Good location and view from tables. However, the food wasn’t anything special.

The atmosphere might be a lot better when it’s busier, felt a bit soulless. That said service was excellent, early family birthday celebration for daughter about to go to uni. We were very well looked after. Food good, but menu could have a little bit more variety.

Came here for late lunch and the food was amazing! The selected menus was a great price with such a good variety of choices!! The staff were super lovely and the restaurant itself was clean, cozy and all round just a lovely place to eat! 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be coming again!!

A nice setting down in Gloucester docks with a decent selection of food. Can recommend the chicken pitta along with some sourdough pizzette to start.

Great place to have a drink and relax

We went for lunch on a very hot day. They're outside seating was wonderful. Right on the canal with a lovely breeze. Couldn't fault it. The food was lovely. The staff are friendly l, kind and helpful. It was a delight to go. Thank you to the manager, chef and the staff. You're doing a mightly fine job!. Thank you for a lovely time 🥰

Great venue for a birthday party! Drinks for 10 in the bar (a glass of prosecco on the house for the bday girl), then meal for 8 in the restaurant with river views. Food excellent, everyone agreed! Service of a very high standard. Thankyou.

Great option for lunch and getogether whenever you visit Gloucester quays. Today visited this restaurant and staff immediately provided a seat and explained about main and set menu. 3 course set menu is easy to order. Food served with no waiting. Recommend this place for families and friends getogether.

The huge cauliflower and couscous dish was good and different. Also the chicken wings. Lots of gluten free options. The steak sandwich seemed quite expensive at £15 with no chips included and not enough steak. Very good service.

Beverages and food are both to a very high standard, I come here quite often if I can help it the food is very yummy, prices are super reasonable and the cocktails are awesome! Would highly recommend to anyone to try Coal out.

crispy chicken wings were coated in a spicy sauce so not crispy at all. topped with sesame seeds and spring onions. not what I was expecting as the menu didn't mention it. the overall food quality isn't good. not what you'd expect from what used to be a good restaurant.

Food was ok the waitress that served us was not the friendliest it appears that it was a bit too much trouble to ask if baked beans could be added to a child’s meal as it was not breakfast time

I've been to Coal kitchen restaurant in Cabot circus in Bristol before, so I wanted to try Coal kitchen in the Quays, wasn't disappointed, food, atmosphere,service was very good, would recommend and go again.

Found the service OK. But value for money was shocking .the signature burger was very small and we would have been better going burger King .the steak was OK but the price for a small steak with an egg with the option of fries on skin baby potatoes or a side salad was lack way over priced .the peppercorn sauce was tiny and tasted more like a mild curry sauce .was charged for the side salad of mostly tomatoes and cucumber with nothing in the middle more a half moon .the best part of the meal was the perron

Came for the Sunday lunch and the Belly Pork was astonishing. Pleasant and quiet restaurant, and dog friendly. Ticks all the boxes for us. We will be back next time we're in Gloucester

If you're looking for an industrial interior vibe, a historic building and a calming ambience... This is the place to go! We didn't book and went Thursday evening for a spontaneous date night an it was perfect from the food to accomodating my allergy. The drinks were 10/10 too. You get what you pay for. Highly recommend Coal.

Had the misfortune to have a rare 'date night ' here in March 2024. From the very start the staff were overly fussy, the management especially. The food was very expensive for the quality and quantity. The noodles were sooo spicy my lips were burning and I couldn't eat my meal. Not offered a refund or a replacement. When the bill arrived they had the cheek to add 10% service charge... when I hadn't been able to eat my main. Extremely disappointed. Definitely one to avoid. Plenty of other places to each in Gloucester Quays.

The Sunday roast is amazing we had the turkey, beef and pork for a group of six plus a gluten free menu, is was delicious.

Had a wonderful visit on Saturday 16th March. We went for the bottomless brunch Staff are very attentive, food is to a good standard. Overall I would recommend. My friends steak was overdone, but she didn't want to complain. But I'm sure if she had, they would have sorted it out. Will definitely be back!

Ordered barbecue crispy wings, got something that was beyond spicy and inedible. The grilled aromatic chicken was the size of one thigh cut into 4 pieces. Fries were nice and chicken very tasty but disappointing meal overall. Brownie was pretty good

Had a wonderful time here for my birthday celebrations. We had a bottomless brunch. A good selection of drinks to choose from. Food was very nice. Staff were friendly and helpful. They were very much on the ball with checking if we needed more drinks. I would recommend.

Went there yesterday on a double date and I have to say the food and drinks was amazing! The service was absolutely fantastic shout out to Louise and Sarah for the amazing service and even took photos for us, definitely made my first time there really special. Will definitely be going back again.

