Great. Massive portions, good food.

Got fish and chips several times before - usually good - not so on Saturday- was very busy but fish was awful, orders were being taken wrong - will visit again and if improved will give a better review- tip - get orders right and when you’re taking peoples money don’t over cook the fish- Really not good

Not impressed. Waited hour and a half when it said it would be 30 mins. called and told was next out, 40 mins later still waiting. won't be using again.

Food was good as always but total delivery time was nearly an hour and 45 minutes. I know it’s a Friday night but still a long time to wait for a relatively small order.

The oil definitely needed changing for the chips, the sausage was lukewarm but for the most part we enjoyed the meals. A prompt delivery and bonus the delivery Man was very polite. I will order again another day for a second try.

Was good, portions for the jacket potato could have been a bit more, as was about £6 and was just a potato and a little bit of tuna on top not worth that £6.

Definitely the best on Portland. They did change the size of their chips at one point, but I'm pleased to say they're back to normal now.

Food was very cold and item misssing

Freshly cooked lunchtime chips, fluffy and crispy.

Fish was completely over cooked. Batter was burnt and cod was like rubber. Inedible. Very disappointing. Obviously reheated from earlier.

was ment to be here at 17.15 didn't turn up till 6.05pm, chips were barely warm! disappointed

Overpriced for what it is. Food was ok, nothing special but poor value for money. Add ons like ketchup also too expensive, staff not open to compromise. Overall disappointing, left feeling short changed

2 nights ago I ordered fish and chips just after 5pm . Turned up at 6.45 wasn't even warm . So declined the order won't be ordering from there again . Thing is there food is nice portions are good and chips don't turn to rubber like other ones do when start to cool down

Well ,I literally had one of the best chips ever, I always have my chips (from chippy) with salt and vinegar, this time I ordered salt only, crispy on the outside fluffy inside tasted amazing, recommended

Food was excellent again but ordered a bottle of Fanta orange (£2.85) and it never arrived with the order.

What a place, the menu selection is superb, the quality of the food is fantastic and the service and delivery are phenomenal, honestly I would run out of superlatives to describe how good the food was and will be ordering regularly while I’m in the area so thank you.

Can't rate the food as they refused to cook any, apparently staff had bought most of 'what was left'. No point being open till 9 30 if you won't cook until then. Terrible service. Walked in 15 minutes before you apparently 'closed' joke.

Took over half an hour to get a takeaway, then went and sat up at portland to eat. The order was wrong, and it wasn't very good either 😕

I have to say the haddock and chips that I ate last night were the best I have ever eaten from a chippy! I didn't go inside the shop as my husband went in to order. It was a bit confusing where to park to collect as in a residential area. We had a to wait a while before we could eat our meal, but the fish stayed very hot in the box that it was packaged in. Chips reminded me of the ones my Granny used to cook, and I really enjoyed the food. Thank you

Very good food, place was super busy and hectic but young lad at the front was smashing it and getting orders sorted.

Oh my god, the batter here is to die for. Always nice fish too. Quick and fresh despite busy. This time I tried the homemade cake and it is ridiculously good. I think the chefs here must be very skilled.

The service was excellent. It's really busy, and most food is freshly cooked. Shop looks clean and small wait for our food. Chips was amazing, really tasty, soft inside and nice and salty. I brought a large portion of chips £5, which was a very disappointing size, in what you used to get. Before, it would be enough for 4 people. This was just over handful each, but it was really tasty. Battered sausage was nice and crispy. Godfather has always been a good, excellent chip shop, with pletty items on the menu.

Great fish and chips. Large portions. Would go for the medium cod next time as quite pricey (not a criticism as all chippies seem to be nowadays)

Very yum fish and chips. I got kids cod and chips and the portions size was very good for the price. And the staff was very friendly made a nice atmosphere while we waited for our food.

Pretty good, I'd say in the top 5, out of all the fish & chips that I've had, I've travelled the southwest coastal path from Weymouth to Watchet & I've had more fish & chips than I can remember, this was nice, well cooked, the chips were definitely from good quality potatoes, not fries, proper chips, everything was cooked to perfection, I had the gluten free cod, chips & curry sauce. Excellent quality, good-sized fish & great chips.

We ordered 2 cod and chips with curry sauce and mushy peas. It was definitely one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, everything was spot on. Owner is friendly also 👍

Ordered on just eat to collect within 20 minutes. Took about an hour all told and they said onion rings took 30 mins themselves - missing haddock and peas fallen in their batter??? Very busy tonight but should have proper procedures in order to deal with this. Someone came to deliver haddock thankfully but no apology..

It was missing a £2.85 bottle of Diet Coke.

