Had a really nice relaxed experience here, it was my birthday and the staff were very accommodating and friendly. Natasha served us and she had very good customer service and was just a generally really nice pleasant person. Thank you Natasha.

Absolutely brilliant food and service second to none.

Could not recommend Coal Kitchen enough. Service was amazing as soon as we walked in, super accommodating with the baby, and Josh and team could not be more helpful in going through the menu item by item to reassure us against dairy intolerance (my friend claims the best service experience she’s ever had). Follow up service email is a great touch. Thank you Josh and team, if we’re ever back in Gloucester we’d 100% return!

Booked this expecting nice food and cocktails, however me and my friend were severely disappointed. The signature cocktails were awful and we found that we could get better food at Wetherspoons, despite the presentation of our food being much better! The staff weren’t very attentive to our needs, so we were shocked to realise that the 12.5% service charge was mandatory! Very over priced experience, we will NOT be returning

We booked as a large party. Really accommodating and a great time was had by all.

We reserved a table in the restaurant for a valentines meal. We were seated quickly and had amazing service all night, thank you Deborah! The food was lovely, we had starter main and desert, and we felt it was reasonably priced for what we got. We were even given a red rose with the receipt that I thought was a lovely extra touch.

Came in for bottomless brunch today with a group of friends, our waitress Lainey, kept our drinks topped up throughout our meal. Would defo recommend! We will be back.

Food is horrendous, chicken drenched in lemon and the chips had about 45 chopped up parsley leaves on.

Four of us had s an excellent meal here. Delicious. Good wine. Pleasant helpful staff. Reasonably priced. Much much better than the other cruddy ‘run of the mill’ eating places in Gloucester Quays.

Came here for a festive bottomless brunch. The menu for the brunch was really good (although not too different from the standard menu). They were really quick and prompt with the orders and even taking the odd cheeky request to double or triple park on the drinks! The food was amazing too! Maybe took a bit of time to come out but that definitely helped with the pacing of the drinks within the 90mins. Overall a great place to come for bottomless brunch and an overall lovely place to come with friends and family for food!

Very cold experience, no heating. The food was ok. Didn’t find it good value for money. One meal was piping hot as if it had been blasted in the microwave. Chicken wings were delicious. Overall just didn’t feel there was much atmosphere and could not hear any music. Staff were friendly and prompt.

The lamb was out of this world, highly recommend

Visited this evening for a date night; and the staff here couldn’t be more attentive and friendly. The food was remarkable; came out nice and hot and full of flavour. Timing was extremely well, giving us enough time to enjoy our starters before the main arrived. Portion sizes reflect with the price; definitely worth the money. Very pleased with the experience and looking forward to another visit.

Saturday 4th January 25, 4.45pm - 5.30pm. I have just this minute left the restaurant and I am actually shaking with anger. Do not go to coal in the quays. Not only was the food terrible, we were not asked if the food was ok or asked if we wanted another drink, the waitresses were at the bar on their phones and one of them asked if I’d taken a photo of her! Bloody awful!!!! I should have said something at the time but I was so shocked! Also as long as you don’t mind battling through an herd of smokers when leaving you’ll be fine. Also it was almost empty so no excuse for poor service!!! AVOID!

Dined in a handful of times now and everytime we’ve always been well looked after and spoilt 👏 thank you to all the team! Can’t wait to visit again

Fantastic food! I can't say that enough. Well spiced and adequate portions. Unfortunately service from staff really spoiled our visit. Some training in customer communication would be of benefit to the younger members of the team . Obviously they are still learning that skill, but the prices are still on the steeper side of what Gloucester can offer and the service should be reflective of this. We had 2 people serving us, one literally never spoke and the other was more like a Harry Enfield teenage Character. I'm sure the staff will develop in time with a little support from senior staff.

You call that an English breakfast? 😂 that bacon was tiny. Everything was so cold as well.

This is the 1st time I have used this place, and it will be the last time as well, I paid £10.50 for a full English breakfast, and the portion size was minimal. (Please see the photo) The beans were cold, as was the bacon, the sourdough toast wasn't toasted, I could not recommend this place for a breakfast meal, unless you are really desperate

Visited 5pm Saturday 14/12/2024 with my wife. Booked in advance and glad we did as it was very busy. We were seated promptly and ordered a pint of lager each, garlic bread starter which we shared, sirloin steak x2 with peppercorn sauce and garlic butter. Starter and drinks were served quickly and the garlic bread was lovely. Then waited 30 minutes for our steaks but that was fine given it was a Saturday night and really busy. Staff were working hard and we could hardly complain about the wait, it was expected. Sadly though the steak was poor. One cooked medium well and the other medium rare, but they were tough and not pleasant at all. Considering they were £21 each, we’ve had much much better for less money at a beefeater. The waiter did ask if everything was ok so we mentioned the steak wasn’t great and he kindly knocked off 15%. But unfortunately the damage was done and despite the discount, the experience was ruined. I’d go as far to say the steaks were probably the worst I’ve had. Total bill even with the discount came to £96, for a shared starter, 2 steaks, 4 pints of lager, 2 desserts - chocolate fondant x2 at £8 each was a bit excessive considering the size of it but wow, really delicious. Overall, service was fine, quality of steak really poor. So unfortunately we will not be back.

