Coffee at The Rose House in Perth & Kinross

Writing this on behalf of my mum Sadie, and Auntie Sis from The Plains. They have a lovely time yesterday in your place. Food was amazing and they loved catching you with you. Maybe see you again sometime x

Visited yesterday for afternoon tea to celebrate a birthday with friends & family in the upstairs room. What a lovely afternoon it was! The food was delicious, the room, with fresh flowers on the table and beautifully decorated, was so lovely, as was the whole place. The staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, refilling tea and coffee pots several times. The Hostess’s daughter managed to keep our Prosecco glasses well filled up too! Altogether a very enjoyable experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

Delicious! Italian small plates…pizza, polpetti sharing platters, caprese, bruschetta and tirimisu. Fantastic food with a lovely atmosphere. Thank you, we will be back x

The Rose House is a great place for a cup of tea and light lunch! A small menu but the food is made fresh. Really friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.

We stopped by yesterday for lunch as our preferred place (Hinterland) was full. It’s a lovely space, but the service wasn’t great and the soup was too salty. Not sure I’ll bother again.

What happened? Bread cold as though just defrosted, Brie tasteless and overwhelmed by cranberry sauce, bacon; one cold skinny strip. This is not the standard we are accustomed to at the Rose House. Tea was good. Leave the grumpy face at home.

This is such a very nice gift shop and cafe. Spotlessly clean, friendly staff and reasonably priced delicious food. What's not to like? Unfortunately we tried to visit last Sunday and it was shut, despite the Web site saying they are open 11 until 4 on a Sunday. And the sign on their door! And their land line is disconnected. What a shame Apparently they have not been open on a Sunday since Xmas. Understand the difficulties of running a business and staffing problems, but please, ensure your website is up to date so potential customers do not have a wasted trip.

Found this a month or so back, when getting My COVID jab in the old bank building next door. Loved it. Returned with my wife today - you had moved! Fortunately one of the workmen at your old address pointed me along the street and across the road to your new premises. So glad to see you there. Popped in for coffee and a custard tart (my favourite) and great to see it was as good as I hoped, again. Great staff, very OK prices. Good British/ Scottish fare, in a nice new setting. Highly recommend.

Went for coffee after an appointment. The staff were above and beyond friendly. Happy to serve. Most of the sweet choices were home made. Chose Coffee and fresh baked fruit scone with butter and apricot jam. Scone was warm and delicious and coffee was perfection. Glad that the jam came in it's own little tub and not the bland packaged kind. When paying, was informed that they were moving premises as they needed bigger place due to popularity. Very chatty and friendly.

I won an afternoon tea for 2 at the rose house at a breast cancer now event, WOW sums it up, service was absolutely amazing and the afternoon tea was delicious, everything we ate had a wow after the first bite, from the sandwiches, cakes, scones and cheese and crackers, I will definitely be back again, best afternoon tea I’ve had

WOW fantastic find. Staff so friendly and helpful. Toilets absolutely spotless. The coffee was 1st class. Its been a long time since I had such a great coffee. Menu good, varied and very very reasonable. I had a scone which are made in house daily as is a lot of the cakes. Such a wonderful find in the heart of Perth. Hope to be back very soon.

Located in the heart of Perth’s pedestrianised shopping area, this is an attractive looking café with plenty of foliage around the entranceway. In fact, from glancing at it initially, I rather thought it was actually a florists! We were only popping in for a snack, and the array of cakes in the counter looked very appealing, and I really couldn’t decide what to go for. The Victoria Sponge was certainly very tempting, as was the Trillionaire’s Shortbread although I noticed this was a vegan version which rather put me off. I can’t help thinking that some dishes lend themselves more towards vegenisation than others, and one that should have butter in the pastry base, butter in the caramel and milk in the chocolate doesn’t seem to be an obvious contender. I swerved to the carrot cake at the last minute and was glad I did, for this was a decent portion and very tasty with a lovely iced topping and a moist base. A lemon meringue pie across the table was slightly less successful perhaps, nothing really wrong with it, but it just tasted rather like one you’d get out of a supermarket packet rather than something freshly baked. Service was a little slow to the point that we chased ours up, as people who had ordered after us, and had things such as sandwiches that had to be assembled, were being served before us. I can only assume ours had been left somewhere and forgotten about, as it then arrived almost immediately. The accompanying latte was pretty good too. Overall, despite a couple of niggles, I thought this was pretty decent and would happily return if in the area.

I’ll start the review by saying that I understand the current financial climate and how hard it is for small businesses but…. The place looks lovely from the outside and is in a very good location. However, that’s where the positives end. The place wasn’t very warm but I paid £8.95 for a roast beef sandwich and some soup. The sandwich was made out of supermarket bread that had clearly been defrosted. Then there was the filling or lack of. The beef was the cheapest, thinnest rubbish from the supermarket and consisted of 1 thin measly slice. No cheese, no tomato or anything else one may expect to garnish a classic sandwich. The soup was ok to taste but it was literally one kids cup worth! Come on, it’s embarrassing. I haven’t eaten such a bad sandwich since my high school days in the scaffy old canteen. The UK food revolution has bypassed this place. Yes, the economy is tough right now but this was embarrassingly bad!

We discovered this wee gem of a coffee house some time before Covid and really missed not visiting during lockdown and the subsequent travel restrictions. We’ve been back a few times since restrictions have eased and glad to say the coffee and food are as good as ever.

Staff were very friendly upon arrival and were helpful when ordering. We were in for a coffee and cake, both of which were delicious. Our first time at this lovely cafe and look forward to returning!

We usually break our journey when traveling north from Edinburgh. This was our first experience of The Rose House, and it was a positive one. We had a small quiche and salad which was fresh and tasty. This was followed by nice hot tea and lemon drizzle cake. The cake was nice, but in the spirit of constructive criticism, we would have liked the cake with more lemon zest. The Rose House will definitely be our new go-to stopover when traveling north.

I was gifted a voucher for the vintage afternoon tea for my 60th birthday and I have to say, it was one of the best afternoon tea I've had. Lovely people, very friendly place. My husband and myself have often passed this coffee shop, and promised ourselves a visit. We will be back on a regular basis from now on.
