce. Chips and rice stone cold. We ordered one main and side/picky bits totalling over £30 for a substandard overpriced meal for two. Would not recommend.

Came for a meal to eat in and very, very impressed... Tidy, clean and family friendly with a nice, calm atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and the service is on point. And the food, oh the food... Is to die for! Absolutely phenomenal, everything cooked to perfection. By far the best Chinese food in Portsmouth.
