I like that you can get a breakfast/brunch dish all day. I had Eggs Royale, delicious by the way, for dinner. My partner recommends the Tagine. Place itself is nothing fancy but the staff were great and seemed both grateful and surprised to be given a tip. Parking nearby though during shopping hours it would be a bit trickier. Reasonably priced, decent choice of drinks. Vegan choices fairly restricted. I'll definitely be returning. High chairs available for little uns.

Great local pub, food excellent

We went here for our father's day meal, 3 dad's and our partners. The place was not busy and the food was first class, some of the menu was off, but we were offered alternatives. The staff did get our order a bit wrong but we were happy and did not complain. I would go again.

It's a family-style coffee shop with a nice atmosphere. The only drawback is that the food is pretty mediocre, but the environment is really comfortable.

Good coffee stop. The young staff really work hard and very friendly. Shame they gave reduced the lotalty stamps required for a free coffee.

Just visited for a low-key birthday celebration on Sunday evening. Have been for daytime coffees so thought we'd give it a go. Have to say we were rather disappointed. My daughter had the roast which had clearly been kept warm since lunchtime (maybe not the best choice), the beef was on the chewy side. My husband had the pie which he said was lovely. Sadly the amount of veg served with the two dishes was insufficient, was really on suitable for one portion. I had the curry which was tasty, just not enough rice. All in all, Coates LL etc themselves down on lack of veg and rice. Maybe a earlier cut off time for the roast as better to finish early than serve up potatoes which are way past their time. Service wasn't brilliant, we didn't wait any longer for dessert menu, we just went to the desk and paid. Always try and support local businesses, but I don't think we will be returning. Shame as they've done a fab job on the renovations.

First time I have tried it since it changed hands, I wasn't disappointed, food was good. Not too expensive, I certainly will be back.

Recent change of hands and the quality of food and service is even better. Easily the best place in Nailsea.

Needs to improve its beer range to keep long-standing customers. Was once a great place to find ales from local breweries, now choice of one for £6.

Probably great for families, but it was noisy, full of pushchairs & not really conducive to a nice chat over coffee.

I've been coming to Coates for years and it's been consistently great. This was my first visit since change of owners. Got there just before midday, all was well, friendly staff, we ordered and received our tea before the food. We were so into chatting before we suddenly realised we'd been waiting over 40 minutes. My friend asked and we discovered our order hadn't been put through, even though we'd paid for it. We were asked if we still wanted it and we said of course we did but it had to be very quick as my friend was catching a train. One of the staff came and said it was her fault and apologised and said we could have something extra or a discount. We went for a discount. My friend and I both felt it was unfair to the member of staff that the manager didn't come and apologise as ultimately it is their responsibility. Anyway, we got our food which was good and some money off. And my friend just got to her train on time (luckily we'd got to Coates early otherwise she'd have missed it or we would have gone hungry. I will go again but urge management to take more accountability.

Stopped for a quick lunch one Friday just as the new Autumn/Winter menu has been launched. This is the chicken schnitzel and battered hake garlic ciabattas with a side of fries. We were a little worried about having enough time to eat but this arrived promptly. The food was very tasty although there was a little too much garlic in the bread. But this is a consistently good neighbourhood cafe bar which is always on our list of places to eat.

I went there for an evening meal. The steak was good. Potion of chips was a lot got one person . Wine was good. Staff excellent. Food very good. I would go there again.

Good place for brunch! Though, no smoked salmon and poached eggs which is what I really fancied!! And no eggs Benedict! But there is a lot on the menu and what I did have was also very nice (effectively a fish finger sarnie) Also had a home made smoothie which was good, but one of the group had a lemonade and did not like it much

Would highly recommend the bottomless brunch. My friends and I had a great time.

Lovely warm welcome for non-local having left the motorway in near standstill traffic on route to South Devon. Comfort food, warm local with families and dogs, could not have been better. Friendly bar staff got me a charger for my phone. Recharged all round! Many thanks

My partner and I had an incredible meal here that was only surpassed by the wonderful service. The fish dishes were immense and perfectly balanced and all for a price that was unreasonably low. Highly recommended for anyone in the area!

