A nice café with snacks and delicious cakes. It seems we didn’t have the best communication when ordering, but the waiter immediately helped us out and was very friendly. This allowed us to enjoy our coffee and the great cake under the pergola in beautiful weather. The bathrooms are clean and they provide little fabric towels instead of paper towels (great!). If you’re in this charming little town, we highly recommend the Hidden Garden.

I had a great experience here today for lunch. I have several food intolerances and normally cannot eat out in restaurants as they are understandably unable to cater for these. However, Coltmans were AMAZING. The person who served us went to check with the kitchen the ingredients in all the delicious looking prepared salads, after writing down the foods I cannot have. He told me that I couldn't have any of these salads but they could prepare a house salad. I expected a few leaves maybe some cucumber/tomato. Well, was I amazed when this beauty of a salad came out. It even had pomegranate seeds! They gave me a little jug of olive oil for the dressing too. One of the most delicious salads I have had. The cod was cooked to perfection too. Would highly recommend this restaurant, especially if you have food intolerances and normally cannot eat much/anything on the menu.

If you are lucky enough to be in Peebles on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night you must give Coltmans a try. Last night some friends and I had the May tasting menu and everything we ate was unbelievably delicious. It was all beautifully thought out, cooked and presented. I honestly don't think you could find better food anywhere. The service was excellent too.

After a bit of hill walking in the area we popped into Coltman’s having previously seen it had good reviews on Tripadvisor. There is a small seating area opposite an attractive display of cakes upon entering, however upon enquiring about lunch we were led to the rear of the property to a bright room with a log burner where lunches were being served. The “All Day” menu gave a decent choice of soup, salads, platters, hot sandwiches (around £16) and seven mains dishes. Not aimed at anyone looking for a toastie I’d guess. My wife decided to have Chicken Paillard, served with caper and lemon butter, green salad and fries (£16.50) and I opted for Grilled Salmon, served with spring greens and salsa verde (£16.50). The chicken was nice and juicy and the salad included fresh black olives - the only olives my wife will eat! The fries were delicious too and such was the portion that I had to assist her to eat them. The dish was overall very well received. The salmon was cooked perfectly and there were lots of nice flavours, including capers, in the salsa verde to make the potatoes and fresh greens a perfect accompaniment (along with some fries!). High quality food nicely presented would sum it up. There was no dessert menu available but we were invited to have a look at the cakes we had seen at the entrance. My wife decided to try the Sticky Toffee Biscoff Slice (£3.55) and I had a slice of Blueberry Sponge Cake (£3.85) together with a couple of Americano coffees (£3.05 each). My wife was disappointed in her selection - a bit too solid in texture and lacking in sticky toffee flavour. My sponge cake by comparison had a light sponge, lovely blueberry flavour and the icing topping was special. The coffee was very good too. The idea of having tap water in Harris Gin bottles was a nice touch although it wasn’t particularly chilled. By the time we added a 125 ml glass of Sangiovese wine (£4.95) and a Diet Coke (£2.60) with the food the bill came to just over £54 which we thought was good value for the quality lunch provided. Service was “efficient” and there were a number of guests to provide a pleasant ambiance in the cosy room . Much to our surprise the toilets were a bit of a let-down. My wife found the ladies toilets, combined with the disabled and baby changing facilities, were a bit messy; whilst the toilet seat in the gents was stained beyond recovery and should be replaced. Great tasting food is the attraction.

Had a night away in Peebles just after New Year without the kids, and arranged a bite to eat at Coltmans mid afternoon and before they closed earlier during the winter opening hours. Walked into the restaurant part and were met with the log burner on and a quiet setting. Ordered a few courses and a glass of wine and the food was incredible. Forgot to leave a review at the time, but could not recommend the place enough. The food was so good that when we left, we looked back through the window at the cafe part of the restaurant and went back in to collect some incredible home made sausage rolls, salad and cakes for our evening snacks at the hotel.

