Average food. Service was excellent and very friendly and fast. Avoid the sweet potato fritters, they seem like sweet potato rolled in paxo stuffing mix and fried. Not as nice as it possibly sounds.

Judging by the more negative reviews I read after our visit we got off light. Our service was ok, but our mains were served before one of our party had finished their starter, and no condiments were offered or brought. We could see cutlery needed to be got ourselves but no mention we had to get our own salt and pepper too. And cutlery was brought with the desserts so it was a little confused what we ordered the staff were meant to doing. The seats half of them had bird shit on their backs. The mains were good. The starters average. My prawn cocktail came with bread but no butter or margarine I had to ask for it. The desserts were mixed..I had the tiramisu as did my husband but it was only described as tiramisu. It was not. It was sponge cake, with a narrow band of filling and the same on top of the sandwich..Zero coffee or chocolate flavour even on the brown sauce zig zagged sort of on the plate. No boozey flavour either. The cream accompaniment was a tablespoon at best. Not enough to make this dry bland tasting sponge cake edible and the top sponge took the place of where there should have been more mascarpone. It was the most teeny sliver of mascarpone possible in middle and on top about half to 3/4 a cm deep. See picture of the sponge I left from my portion of 'tiramisu'.

Badly lit table. They lit a candle to brighten things up. Rowdy clientele, confusion over drinks and food delivery, was it table service or order at bar. Pricey.

We used to come to this pub from time to time as it’s close to home. On the last 3 occasions, we had to wait more than ONE HOUR for the food, this in the manner that we had on each occasion 2 x children with us. Understandable if it is a busy weekend, but this last time was a Monday and the pub was not full!!! The manager’s attitude was despicable, asking us, and quote: “what do you want me to do?”, when asked why the children’s food did not arrive yet?!? We understand that this is not a restaurant, but we tried to give it an extra shot when the first time failed. Then the second time we tried again. But this third time was absolutely beyond common sense, especially when the attitude was of such nature of rejecting our complaints. This is my opinion, but my partner’s and table colleagues will follow shortly. Will try my best not to step through the door again!!

Awful service and the worse management I ever encountered! This is the third time ( our fault we tried to give it another go) when we specifically asked for our children’s food to come out first, but the starters arrived, in excess of 1 hour and still no kids food. When we asked the manager about this issue, we received the following answer: “What do you want me to do?”, when clearly any manager would simply do their job and come up with a solution! The kitchen system (sending the starters first, no kids food, no mains and starters together ..etc) and the management’s attitude (not the first time we are being belittled by this lady) are despicable! We will never return to this pub!!

If i will have the option to give them zero stars I will do . The worse experience I ever had . To wait a hour for 2 starters and my kid crying waiting for his food , which never arrived because we decide to leave the pub when we ask the manager how long will take for kid food , and her answer was , “ I can not do anything because you order starters “( We told the waiter we want the kid food first or at least in the same time ) . Awful service and the worst manager I ever see. She doesn’t have any idea how the business should be run. I will never return.

Its not the first one second time when we are going with our family there, we ordered starters and mains, every time we specify that we want the kids food as soon as possible, after 1 hour they bring as 2 starters, we ask the manager about the rest of the food, she said that we ordered starters, after that she just let to check out the food, she comes back and said 5 minutes, after 5 minutes we paid for what we had and we left… the manager was asking us, what you want me to do… they were tables that ordered after us and they got the food before….

Really lovely visit for a Mother’s Day lunch. Erin went out her way to make my mum feel special and it was really appreciated.

Once again 10/10 great food great service (with a smile). Untill next time.

Had a nice lunch but service was very slow. The waitress was doing her best but they need more staff when popular loyalty promotions are on. We paid full price and didn't expect such a long delay in lunch service. Shame as otherwise a great place and will definitely return.

Was a really good experience was given a warm welcome with a smile by Georgina who was our waitress. She was very polite and friendly. And very prompt. Service was very good . Have been several times before on Sunday for a big roast with friends using the semi private room. Called up to book our next gathering to be told they no longer take big bookings at time we wanted because of 'pub policy'. The lady was rude and offered no help other than 2 times that do not work (who wants a roast at 12pm or 4pm! when you have kids!). After we have spent hundreds of pounds over quite a few visits, this was an awful way to treat customers Terrible customer service

Booked at last minute for Sunday lunch. Have been before and always had a good experience. Today was no exception apart from the beef roast which despite asking for a steak knife, was still tough to cut and hard work to eat. Used to have a beef shin on the Sunday menu which was always delicious and fell off the bone but unfortunately is not on the menu anymore. Apart from this would say that the service was very quick and efficient. No waiting for food or drinks orders. A special mention to our Waitress, Abby. A lovely pleasant girl, very friendly and efficient. She more than made up for the not so wonderful beef.

Came today for lunch and was super busy, Georgina our server was pleasant enough but food was a long wait. Found out that there were only 2 chefs in, so understandable but food was cold even though they where busy. Have been before and was better, won't rush coming back but doesn't mean would avoid. Just average 😀

Two nights accommodation and evening meal. Absolutely excellent and amazing staff, lovely cosy ( open fire even in the morning) bar and restaurant. Bedrooms clean and very comfortable beds and crisp linen, soft towels. Excellent evening meal. We had to change time and numbers at last min and staff were brilliant. Best rib eye steak cooked to perfection. Looking forward to a return visit. Thank you

We met up on a Sunday at the Colney fox with friends from Cambs. We picked the location as a halfway point between London and Cambs. Super easy off the M25. We had dogs, so that was part of the criteria. As we arrived in the huge parking, we were concerned the place may be too commercial. As soon as we entered, we felt the warmth of the atmosphere and the faces of people enjoying the meals. There's ample space inside and ability to accommodate large groups. The staff are warm and fun. Dogs had free treats, and the food didn't disappoint. I had the pie of the day, and it was full of flavour. Absolutely loved it. The portions are generous too. Would definitely recommend it 👌

We love the Colney Fox and come here quite a lot. The building has a great atmosphere. Georgina is a great waitress and feels like a friend as we’ve seen her so often. The menu has choices for everyone and the seabass is my favourite, the lasagne is my husbands. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 2 nights just before New Year & we both agreed we will return next time we go to London. All the staff were welcoming & friendly, despite being really busy both evenings. The food is great too, I highly recommend the Fish & Chips! Breakfast was also good & again we couldn’t fault the service. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Lovely pub that we picked as we had dogs and was meeting family half way. Nice and Christmassy. Crackers on the table. Staff was friendly and attentive. Ordered the lamb shank, little dry but overall meals were good. Easily parked, disabled toilets and nice atmosphere with its history and fires roaring.

We have frequented the Colney fox several times throughout 2024 all of which have been an enjoyable experience with friendly staff, good tasty food and an efficient service. Based on that We decided to book a table for 6 for Christmas dinner. The starters and mains were all very tasty and portioned well, resulting in 6 empty plates for both courses! However, the deserts let the meal down slightly with soft crackers and dry cheese and unpleasant tasting cream accompanying the meringue. Both of these issues should and could have been avoided if the crackers had not been refrigerated and added to the cheese board just prior to serving, and the cream being refrigerated and added to the meringue just prior to service. Overall we had an enjoyable afternoon.