We attended for a bottomless brunch for 12 people, the speed of drinks was perfect and was great value for money. The food was of good quality and all arrived hot and correct. Great choice of cocktails and all very tasty. The setting looked lovely and had a great atmosphere. We all had a great evening. Also the booking process was fantastic done via email and got responses back and forth very quickly and very helpful and did all they can to get what I wanted. 5 stars from us.

We booked a work meeting and there was not enough space for all of us to sit! When we told the waitress and the supervisor, they told us there is no table available so please squish into somewhere! It was a bad first visit not sure if there will be a second.

8 of us ladies had a fabulous lunch today food was excellent and very fresh and hot. Staff were very pleasant polite and efficient.

Great fun for a Bottomless Brunch with colleagues. It was very busy when we went (Saturday 2pm) and the place was practically full. The bottomless brunch is a bit pricey (expect minimum £40 per person) but has a great choice compared to other restaurants and the drinks are well made and tasty. You have enough time to try most of the mocktails/cocktails on the menu. Couldn’t fault the service. They made an error with one item but it was quickly rectified and everyone was happy with their food 😋

The atmosphere might be a lot better when it’s busier, felt a bit soulless. That said service was excellent, early family birthday celebration for daughter about to go to uni. We were very well looked after. Food good, but menu could have a little bit more variety.

Came here for late lunch and the food was amazing! The selected menus was a great price with such a good variety of choices!! The staff were super lovely and the restaurant itself was clean, cozy and all round just a lovely place to eat! 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be coming again!!

A nice setting down in Gloucester docks with a decent selection of food. Can recommend the chicken pitta along with some sourdough pizzette to start.

We went for lunch on a very hot day. They're outside seating was wonderful. Right on the canal with a lovely breeze. Couldn't fault it. The food was lovely. Great venue for a birthday party! Drinks for 10 in the bar (a glass of prosecco on the house for the bday girl), then meal for 8 in the restaurant with river views. Food excellent, everyone agreed! Service of a very high standard. Thankyou.

Great option for lunch and getogether whenever you visit Gloucester quays. Today visited this restaurant and staff immediately provided a seat and explained about main and set menu. 3 course set menu is easy to order. Food served with no waiting. Recommend this place for families and friends getogether.

The huge cauliflower and couscous dish was good and different. Also the chicken wings. Lots of gluten free options. The steak sandwich seemed quite expensive at £15 with no chips included and not enough steak. Very good service.

Beverages and food are both to a very high standard, I come here quite often if I can help it the food is very yummy, prices are super reasonable and the cocktails are awesome! Would highly recommend to anyone to try Coal out.

crispy chicken wings were coated in a spicy sauce so not crispy at all. topped with sesame seeds and spring onions. not what I was expecting as the menu didn't mention it. the overall food quality isn't good. not what you'd expect from what used to be a good restaurant.

Food was ok the waitress that served us was not the friendliest it appears that it was a bit too much trouble to ask if baked beans could be added to a child’s meal as it was not breakfast time

I've been to Coal kitchen restaurant in Cabot circus in Bristol before, so I wanted to try Coal kitchen in the Quays, wasn't disappointed, food, atmosphere,service was very good, would recommend and go again.

Found the service OK. But value for money was shocking .the signature burger was very small and we would have been better going burger King .the steak was OK but the price for a small steak with an egg with the option of fries on skin baby potatoes or a side salad was lack way over priced .the peppercorn sauce was tiny and tasted more like a mild curry sauce .was charged for the side salad of mostly tomatoes and cucumber with nothing in the middle more a half moon .the best part of the meal was the perron

Came for the Sunday lunch and the Belly Pork was astonishing. Pleasant and quiet restaurant, and dog friendly. Ticks all the boxes for us. We will be back next time we're in Gloucester

If you're looking for an industrial interior vibe, a historic building and a calming ambience... This is the place to go! We didn't book and went Thursday evening for a spontaneous date night an it was perfect from the food to accomodating my allergy. The drinks were 10/10 too. You get what you pay for. Highly recommend Coal.

Had the misfortune to have a rare 'date night ' here in March 2024. From the very start the staff were overly fussy, the management especially. The food was very expensive for the quality and quantity. The noodles were sooo spicy my lips were burning and I couldn't eat my meal. Not offered a refund or a replacement. When the bill arrived they had the cheek to add 10% service charge... when I hadn't been able to eat my main. Extremely disappointed. Definitely one to avoid. Plenty of other places to each in Gloucester Quays.