A lovely lunch. But the time of our sitting, all the deli sandwiches were finished. However the hot sandwiches we had were very tasty and filling. Only one thing let it down and stops me from giving 5 stars. My friend has an allergy to egg and when she ordered she told them this. However, there was mayonnaise put on her lunch, which if she hadn't checked would have been a disaster. This then meant that I nearly finished my lunch by the time hers came along.

The servers at the deli bar were extremely unpleasant and unwelcoming from the minute we walked in. We asked nicely for a table for 8 when we were told that they couldn’t accommodate us in the restaurant which is fine. So then we agreed to just order from the counter for ease but the young woman with dark hair rudely refused to serve us because we were paying separately as “it would take too long to write out all the receipts”. The glowing reviews are not exaggerated: Coltman's is a jewel of a restaurant/cafe! We decided against the one place in Peebles that's in The Good Food Guide, and picked this place instead for dinner. We couldn't have had a better evening--it's a destination restaurant with a talented and imaginative chef. My husband's chicken was moist, and suffused with tarragon, and my fish, with nice crispy skin, had a deep, silky sauce which I surreptitiously drank from the plate. The menu isn't huge (a good sign) and reflects what's available and in season, perfectly cooked. The service was warm and welcoming. They get the atmosphere just right: no irritating background music, no waiter who keeps interrupting to ask if you like the food--they come to help just when you need them, and otherwise leave you to enjoy yourself, which we did so much that we returned for breakfast the next day. And did I say that it's astonishingly good value, for food cooked to this standard. Lucky residents of Peebles, to have this place in their lovely town! Now, to tell The Good Food Guide to include Coltman's in their next edition....

Our first visit was pretty nice but the second visit left a lot to be desired.. The coffee was weak, and then I noticed the older lady making coffee was splitting one espresso between 2 cups...not impressed. Along with that the service is poor, you'll be left waiting for a long time while staff and locals chat about their lives ignoring you. Back of house staff know what they are doing but front of house seriously need training and better manners. Won't be going back. Also our dog was constantly harrased by small children while we were trying to enjoy our breakfast. The prices on the menu are also wrong so it was a surprise when it came to paying the bill. All in all, not a great experience and not up to par with service elsewhere. Generally lazy and inconsiderate.

We stopped in here for some lunch after staying at Peebles Hydro. It was quite busy inside, while waiting to get seated someone said if you order at the counter there is seating outside in the garden. Since it was a cracking day we did that. We both had the club sandwiches and the portion size was massive, great value for money and very fresh and tasty. Despite being busy we didn't have to wait to long for the food either. The garden seating outside was lovely, a great selection of tables all with options to have shade or not. It was clear the staff were busy, which is great to see, but had someone else in the restaurant not told us about ordering at the counter and the outside seating we might not have had such a great experience.

This place made me very sad . It looks gorgeous, is set in beautiful surroundings, and the food was nice (although they had no sauces for the burger, which was a bit tragic). It was a place I was hoping to love but unfortunately the service was unfriendly and made us feel as if we were an inconvenience. I think maybe we were there on an off day (I can only imagine so, given the large number of enthusiastic reviews) but it wasn't somewhere we'd want to return to. Edited to add: it was very quiet when we were there. Only one other table was in. It may be that the waiting staff were exhausted from a busy lunch time and that was why they were so off-hand.

A weekend away in the Scottish Borders led to us unexpectedly finding this wonderful restaurant in the Yarrow Valley today. It was one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in years (delicious local beef and pork) and a seriously tempting menu focussed around local ingredients by Bryn Jones. The honey cake for dessert by @she.likesbaking was also incredible and I’ve only just realised that Oxana Jones is not only a wonderful front-of-house host, but also an extremely talented baker. Thank you to your team, it was a memorable lunch and we’ll definitely be back for one of your tasting menus and an overnight stay.

Great little spot with friendly staff and good home cooked food. Opted for the bigger breakfast and was impressed with the quality of the ingredients. Great vibe in the seating area and very handy as close to town centre. Decent value for money and set us up for the day.
