Great old pub. Great beers and friendly staff

Brilliant pub with friendly locals. Chap behind the bar very welcoming with a selection of great ales. Had a few Singleton whiskies too that went down well! Fully recommend!

I'd always heard good things about this place, it really did not disappoint. Got to be the nicest pints of Bass I've ever had and it's consistent and always served with a smile. Visited on numerous occasions over a couple of months and it's always top notch! Not a huge pub, quite a small, cosy establishment. What it lacks in size, it certainly makes up for with character! I'm sure I'll be sinking plenty more in there soon. I haven't tried their food so unfortunately I cannot comment.

If you are looking for a time travel community pub this is it. Several snug rooms, open fire, quarry tiles and your working class grandad would feel at home. No trendy furniture or fittings. Ancient bar. Guest beers, drinkers pub. Comes with outside freezing gents loo . Ah the good old days. Friendly landlord. Folk music in back room on first Tuesday on the month. Plenty of street parking. Has dart boards. Community drinking pub. Not destroyed by modern fashions. If you only visit once it gives you a sense of the past. I like the place because it feels like a real old fashioned place that needs preservation. Maybe not geared up for families.

Stunning historic traditional pub. A real pub. Great cask beers. Perfect watering hole for the bus station and the Regent Theatre.

Best pint in Hanley, impossible to just have the one

When you walk in, you’ll meet a man from the EDL who’s traveled from Cheshire. He lives in the same block of flats as his brother. The pub is run by a couple from the EDL although it’s proscribed. In the past they’d openly try and recruit you to the EDL. These days they just “don’t like you” and give your money back after telling you to get out, if you accidentally go in and mention something not EDL

Everyone talks to everyone else. Open fire and good well-priced bottled beers.

Great local pub with a lively atmosphere

This is a nice old school pub, reasonably priced drinks and a nice relaxed feel to have a quiet drink. It has some packets of chip options but doesn't serve food otherwise.

A great little pub, full of characters and fun. There is a local clientele which mixes with people using the bus station across the way. If you visit Hanley, put this pub on your list to start your adventure off. It's small snugs and rooms add an additional charm to the experience, and on a cold winters night, head to the back room to sample the delights of the open fire. Take it in turns with the locals to add a log to it and enjoy the local banter!

Loved it!! Cheap drinks with plenty of choice, especially rum, everyone knows each other and are friendly. Also the home of Ay Up Duck Radio which is a community funded radio app.

Found this place by accident. What a find! If you want plush and fancy decor forget it. This is a genuine Victorian working man's pub. It has a tiny snug and a few other basic rooms. Tiled floors. Cast iron tables. A real locals pub where the locals are friendly. Good range of beers. This type of pub is almost gone. This place survives amidst massive redevelopment. Stoke planning department has made some major foul ups in my opinion as a first time visitor. Let's hope they keep their hands off this very unique pub Facing the Hanley bus station with a superb Indian restaurant next door you have all the elements of a good night out!

went to this pub back in the day with my mum and nan,,, was young and it was nice and was curry fish chips across road,, i think back in the day hanley was amazing and lal the houses that were old should been kept and done up instead romoved it was war homes and i think this is same,, this old pub and is amazing keep it going

Great friendly little pub. Every time I've been wether quiet or busy, the staff are friendly and helpful. The beers on offer change from time to time so there's no chance of getting bored. The patrons are local super friendly people. We'll worth a visit.

A great pub, the management are friendly and welcome new patrons. First time I was in there it totally surprised me by the size of the place. 4 small rooms which have a great atmosphere. I particularly loved the history of the pub. One drink is a must to try is the rhubarb cider. Very well priced which is always a bonus. A place that will get you going back.
