Colney Fox in St Albans

Food took a while to come but that was fine as we weren't in a rush. When it did arrive however it was cold, the fries terribly so. I therefore politely requested that they be changed for hot fresh ones. Our server, who I believe was also the manager or supervisor, touched the fried with his bare hands and agreed. We were left with our burgers and so I assumed they would be quick. This was not the case, and so by the time they had arrived, we had finished our burgers. I communicated this was disappointing and not acceptable, and I was met with only rudeness and attitude. I quote, "Do you want the fries or not?". I was absolutely dumbfounded by the lack of acceptance of the inconvenience and error, and also the rudeness. Such a shame, the burgers were nice and we had enjoyed coming here as a family. I won't be going back. I accept mistakes happen, and so I judge on how they are dealt with. This was one massive fail. Sack whoever this incompetent manager with zero customer service skills is. I'd put him on toilet cleaning duty only!

We stayed here for 2 nights, Saturday and Sunday. It is in a brilliant location, close to the train station and in a pretty area. The rooms are clean, the staff are lovely, and pub is so cozy! I'd definitely reccomend for a night or two away, or just a meal and a drink. The only reason as to why I didn't rate this place highter is because my fish and chips was very dry and didn't taste freshly made at all. I think I must have just got a bad batch though, as my partner loved his. Everything else was perfect, and we will be back.

A friendly welcome at the bar and taken straight to our table in the cosy dining room. Although the restaurant was busy service was prompt. Our server Elisa was a delight, so friendly and efficient. Food was tasty and well presented. Would have stayed here over the weekend but their bedrooms were already booked

My family of 9 had lunch and drinks on Sunday 13th Oct it was absolutely amazing! Staff were outstanding went beyond to make us welcome .We all had a fabulous afternoon the atmosphere was fantastic as was the food ! We will certainly without a doubt be returning, we have booked again for Christmas Day lunch , and are all very much looking forward ! Thank you 🥂

Amazing evening. I went for dinner with my son and my grand children and we all had a really great time, great food and an irreproachable service - Sian has been looking after us with all the attention you expect for a lovely evening. I highly recommend the place - and you should definitely ask to be cared by Sian.

Our visitor from South Africa wanted to experience an English pub Sunday roast so we took her to the Colney Fox and it didn't disappoint. We had the roast pork belly, my favourite, roast beef and a meatless roast. Delicious with plenty of veg and gravy. Our waitress Shan was quick, friendly and efficient and our friend had a lovely experience. Thanks to Martin and his team.

Came for the first time today for a Sunday roast and it was absolutely gorgeous! Speedy service, hot food, friendly staff would definitely recommend! Sian you have been amazing thank you for taking such good care of our table

Liam was a great guy. Kept me well hydrated and conversed with me to provide the perfect service. As a hospitality worker, he is the top tier and I would be lucky to have him a a colleague, and even luckier to have him as a server.

A large group of us (9 adults, 2 small children) had Sunday lunch here to celebrate my Dad's 80th birthday. From initial booking to paying after the meal, everything was handled with warmth and professionalism. Staff were really helpful and attentive, providing a baby chair for my cousin's 1-year-old, and a high-backed chair for me to rest my neck on! Food was delicious, beautifully presented, and generously portioned. There was a wide choice; some of us had roast dinners, some had fish and chips. There were good options for the vegetarians too. All our many whims were patiently catered to, and we particularly appreciated the candles brought out with my Dad's dessert! All in all it was a fantastic afternoon, and the staff deserve the highest of praise for their hard work. We all enjoyed ourselves and would definitely come again!

Stayed at the Pub in one of the very lovely rooms. The restaurant was absolutely fantastic. Both had the Lamb shanks as was cooked to perfection. The service was second to none, and Luca our server was excellent, very polite and friendly. Would highly recommend.

Visited whilst on an overnight stay before heading off on holiday. Sunday Roast Beef was good, nice and rare as we like it, loads of veg and lashings of gravy. Waiter Ollie was very attentive. Sadly no Crumble mini pud but Brownie was very nice 😋

Stayed a night here. Clean, nice sized room, lovely building, great staff, plenty of parking. Couldn't ask for any more, really. Perfect for Warner Bros studio which was a 18 min drive

One beef burger, and one chickem burger. Delicious. Something to suit most tastes on the menu. Service exceptional, thanks Ollie. The parking is good, put your car reg in on entering - a chilled atmosphere.

Fabulous food, atmosphere and service. Georgina is always so welcoming, friendly and professional. Shared another lovely evening with a friend last night, as always, food was lovely and Sian and Amy looked after us perfectly.

Great food and service. They only thing that bothered me was that they wanted to charge for another tea when I asked them to top up my tea pot with hot water. All other places I dine in are happy to do it.

Moved to USA and happy to be back in UK for annual vist and looking forward to a famous British Sunday roast ... the beef was sooo overcooked it was like it came from crematorium ... and cook , chef , food truck owner in USA served beef that dry would be fired and this is the land of roast beef ... even extra gravy couldn't moisten it. Roast potatoes hard old reheated feel ... maybe at 7 pm on a Sunday it is re heated leftovers but paid a lot for what was not very good food at all.... staff very good

Moved to USA was over for annual trip looking forward to famous British Roast beef Sunday roast ... beef was soooo overcooked anyone in USA in a restaurant, cafe or food truck serving beef this dry and cremated would be out of a job and this is the land of roast beef ... roast potatoes tough like reheated we ate about 7 pm so if the roast is old news and wayyyy past its best don't serve it and change £19 .... even extra gravy didnt help ... worst roast dinner I've ever had

Just got a £100 parking fine reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days after visiting the pub with the family after spending near on £400. My fault didn’t see the pay & display machine as you wouldn’t go looking to pay to park visiting a pub. Pure greed on the pub having a private company catching people out. Will definitely not be returning out of principle.