Disappointing. Valentines night, Our drinks were ordered and brought to the table quickly where our food order was then taken. After choosing from a very poor menu, It took almost a full hour for 3 tiny overcooked/burnt chicken skewers with some garlic mayo, and 4 tiny halloumi fries to arrive to our table. While delays are always possible in a restaurant setting, especially on valentines, there was no communication & it did not seem that busy actually. Waitress then said the starters would be free. Main course arrived, the 8oz Sirloin i asked to be rare was medium, unseasoned & had clearly been cooked from straight out of refrigeration. It was unbelievably chewy & the knife provided barely cut the garlic butter i had, let alone the steak. Garlic butter was that solid & wouldn't melt on the steak, so I had to hover it over the little candle on the table to soften it. My partner had the chicken & chorizo skillet which had zero flavour, chicken was overcooked. It just tasted of tinned tomatoes. Not even sure if it was Chorizo, tasted more like pepperoni as it has zero heat. Table next to use complained, sent food back & for the two hours we sat there all I could hear was the bloody chefs pinging the service bell. Over & over again, couldn't have a conversation without that interrupting every other word. Chefs are awful. Our server was lovely, She did a good job considering but seemed embarrassed. It's not a good sign that when she came to clear the plates at the end that she didn't ask us how the food was, it's almost like she assumed. oh and the table was wobbling & had to use a napkin to steady it. Avoid, it's not the Coal Bar & Grill from a few years ago.

Went for a bottomless brunch with my partner to celebrate my birthday and could not fault anything. All staff were polite and friendly, who went above and beyond to ensure everything was okay. Breakfast was delicious and so were the Rum Swizzle’s! The service we received was outstanding and I was made to feel extra special on my birthday by all staff who interacted with us. We have been to Coal numerous times and never once had an issue and always receive the best customer service. The quality of the food and drinks is always outstanding. 100% would highly recommend

On visit, quality of food was not bad. As for service, the place was almost empty. When I went to order item was told it would take 15 mins longer than other two meals to cook, so I reselected, BUT we wait nearly 45 mins to get "quicker" meals! No atmosphere that made me not want to return soon....sorry

Have enjoyed several brunches here during 2023. Always friendly service. Love the drinks choices. Will be going again. Thankyou to Holly for looking after us today.

We eat out regularly this was totally shocking. Completely over priced food had better meals at spoons.

Had steak and churros. Neither cooked right. Steak too black on the outer, too red on the inner. Churos, just overcooked (a lille hard), but they did taste good

Came in without reservations but they asked us to wait when other girl who works there gave a seats to other couple after us without reservations as well and then lady who told us to wait came back telling nothings available. Not sure what was the problem but not going there ever

Had Christmas work meal, it was ok portion a bit small. Significant shortage of custard with the pub.

Burger was over priced and so small wouldn’t have even fed a child and didn’t even come with fries of which you had to pay extra . Will not recommend to anyone and will not ever be returning . Very BAD value for money

This is the second time we have been here. And we weren't disappointed. Tasty food, lovely beer and friendly, helpful staff.

Decent atmosphere and food but nothing special. Food was overpriced compared to other similar establishments. Not one that I would choose to go to again.

I used to come here a lot but haven't been for a few years. Oh how it has changed. The menu has shrunk quite a bit since my last visit. I went for the steak which was tough, extremely chewy and quite bland. The potatoes were really nice though, but that was the only side that came with the steak. The service was decent but I would expect that with the relatively low numbers that were inside. Can't comment on the atmosphere as there weren't enough customers.

£13.50 for a chicken breast with a bit of meted cheese and a piece of chorizo on a empty plate . Then £4.50 for fries . So £20 for a meal with no salad or veg . I couldn’t believe it when I saw the skillet , absolute robbery . Never again . To top it they over charged me £12 till I spotted it .

Ordered Baked Hake off Christmas menu ... got more like a skinny flat fish tasted like Talapia fish on a bed of mush !!! starter good dessert good main .... not recommended

Very dissapointing food - had the chicken schnitzel sandwich but the bread was way too chargrilled (It was burnt to be fair) so ended up only eating the meat - ok but for £12 not great. Staff were polite and friendly but there seemed to be some commotion in the back so didnt get chance to mention before rest of party had finished food.

I feel rather sad that I have to give an overall 3*.We ordered a Ceaser Salad that appeared at our table with much lettuce, boiled egg and not much else. I acknowledge that local variations of dishes happen but I asked where are the anchovies. I was informed that the anchovies were in the sauce and I could not agree with the reply. However the manager saved the day and provided the fish that made the meal. Would we again , in all honesty not sure.

Visited there yesterday and found service and food excellent,waited for us to let our starters to go down before asking if we were ready for our main course. Nia was exceptionally with her expertise and knowledge and extremely polite. Would recommend to anyone.

Went for bottomless brunch and it's one of the best iv been too, The staff were excellent, we were never waiting for our next round like many other places and they also came to take a final round when we had 10 minutes left, very polite and efficient... Steak was good, tacos were mediocre.. definitely go again

Staff and place are great,my food was good but the vegan burger was burnt,the staff did take this of the bill without any fuss,so you can't complain at that. 4 out of 5 because the meal should come with chips included on burgers.