The Sunday roast is amazing we had the turkey, beef and pork for a group of six plus a gluten free menu, is was delicious.

Had a wonderful visit on Saturday 16th March. We went for the bottomless brunch Staff are very attentive, food is to a good standard. Overall I would recommend. My friends steak was overdone, but she didn't want to complain. But I'm sure if she had, they would have sorted it out. Will definitely be back!

Ordered barbecue crispy wings, got something that was beyond spicy and inedible. The grilled aromatic chicken was the size of one thigh cut into 4 pieces. Fries were nice and chicken very tasty but disappointing meal overall. Brownie was pretty good

Went there yesterday on a double date and I have to say the food and drinks was amazing! The service was absolutely fantastic shout out to Louise and Sarah for the amazing service and even took photos for us, definitely made my first time there really special. Will definitely be going back again.

Disappointing. Valentines night, Our drinks were ordered and brought to the table quickly where our food order was then taken. After choosing from a very poor menu, It took almost a full hour for 3 tiny overcooked/burnt chicken skewers with some garlic mayo, and 4 tiny halloumi fries to arrive to our table. While delays are always possible in a restaurant setting, especially on valentines, there was no communication & it did not seem that busy actually. Waitress then said the starters would be free. Main course arrived, the 8oz Sirloin i asked to be rare was medium, unseasoned & had clearly been cooked from straight out of refrigeration. It was unbelievably chewy & the knife provided barely cut the garlic butter i had, let alone the steak. Garlic butter was that solid & wouldn't melt on the steak, so I had to hover it over the little candle on the table to soften it. My partner had the chicken & chorizo skillet which had zero flavour, chicken was overcooked. It just tasted of tinned tomatoes. Not even sure if it was Chorizo, tasted more like pepperoni as it has zero heat. Table next to use complained, sent food back & for the two hours we sat there all I could hear was the bloody chefs pinging the service bell. Over & over again, couldn't have a conversation without that interrupting every other word. Chefs are awful. Our server was lovely, She did a good job considering but seemed embarrassed. It's not a good sign that when she came to clear the plates at the end that she didn't ask us how the food was, it's almost like she assumed. oh and the table was wobbling & had to use a napkin to steady it. Avoid, it's not the Coal Bar & Grill from a few years ago.

Went for a bottomless brunch with my partner to celebrate my birthday and could not fault anything. All staff were polite and friendly, who went above and beyond to ensure everything was okay. Breakfast was delicious and so were the Rum Swizzle’s! The service we received was outstanding and I was made to feel extra special on my birthday by all staff who interacted with us. We have been to Coal numerous times and never once had an issue and always receive the best customer service. The quality of the food and drinks is always outstanding. 100% would highly recommend

On visit, quality of food was not bad. As for service, the place was almost empty. When I went to order item was told it would take 15 mins longer than other two meals to cook, so I reselected, BUT we wait nearly 45 mins to get "quicker" meals! No atmosphere that made me not want to return soon....sorry

Have enjoyed several brunches here during 2023. Always friendly service. Love the drinks choices. Will be going again. Thankyou to Holly for looking after us today.

We eat out regularly this was totally shocking. Completely over priced food had better meals at spoons.

Had steak and churros. Neither cooked right. Steak too black on the outer, too red on the inner. Churos, just overcooked (a lille hard), but they did taste good

Came in without reservations but they asked us to wait when other girl who works there gave a seats to other couple after us without reservations as well and then lady who told us to wait came back telling nothings available. Not sure what was the problem but not going there ever

Had Christmas work meal, it was ok portion a bit small. Significant shortage of custard with the pub.

Burger was over priced and so small wouldn’t have even fed a child and didn’t even come with fries of which you had to pay extra . Will not recommend to anyone and will not ever be returning . Very BAD value for money

Decent atmosphere and food but nothing special. Food was overpriced compared to other similar establishments. Not one that I would choose to go to again.

I used to come here a lot but haven't been for a few years. Oh how it has changed. The menu has shrunk quite a bit since my last visit. I went for the steak which was tough, extremely chewy and quite bland. The potatoes were really nice though, but that was the only side that came with the steak. The service was decent but I would expect that with the relatively low numbers that were inside. Can't comment on the atmosphere as there weren't enough customers.

£13.50 for a chicken breast with a bit of meted cheese and a piece of chorizo on a empty plate . Then £4.50 for fries . So £20 for a meal with no salad or veg . I couldn’t believe it when I saw the skillet , absolute robbery . Never again . To top it they over charged me £12 till I spotted it .

Very dissapointing food - had the chicken schnitzel sandwich but the bread was way too chargrilled (It was burnt to be fair) so ended up only eating the meat - ok but for £12 not great. Staff were polite and friendly but there seemed to be some commotion in the back so didnt get chance to mention before rest of party had finished food.