Amazing stopped here as kids moaning they were hungry, we had a large chips and kids had cheesy chips, the large chips were massive well worth the money and tastes amazing

All cold. Worst chips I've had in a while, Stale buttered roll and one item missing. £40 for 2 adults and 2 kids disappointing, wouldn't be recommending here to our guests staying here. Please try to up the standard!

We ordered two small fish and chips and peas fritter on Saturday, had been looking forward to them all day. It was the worst fish and chips we had ever had, normally they are lovely. But the chips tasted as they had been reheated and the fish batter tasted raw. 😫

Worst fish & chips I have ever had, popped in whilst passing by. Got cheese chips well I might as well of not bothered, smallest portion I have ever had ! Also the Taste of the chips was like eating Charcoal. I will not be returning in the near future.

Food was awful tonight. They don’t do the same size chips every time. Sometimes a small can feed 2 adults and a toddler and every now and then it barely feeds 1 adult. Food tonight was cold and missing items. I didn’t want to wait for the new food to come as had already taken an hour to I reheated it. Honestly wish I had just got a refund as reheating it made it even worse specially the fish which I found loads of bones in and chips were better chucked in the air fryer to finish cooking as they weren’t actually cooked in the first place and still hard in the middle let alone turning up cold. This is happening more and more I love the staff in there when I go in but deliveries is just awful and never right.

Personally I think all the negative reviews are from snooty people who expect Rick stein and don't appreciate a good old fashion chippy. Those complaining about missing items more than likely went in the hight of tourist season and caught them at an exceptionally busy period as we had no issues at all. The codfather has great prices, great big portions and friendly, polite staff. Our first time coming to portland and will be more than happy to return to the codfather on our next visit.

We were staying in Portland for a long weekend, this chippy seemed super busy as we drove past and was still busy as we came back so decided this must be a good sign and called in. Range and availability was excellent and so was the food itself. Don't know if I'll be down here again but if I am I will definitely be calling I'm for a chippy tea.

Visiting Portland for a mini-break and popped in here for fish & chips. Ordered a small portion which was the size of a regular portion at home! Freshly cooked and absolutely delicious. The chips are obviously real potatoes (not nasty frozen uniform cuts). This was the best takeaway F&C dinner I have had for many years.

Just had haddock and chips, best fish n chips I've had for YEARS. Friendly service, great food. If I lived near I'd use them every week. Top marks.

Chips had black tiny particles on them. Felt overpriced and staff was unsure of things. No vinegar or salt was added or offered. Would not return.

This fish and chip shop used to be the best on Portland....not anymore unfortunately. The chips are big and squishy not crispy at all. The fish batter very gloopy, thick and undercooked not crispy. Deliveries on more occasions have been wrong with items missing or worse stone cold (pot of curry sauce). It's a shame as less than 5years ago it was excellent. You got massive portions of nice crispy chips and very large crispy fish.

Great food lovely vegetable curry!!

The large chips is VERY large. It easily fed two adults and two children (10 and 12 yrs) when we went. The fish was beautifully cooked

Delicious chips, crispy on the outside and succulent creamy on the inside, just like they used to be years ago and good size fillets of fish. We bought four portions for four people whereas two portions would just about have been enough.

Had a cod and chips from here two days ago. The fish was freshly cooked to order and was excellent. The chips were really thick (really good) but tasted strange. I think the chip oil was in desperate need of changing. Price was very reasonable at £8.50

Great fish & chips. Absolutely delicious. Not greasy or soggy. Just yum. Don't ask for the large portion unless you brought a wheelbarrow.

Definitely not my favourite fish and chip place, but after getting a hair in my kebab, which wasn't as I stated in the order either(without hair obviously but the ingredients were wrong too) I wouldn't go again. I don't understand why people seem to like it..

After checking online and ordering over the phone. I was surprised with the cost quoted when I collected and paid. A lot more than what's advertised on the menu on their website. 2 x Savaloy and chips for £10.50 is a bit steep. I appreciate cost of living is increasing but some people are not going to pay this and your going to lose custom. Perhaps it goes down after holiday season?? Well if I return for my at Portland again I will think again returning to Cod Fathers and go else where 😉

Disappointed if truth be told ...had cod & chips with curry sauce. Have had better back home which is nowhere near the sea.Chips were reasonable & the curry sauce was good...I might be wrong but we both thought the fish was frozen & not fresh. Offers delivery which is fair enough.

We were told a good place to go but very disappointed unfortunately, fish tasted like frozen , chips not bad but more crunchy ones than nice fat chips , curry sauce lovely all though it was buisy and a little confusion with orders won't go again I'm afraid

Got there at dead on 2pm and he wouldn't let me in...... proper ignorant and found it quite funny too! Off back to Rays we go!