This is our favourite place for breakfast. Service is always spot on and the food is of the highest quality ... and not too pricey. We had the full English and the vegetarian breakfast and they were amazing. High recommended!!

Little too noisy and geared to younger persons.

Waitress was lovely, unfortunately didn't catch her name. Had the Salmon from the grill, was dry and pretty tasteless. There is absolutely no garnish with the meals so make sure you order a side salad or something. They meals come quite literally as described on the menu. Ordered a desert as meals were tiny and had to wait over 25 minutes. Waitress was apologetic but by this time I just wanted to leave. Most expensive meal out we've have this week and definitely not worth it.

We had a meal booked at a different restaurant but unfortunately was flooded so made our way to coal and they were very polite and helpful and we had a lovely meal with goos service

Sorry to say but our recent trip for Bottomless Brunch was absolutely not worth the money and the food quite bad! £35 and most of the cocktails are mainly ice, the first course was so tiny it was gone in about 3 bites, then the second! Well, awful, one of us ordered a BLT to be presented with a burnt bap and one piece of bacon, that was it, on the whole plate, no L or T, no side, not even a salad. Another paid extra for steak which was tiny and well over done with a tiny handful of chips. The same with mine, two small bits of overdone halloumi in a burnt bap just dumped on a plate with nothing else! Not what you’d expect when paying £35 each! Will not be returning as quite frankly was pretty grim.

Visiting Gloucester from Cardiff today, we walked into Coal Kitchen for a bite to eat and very glad we did, fabulous service from very friendly staff, very nice atmosphere and the food is outstanding! I highly recommend the Beef Kofta! This is lovely place for a meal and drink. Simon&Louise

Greeted by very pleasant staff and taken to our table with no wait. Main menu and set menu explained very quickly and the service was excellent. The main menu is very varied but we all went for the three course set menu. The portions aren't massive but the quality of the food is excellent and are enough to know you have eaten at a very reasonable price, well worth a visit

Waited 15 minutes to have our drinks order taken on a quiet, wet, sunday. Portions are TINY. We had two courses and then went elsewhere to have another main course because we were both still starving.

If you are going to charge £9 for a mojito at least do it right. No alcohol whatsoever. Felt more like a ginger shot. The home made house hamburger is served with 2 slices of nice yellow processed cheese and our cocktails were removed from the table before we could finish. Disappointed service and no value for money. Service charges added on top of a £62 bill.

We only had drinks and a side but the people were pleasant and the atmosphere was less loud than the other restaurants in the vicinity. We were seated right away and were able to get a table by the water. The toilets were clean, the floors were not sticky and the service was good.

Previously had a really nice meal here so suggested it for a very special family gathering. Turned out to be a bit of a mistake. Tables were sticky, loos had no loo roll, floors were grubby, we were refused one lager for my 15 and a half year old son despite us eating a meal and with my permission. Food was disappointing, half of it was cold. Portions I had were small and I was left hungry. . Partner said his food was so cold it was like ice (we appreciate the asian noodles were supposed to be cold - we discovered after - but he said it was so cold it'd just been taken out the fridge). Despite the place being mostly dead (all the staff were sitting at the bar waiting for us to leave by the end) we waited over 45 minutes for the desserts but I'm not sure why they were so long. Overall I was unimpressed and won't be rushing back any time soon.

This was my second visit and the time between visits was huge as I didn't particularly enjoy it the first time. I had hoped it was better but the menu was really limited for my personal tastes and I had the Asian Noodles with chicken which frankly was awful. I guess this just isn't a restaurant for me.

Went to try for first time. Table not clean, no cutlery. Ordered drinks and waited awhile then drinks were wrong. Starter very greasy. Asked for a break between starter and main. Main was meant to come on sizzling plate. Stone cold, as was food. Was offered to have it warmed up but it was lamb and already dried up. It wasnt that busy. For what you were paying for it was very poor! I wouldnt recommend this place .

Really sad to be complaining when we have left fabulous reviews before and great experiences here.....BUT! today we visited and were extremely dissatisfied. We ordered 2 chicken pittas , which were disgusting to be Frank. Bad feeling the chicken was off and the whole thing saturated with sauce. I've had better kebabs from budget kebab shops. Would have complained at time, but as we were outside, service seemed very slow. My little boy also had burger and chips and left it all, which is a shock as he is never that fussy. He said it was horrible...out the mouths of babes comes to mind. Sides were fine (green beans ) .upon paying my husband told the chap we were not happy and were met with a blunt "sorry about that" , basically just being rude , so we said we won't pay the service charge. Was still £59 for a disgusting meal though. Appalling when people go out to work hard for treats like going out to experience this. You have sadly lost regular customers today and we won't be back. Another once decent place becoming complacent and only able to offer decent drinks ...that's about it