As part of my 'fee' for legal work, I entertained my solicitor at this venue for lunch. He was well happy with fish and chips, I wish I had chosen better. The Rioja, however, was superb and I could easily have shared another bottle - but he had to get back to the office. An amiable place, the staff is clearly customer focused, with an eclectic setting. Obviously popular with locals and shoppers. If I'm there again, I'll be more careful with my meal selection

Came for a lunch with a friend and was told there would be a half hour wait for food, which was fine. Regrettably I had to repeatedly ask for our coffee order to be taken and gave up waiting for our food order to be taken after 45 minutes despite later arriving tables being attended to. Shame

Very friendly staff. A reasonable menu. Good selection of alcoholic and soft drinks. There is a mix of seating types; some wooden, some leather settees and a mixture of different types of tables. I go there quite frequently for the coffee and gluten free (or maybe low gluten) chocolate brownies, which are delicious!

Beautiful cafe/restaurant. Superb food and super friendly staff. Great menu choice. Great location in the heart of Nailsea town centre. Good parking close by with free parking up to 3 hours in car park behind pub/restaurant. Great hot dog too, highly recommended.

Pretty poor compared to previous experience a few weeks ago. Chicken burger burnt and sent back. The second burger also burnt. Staff would rather chat then offer service. Really would avoid like the plague.

Had a bite to eat here on a Friday lunch time with a 4 year old and we will certainly go back soon. Go for a coffee, do a bit of work, have a few beers or do what we did and have a family lunch. Pretty much for every scenario this place ticks the boxes. The food was cooked well and tasty and the service was friendly. It's a comfortable place where you could easily spend a couple of hours. There's games available for little ones and I was a fan of their house pilsner. 👍👍👍

Lovely place. Very friendly staff. Strolled in based off of previous reviews and wasn’t disappointed. The buttermilk chicken burger was great. Lovely steak as well. Also a bonus of happy hour cocktails and kids meal was a pound. All round great good. Would highly recommend

As they had recently been reinspected following a zero food hygiene rating up to three, we decided to give them a chance and booked a table for us for Saturday night for Father's Day; only to be told when we got there that there was a private booking, and they couldn't accommodate us. They claimed to have tried to call us to inform us, however no such attempt was made. Never again.

As it's over six years since I helped design Coates House I think it's okay for me to review it. Enjoyed a family brunch there today. I had shakshuka which was delicious. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly and attentive service and co-owner Simon was today's chef. Excellent

Nice Place but service very slow

Excellent food, friendly service highly recommend. We booked a table for 25 and all our meals arrived together, they were all hot & the waiter was excellent, nothing was too much trouble.

Honest tasty food with good company. Good comfort food menu, brunch and plenty of gluten free options. Nice tapas bites too. Reasonable prices. Breakfast brunch at £6.50, mains at £7-10. Tapas 3 for £8 and £3-5 for Coffee and Cake or Puds.

Cycled here so it was nice to find two Sheffield stands in the front yard, although they are right up against the wall and not bolted down very well so not perfect. Service friendly and a good selection of beer. We went in the evening and they had stopped serving coffee. Cafe vibe inside. Closed around 10pm.

Lovely establishment, great seating areas, chilled atmosphere, softer lighting with very friendly and attentive staff. The food was divine, the care shown with the drinks was lovely too, my Earl grey tea was even served with a couple of tasty little chocolates. We will definitely be returning and I definitely recommend a visit to this place. Thank you.

Service was very slow and they got my order wrong!! This has happened to many times. I don't recommend it. I won't be going back. A bunch of kids running it with no organisation. Very sad for such a lovely place 😢

A party of ours went for a meal on the 23rd Dec. Some meals were a bit disappointing, some meals were off the menu, yet I had booked. The toilets were not at all clean both men and womens. We popped in there today and although I never used the toilets my husband did and the urinals were still out of order and still as dirty. Table felt greasy so we didn’t bother about a meal. Our guests weren’t impressed.

Waited 15min for our drinks,Table was very sticky mens toilet dirty. All staff very young no one seemed to be in control.

Nice food and a chilled atmosphere for our team meal. We will probably be back!

Food took an hour to come out and two out of five meals were cold. In fairness manager took the two cold meals off the bill and offered drinks and a complaint resolution.

Good value for money with tasty food and generous portion sizes too.

So so, but food really not great
