What a lovely place, full of charm and character, the staff were very friendly and accommodating, we turned up during the latter part of lunch for a 'HighTea' which we hadn't booked, the Chef was more than happy to prepare this gir us and the waitresses took us to our seats in the carriage..we were treated to a fabulous high tea... made the occasion extra special. We had such a lovely time we have booked for double birthday next month in the 4 seater compartment...🤗

We arrived about 1130 so could only order from the brunch/breakfast menu. Lunch starts at 12. Lovely friendly staff, great coffee & the breakfast & sandwiches were nice, great quality bacon but it was a disappointment to us to have supermarket pre sliced bread. It wouldn't stop us coming again though. You can pre book to sit in the railway carriage for lunch & it looks lovely so well worth doing.

We reserved the restored 'Carriages' Pullman carriage for a 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration, with 22 guests. The carriage itself is beautiful and very authentic and comfortable. Our guests were very impressed not only with the decor, but with the quality of the service- nothing was too much trouble, the efficiency of the staff, and the quality of the food (we requested a roast lunch with a prawn cocktail starter and a celebration cake, which was one they had as standard, which happened to be decorated with the right colours and was delicious. The vegetarian option was also fine. Steffan, the chef, was most helpful making sure we had nothing to worry about, with a perfectly acceptable price for the whole event. We did not pay any extra amount for the sole use of the carriage, neither did we feel that there a time limit on how long we could be there.

Stopped in for cream tea and a lemon meringue. Both were delicious. Service was good. Place seemed very clean. Nice atmosphere. Would like to see the carriage close up one day and come back for the "Fish Friday" (2 fish suppers for £18) or try the Sunday roast which is served in the carriage. Haven't seen it up close but from the outside it looks like it's done up like the Orient Express! Will call in again. The garden centre was delightful too. Bought a couple of hanging baskets which were stuffed with plants.

We often come here for coffee/tea, but this time we were thrilled to see that the Pullman Carriage is now connected to the main restaurant and was set out for a special birthday party, and you obviously have to book this. Beautiful and historic! We sat in the main restaurant which was very busy. Coffee and tea were very good. We love this place. the garden centre is stuffed with flowers and plants of every description plus a wide stock of ceramic pots of all shapes and sizes! Worth a day in there alone!

Having read the reviews, and out shopping for garden plants, chose to go here in preference to similar establishments locally. Initial impression not great. On walking into the cafe from the garden centre, I was completely ignored by kitchen and wait staff, despite my having a disability walking frame. I saw no signs advising diners to 'Find a table, note the number, order at front'. I eventually asked a 'rushed' wait staff. The 'specials' are on a board above the counter, so you don't see them as you walk in, they're behind you. Our waitress did not 'offer' them on taking our order until we asked if there were any. My husband chose the battered cod, chips peas - while I ordered breaded plaice new potatoes & peas. On arrival my plaice looked (and was) overdone, I was served chips (instead of potatoes), and it was an extremely small portion. In fairness, the waitress brought me a serving of potatoes. I am sorry to say that the replacement 'new' potatoes were either processed or tinned, certainly not fresh/peeled/cooked. The fish was completely tasteless and hard, and the homemade tartar sauce was bland. My husband's serve was also very small, but he did say that 'the chips were ok'. Nobody came by our table to ask 'how is everything?'. And, 'everything' was definitely NOT 'okay'. Sorry, I'd love to be more positive. Nice garden centre though.

What a great place. Advised to go here by friends as the cafe has a dog friendly area. We called in on a Sunday initially just for a sandwich but they only serve roast dinners on a Sunday lunchtime, or cakes of course. We hadn’t really thought of having a full lunch but we were very glad we changed our minds. The mixed roast meal was excellent and the selection of vegetables plentiful and well cooked. The people working there are really friendly and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. At £9.95 for a massive roast dinner the value is good too. Thank you to all at Carriages Cafe. Our first visit will definitely not be our last.

What a terrible experience, Waited over half an hour for two sandwiches, ran out of white bread so had to have one white one brown, The white bread had gone stale and clearly the last two slices had been left so the air had got to them and dried them out. No spread on the sandwiches , full of thick grated cheese, small pot of chutney insufficient.. The tea we were served shortly after we arrived was cold. Chef argued with me about the bread, and when told about the wait, he said there was a queue, all this discussion took place whilst he continued to work. Shrugged his shoulders about the lack of spread. The fact he has a queue and can't deal with the orders quicker is not my fault. No refund offered so am £13.40 out of pocket. A total disgrace and an unaceptable way to treat and deal with customers.

The most expensive cheese sandwich I have ever bought ( including London). Was served in a box with a little salad and two potato ‘hash browns’ one of which was still partly frozen in the middle. I arranged a collection time as they stated that there was a half hour wait but when I returned the food still wasn’t ready for collection. I waited another ten minutes before it was ready. Very poor service and hugely over priced. The sandwich with a bottle of water was over £13!
