Comberton Plaice in Wyre Forest

When we first visited last year (mid 2019) we asked how dog friendly they were - the owner was very helpful, and the response was that we could take our well behaved dog inside to eat, and she - Holly the Collie - also received a sausage. Because of this, and the fact that the freshly cooked food was about the best ever, we returned several times during our time in Kidderminster (working on the SVR), where we - and Holly - were greeted like old friends Then, due to Covid, we didn't return for several months, but when we did it was like it was a totally different place. Clerly under new ownership, only one of the original staff remained; the dog was not allowed inside (so the tables remained empty throughout our stay); the food was pre-cooked so was, at best, warm - and soon became cold due to being outside; the doggie sausage was no longer offered; the quality of the fish was about the same but the chips had gone from 10/10 down to 3/10 - in fact I left half of mine; the range of sugar & caffeine free drinks had disappeared; and the previous warm welcome was now colder than the food. I was previously going to mention Comberton Plaice in an article I have draft written for a dog friendly magazine (postponed due to Covid), where my aim was to promote dog friendliness both on and off the Severn Valley Railway, but I think the chances of this chippie being included is now less than zero. Fair to say that Comberton Plaice ("Friends Comberton Plaice") have seen the last of us.

Wow been three times since covid19 lock down and everytime had amazing food. Chips are hand cut lovely and dry, fish we had haddock freshly done and so sweet, amazing sausages and also great spring rolls .. plus try the kebab.. well may be on separate visits lol. Staff very friendly. Fish is served in individual boxes so u don't get that awful scenario of the chips making the batter soggy. Can't recommend highly enough

I think its the best fish and chip shop I have ever used. Always freshly cooked with generous portions. They also do a delicious Cury. Very friendly owner and staff.

The chips are amazing big and chunky and cooked perfectly not greasy and you get a decent amount. Staff are so friendly even offering tea or coffee to warm you up because it's cold outside if you have to wait for food!

We had a fabulous freshly cooked tasty meal at Comberton Plaice in Kidderminster at the weekend The fish was superbly cooked Loads of chips and tartare sauce with the Haddock that was cooked perfectly The kids were made to feel welcome and we will no doubt visit again. The shop appears to have changed hands again with the new owner being front of house and engaging with the customers. They have extended the menu but maintained the Quality of food on offer. Following a recommendation from the owner I had a kebab in a naan bread with all of the salad, I normally have pitta, and wow what a delight! We will definitely be back, sooner rather than later.

I visit this wonderful establishment as often as I can (normally a couple of times a mo nth at least) and would go 2-3 times weekly if it wasn't a 35 mile round trip! When the new owners took over, I was worried that standards would fall and the gluten free option would disappear. I needn't have worried, the food has got better and the gluten free is brilliant. Probably the best thing is the level of service, all of the staff are excellent without exception and make you feel special and valued.

Wow, talk about customer service. . . These guys have got it alright! Staff were so friendly and really made us feel welcome. Even came to ask how the food was when we were sat outside eating it! Good sized, chunky chips and delicious sausages! No food was wasted! We will certainly be returning here again!

The fish here is always cooked to order and the quality is sublime. Top quality ingredients with staff who know their stuff! If there was a bake off equivalent for a chippy, this place would win.

Not only are all the staff incredibly welcoming and treat you like a friend as opposed to another customer in the queue but the food is fantastic. Fresh, fantastic and exceptionally tasty. I really cannot recommend highly enough ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I have just sampled the Fish and Chips from Comberton Plaice and I am very impressed. The fish was nice and big with no nasty grey bits that other nearby Fish and Chip Shops serve as Standard.The chips were not soggy and didn’t stick to the paper and the portion size was Generous. Despite asking for no salt this was wrongly added but the whole meal was replaced by the Owner.I was very impressed. Overall this has to be the best Chippy for miles around. See you soon

Visited for the first time with hubby son and his partner my son had booked a table and from start to finish everything was more than perfect. Staff friendly food fresh we were truly truly spoilt by the owner and his staff we don’t live in Kidderminster but we are planning a return. Can not fault this place was a lovely experience from start to finish. Wishing you all the success for the future you deserve it 🙂
